There appears to be nothing you won't try which is part of the great appeal of your channel.
Great content. I grew up with VWs and that led to a career in restoring vintage Porsches. Keep it coming.
Great ideas on the powder coat!! I had a summer job at a factory that did powder paint, it was on a conveyor thru a room sized oven. Your solution is Genius!💥💥
this car will be much better than new.
I doupt seriously that VW used powder coat process when they built that car
very good video
Good work on the powder, I got a old oven for free and its just died, out to find another small one ;) Hot flocking is a good quick way to coat them.
I needed this motivation to get back to work. Thanks keep makin more.
This is really neat Mike. Looks good
MIke, your bug colors are all really nice. This looks more blue than a polar silver, and tbh, looks better than polar silver. Maybe I missed that episode, last one I saw you were working the area under the front windshield. I have a bunch of Type IV heater boxes and exhaust bits, I think this video came at the right time... I could try this pre-heat and power coat on those parts. Thanks !
yea its strato silver l 227 and totally perfect match to the original color.
Hey Mike ! nice
Hey Mike it would be best if you use some fiberglass resin in the cracks of the steering wheel it will keep it from coming back a whole lot longer.
Hi Mike, great idea looking good the powder Coating👍🏻 the VW Oval. comes very nicely along🤗, soon ready for the first drive ?? 🇺🇸.Greetings.Hubertus 🇳🇴🇳🇱👍🏻☮🙏🏻
Lookin' good!
Can't wait for this to hit the streets!
Not bad! 👍🏼👍🏼
beautiful//thanks for saving 1 more
My pleasure 😊
since I started youtube I have saved thousands. Many more people are learning how to save a car. now I have duplicated myself. You would not believe how many people tell me their stories.
For those smaller parts, it might be better to buy a cheap toaster oven and coat them traditionally. For parts that are too large for a toaster oven, try heating them in your kitchen oven to 500 degrees, then run out to coat them outside quickly. I’m going to try a toaster oven on some front end parts, and a hot coat on brake drums heated in the kitchen… just gotta make certain they are clean with no chemicals first. I think drums will keep their heat long enough to get them sprayed. Since I’m only gonna coat the fronts, I can put them on a piece of metal in the oven and coat them on that same metal… no need to hang them up.
silver requires hot coat....I think chrome does too. Yea really easy to use the torch though. I think partly it is the powder gun not an even coat. I dont know really. Pre heat everything before you do it. Heat it up and let it cool then coat with powder this removes contamination.
Powder Paint is nice just have to sand the metal a little more so its are flush if possible Chrome looks great. Nice to See you a Blackstar /VTO camp out take care of my Oval you're working on? LOL Bugs gonna be nice when its done. (58SingleCab DoveBlue)
the Radio cover //you had the heat go to the top of the plate .hanging it up .hang it level from both ends so heat stay on all sides at the same time .
I used a laser thermometer and it was the same temp. problem was the spray gun not even. Probably with a professional gun setup I could have sprayed that more even and gotten no orange peel
Shiny and totally Bitchen paint job.😎😎😎👍👍👍
Awesome 😎 Thanks
😎😎😎👍👍👍looks good.
Oven cleaner in aerosol can with scothbright & water is good for cleaning old paint, crud off!
Great vid. Can you post a link on the chrome you used on that grill?
oh yea I will if I had a better gun I could make it look exactly like new chrome. I am sure of it.
Hey mike ?? Do you do any steering wheel repair and painting I have a 59 steering wheel and it has a few cracks. ?? Kp up the great progress !!
I repaired the damage to my Bakelite steering wheel with epoxy and body filler and then painted it with an epoxy enamel. It looks like new months later, and cost next to nothing to do.
Yea I have done all my wheels that way. it looks great and last a long time.....eventually some of the hairlines come back. but not too bad.
Mike, just take it into the kitchen and tell your wife you need to bake something!
use a old gas oven on propane or old grill //for heat
propane grill sounds like a good idea. I just dont have any space for anything to put it inside the shop that is the reason I wont buy an oven.
What about painting side of the body A- pillar B- PILLAR C-pillar ,,,,?
yea if you blasted anything you could powder coat it. you can use a larger torch.....the roofing ones. just dont get it too hot or it will warp use a temp laser and get it around just under 300 degrees.
Maybe a toast oven ( thrift store)
yea I have one but this is easier
That car’s paint was never that nice even back when it left the assembly line in 1954 😉. I’ve seen a gentleman on another channel redo the steering wheels by cutting through the cracks and filling them with two part epoxy.
Yea i use j and b or panel adhesive. works great.
