- Kanye West was the first non athlete ever to have a signature shoe with Nike. The sneakers that Kanye and Nike produced have become some of the most sought after sneakers of all time. When the Air Yeezy 1 and Air Yeezy 2 released there were people camped out for weeks in advance just to secure a pair. Today these shoes resell for tens of thousands of dollars on Stock X. In this video we go a little deeper in the history of the Air Yeezys and why Kanye ended up leaving Nike for Adidas.

Daisuke Young That’s not true. A few years ago, we saw the release of Kevin Hart’s signature training shoe. You can also consider most of the Fear of God collaborations as “signature” models for Jerry Lorenzo. Outside of the realm original designed signatures, we do see the Travis Scott and Virgil Abloh’s that give those designers huge amounts of freedom to alter and customize existing Nike silhouettes.
Nike made a best decision. It's gonna be more expensive for them if kanye compete with the Jordan brand. Adidas yeezy is not that really great their good.

Maybe not. You can't really sustain a proper business on hype. All the resell money doesn't go to the actual company. More air monarchs have been sold than all the yeezys combined. Yeezy are released in limited numbers, even when they are supposed to be GR. So while you could view it as a bug mistake, it really isn't in terms of profit. Since they technically don't sell a lot of shoes (maybe like 2 million pairs of yeezys, since hype needs to be maintained and not have them sit on the shelves) thats nowhere near as much as Nike sell of their other products every year.

NachoAverageFinds I wish, I was 17 when they released and needed the funds to invest into other sneakers to flip. I sold my pair then purchased another pair for £1200 and then flipped them for £2500 a year later. Now they are selling for upwards of £4000+

I once came across all 3 colourways at my Nike outlet, selling for $80+ 20% off, but brought 3peat 8's and Laney 14's instead. Dohhhhh.
There were no size 12 Yeezy's, but I didn't even think about reselling.
On a side note I put Air Jordan 8 Ray Allen's back once because they wouldn't give me 20% off, dohhhhh.

hello! im here to correct you for a certain minor part of the video. the air yeezy wasnt the first collab between nike and a not-athlete. in 2007 the nike sb dunk high MF DOOM was released, which is 2 years before the air yeezy I came out.

To be honest I’ve been in the Sneaker Game since 2003/2004 and I’ve loved sneakers since the 90’s as kid. Being collector/reseller I love THE CULTURE of sneakers no matter Nike, Jordan, Adidas, Puma,Diadora, Pro Keds, Reebok etc. so I’m in LOVE with ALL BRANDS but as far Retroing the Yeezy that’s BIG NO! NO! Why? I mean think 🤔 about let’s say right in 2008/2009 You had a pair of AJ 3 2001 You were the MAN/WOMAN!!! Why? Because they were DS(DEADSTOCK) so if you ever decided to sell them Used/New you get some good Money for it. Fast Forward the last 10 years how many Jordan/Nike Re-Retro have they brought with the Jumpman or Nike Air Logo??? The 3’s, 4’s,5’s, 6’s, 11’s What happens to a 2001 AJ 11 Columbia vs 2013 AJ Legend Blue the 2001 value it drops NO??? I get that old J’s came with a Retro Card n Great Box and the new Ones well they trying to upgrade their quality. Look at it Flight Club NY the Originators of Reselling, now you got Stockx, GOAT, Stadium Goods, etc. The exclusivity and value of sneakers is LOST n GONE in my opinion.
Another Perfect example would be the rerelease of these Nike Dunk Low(Brazil, Samba Red, College Colorways, and the Champ Color)( I get that Travis Scott and Migos bringing it back but NIKE has run out of ideas 💡?) from the early 2000’s I’m not saying that’s not cool but why do that???? They were grails in the 2000’s whether people knew it or not, now Nike goes to the vault and brings them back 🤔🤔🤔
A pair of Nike Air Force 180 Union 2005 just sold for 1000 on eBay that I was looking at. The price is EXPENSIVE don’t get me wrong but 15 years in storage and it was a limited release at Union in L A someone like me in NY that was a 19 years old when those were released I have an opportunity to possibly buy them, whether I can afford or not or if they sell out before I get the chance to get them is another story. But I don’t like when Nike goes into the Vault and brings back DEADSTOCK Jordans or Nike. What they did with Jordan Brand was TOO MUCH in the 2010’s.
Giving deals to non-athletes that real don’t design or probably don’t care they just see Jordan and Check(with expectation of Virgil and Travis they have DOPE Shit, Not everything some stuff in my opinion)

The Air Yeezy 2s are Kanye's magnum opus. I like his Luis Vuitton collabs, a lot of his adidas stuff, but I don't think he'll ever top them.

My favorite Yeezy shoe of all time is the Nike Yeezy 2 Solar Red. It's a stunning shoe. A big time Grail for Me.

I love the shoes myself, especially the Air Yeezy 2 solar red, they should retro because I hate seeing shoes going for thousands that were only worth $150 at a time,if they retro the shoe they would go for $200-$230 now that’s because of inflation, I hope they do because their an iconic sneaker that people should be able to enjoy without having to pay a couple racks for.
