6:34 my hot take on this is that, because of the ever-increasing pressure on her - not just her position of being a CEO but also the potential family drama she had (thinking of constantly being compared to someone better than her: her half-sister) and with each time Wardress failed or was badly damaged, Syuen's sanity rapidly deteriorated, so she developed this cold, brash, "large piece of shit" persona in order to cope with the countless failures and deaths that were happening who knows? maybe that hatred of hers isn't at Nikkes (or, to some extent a little bit of hate directed at them), but at herself - she's the failure, which lead to them failing, meaning she failed all of them maybe seeing Wardresss reminded Syuen how much she failed, how much she screwed up so Syuen's final lines at the end were her trying to convince herself to move forward - after all, they're just metal scrap. they're pieces of trash, nothing more! right? ...right? something was hurting her at the end, and it definitely wasn't just her head
Here's an even better kicker. Yuni's translated words were 'does your head still hurt?' when Mihara finally understood her. That wasn't just directed at Mihara, maybe Yuni knows that Syuen gets a headache when she's in emotional pain. She remembers both Mihara, and her creator.
Syuen wanting to feel that sense of accomplishment or superiority. And she thought she did by creating wardress. The fact She had made a different body to make the two stronger after they have won but since it didn't it was rendered useless. This is what i don't understand, if it was useless why she didn't just threw it away or maybe made a wardress mark 2, how bad did she screw herself that she just gave up all together. If it was me i would've just scrapped it but she kept it. And since mihara is using it now, i assume there's another one for yuni and maybe that's leading to her new look after redemption who knows. Maybe I don't see it but i need someone explain it to me like why
Ingrid must know more about the project about mixing raptures and nikkes. During the modernia bond story at the end she was under exam. The scientis said " nikke parts and raptures parts are working togheter like they are ment to be for each other" and ingrid was " shut it down. Cancel all data and just go with a fail experiment" she must know something
My own theory about that was that she recognized that the Raptures had reverse engineered Grimms-series Nikke parts from Old Tales and she saw Rapture-made Grimms parts inside Marian's new body.
Everything goes back to Syuen being the one who caused all this. She got lucky with Matis and bit off more she could chew sending out Wardress and forcing a new SKK to deal with her delusions of grandeur. Setup up for failure and failure happend. SKK managed to get away and bounce back but Wardress took the brunt of Syuen's ineptitude and abuse which broke all of them. Yuni deserved punishment but the extra experiments went way too far. It will be interesting to see how things happen when Wardress meets SKK again.
....I wanna know how the Commander is going to react to the changes to Yuni, heck, the situation with Wardress as a whole. He feels responsible for what has happened to them, feeling that he failed to help them. This also makes me curious how Wardress is going to feel towards the Commander if they meet him.

I wonder where Jien got the idea to attach Rapture parts to a Nikke in the first place. Did she somehow find out about Snow White, who has survived on the surface by basically doing the same thing to herself?
Probably from forensics of what raptures such as blacksmith and the existance of heretics you can theorise that nikke can be compatible under conditions The intrusive thought to merge is there hence the body created but how would you inplant a mind into the Monster without violating human rights.
Rapture-Nikke fusion dates back to Red Ash. But the subject died then. Perhaps the Ark wasn't successful in furthering the research or it was banned for ethical reasons (at least un the public eye) who knows. Securing Modernia likely gave new life to that idea and that's why everyone wants to get her.
Maybe more of Modernia rather than Snow White. I mean, Ark doesn't know much about how Snow White survived in the surface, while they ever got their hands on Modernia, before return her to The Commander.
To the people in discord saying the Commander forgot about Yuni abd Mihara and was a horrible friend and a traitor to them, bruh. The Commander literally brought them up to the Pilgrims in chapter 17-18, where the story insists you pick "mihara" over "Matis" to progress through the story. They we're the reason he was there. These people keep lying about the Commander and don't even care or remember the lore, at all. 😂😂😂
I don't recall that, but considering all the broken bones, near death experiences and the like, we really didn't have, like, a lot of time for Yuni and Mihara. Not to mention that they were with Syuen most, if not all, of the time. Also, Yuni never hated us, only Syuen. She constantly beated and abused them. Even IF we gave them more attention, would that really offset Syuen's abuse?

Crazy how the perpetual bondage obsessed Mihara has one of the most profound and heartful character arcs Ive seen in fiction while still being in permanent leather club gimp attire. Nikke is wild. And I love it.
The main story and anni events are whats got me obsessed. NIKKE is the only game thats made me outright sob 5+ times. Isabel's advice events, almost every anniversary, Mihara and Yuni, Modernia, etc. I wish more people (including some of the fans) could see beyond the superficial. The lead writer behind this game has passion and an amazing story to tell, but so little people will get to see it because its in a raunchy gacha game with a VN format. Which isnt to say I dont love NIKKEs designs. I love them, maybe for different reasons than a lot of the audience (Im a married woman lol) but I still think theyre gorgeous. I just want more events like Rupee's winter event where it was extremely sad and heartfelt. Less Bunny 777 events or fanservicey outpost convos you can find in every anime-styled game ever. Mihara and Yuni are some of my favorite characters despite the S&M implication and I think a big part of that is them having a love story outside of the commander thats so heartfelt. I hope they add more characters like that. Cindarella and Abe have a parent/daughter like relationship that was a really touching step in the right direction too. Sorry for the novel. I love NIKKE so much lmao.

