This song hit me right in the feels when it started playing. I was back to my teen years when I first played FFIV again. I'll never forget this theme as long as I live. It's like the Red Wings and even Cecil himself are lending you their strength.
Tbh this whole fight was one of my finest moments playing Scholar. We had so many moments where we almost wiped in the first phase, at one point where for 15 seconds I had boss enmity and only managed to say a alive by getting 4 self critlos in a row until the LB3 came up. Then getting to phase 2 and hearing THIS song, one etched into my mind so deep with childhood memories of watching my sister playing FF4 on SNES, getting to the part where Cecil becomes a Paladin and defeats his Dark Knight self by learning how to protect others. Moments like this remind me what it is I love about playing healer most. The power to kill a god is one thing, but the power to deny a god's attempt to kill you and your friends is just indescribable euphoria.
My run of this on the patch day was an unforgettable experience. This kicking in, the boss going down to 10% left and all my team except me and the other tank + A Summoner dropped down dead. A summoner stayed up and got a healer rezzed, party was halfway back to fully alive with a LB3 well on the way and then they all died a second time, leaving me and the other tank to fight alone. We practically shared the look of "We got this" and ended up beating Zeromus by ourselves. This song blaring out only made it feel more epic, intense and overall special. What a trial!
@@Spider-Geek916 I would say it's even more epic when it's a non-tank that does the last stand. You kinda expect the tank to keep standing to the end, but when it's another class holding on for dear life and actually defeating the enemy it's cathartic!
i love how this song feels like a true last stand, like the desperation of both the wol and zeromus while the barrier between worlds is but a sliver away from shattering
The sheer amount of panic you feel during this phase is so good. As if the game is screaming at you that you are running out of time before Zeromus breaks the wall between realities.
FF4 was the first final fantasy I played. I came back to 14 because of this expansion and the nostalgia still wasn't enough to keep my interested in yoship's asstasstic digital theme park of an mmo.

@TheIvoryDingo and I love that, but where was the music from ffx in the fight with anima? We have so many references to the early final fantasy compared to the more modern ones. Don't get me wrong the Anima fight was cool, but that was it, no other reference to 10 in that fight.
I love how they reworked him in XIV, so much. That he was ever just a hero who wanted the best for his people, no matter the cost. That we saw past the darkness and redeemed his courageous soul. The writing for post-EW was so good, I'm still wondering how DT flubbed up so hard.

FF4 was my gateway drug to JRPGs. This song, the literal first one in the series I'd ever heard and remembered, coming out of nowhere really ended up getting to me. I was hoping/expecting for the most kickass rendition of Zeromus's boss music I'd ever heard, which the first part of this delivered on, but... I dunno. Part of me felt like this meant it had all come full circle after almost 30 years, and there's comfort in that feeling. I guess it's like my personal video game equivalent of that one scene in Ratatouille when Anton eats the thingy.
First time doing this with my rp friends, when this song kick in we all just went overdrive and got swept by the hype lol "PUSH IT BAAAAAACK!!!" "WE RED WING NOW BOYS!!!" And whatever full cap shout on the chat while all this happening, i dont usually fond much of rp but in situation like this, it really get you the hype hahaha
When I heard this in the trailer I just had a moment where I had to lean back in my chair and just take it in. The red wings is easily one of my favorite songs in the series and this rendition had me feeling like I could do anything.
I would have played FFIV (which we knew as FFII) back in '92, since I don't think I got it at release, but probably some months later. I was the perfect age for that game: 13. The characters and story were more involved than the original one on the NES, so it excited me how advanced it all seemed to my young teenaged mind. All of the IV love that XIV has received has been a treat for this old, veteran gamer.
Yeah it was super intense. All the craziness going on and the music pumping. Also being able to see the Source. The creative designer or stage folks (whatever you call em) outdid themselves

I'm so pissed that I got DC'd at 50% because of a shitty ONE second power outage... When my router came back on I was dead with a clear because one of my party members stayed behind so I could be counted for the clear; much appreciated wherever you are!
What do you mean? You would be counted even if everyone left, the only scenario where you wouldn’t get the clear would be if they wiped then kicked you, but this is normal mode content so odds are that probably wouldn’t have happened
The moment this song started I screamed with joy. I was transported back to the day I got 4 for my DS and saw the opening hearing the theme. I sang along to it the whole time of phase 2 even with the panic of AOE dodging cause it's just that good!

