I wanted to share a fun story with you. I have a 6 month old son, and like most babies he enjoys falling asleep to music. However, unlike most babies, he ONLY falls asleep to metal. See, when we first brought him home, we were having trouble calming him down to get to sleep. My husband started playing music through TH-cam while rocking the baby one night. We tried lullabies, classical, acapella, even country, but none of them would stop his crying. Then your cover of "Zombie" started, and within 10 seconds our son went silent and curled into his dad, and was asleep before the song ended. Since then, we have been turning on one of your songs for him every night. Tonight it was "Hell Fire" 😆 Sorry this was long, but I wanted to thank you for giving my kid awesome music, and I hope you enjoyed reading about your tiniest fan!

You can try Colm's version now he just recently came out with it. I generally prefer Colm but I think Johnathan did a better cover of this song. Still would give Colm's a listen.
Colm's version is not bad, Jonathan's is more convincing and powerful as for me. And the guitar here is killing!

The original song was written by Dolores O'Riordan. The song was a protest against the IRA's (Irish Republican Army) actions during a time in Irish history known as the Troubles. The song was a reaction to the Bombings in Warrington, England, that resulted in the deaths of two young children. The Troubles was a period of violence and civil unrest in Ireland and Northern Ireland that spanned from 1968-1998. The effects of this event are still felt to this day. Despite Ireland celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Cease Fire (Good Friday Agreement) between the mostly Protestant pro-UK Northern Ireland and the rest of the mostly Catholic, Republic of Ireland, people have not forgotten the events. Over 3700 people were killed during that 30-year span of violence. The main groups of the conflict were the IRA, British Security Forces, and the Ulster Volunteers. Peace may exist but the memories of The Troubles still weigh heavy on the minds of those who lived through it. Northern Ireland is facing a suicide crisis from the many victims that survived the Troubles but have been left severely traumatized. Today, a pair of statues in Derry, Northern Ireland, stands as a symbol of peace, hope, and possible union of Ireland.
This version that this awesome artist just sang was a newer version, commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. It was meant to be recorded with a band called "The Bad Wolves" but unfortunately Dolores O'Riordan died from an accident involving alcohol days prior to the recording date. Some of the lyrics were altered to meet a more modern perspective and how the wounds of The Troubles are still visible across Ireland and some parts of Great Britain to this day. Today, North Ireland is far more diverse than it was 20 years ago and there may be a possible reunion of Ireland. Northern Ireland is still part of the United Kingdom but if the people pursue unity, Britain would not stop them. It's up to the people to decide their fate. Will Ireland become united once again? Or will tension between people who share the same Christian values, language, and history remain separated? We will see.

I'm sure you know, but in case the video title wasn't enough... This version of the song was done by Bad Wolves, who were set to record their cover with Dolores, but she tragically passed a couple days before (give or take) they were meant to record.
@@Ratspressoh almost right, she died the day she was supposed to record. I think Bad wolves did a wonderful rendition that is on par with the original, and i really do wish that she had put her vocals on it before she passed.
Your last few sentences are a bit misleading... The North of Ireland shares Christian values, language, and history with England and Scotland, too, which is why there's a divide with the Southern Republic in the first place.

Oh i've seen that one and I loved it! It almost made me want to attempt a cover of that song, but I had no idea how to put my own spin on it to make it different from his but still keep that same level of emotion!

His voice were perfect, can't say that about the guitar during the chorus though. Didn't fit in well at all and made the cover sound noisy.
This song has always been emotional to me cause the original is about all the troubles in northern ireland and my dad grew up in around bombs, gunfire etc, many of his friends were killed and he almost was beaten to death and now I live here, learning about innocent people stories on both sides its heartbreaking what they went through. I've been to so many murals, graves etc. It's a shame most of the world doesn't even know it even happened. Growing up in England people didn't even know about it. Just thought I'd share lol.

My father was born in 68 just as it was kicking off. He was always surrounded by danger and witnessed someone getting shot right in front of him when he was 12 and almost getting shot himself by rubber bullets on 3 separate occasions. Honestly if he wasn't careful I'd never been born which makes me thankful that he was smart and stayed away from the gunfire and riots. Today he always tells me how he saw tanks driving on the roads and Chinooks flying overhead.
My father grew up in the troubles and this would happen to him too. When his sister was gonna be born him and his family moved to the Republic. I didn't even know he was northern Irish until I did a report on the troubles.
I'm not big on history but as a proud irishman I'm obsessed with Irish history.

It's a song about the continued fighting in Ireland after the 1916 Rising against the British Empire, which in turn lead to the Irish Civil War in 1922. Ireland was split after the Rising (North owned by the UK, Republic, it's own country).
The song is more specifically aimed at the 80s/90s up North, where people were being blown up and shot left and right because some of the Northern Irish wanted to stay as part of the UK whilst others wanted to be part of the Republic.
Hope that adds more power to the original version for you.

Man this is great. So many people who cover Zombie try to make it cleaner sounding and it is the worst thing you could do with the song. The song is a emotionally fuel cry to stop war so making it sound cleaner takes the emotion out of it but you do it right.

Pretty sure the idea of Zombies and Rock Music weren’t invented yet in 1916, so why would someone use a form of music not invented or use a term no one has heard of yet?
@@Norinia yeah I was wrong the lyric were from the original song by the cranberries, this one is a cover of a cover done by bad wolf and they changed some of the lyrics to fit the time they released it which was 2018.

The Cranberries was a band on my
Bucket list to see. I regret that I’ll never get to see them play live. Between Chester, Dolores and my dad all passing within a 6 month span. It happens in 3s right? I never thought I’d feel the impact of losing someone I’ve never met at hard as Chester’s loss hit me. Then when Dolores passed I was heart broken, devastated and numb all at the same time. Thank you for keeping their music alive with covers. Not nearly enough people can do songs justice the way you do.
