Grand Design is having serious problems with their Lippert frames. They designed them, Lippert built them, & the weight on the frames are causing flexing and the welds are breaking, the pin box on the 5th wheels are moving and causing all kinds of damage.
Im still driving my 37' 1989 Class A Fleetwood. Only because it was a quality build back then, for an RV. And I've remodeled the enterior a few times to suit my taste. Repowered it to diesel 20 years ago so it gets 14 mpg! These new RV's are a junk..... only a fool with more money than he knows what to do with can afford them. But an RV is a money pit, so buyers either need deep $ pockets or be real handy at repairs. My big Class A has been my hobby so I have maintained it from the day I bought it. And thats why I still own it.
JB, you said two years ago that RVs and things like this would be on sale. You were right! I remember one of your videos when you were walking around car lots, RV dealerships, and other vacant properties for a while. You're right about many things and you get fired up about the right things.
@@DangerZone-w6yin part you are so far a field. But let's look at the facts. JB has been narrowly discussing these areas of the economy and has been consistent. What have YOU been doing?
Most times it's not the banks , the banks approve you at about 5% then the dealership turns around and says the bank is charging you 12% It's all dealer mark up fees to make way more money on each unit sold !
An RV dealer once told me the manufacturer marks up the price 30% to the dealership and the dealership marks it up another 30% or so. So a $100,000 dollar rv costs about $30,000 to build
Your math does not make sense. For example if the RV costs 60,000 to build they mark it up 30 % that would be $78,000 and the rv dealer marks it up 30 % that would then be about $ 101,000. So your original 30 k cost to build estimate was way too low.
Never trust a dealer bro 😬. If your buddy says his dealership markup is only 30% then the manufacturers cost is more like $50,000 to build and the builder marks it up 53.85%. that would bring it to a total of $100,002. I am just speculating and maybe it does only cost $30k to build, but if that is the case then someone is making some serious profit and a bigger percentage then they will admit on a $100k RV.
@@glutiusmaximus4006 yes I know about dealers. I was just giving an example to make a point of how much markup there is. He didn't use those numbers, but he said everything is at least doubled up to the buyer along the way.

ya its crazy.... the big corps started to greed and rip people off. Then everyone decided to start ripping people off. All the way down to the very food we need to buy we are being grinded into dust. Extorted by any good or services you need to buy.
They’re losing money each and everyday if those things aren’t sold. Taking everything into consideration the 2013 used model should sell for under $60k max.
I own a campground. We are still sold-out for snowbird season, with several return guests buying brand new RVs since last winter. A lot of people that travel for work, have gone to RVs rather than hotels. The max size coach is 45', the ones shown here are not that big. We full-time RV'd for 5 years before buying a campground. When buying, you should expect to get 40% off the asking price. Pretty standard.
I'm not an expert with RVs, but if you spent $200,000 on that one rig, and it's 10 years old, many RV parks won't allow RVs older than 10 years old!!! Lol
Buying $200k-$500k motor homes for the homeless will somehow solve the homeless problem? Sure, buy homeless people RVs worth more than many people's houses and then buy land for them to put them on, pay for insurance and repairs, nevermind the fact most people can't afford these, but the homeless somehow deserve them. Ridiculous.
Thank you for the video. I can't believe anyone would pay so much money for an used 10 year old motorhome. No wonder the salesmen are watching football games...no customers!

