Glock 42! Reliable and Easy to Shoot!

This is an older review of the Glock 42 which has been edited to comply with TH-cam Community Standards. I believe the G42 remains relevant in the .380 market, even with lower capacity, due to its reliability and that it is easier to shoot than others. I still recommend it to some shooters over the Ruger LCP Max for those reasons.

My every day carry is a Glock 42 with Trijicon HD XR Night Sights and a 9 round ETS magazine fitted with an XGRIP for a full three-finger grip. I load the magazine with 8 rounds maximum, plus one in the chamber, to ensure 100% reliability. Ammo of choice is Underwood Extreme Penetrator 380+P. This combination has very little recoil, is very controllable and EXTREMELY accurate! I carry it 24/7 in a pocket holster and honestly it's so light and compact that I forget it's there. The best self-defense pistol is the one you never leave home without!

I switched to the 42 for edc recently. I have to agree this is probably the best pocket size 380. I held just about every modern common pocket pistol out there when I was shopping for a pocket or summer carry gun. Went with the 42 it’s bigger then a lot of the others and doesn’t hold as many rounds as a few others. Not a glock guy myself but the single stack ones I like. I bought it for summer carry but find myself just carrying the 42 over my sub compact 9mm. My trigger is also way over 5.5 pounds I don’t know we’re glock is getting those numbers lol but I’m ok with it for a pocket gun and like you said the reset is really short. Also the warne plus two base plate is a nice add on it looks longer then the factory pinky extended mag but when it’s in hand it’s not really any big difference same with carrying it apex. Also seems to be very good quality now you got 9 rounds. And lastly love them or hate them glocks work. And for a pistol designed for point blank distance I want to know it’s going to work every time and that’s something glock doesn’t have a problem with just working.

I love my g42 and I have never had a malfunction with it. I have discovered that it's prone to limp wristing and I think it's probably due to the heavier slide spring.

It is definitely a solid pistol as all Glocks are. Just wish it has more capacity like the LCP Max. The Glock is, however, made a lot better than the Ruger.

You must've got a defective G42 cause everybody else's jams, FTF, StoveTops and everything else. You should send it back and have them give you the one everyone else has, you have the exception not the rule with the G42! It's trash period!

@@smibru I don't know where you got your information but my experience with the g42 has been great. I know there was some problems with them when they first came out but Glock jumped on it and got it straightened out.

My 42 will NOT cycle Hydra Shock ammo at all. Jams EVERY ROUND. Gun was sent back to Glock and had multiple parts replaced and still jams every round of Hydra Shock. Full Metal Jackets shoot fine. I will try other Hollow point ammo soon.

Bought one yesterday and I cannot get it to cycle at all through three magazines and ammo change. Will contact Glock Monday.