Actually, Cecil didn't kill them. His soldiers defeated them, also they didn't die. If you visit the dungeons in Baron right at the beggining, you will see the very same two black mages and one white mage Cecil's soldiers defeated.

Speculation time: Considering its basically confirmed Golbez was the Thirteenth Shard of Azem, I firmly believe Durante is the Thirteenth Shard of Zenos. The physical resemblance is uncanny, as is the obsession/dedication to the WoL (either the Source's or the Thirteenth's).

I'm really loving the idea of the final phase being dedicated to the last 10-20% of health. Desperation phases are always the best, if Hades and Endsinger have taught us one thing. If only Thordan did it well too...
I played the Pixel Remaster of 4 around the time I finished 6.2 to get more familiarized with the call backs, and it honestly might have been the best idea I'd have because I enjoyed the patches greatly. And this trial was just incredible to tank! I felt like a total protagonist doing so, Passage of Arms never felt so great to pull off, and when the Red Wings theme played I was just PUMPED.
In FF4 It's the first track you hear at the start the game; as Cecil feels guilt after stealing the Crystal of Mysidia unsure if he did the right thing. Meanwhile in FF14: you hear the track as Zeromus weakens the barrier between shards further, but you don't give up, you decide to push through, you are so close to victory, for the world and the friends you hold dear.

The desire to return home and reunite with family, twisted by a man who wanted to deliver his people from a deathless eternity in the dark. I understand what Golbez was trying to do but he definitely pulled what we call a "Dick Move" here.
I am so glad there is a new best version of this theme. My heart ACHED as Zeromus got down below 25% health. I am ALSO absolutely glad that the refrain didn't get spoiled by the trailer.
Goddamn its been so long that sadly i forgot what the name was when this part came in the fight on my first time, besides remembering it came from FF4 (and def pogging tf out mashing away as Mnk)... Then looking it up confirmed its the mf'ing RED WINGS theme. Have not heard it since playing FF4 Advance on the GBA in the 2000s... Muh childhood Couple that with the tense atmosphere with the barrier betweek worlds breaking, immersion, and race to the end as everyone else here mentioned, I must say this is among the best (Normal) Trials in an expansion in presentation, like Nidhogg, Tsukuyomi, Hades, SoS, Zodiark, Hydaelyn, Endsinger
Even if you haven't it's still a theme that gives of a big sense of urgency that you need to do what you need right now before Zeromus' succesfully makes it to the Source as it was so very close to doing as seen by the fight's background.
FFIV is my favorite but I honestly think this song should’ve been used in the cutscene afterwards. It killed the vibe of the fight and it should’ve stayed with The Final Battle (FFIV)
First phase remix is great, if you want a more faithful arrange go play the Pixel Remaster instead, its good FFXIV decided to do something different so now we have even more different arranges of Zeromus' theme instead of two very similar sounding ones if they went orchestral (and I'm saying this as someone that LOVES the orchestral stuff + loves Uematsu's old stuff). It also made this phase stand out more.

Then first off, the song is mid at best; the bass is pretty repetitive, lazy, and keeps drowning the actual song. Second, no, it's COMPLETELY fair to say it's a weird choice because it both doesn't fit what's happening on-screen and also doesn't fit with the rest of the songs they've remade during the entire post-game, including Red Wings for phase 2.
Remixed this with a fair bit of intensity...works better than I thought it should, no complaint here! So much better than the Phase 1 nonsense turning an epic classic into EDM poop.

I usually am so focused on the fight that I don't hear the music on my first playthrough, but as soon as this eargasm started I let out an audible shout of "YES!!!!!" FFIV is one of my favorite mainline games in the series and to hear Soken's master handling of the themes from that game has been a treat this entire expansion.
I do love how in FFIV, Zeromus was born of the hate in one person's heart, but in FFXIV, Zeromus was born of the love in one person's heart

This game really nails the feel of an epic power fantasy, but rarely better than when you're finishing off a boss alone as a tank.