When you say "I wish it was less sexy" you are conceding ground to the people who strip mine every ounce of sexuality out of games, and make all their characters unattractive and unlikable. Furthermore, the raunchy fanservice and the comedic events are the palette cleansers that give the hope the dark setting needs to be not totally bleak, and give players an incentive to fight on. You must see the bigger picture. That every Nikke is the sum of their parts. Mihara is a leather clad masochist who loves getting whipped and she has massive titties and she is also one of the most profoundly caring and wise Nikkes in the roster, with a compelling backstory, and demonstrates a sort of devotional love for Yuni and the Commander that makes her a Saint draped in sinful attire. Whenever you say "I wish it was a little less fanservicey" you are the kind of people Cinderella talks about, unable to admit something is beautiful, embarrassed to admit it, even if there is nothing wrong with it. Cinderella's outlook is practically Nikke's ethos. Beauty outside and beauty inside go hand in hand. And the second you internalize that and look at many modern games with hideous designs and atrocious morality, you'll find the love for external beauty and moral beauty are as one. The fanservice stays. It isn't just there for titillating. It is in fact integral to Nikke's statement as a game. Nikke is practically a crusade against the statement that fanservice and serious storytelling are mutually exclusive. They aren't. In fact they are like chocolate and peanut butter, they go together just great. The sex sells and the sex stays. You will have your big bouncing asses when the guns are firing and you will have the crippling depression of thing's like Marian's corruption and re-corruption after being saved. You will have risqué and raunchy moments and goofy shenanigans and you will have Dorothy's fall to depression. Both are here to stay. Learn from this. Internalize it. Champion it. If you still think characters being sexy and beautiful isn't inspiring, go buy Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I hear it's on sale for dirt cheap.

I love Azur Lane, GFL, Blue Archive, etc. My husband and I both used mods to uncensor steam games together back in the day. I even imported games from JP. I stand in solidarity that beautiful characters are inspiring, and as a teenage girl especially but even as a grown woman characters like those in NIKKE have inspired me to this day. Starting as far back as Samus Aran, to Camilla from Fire Emblem, and to recent gachas. I dont want the designs to change at all. Id be devastated. It is the dialogue in certain circumstances. I don't like harem writing, and it is simply that, a preference. I wish I could play as a woman and see them infatuated with a man unintangled to 'my' character. I wish I *was* a NIKKE, or that there was no 'self insert' and the commander was his own character. The story simply doesnt serve that. Id rather characters dont flirt with what is supposed to be my self insert because Im married in real life, to a man that has all my devotion. It is not a moral smittening or an attempt at censorship, it is a storytelling preference. It hurts me that you'd misunderstand so heavily. I hope that clears things up. EDIT: I am so against what you thought I was for I am literally in awe about how badly I got my message across. People who tell women to cover up are the worst.

Sadly I think that creates wayyyy too much open ended things so I don't anticipate Shift Up going that route. Maybe they could do some sort of customizable Nikke, but I'm still more than satisfied with how much they gave us outright, it feels selfish to ask for more.

Id much rather they focus on what they have, which is a brilliant story, over appealing specifically to a niche, tiny piece of their playerbase. I knew what I was getting into since I was part of this games CBTs. Its just something I appreciate when its there (Think Granblue or GFL).
I really liked the implication that the only reason stuff got to this was because we failed to take down chatterbox, because our failure is what got Syuen in hot water (more irritated) and made Mihara get mind wiped (And see that Rapi couldn't). Had we not failed, Mihara (and maybe Yuni) would of gotten new bodies. (maybe after like 2 years Yuni could "earn" that body but still be unable to speak or something like that). Syuen seems to care for wardress in a way, and when you take into account that we only saw her abuse them when she was in distress (either because of us, the protestors, or crow), makes me wonder how she saw/treated them when everything was alright. 5:45 Also, if I'm not miss remembering the Favorite item story, Laplace got turned into a nikke thanks to Syuen, and Project Matis was what cemented her as a competent CEO.
For how Syuen treated Wardress if everything alright? Well, we already saw it in this Side Story; When Yuni & Mihara asked Syuen to take a picture for the publicity. She was really nice to them. And yeah, if the capturing Chatterbox project was being successful, both Mihara & Yuni will got a new body. At least that's what Syuen intended since the beginning.
Can't really blame SKK for the chatterbox failure. Everyone was in way over their heads. No one knew how smart he was and Wardress was given an impossible task that was way too dangerous for an unproven squad. Add in a commander being forced to do this who was still early in career and not even knowing Rapi was immune to the mind wipe thanks to RH fusion. Too much hidden from us, too much expected of us way too soon. Syuen setup everyone for failure with that run and failure did happen.
@@sparhawk2195it Not really fair because Chatterbox is one of the Rapture queen commander and already knew about the Ark and made a deal with ENIKK. The reason invasion felt as it was them teasing the ARK. They are more powerful rapture that could have invaded and destroyed the entire ARK anytime they want. But they don’t. I feel they are more focused on finding Lilith body and destroying the Pilgrims then bothering the ARK

