- In our Sanatan tradition, any event, be it in Vedas, Smritis, Puranas or Agamas, or be it historical, social or religious, that can be analysed from three aspects, viz., adhibhautika or in the context of physical manifestation, adhidaivika or in the context of devs and adhyatmika or in the context of Self. The event of Samudra Manthana, churning of ocean as illustrated in Vishnu Purana and Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana, and mention of Kumbha in Atharva Veda and subsequent observation of Kumbha Mela, festival of Kumbha from ancient times has also all these three dimensions. Though discussions regarding adhibhautika and adhidaivika aspects are very common and prominent, also sufficient literatures are available, we seldom find the discussion on adhyatmika aspect of these; and this understanding is only confined to intellect of the yogis. So here for the understanding of sadhakas, the spiritual practitioners, the significance, symbolism and/or allegories, of Kumbha, Kumbha Mela- astrological constellations and geographic positions, Puranic Katha of Samudra Manthan etc are discussed as analysed by the author in relation to pinda, microcosm with brahmanda, macrocosm.