As a retired park ranger 30+ yrs. We called them plastic pigs. These things just constantly eat money. Then most of the people who had them, b%÷ch about paying camping fees to camp. 😂😂😂
There was a time when camping was free, paid for by logging. Now the USDA hires horrible camp hosts that cost 100k a year to enforce crazy rules like camp wardens at Stalag 13. No thanks to them, dry camp self-contained and stay away from them.
And the RV’s were brand new! The RV industry is notorious for very low quality workmanship. They often glue and staple these things together super fast and they leave the factory with all kinds of ticking time bombs aboard them which will soon break once they’re bought and used.
That is what happens when preachers tell people that you can do anything you want including being a lousy employee because god is all that matters and he will forgive you of anything
Economy has nothing to do with it. RV industry did it to themselves. Doubling and tripling the prices of the RVs, quality non existent, horrible customer service (you buy $100k+ RV new, and have to return for repairs after first ride, and 6months awaiting service) and campgrounds overcharging have driven potential customers running for the hills. Also, RV dealers making you sign off every purchase basically relieving dealer from any liability. Industry did it to themselves, it’s like they genuinely hated RV customers.
I think it really depends on what RV you buy. We have a 1989 31' Airstream ($33k new) that has been an exceptional unit. We have never missed a day of camping due to breakdown and have been around the US many times. However, we have upgraded things over the years, the fridge (2009), torsion axles/brakes(2015), A/C(2019), 4-stage inverter (2021). We have always stored the unit inside/ under cover and as a classic design, it never seems to look "old". Airstream units surely have issues, but they age well and at least the older ones are fairly user friendly to maintain. The New Airstreams are overly technical and priced, but they still look good. Thanks JB for a great video and your support of veterans!!
That’s the best way to do it. Airstreams are classics. And you could probably sell it for more than you paid. You don’t have to buy a crap 200k motorhome to have fun with your family.
So that's what happened to Tom Cruise (black shirt) and Bryan Cranston (brown hat). Selling those RVs is like mission impossible while the industry is breaking bad. See what I did there?
Who wants to haul something around the size of a house. They're made cheap to be light as possible, yet replacing parts are $$$. If you can afford a big toy, they figure you can afford high maintenance.
If sales have dropped, & demand has dropped, why haven't the prices dropped? I say screw all the dealers and let em go bust! they have every excuse to raise prices when demand is high, but now that demand is low, they keep prices the same? They can just eat em then. I have no sympathy for them at all!
Same for pickup trucks that sit on lots for months with ADM on the sticker. If the dealer is getting scared, maybe they take the sticker off. Still MSRP. What we heard about dealer floor planning and it's costing them money isn't the truth anymore. There's still a truth, but the old truth is gone.
Yes, its this is very insightful and a time saver. I can just watch his video and get a snapshot of prices without wasting my time driving to a dealer and actually kicking tires just to be sticker shocked out of the dealership.
oh man you would not believe... some of these things are coming undone on the lot. I was inside one the other day where the panels where(like you said held by staples) totally hanging off the wall. They wanted 45,000 for it. I should of bought some crack and found the owner of the RV place. Im pretty sure he loves to smoke that crack trying to rip me off.
Yes glue! Looked at a small pull behind for use as working on my place and it reeked of glue. Serious off gassing. I just walked right back out and told sales guy he better leave it open before someone drops inside it. Getting worse, not better. I did NOT buy one anywhere.
I really don't mean to be rude, but you can buy a semi truck for 30% of what you stated. You can buy a good, dependable HDT for way less than a new pickup truck. Also I'd buy a 53' used reefer trailer and convert it INto a MOBILE ABODE.
ya no shit... you can build something like this for 20k work on it yourself and actually make it quality. if you put another 20k into it it will be luxuary. These people will take something that costs 15k to build and want 150,000 for the sale price. They have no shame and no soul.
There's been less than a mile from my house 2 rvs dumped off and 1 across the road dumped off and abandoned. And seeing the rvs where you are at and nobody is buying. Hmmm.....you're right it's going to get worse...
RV's and campers are selling just fine as long as they're used ones. My dad sold his RV that he himself bought used. He listed it on marketplace and people contacted him from all over the place wanting to buy it.
Nah even used sales are slow. but yeah this is just wealthy people dumping off their useless crap and trying to put working-class people on the hook for their stupid buys from 10 years ago now that they can't afford them. Don't fall for it.
Business owners got the most stimulus. No one getting 2k got this. Business owners reported these things as a business loss and probably got reimbursed. I want one of these 😢
The sticker shock on your guys face after coming out of that decade old 180,000 rv was priceless! I was just as shocked. I guess their goal is not to sell anything.
The thing is, even if you can't afford one of these, a sales and finance person will twist everything to get you to sign a loan for one, so these guys are right, even if you could barely eek into buying one, it would be a horrible decision. Whoever is selling these things is just trying to offload the cost onto some unsuspecting working-class person to eat the payment.
Have to remember that motor homes have higher labor rates when it comes to repairs because there a lot harder to work on. Not many things are not accessible.
Some of this is because of the hidden expenses. Not to mention the fact that some of these companies give a lot of people the runaround about warranties because of poor workmanship! Better off buying an old bus or box van and making your own getaway vehicle.
I remember the RV/Boat Apocalypse of '77-78. Gas went from..40 cents a gallon to $1.50. I knew a guy who had sold camper trailers since the '40s who closed up shop.
@@Juergen732 You are not alone. I am always amazed how the price of gas goes down and immediately the vehicles get big. Then the price of fuel goes back up and vehicle size shrinks again. It's as if most people have no memory and respond only to the Right Now.