If i would take a guess. I can be sure that she would treat them even bigger celebrities than matis. They're probably be like syuen herself too really. But that also would lead bigger issues later because even matis got corrupted at some point. Imagine in a different timeline syuen sends wardress instead of matis. Imagine the worse devastation when you're very creations were corrupted in matis place, they be pretty unstoppable consider what yuni is able to pull off. I am one that is married with mihara and even i have a feeling the alternative could be way worse not just me personally but to humanity itself. Welp anyway i gotta save up for mihara and yuni now.
What Missillis made is either criminal or criminal experiments (and fake Villain) Take a look at all the criminals in the roster so far... Crow, Jackal, and Viper (She's Tetra but Syuen have her bomb remote for some reason) Guilty, Sin, and Quency Then we have Yuni and Syuen herself And the M.M.R. that keep memory wipes the students from the Vocational School every failure (And the fake Villain is Drake. hehe) .
Guilty is in dire need of therapy and emotion management. Quency Just likes to escape so she isn't really a problem. Sin is bat shit insane. Crow is, well, Crow. Viper is, well, Viper. Jackal is, well, brain damaged and stupid. Yuni got used and abused and snapped. Syuen is, whatever the hell she is.
Jien is really playing with fire with mixing Nikkes with Raptures like that. If Yuni is the 160th subject like on her coat, then Jien has been messing very things that keep the Ark Nikkes from going for a Mind Switch for a while. Missilis is becoming a huge danger to the Ark as a whole and to be able to hide from Enikk, so it must have huges ties with Sixo.
@@Invizive Yeah but Pioneers have Snow White among them, a true to the letter Gadgeteer Genius who has been fighting these things for at least 100 years already. So she knows how to attach Rapture parts onto herself and Rapunzel (I don't recall Scarlet having any) without any deficit drawbacks. The Ark only has very basic knowledge of the Raptures as it, so doing things like this is utter foolishness and just asking to have a home-brew Heretic who has a personal vendetta against the Ark.
@@shinjiokami my point was against the statement that the idea itself is foolish. As for experiments - research is impossible without them, and a convicted terrorist is a decent subject for that. You could argue that letting her out afterwards is a mistake, but otherwise it is rational. If I had no personal emotions towards, Yuni, I'd consider the punishment barely sufficient for the crime, if we consider morality as well. As Mana said, many people have no chance to see their loved ones anymore at all, their fate is much more cruel and hopeless than Yuni's due to her actions.
From laplace item episode, syuen likely was main contributor to the matis project although not her own, probably carried out as part of the company. Theory assuming misilles is a family conglomarate then that succes edge over other competitors. After becoming CEO these competitors likely became shareholders, pressuring syuen she created wardress to solidify her position and silence the doubters.
7:10 One Last Time? Nope, both still together. Although i hope the commander gains more fame and power overtime and with Enikk thrust to the commander as a person. I hope the Commander will uprooted the Ark dark secrets. And gave Yuni her old body back. Let the punishment change back to what Enikk has judged before Jien experiment. And gave Crow that ironmaiden body that Yuni currently worn. Even though it's rain, it should be sunshine and rainbow after. I hope the commander save wardress squad.

Shift up never forgets even side characters like these that could have been easily left forgotten was given development. Side Stories have been top tier storytelling so far. I hope they continue to deliver.
Matis was Syuen's creation. Specifically Laplace was the first (see Laplace's favorite item). Matis was an example that powerful nikkes (S/SRs) like the Goddess squad can be made and humanity isn't doomed to generic mass produced fodder. Wardress was meant to be the first squad showcasing the perfecting the process to easily create S/SRs by Missilis. But since they failed to capture Chatterbox they were considered a failure and Syuen's boasting meaningless. Think of it this way Matis was Michael Jordan and Wardress was meant to be Koby. At least that's my understanding of the overall story.
If its being retconned so that Matis was not created by Syuen that's a massive L on the writing. It makes Laplace's favorite item and Syuen's desperation to save them from corruption totally stupid. I really hope you got it wrong or a mistranslation or whatever

This whole side story was so painful to watch. It felt like an Sharp Icicle getting drived through my heart. I really stared at a wall for 5 minutes contemplating the amount of cruelty she must've faced.

I just finished chapter 24 and this happens after it. Shuen has to to ANYTHING we ask her, why not ask to reverse Yuni back? Atleast give her facial feature back if not voice.

Exactly, Matis was what cemented her position when she (Syuen) was new to the game and her peers doubted her abilities and qualifications, and it worked since she made one of, if not THE strongest squad in the ark
Some of the comments are honestly annoying or didn't pay attention AT ALL to the story. Carelessly saying that Yuni deserves it, holding no sympathy, or saying the Commander didn't care for her and Mihara really shows they know nothing about the story or just choosing to be ignorant. Jackal, Viper, and Crow gun downed the Counters and left the Commander for dead yet people brush over that so quickly. Yet ignores that Yuni was alone for most of her life, was misunderstood, and had no other choice to undergo the Nikke treatment otherwise she would've died like many others. Her only friend/lover or whatever was Mihara before they met the Commander and took interest. After the failure of capturing Chatterbox, she lost Mihara while Rapi survived the mind wipe (due to plot armor, yes i know there's a reason but still). Then had to constantly put up with Syuen's abuse and the reminder that Mihara is gone.
i really hope that the three get their version of salvation, perhaps between syuen and the two a relationship similar to Araragi and Shinobu from monogatari series, despite everything they don't and didn't want to forgive each other, and yet despite that they still to choose to be together, there's no longer any need for forgiveness. i'm sure Chadmander will be able to help them in some way

The theory that Spendamin is actually made with corpses/dead people. How Raptures are similar to Tyranids. Crow has a tattoo of Khorne.