Get a UPS (uninterrupted power supply), it can last either system about dozens of second to minutes depend of course on how big you UPS and system is.

Real talk though if people wanna skip like the first 3 and like maybe 6-8 I wouldn't really blame them if they haven't already played them. The two dislikes were by one white mage and one black mage Cecil brutally slaughtered in Mysidia at the beginning of Final Fantasy IV.
Actually, Cecil didn't kill them. His soldiers defeated them, also they didn't die. If you visit the dungeons in Baron right at the beggining, you will see the very same two black mages and one white mage Cecil's soldiers defeated.

Considering its basically confirmed Golbez was the Thirteenth Shard of Azem, I firmly believe Durante is the Thirteenth Shard of Zenos. The physical resemblance is uncanny, as is the obsession/dedication to the WoL (either the Source's or the Thirteenth's).

I'm really loving the idea of the final phase being dedicated to the last 10-20% of health. Desperation phases are always the best, if Hades and Endsinger have taught us one thing. If only Thordan did it well too...
I played the Pixel Remaster of 4 around the time I finished 6.2 to get more familiarized with the call backs, and it honestly might have been the best idea I'd have because I enjoyed the patches greatly. And this trial was just incredible to tank! I felt like a total protagonist doing so, Passage of Arms never felt so great to pull off, and when the Red Wings theme played I was just PUMPED.
In FF4 It's the first track you hear at the start the game; as Cecil feels guilt after stealing the Crystal of Mysidia unsure if he did the right thing.
Meanwhile in FF14: you hear the track as Zeromus weakens the barrier between shards further, but you don't give up, you decide to push through, you are so close to victory, for the world and the friends you hold dear.

Then looking it up confirmed its the mf'ing RED WINGS theme. Have not heard it since playing FF4 Advance on the GBA in the 2000s... Muh childhood
Couple that with the tense atmosphere with the barrier betweek worlds breaking, immersion, and race to the end as everyone else here mentioned, I must say this is among the best (Normal) Trials in an expansion in presentation, like Nidhogg, Tsukuyomi, Hades, SoS, Zodiark, Hydaelyn, Endsinger
im glad they found a way to incorporate the red wings theme into ffxiv, i wish it had been the lunar subteranne music, but happy either way
Uno Reverse says this theme was crafted so players on EXTREME, SAVAGE and UNREAL would feel inspired to keep going 😂

Even if you haven't it's still a theme that gives of a big sense of urgency that you need to do what you need right now before Zeromus' succesfully makes it to the Source as it was so very close to doing as seen by the fight's background.

It’s incredible how the game changed from 1 to 2)). Great track, but certainly doesn’t fit the encounter, IMO.
FFIV is my favorite but I honestly think this song should’ve been used in the cutscene afterwards. It killed the vibe of the fight and it should’ve stayed with The Final Battle (FFIV)

The Red Wings is meant to evoke the Imperial March given all the homages to Star Wars in FFIV.
They just had to do this with the Zeromus theme, but they had to meme it with the techno stuff, I don't get it.
First phase remix is great, if you want a more faithful arrange go play the Pixel Remaster instead, its good FFXIV decided to do something different so now we have even more different arranges of Zeromus' theme instead of two very similar sounding ones if they went orchestral (and I'm saying this as someone that LOVES the orchestral stuff + loves Uematsu's old stuff). It also made this phase stand out more.

Then first off, the song is mid at best; the bass is pretty repetitive, lazy, and keeps drowning the actual song. Second, no, it's COMPLETELY fair to say it's a weird choice because it both doesn't fit what's happening on-screen and also doesn't fit with the rest of the songs they've remade during the entire post-game, including Red Wings for phase 2.
This was so random and felt out of place in this fight. Never made sense to include that here.
Remixed this with a fair bit of intensity...works better than I thought it should, no complaint here! So much better than the Phase 1 nonsense turning an epic classic into EDM poop.

I usually am so focused on the fight that I don't hear the music on my first playthrough, but as soon as this eargasm started I let out an audible shout of "YES!!!!!"
FFIV is one of my favorite mainline games in the series and to hear Soken's master handling of the themes from that game has been a treat this entire expansion.