Boston was very crowded today, and it's a holiday, what a joke! People are spending so much money, and they are clueless, it's not a spending addiction, it's really a disease.
Same with airbnb. Our friends run an airbnb, rent out a room. Doing it for years. They have been averaging 1000-1300 per month. About 4-5 months ago this dropped to 100-200 per month and its stayed there.
of course people had to go back to work, many companies stopped allowing so many people to work remotely. can't RV and airbnb all over while working if you are required to be at the office
RV's are interesting because it signals the peak before the economic fall. They're the "we need something to spend our money on" purchase versus saving that money. I wonder if we'll start seeing RV repo's.
The RV movement was strong as an alternative housing option more so than a disposable income for vacations option. The problem is by the time you do the math for the RV payments + campground fees most aren't coming out any further ahead than renting even though they own a dwelling, maintenance costs can be high and not as many places as people think to park them freely or cheaply ground them to a power source. Plus the whole plumbing thing gets old: crappy water pressure, lots of flushing needed (ahem Christmas Vacation reference). If you are young, can work remotely and have a handy partner it's a solid option, problem is that's not the majority of the population.
As a veteran you can say god bless those that gave their lives for your freedom. Its not a shame these men and women who died for our freedom are heroes
This problem has nothing to do with stimulus, or the economy. These are ridiculously priced junk that were overproduced . Luxury garbage . I feel bad for the people that build them , but the manufacturer should have seen this coming . Entirely self inflicted . Greed is the operative word .
JB, I am puzzled. Only wealthy people would be approved for a loan on these RVs. Are wealthy people having financial problems, also? I never would have thought that to be so.
Upper middle class people. Super wealthy people would buy a Nice RV, not a camper trailer. Maybe they are having a time deciding which Airbnb property to sell off.
I'm assuming it's the same trickry/fraud as car loans. Fudging numbers and income, using covid money as income on loan apps. People were getting into expensive vehicles they had no business purchasing.
Almost like buying a boat, you have to gas it up, buy provisions for the day , ( fishing, lunch, snacks, drinks, ) then have the time to spend 10 hours on it to relax
Thanks for all you do. Hope you are feeling better. You just reinforced my never really wanting an RV! I don't understand the logic of buying a luxury RV. You could just stay at 4 star hotels and come out cheaper than the fuel, maintenance and storage of one of these monstrosities.

Just wait six months to a year, and you will see prices plunge. When you are under economic stress, the first thing that goes is the RV.
That’s what they said last year about cars, houses and RVs. I’m still waiting.
And fine dining.