This is pretty much a "Man In The Iron Mask" situation. Also, NIMPH has been overridden before. Crow is an example of workaround. It's surprising how NIKKE is able to trauma bond us as Commanders.
Yuni had to be punished don't get me wrong. What was done though to her didn't seem like it was done to punish her for what she did to the public, but out of revenge for what she did to Syuen.
Did I miss something? When in Wordless did it imply Syuen didn't make Matis? Also, Laplaces favorite item story tells us that not only was Matis something she made (or at least Laplace), but Syuen hand picked Laplace and the success of Laplace/Matis is what solidified Syuen as the Missilis CEO.
I want to save yuni no matter what, it hurt seeing her like that. I dont want them to leave us hanging for long on this one because changing one of my girls like that is horrific.
Yuni. The Pigeon stuck in a Cage of mans making. All she CAN do is coo. She had to be punished, and to the degree which it was done was outside of Enikks decree. This punishment can and WILL surface at some point. Corruption or a Mind Switch are not far off gor Yuni if nothing is done. There is a VERY good reason as to why Elysion stopped fucking with rapture based experiments that we dont know about, as Ingrid herself killed the programs. But Missilis is now becoming a potential danger to the Ark. And all of this is happening under Syuens nose. With her non the wiser. Jien, an unhinged and forthcoming scientist is willing to do anything and everything in the name of science. If she is left unchecked in the future, whos to say that Mihara AND YUNI wont become Heretics inside of the Ark. Were one step closer as is with what happened to Yuni. Only time will tell.
Honestly i can see why yuni was modified (more like dismembered) so harshly. In the end what yuni done is unforgivable and if not for ennike she would 100% have been been executed and scrapped. The only reason why she wasnt was because she had the slightest bit of value with her specialty in capturing raptures. She doomed hudreds to possibly thousands (or even more) people to their deaths, destroyed the pr of one of the big three, and made nikkephobia even more polarizing. Yet all she gets is effectivly a slap on the wrist with the removal of her voice box and reinstall of nimph. Jien punished her in the most extreme of ways. And although i can agree that it is a absurdly extreme punishment i cannot say that Yuni didnt deserve it.
Yuni's punishment is perfectly Poetic. This game is MEANT to be in a Grim Dark universe. Something almost to that of the Warhammer 40k universe. This penance she will serve is perfect for the universe to remind the player base exactly WHO/WHAT the Nikke are to the citizens of the Ark and that US/Cummander seeing them as people/woman and friends is an ANOMOLY. You would think the existence of the outer rim and Exotic would remind people of this, or of Underworld Queens and Sixo incidents but people ALWAYS seem to forget and scream it's inhumane and wrong etc. THIS was the perfect way to show exactly the stakes and the type of universe Nikke is. This is a grim world and Nikke are the bottom of the totem pole. They are humanity's slaves and it's protectors. It's Guard Dog but also it's stress ball. They are not human they are made for a purpose and if they cannot serve it they are disposable and if they are a negative to humanity they should be removed. I am surprised Yuni got to live I was 9/10 certain she would be shut off of sent of a death mission that would unambiguously kinda kill her off till she's needed in the story. It does put into perspective however, what fate is Crow in? If they went this hard on Yuni is crow even still in a body or a brain jar? Or worse. P.S. yeah I can tell you didn't play Laplace favorite item.
Whqt are you on about nikke has nothing to do with grimdark just because something awful happens doesnt immediatley make it "grimdark" its this mindset thats leaking into 40k and other settings nikke is a noble dark setting if anything
I may be misremembering but I think Yuni bomb is not on her neck but her heart, so even if she tries to remove it it is impossible, Mihara did get a bomb of the same power as Yuni on her neck and is linked so it explode at the same time as Yuni bomb.

Hot take, All crimes can be forgotten with time and commitment. Any one can be redeemable, but sometimes the needed time and commitment can go beyond human lifespans, but for a nikke, I think Yuni can be redeemed with many decades of work. I wonder if Yuni is able to become a nikke again, if not, then I guess this is a poetic story of two lovers that feel alive in pain, showing proof of their life and struggle. I am interested in Jien, about her technological prowess. She managed to achieve something the greatest minds struggled to do before the Ark's construction. I wonder what she can achive.
I had a very negative reaction to this on stream. My reaction was on the “Oh ennik was fairly light on the punishment side” And then seeing what syuen’s half sister Had done to Yuni made me angry, and want to cry. And also made me think and say “isn’t that going to cause Yuni to suffer even more since the reason Nikke are human shaped because of the brain, and the less human they become the more likely mind shifts happen, and possibly worse. This side story pushes me even closer towards Dorthy and I don’t like that.
I don't know, Syuen, I'd say Wardress is better than Matis. I had a better time using Counters with Wardress against Talkative/Chatterbox than Rapi with Matis against Harvester.
I am glad she gets punished this badly. Playing with fire. But still in ch 23. I am on rage toward Yuni and Crow. Hope the worst for both. They are beyomd redemption for me
Why do I get a sudden sneaking suspicion that Jien is actually #000000? If she’s operating “off the grid” as it were, criminal activities would be a good way to fund herself.
It was creepy yet... I have no sympathy for Yuni. She had many chances to help the Commander. That being said... people forget that giving Yuni the Darth Vader treatment was not a plan by the Arc. This was planned out by Syuen sister. I left this side story thinking... there is someone way worse than Syuen.
The fact that Yuni is stripped of her ability to speak is horrifying to me. I'd actually debate that it's the worst part of her punishment: quite literally "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream." Imagine being forced to be around the single person you love most and left physically unable to affirm it. Absolutely dehumanizing. She deserved to be punished for her actions, but not like this man. Not like this... I just want Wardress to be happy. Their lives have literally been on a downward spiral since chapter 4. I'm still holding onto the hope that eventually, once she gets a bit of redemption and maybe is able to make peace with Syuen, she'll be gifted her own version of the spare body that Mihara got and maybe get her speech back.
I doubt they'll even give crow the chance to be in a body again. They're going to run whatever studies on her brain then blender it and pour it down the drain, if they haven't already at this time in the story.
If crow ever gets and alter costume i ain't pulling for her, she can go to hell, double ? I say make her into 85% rapture and turn her into a spectacle

Its stories like this that make me realize the arcs humans are the actual villains. Suen deserved every bit of that a** beating she took and whereas i agree Yuni should have been punished, this was extreme and way over the top in my opinion. Only silver lining for me is I dont thing Syuen wanted that punishment for her. It was stated it was done while she was still in the hospital and without her knowledge. Im not gonna say her punishment would have been fair by any means, but her sister sounds worse.

