Great to see you Greg!! Welcome back to GOTD. Not only are you an amazing player, but no one can make the faces while playing like you do! You make thumpin Thursday kick.
Its one of the best sounding basses ive heard lately.. I think Gene only got seen playing it once in Dubai, but after hearing several demos it has a huge beefy sound that cannot be ignored. Great Bass!
Lovely melodic and harmonic playing- loved those rich double stops and arpeggios! Also refreshing to hear the bass played clean as opposed to most T-Bird demos-
I bought one, "early serial number" 😉 BadAss!! G2 Thunderbird is Far Superior to my 93' TBird...Worth every penny! The set neck also is better, minimal to No Neck Dive!! Depends on your strap. Gibson nailed it! 🤟😎
Nice. Dug the mention of Glenn Tipton and Phil Lynott. Ha, Phil used to reflect a spot light on an attractive lady in the audience with his mirror guard (i know, y'all knew that already :)). Love the black hardware but no mention of the pickups,,,,proprietary HB, i'm guessing. Anyways, i dig it !
Respect to Greg - the man had an excuse he was rockin' . If he is into soundgarden he must rock hard, cool T Shirt. Bass looks a bit like a cross between modern and metal styling the black with the mirror pickguard is a nice contrast. Bass had an upfront confident sound and was very clear articulating itself, even when Greg played some more complex phrases. A bit like a ducati motorcycle - the more you push it the more it goes. A good bass for metal where the instrument needs to stand out in the mix. Completely coincidentally my new album is called - 'Thunder words are go...' Please check out if you are interested + much more (on my channel). Slap bass was nice - bass sounded responsive. I could see many different musical settings it would fit into. Between Roberto and Greg we are spoilt with bass talent. Enjoy your holiday lemmo. Regards to Norm. the Cat...
Gene far surpassed players like Paco in creativity and sheer talent but he never got the credit he deserved from critics of the time. Yes, I am high, thanks for asking
"Almost said 1922..." I'm pretty sure KISS wouldn't have been allowed to exist back then. I read they stirred up a ruckus when they appeared in the 1970s. I'm not a big KISS fan but I am always a fan of Greg Coates doing thumping Thursdays!
Should have been named the Pete Way Thunderbird G2, Simmons didn't even play Thunderbirds and was already playing custom made bass guitars by the time Destroyer was released, I saw UFO 6 or 7 times when they were in their prime, Pete played Thunderbirds every show and did more for the popularity of the instrument than anybody else, this one is just a money grab by Gibson and Simmons
I'VE LOOKED CLOSELY AT THE G2 BASS I STILL CAN'T DECIDE ON THIS BASS HELP I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T STOP BUYING COOL SHIT THAT I DON'T NEED CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 USA
woohoo Greg Coates is in the house!! 🎸🇨🇦
Love it when Greg does the bass
The force is strong with this one!
Wow Greg kickin ass and the sustain like u said OMG👌😎
Great to see you Greg!! Welcome back to GOTD. Not only are you an amazing player, but no one can make the faces while playing like you do! You make thumpin Thursday kick.
great demo Greg

So glad to have @gcoates in the store again, he is truly the master of the bottom end!!! Thumpin Thursday is just better with him!!!
Greg kicks ass on bass sweet playing
Great demo Greg Coates of a killer sounding T-Bird!
Cool bass and Gene Simmons is no slouch! Love Kiss!
If The Ox were alive he’d absolutely dig this bass!
The Ox mostly loved Fenderbirds
Since it’s on the pickguard, it’s probably no longer a rumor that Gibson & Gene will be putting out a Flying V bass at some point too.
That neck pick up is impressive. Dope bass and great demo! ✌🏼
That's one of the best sounding Thunderbirds I've ever heard.
Awesome.
Cold Gin Time Again! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Tipton also had a Strat with a mirrored pickguard.
More importantly so did the great Phil Lynott!!
@@sivadcal Well, a Fender P-Bass, not a Strat, but yes.
Nice Bass..Insane Sustain!
Great axe, great tones! Greg Coates always rocks!
brillant folks

Boom 💥
I wish I had the coin for that beauty.
Nice pair with the Ampeg ...
I believe that’s what Gene has always used? SVT’s?

Is the Thunderbird considered the original bucker bass?
It should be,true humbuckers.
That guy looks a little like Mark King, and I thought he was. Nice review of the G2.
great playing got that billy idol snarl lol

That’s a trick stolen from Fred Carter, an old school Telecaster player; he’d do that trick but with the Tele’s chrome control plate…😂
Gene Simmons would like to play like Greg Coates!!

Homer Simpson played Kiss. Beautiful bass. Get well Norm!
No entwisyle?
Normally I would-but it’s a “Gene” bass 🤷🏼
😱😱😱🤘🤘🤘
I'd prefer active Delano pups with the darkglass pre. Nice bass though. Still like his old Ripper basses.
Gene far surpassed players like Paco in creativity and sheer talent but he never got the credit he deserved from critics of the time.

Well played Sir, well played.

Kiss in 1922, “What ho, what is that demonry?”
gotta use a pick , but great job
Those triplets though…
That clean neck pickup is sweeeeeeet!
I'll pass it's a Gibson hope Norm is doing well
I'm utterly bothered that Gene Simmons couldn't bring back the Grabber and Ripper.
Wait...what. It's a short scale? Ohh ffs Gibson why...why?
You know-I need to find out,but it SEEMED like it’s short scale though TBirds are typically 34”,this one felt a bit slinkier
That was the worst Detroit rock