As soon as you buy and drive anything off a dealer lot, you can kiss at least 20% of your purchase price goodbye.

sorry that saying is for a car... an rv you lose 100% of your purchase price for an RV

A lot of the problem with rv sales right now is the banks wanting 8-18%apr
Most times it's not the banks , the banks approve you at about 5% then the dealership turns around and says the bank is charging you 12% It's all dealer mark up fees to make way more money on each unit sold !
An RV dealer once told me the manufacturer marks up the price 30% to the dealership and the dealership marks it up another 30% or so.
So a $100,000 dollar rv costs about $30,000 to build
And they are just a piece of worthless junk.

High prices and high interest rates for low quality is what's killing the industry.
The RV industry have priced themselves into bankruptcy. Practicality couldn't be avoided.
Pretty standard.
it sounds like it's as scammy an industry as jewely retailers who also have huge markups.
RV sales people are the worst.
I'm not an expert with RVs, but if you spent $200,000 on that one rig, and it's 10 years old, many RV parks won't allow RVs older than 10 years old!!! Lol
RV parks don't allow old clunkers. Older, high-end rigs - no problem.
The amount of money government spends on other countries this would be a great way to solve the homeless and the needy

Nobody got a stimulus check for two thousand dollars and bought an RV like that..
As a retired park ranger 30+ yrs. We called them plastic pigs. These things just constantly eat money. Then most of the people who had them, b%÷ch about paying camping fees to camp. 😂😂😂
Absolutely..
There was a time when camping was free, paid for by logging. Now the USDA hires horrible camp hosts that cost 100k a year to enforce crazy rules like camp wardens at Stalag 13. No thanks to them, dry camp self-contained and stay away from them.
These rvs are junk these days.. You'll be fixing it more hours than using it
And it takes them days or weeks to get it done.
Shut up
That’s the best way to do it. Airstreams are classics. And you could probably sell it for more than you paid.
You don’t have to buy a crap 200k motorhome to have fun with your family.
Love your onsite tours that show real cost. RV's are made with cheap material. I bought brand new one. Problems from beginning. Glad I sold it.
Great points
Same for pickup trucks that sit on lots for months with ADM on the sticker. If the dealer is getting scared, maybe they take the sticker off. Still MSRP. What we heard about dealer floor planning and it's costing them money isn't the truth anymore. There's still a truth, but the old truth is gone.
they keep them high so they can eat more loss.

I hear 90 percent of these built after 2018 are glue and staples on a rolling chassis coming unguled and unstapled as they roll down the road.
oh man you would not believe... some of these things are coming undone on the lot.
Wow!!! Thank Goddess for staycation.
Not too mention gov auctions regularly sell running Blue Bird school buses for pennies on the dollar.
Where can I send you my money?? PLEASE LET ME SEND YOU MONEY!!!!
Nah even used sales are slow. but yeah this is just wealthy people dumping off their useless crap and trying to put working-class people on the hook for their stupid buys from 10 years ago now that they can't afford them. Don't fall for it.
All click bait
I think selling cheaper trailers privately, a cash only situation is what people are looking for.
I'm doing the same thing, for full time and will be parked at my son's house.
Would never go thru a dealer, cost is about 10 times more.
Thanks, JB. I considered it a privilege to serve many great memories. God bless them all.

Does JB have a phone number?
The thing is, even if you can't afford one of these, a sales and finance person will twist everything to get you to sign a loan for one, so these guys are right, even if you could barely eek into buying one, it would be a horrible decision. Whoever is selling these things is just trying to offload the cost onto some unsuspecting working-class person to eat the payment.
Yep...I assume these dealers are mental patients just released from the asylum. 😅😅
This seems like poor business sense.
Have to remember that motor homes have higher labor rates when it comes to repairs because there a lot harder to work on. Not many things are not accessible.
big risk Mechanics are hard to find so are vehicle parts
Some of this is because of the hidden expenses. Not to mention the fact that some of these companies give a lot of people the runaround about warranties because of poor workmanship! Better off buying an old bus or box van and making your own getaway vehicle.
I remember the RV/Boat Apocalypse of '77-78. Gas went from..40 cents a gallon to $1.50. I knew a guy who had sold camper trailers since the '40s who closed up shop.