In the Main Story, there are several times that Andersen doing things for the Commander, even as far as threatening Burningum, and donating his own Blood. I think there is a special connection between Commander and Andersen; It's just we still don't know what it is yet. Some theory said, that the Current Commander (a'ka characters player) is actually a Clone of the Legendary Commander. And maybe, Andersen is the Legendary Commander himself. If both of that are true, maybe that's the special connection between Commander & Andersen. But yeah, we still don't know if that's true or not. We just need to wait and see.
I never expected that thigs would go this way. I mean, Yuni was one of the most sexualized Nikkes. And now she surpassed all the others and has become the elast sexualized design in the game. So, unless she has a sudden transformation where she properly fuses with her rapture parts, and becomes a Pseudo-heretic, and recovers her form... She's going to be the most unsexualized nikke ever. I do think that this punishment went too far, especialy because of the things that could go wrong with this. But i'm very pleased thst they chose to go on this direction. It has so much potential for the future, and i can't wait to see what will happen in the future with my favorite duo of leather girls. Imagine how the commander is going to react meeting with the new Yuni? And vice versa? There's so much potential here...
I always loved Mihara and Yuni and I was very anxious to see what would happen to them and My God... This Side Story was very, very good and extremely sad and tragic. I loved that now they will probably get a lot of attention at events and in the campaign ❤👑🔥

Understandable. However, i couldn't have the heart to get angry at her. Maybe it's because i love mihara and seeing her crying yuni made me feel wanting to help her.
I still can’t get over this story 😭 It hurt me to an entirely different level… and I mean it, and I am not someone who goes around crying at every tragic story that comes across… Wasn’t a big fan of Yuni but I really felt all her pain from the very beginning, I felt how it built up to well you know what, I certainly don’t justify her actions, she DOES deserve a punishment (and people in reddit kept fighting me as if I was saying otherwise when I mentioned a million times that what she did was unforgivable), but seriously I really felt this punishment was super excessive (while her original punishment was going to be super light). Personally I’ll forgive Yuni a million times just like Mihara did, but that’s just me (also I haven’t forgotten how Ark humans are the biggest pieces of 💩 ever)
Personally I never like yuni, from the moment she made her first impression in the story I didn’t like her at all. The tragic incident she did and the damage it followed really didn’t influence my dislike for her at all. And now with this new piece of info on her story, yeah I still don’t like her. No amount of tragedies or emotional pulls is gonna change my viewpoint of her. Now at least I don’t despise or hate her unlike another character in nikke.

my hot take on this is that, because of the ever-increasing pressure on her - not just her position of being a CEO but also the potential family drama she had (thinking of constantly being compared to someone better than her: her half-sister)
and with each time Wardress failed or was badly damaged, Syuen's sanity rapidly deteriorated, so she developed this cold, brash, "large piece of shit" persona in order to cope with the countless failures and deaths that were happening
who knows? maybe that hatred of hers isn't at Nikkes (or, to some extent a little bit of hate directed at them), but at herself - she's the failure, which lead to them failing, meaning she failed all of them

Yuni's translated words were 'does your head still hurt?' when Mihara finally understood her. That wasn't just directed at Mihara, maybe Yuni knows that Syuen gets a headache when she's in emotional pain. She remembers both Mihara, and her creator.
Syuen wanting to feel that sense of accomplishment or superiority. And she thought she did by creating wardress. The fact She had made a different body to make the two stronger after they have won but since it didn't it was rendered useless.
This is what i don't understand, if it was useless why she didn't just threw it away or maybe made a wardress mark 2, how bad did she screw herself that she just gave up all together. If it was me i would've just scrapped it but she kept it. And since mihara is using it now, i assume there's another one for yuni and maybe that's leading to her new look after redemption who knows. Ingrid must know more about the project about mixing raptures and nikkes. During the modernia bond story at the end she was under exam. The scientis said " nikke parts and raptures parts are working togheter like they are ment to be for each other" and ingrid was " shut it down. Cancel all data and just go with a fail experiment" she must know something
My own theory about that was that she recognized that the Raptures had reverse engineered Grimms-series Nikke parts from Old Tales and she saw Rapture-made Grimms parts inside Marian's new body.
Everything goes back to Syuen being the one who caused all this. She got lucky with Matis and bit off more she could chew sending out Wardress and forcing a new SKK to deal with her delusions of grandeur. Setup up for failure and failure happend. SKK managed to get away and bounce back but Wardress took the brunt of Syuen's ineptitude and abuse which broke all of them.
Yuni deserved punishment but the extra experiments went way too far. It will be interesting to see how things happen when Wardress meets SKK again.
Yuni losing her voice is a fitting punishment. But what jien and misslis was horrifying
....I wanna know how the Commander is going to react to the changes to Yuni, heck, the situation with Wardress as a whole. He feels responsible for what has happened to them, feeling that he failed to help them.
This also makes me curious how Wardress is going to feel towards the Commander if they meet him.

Rapture-Nikke fusion dates back to Red Ash. But the subject died then. Perhaps the Ark wasn't successful in furthering the research or it was banned for ethical reasons (at least un the public eye) who knows. Securing Modernia likely gave new life to that idea and that's why everyone wants to get her.
Maybe more of Modernia rather than Snow White. I mean, Ark doesn't know much about how Snow White survived in the surface, while they ever got their hands on Modernia, before return her to The Commander.

The Commander literally brought them up to the Pilgrims in chapter 17-18, where the story insists you pick "mihara" over "Matis" to progress through the story. They we're the reason he was there.

