      To make a long story short, the Pacers were bitter because the Pistons beat them en route to winning the NBA title, Ron Artest was already a literal sociopath, and The Palace at Auburn Hills was the Pistons' home arena-hence, "Malice at the Palace."
      ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary is the best:

    The 04 Pistons are one of my fav championships in NBA history. They didn't have a single max-salary player, no all-NBA selections, only 1 all-star selection (Ben Wallace). The NBA recently made a top 75 players in history list for their 75th anniversary and not a single player from that team made the list. Yet they beat the juggernaut Shaq/Kobe Lakers 4-1. It wasn't the prettiest or most entertaining basketball, but the Pistons were incredible defensively and were in perfect sync. It was just a group of solid veterans beating one of the best superstar duos ever.

    • @philmccracken179
      @philmccracken179 ปีที่แล้ว

      They only won because 2004 was when the year they got rid of “illegal defense”. Lakers couldn’t handle the newly allowed zone defense

      @@alperensengun6832 it’s just the truth. You build a great team based on the rules, then the rules completely change but you still have the constructed teams from the rules before. It was inevitable that a random, weird team would win that year. I’m not a lakers fan btw

    • @wpl8275
      @wpl8275 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philmccracken179 Lakers deserved to get beat. They were overhyped and they couldn't handle any stress at all. Shaq was at his most miserable and Kobe and he didn't even get along. I remember watching this game when it happened. Two crazy things.
    Ron Artest punched the wrong person to start. Afterward, in the locker room, he asked Stephen Jackson if he thought they'd get in trouble.... You're lucky to have a job. As a Pacers fan, Ron Artest is something else. He once pulled down Paul Pierce's shorts, in a game, to prevent him from getting the ball. Not only did it not work, he later sung him an apology on tv.

      @@DNReacts You're right of course. That does seem like a rather abrupt end to a in-depth look at it. To provide all that context and then basically treat the actual fight and aftermath as an afterthought. The context is important... but the fight and the aftermath are the most important parts here. Careers would never be the same after this. It possibly detoured a rising Jermaine O'Neal's career that seemed destined for superstardom, and instead became relegated to a footnote.

    The cup was the final straw, after the cup hit Artest, he ran in to the stands and started indiscriminately fighting the fans (the one he went after had nothing to do with it.)later turned into the entire Pacers team fighting the fans. The game was called fir fear of the entire thing turning into a full blown riot. Not only did this lead to the NBA wanting to clean up their image ( and in all honesty,around this time they didn't really have many good role models outside of Kidd, Nash, Kobe and Shaq), this also indirectly lead to the "one and done" draft rule, where a player had to have at least one year of College or European pro Basketball to be eligible for the draft, they wouldn't draft kids out of high school any more after LeBron James.

    Should be mentioned that Artest has an Anxiety problem. He eventually went into therapy, hence why he changed his name over to Metta World Peace.

    Basically, being from England, all you need to know is that Detroit is about the most gangster, poverty stricken, rough-ass city in the country. I’m sure there’s a British equivalent.

    And you can find the raw live footage fairly easily too, but it won't break it down fully. The raw live footage is definitely worth a watch too.

    Don’t let this discourage reacting to their content. On that note I think it would be interesting to see you guys react to one of their videos that relates to a subject you are familiar with….soccer, fish and chips, something like that

    If you guys want some deeper analysis about the actual game of basketball you should watch some of the thinking basketball series, they do really good videos their greatest peaks video in particular does a great job of showing you why the greatest of players of all time were so great, they are a little longer but if you want to really know about guys like Larry bird Magic Johnson Kobe etc that’s a great way to do it while also learning about the game