I don't recall that, but considering all the broken bones, near death experiences and the like, we really didn't have, like, a lot of time for Yuni and Mihara. Not to mention that they were with Syuen most, if not all, of the time. Also, Yuni never hated us, only Syuen. She constantly beated and abused them. Even IF we gave them more attention, would that really offset Syuen's abuse?

Crazy how the perpetual bondage obsessed Mihara has one of the most profound and heartful character arcs Ive seen in fiction while still being in permanent leather club gimp attire. Nikke is wild. And I love it.
The main story and anni events are whats got me obsessed. NIKKE is the only game thats made me outright sob 5+ times. Isabel's advice events, almost every anniversary, Mihara and Yuni, Modernia, etc.
I wish more people (including some of the fans) could see beyond the superficial. The lead writer behind this game has passion and an amazing story to tell, but so little people will get to see it because its in a raunchy gacha game with a VN format.
Which isnt to say I dont love NIKKEs designs. I love them, maybe for different reasons than a lot of the audience (Im a married woman lol) but I still think theyre gorgeous. I just want more events like Rupee's winter event where it was extremely sad and heartfelt. Less Bunny 777 events or fanservicey outpost convos you can find in every anime-styled game ever.
Mihara and Yuni are some of my favorite characters despite the S&M implication and I think a big part of that is them having a love story outside of the commander thats so heartfelt. I hope they add more characters like that. Cindarella and Abe have a parent/daughter like relationship that was a really touching step in the right direction too.

When you say "I wish it was less sexy" you are conceding ground to the people who strip mine every ounce of sexuality out of games, and make all their characters unattractive and unlikable. Furthermore, the raunchy fanservice and the comedic events are the palette cleansers that give the hope the dark setting needs to be not totally bleak, and give players an incentive to fight on. You must see the bigger picture. That every Nikke is the sum of their parts. Mihara is a leather clad masochist who loves getting whipped and she has massive titties and she is also one of the most profoundly caring and wise Nikkes in the roster, with a compelling backstory, and demonstrates a sort of devotional love for Yuni and the Commander that makes her a Saint draped in sinful attire. Whenever you say "I wish it was a little less fanservicey" you are the kind of people Cinderella talks about, unable to admit something is beautiful, embarrassed to admit it, even if there is nothing wrong with it. Cinderella's outlook is practically Nikke's ethos. Beauty outside and beauty inside go hand in hand. And the second you internalize that and look at many modern games with hideous designs and atrocious morality, you'll find the love for external beauty and moral beauty are as one. The fanservice stays. It isn't just there for titillating. It is in fact integral to Nikke's statement as a game. Nikke is practically a crusade against the statement that fanservice and serious storytelling are mutually exclusive. They aren't. In fact they are like chocolate and peanut butter, they go together just great. The sex sells and the sex stays. You will have your big bouncing asses when the guns are firing and you will have the crippling depression of thing's like Marian's corruption and re-corruption after being saved. You will have risqué and raunchy moments and goofy shenanigans and you will have Dorothy's fall to depression. Both are here to stay. Learn from this. Internalize it. Champion it. If you still think characters being sexy and beautiful isn't inspiring, go buy Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I hear it's on sale for dirt cheap.

I love Azur Lane, GFL, Blue Archive, etc. My husband and I both used mods to uncensor steam games together back in the day. I even imported games from JP. I stand in solidarity that beautiful characters are inspiring, and as a teenage girl especially but even as a grown woman characters like those in NIKKE have inspired me to this day. Starting as far back as Samus Aran, to Camilla from Fire Emblem, and to recent gachas.
I dont want the designs to change at all. Id be devastated. It is the dialogue in certain circumstances. I don't like harem writing, and it is simply that, a preference. I wish I could play as a woman and see them infatuated with a man unintangled to 'my' character. I wish I *was* a NIKKE, or that there was no 'self insert' and the commander was his own character. The story simply doesnt serve that. Id rather characters dont flirt with what is supposed to be my self insert because Im married in real life, to a man that has all my devotion. It is not a moral smittening or an attempt at censorship, it is a storytelling preference.

I really liked the implication that the only reason stuff got to this was because we failed to take down chatterbox, because our failure is what got Syuen in hot water (more irritated) and made Mihara get mind wiped (And see that Rapi couldn't). Had we not failed, Mihara (and maybe Yuni) would of gotten new bodies. (maybe after like 2 years Yuni could "earn" that body but still be unable to speak or something like that). Syuen seems to care for wardress in a way, and when you take into account that we only saw her abuse them when she was in distress (either because of us, the protestors, or crow), makes me wonder how she saw/treated them when everything was alright.
5:45 Also, if I'm not miss remembering the Favorite item story, Laplace got turned into a nikke thanks to Syuen, and Project Matis was what cemented her as a competent CEO.
For how Syuen treated Wardress if everything alright? Well, we already saw it in this Side Story; When Yuni & Mihara asked Syuen to take a picture for the publicity. She was really nice to them. And yeah, if the capturing Chatterbox project was being successful, both Mihara & Yuni will got a new body. At least that's what Syuen intended since the beginning.
Can't really blame SKK for the chatterbox failure. Everyone was in way over their heads. No one knew how smart he was and Wardress was given an impossible task that was way too dangerous for an unproven squad. Add in a commander being forced to do this who was still early in career and not even knowing Rapi was immune to the mind wipe thanks to RH fusion. Too much hidden from us, too much expected of us way too soon. Syuen setup everyone for failure with that run and failure did happen.
@@sparhawk2195it Not really fair because Chatterbox is one of the Rapture queen commander and already knew about the Ark and made a deal with ENIKK. The reason invasion felt as it was them teasing the ARK. They are more powerful rapture that could have invaded and destroyed the entire ARK anytime they want. But they don’t. I feel they are more focused on finding Lilith body and destroying the Pilgrims then bothering the ARK

Jien is really playing with fire with mixing Nikkes with Raptures like that. If Yuni is the 160th subject like on her coat, then Jien has been messing very things that keep the Ark Nikkes from going for a Mind Switch for a while. Missilis is becoming a huge danger to the Ark as a whole and to be able to hide from Enikk, so it must have huges ties with Sixo.
To be fair, Pilgrims have been using rapture parts in repairs for a while and only got stronger from that
@@Invizive Yeah but Pioneers have Snow White among them, a true to the letter Gadgeteer Genius who has been fighting these things for at least 100 years already. So she knows how to attach Rapture parts onto herself and Rapunzel (I don't recall Scarlet having any) without any deficit drawbacks.
The Ark only has very basic knowledge of the Raptures as it, so doing things like this is utter foolishness and just asking to have a home-brew Heretic who has a personal vendetta against the Ark.

If I had no personal emotions towards, Yuni, I'd consider the punishment barely sufficient for the crime, if we consider morality as well.
As Mana said, many people have no chance to see their loved ones anymore at all, their fate is much more cruel and hopeless than Yuni's due to her actions.
From laplace item episode, syuen likely was main contributor to the matis project although not her own, probably carried out as part of the company.
Theory assuming misilles is a family conglomarate then that succes edge over other competitors.
After becoming CEO these competitors likely became shareholders, pressuring syuen she created wardress to solidify her position and silence the doubters.
I NEED this version of Yuni to be made playable.

Shift up never forgets even side characters like these that could have been easily left forgotten was given development. Side Stories have been top tier storytelling so far. I hope they continue to deliver.

Matis was Syuen's creation. Specifically Laplace was the first (see Laplace's favorite item). Matis was an example that powerful nikkes (S/SRs) like the Goddess squad can be made and humanity isn't doomed to generic mass produced fodder.
Wardress was meant to be the first squad showcasing the perfecting the process to easily create S/SRs by Missilis. But since they failed to capture Chatterbox they were considered a failure and Syuen's boasting meaningless.
Think of it this way Matis was Michael Jordan and Wardress was meant to be Koby.
At least that's my understanding of the overall story.
If its being retconned so that Matis was not created by Syuen that's a massive L on the writing. It makes Laplace's favorite item and Syuen's desperation to save them from corruption totally stupid.

This whole side story was so painful to watch. It felt like an Sharp Icicle getting drived through my heart. I really stared at a wall for 5 minutes contemplating the amount of cruelty she must've faced.

Exactly, Matis was what cemented her position when she (Syuen) was new to the game and her peers doubted her abilities and qualifications, and it worked since she made one of, if not THE strongest squad in the ark
Some of the comments are honestly annoying or didn't pay attention AT ALL to the story. Carelessly saying that Yuni deserves it, holding no sympathy, or saying the Commander didn't care for her and Mihara really shows they know nothing about the story or just choosing to be ignorant.
Jackal, Viper, and Crow gun downed the Counters and left the Commander for dead yet people brush over that so quickly. Yet ignores that Yuni was alone for most of her life, was misunderstood, and had no other choice to undergo the Nikke treatment otherwise she would've died like many others. Her only friend/lover or whatever was Mihara before they met the Commander and took interest. After the failure of capturing Chatterbox, she lost Mihara while Rapi survived the mind wipe (due to plot armor, yes i know there's a reason but still). Then had to constantly put up with Syuen's abuse and the reminder that Mihara is gone.
i really hope that the three get their version of salvation, perhaps between syuen and the two a relationship similar to Araragi and Shinobu from monogatari series, despite everything they don't and didn't want to forgive each other, and yet despite that they still to choose to be together, there's no longer any need for forgiveness.

Yuni had to be punished don't get me wrong. What was done though to her didn't seem like it was done to punish her for what she did to the public, but out of revenge for what she did to Syuen.
Did I miss something? When in Wordless did it imply Syuen didn't make Matis? Also, Laplaces favorite item story tells us that not only was Matis something she made (or at least Laplace), but Syuen hand picked Laplace and the success of Laplace/Matis is what solidified Syuen as the Missilis CEO.
I want to save yuni no matter what, it hurt seeing her like that. I dont want them to leave us hanging for long on this one because changing one of my girls like that is horrific.

Honestly i can see why yuni was modified (more like dismembered) so harshly. In the end what yuni done is unforgivable and if not for ennike she would 100% have been been executed and scrapped. The only reason why she wasnt was because she had the slightest bit of value with her specialty in capturing raptures. She doomed hudreds to possibly thousands (or even more) people to their deaths, destroyed the pr of one of the big three, and made nikkephobia even more polarizing. Yet all she gets is effectivly a slap on the wrist with the removal of her voice box and reinstall of nimph.
Jien punished her in the most extreme of ways. And although i can agree that it is a absurdly extreme punishment i cannot say that Yuni didnt deserve it.
Yuni's punishment is perfectly Poetic.
This game is MEANT to be in a Grim Dark universe. Something almost to that of the Warhammer 40k universe.
This penance she will serve is perfect for the universe to remind the player base exactly WHO/WHAT the Nikke are to the citizens of the Ark and that US/Cummander seeing them as people/woman and friends is an ANOMOLY.
You would think the existence of the outer rim and Exotic would remind people of this, or of Underworld Queens and Sixo incidents but people ALWAYS seem to forget and scream it's inhumane and wrong etc.
THIS was the perfect way to show exactly the stakes and the type of universe Nikke is. This is a grim world and Nikke are the bottom of the totem pole. They are humanity's slaves and it's protectors. It's Guard Dog but also it's stress ball. They are not human they are made for a purpose and if they cannot serve it they are disposable and if they are a negative to humanity they should be removed.
I am surprised Yuni got to live I was 9/10 certain she would be shut off of sent of a death mission that would unambiguously kinda kill her off till she's needed in the story. It does put into perspective however, what fate is Crow in? If they went this hard on Yuni is crow even still in a body or a brain jar? Or worse.
P.S. yeah I can tell you didn't play Laplace favorite item.
Whqt are you on about nikke has nothing to do with grimdark just because something awful happens doesnt immediatley make it "grimdark" its this mindset thats leaking into 40k and other settings nikke is a noble dark setting if anything

I may be misremembering but I think Yuni bomb is not on her neck but her heart, so even if she tries to remove it it is impossible, Mihara did get a bomb of the same power as Yuni on her neck and is linked so it explode at the same time as Yuni bomb.

Hot take, All crimes can be forgotten with time and commitment. Any one can be redeemable, but sometimes the needed time and commitment can go beyond human lifespans, but for a nikke, I think Yuni can be redeemed with many decades of work.
I wonder if Yuni is able to become a nikke again, if not, then I guess this is a poetic story of two lovers that feel alive in pain, showing proof of their life and struggle.
I am interested in Jien, about her technological prowess. She managed to achieve something the greatest minds struggled to do before the Ark's construction. I wonder what she can achive.

I had a very negative reaction to this on stream. My reaction was on the
“Oh ennik was fairly light on the punishment side”
And then seeing what syuen’s half sister Had done to Yuni made me angry, and want to cry.
And also made me think and say “isn’t that going to cause Yuni to suffer even more since the reason Nikke are human shaped because of the brain, and the less human they become the more likely mind shifts happen, and possibly worse.
This side story pushes me even closer towards Dorthy and I don’t like that.
I don't know, Syuen, I'd say Wardress is better than Matis. I had a better time using Counters with Wardress against Talkative/Chatterbox than Rapi with Matis against Harvester.

Why do I get a sudden sneaking suspicion that Jien is actually #000000? If she’s operating “off the grid” as it were, criminal activities would be a good way to fund herself.
It was creepy yet... I have no sympathy for Yuni. She had many chances to help the Commander. That being said... people forget that giving Yuni the Darth Vader treatment was not a plan by the Arc. This was planned out by Syuen sister. I left this side story thinking... there is someone way worse than Syuen.

The fact that Yuni is stripped of her ability to speak is horrifying to me. I'd actually debate that it's the worst part of her punishment: quite literally "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream." Imagine being forced to be around the single person you love most and left physically unable to affirm it. Absolutely dehumanizing.
She deserved to be punished for her actions, but not like this man. Not like this...
I just want Wardress to be happy. Their lives have literally been on a downward spiral since chapter 4. I'm still holding onto the hope that eventually, once she gets a bit of redemption and maybe is able to make peace with Syuen, she'll be gifted her own version of the spare body that Mihara got and maybe get her speech back.

Its stories like this that make me realize the arcs humans are the actual villains. Suen deserved every bit of that a** beating she took and whereas i agree Yuni should have been punished, this was extreme and way over the top in my opinion. Only silver lining for me is I dont thing Syuen wanted that punishment for her. It was stated it was done while she was still in the hospital and without her knowledge. Im not gonna say her punishment would have been fair by any means, but her sister sounds worse.

@@HadesOfOlympusI'm agree that Ingrid is too serious, and that she can get rid of The Commander, if the situation asked for it. But I'm sure that's not the case with Andersen. In the Main Story, there are several times that Andersen doing things for the Commander, even as far as threatening Burningum, and donating his own Blood. I think there is a special connection between Commander and Andersen; It's just we still don't know what it is yet.
Some theory said, that the Current Commander (a'ka characters player) is actually a Clone of the Legendary Commander. And maybe, Andersen is the Legendary Commander himself. If both of that are true, maybe that's the special connection between Commander & Andersen. But yeah, we still don't know if that's true or not. We just need to wait and see.

I never expected that thigs would go this way. I mean, Yuni was one of the most sexualized Nikkes. And now she surpassed all the others and has become the elast sexualized design in the game. So, unless she has a sudden transformation where she properly fuses with her rapture parts, and becomes a Pseudo-heretic, and recovers her form... She's going to be the most unsexualized nikke ever.
I do think that this punishment went too far, especialy because of the things that could go wrong with this. But i'm very pleased thst they chose to go on this direction. It has so much potential for the future, and i can't wait to see what will happen in the future with my favorite duo of leather girls. Imagine how the commander is going to react meeting with the new Yuni? And vice versa? There's so much potential here...

Wasn’t a big fan of Yuni but I really felt all her pain from the very beginning, I felt how it built up to well you know what, I certainly don’t justify her actions, she DOES deserve a punishment (and people in reddit kept fighting me as if I was saying otherwise when I mentioned a million times that what she did was unforgivable), but seriously I really felt this punishment was super excessive (while her original punishment was going to be super light).
Personally I’ll forgive Yuni a million times just like Mihara did, but that’s just me (also I haven’t forgotten how Ark humans are the biggest pieces of 💩 ever)
Personally I never like yuni, from the moment she made her first impression in the story I didn’t like her at all. The tragic incident she did and the damage it followed really didn’t influence my dislike for her at all. And now with this new piece of info on her story, yeah I still don’t like her. No amount of tragedies or emotional pulls is gonna change my viewpoint of her. Now at least I don’t despise or hate her unlike another character in nikke.
