    PMAC, look into a Honda generator for those off grid times when you need to run the AC. Super quiet and gets the job done.

      re -- genset
      Build a security enclosure in the bed of the tow-vehicle, so it is always handy.
      .
      Are you picturing multiple photovoltaic panels set in the sun, and cables to the rig in the shade?
      More batteries -- more storage capacity -- is always a good idea.
      .
      Although... some folks [points to self] travel north, gain elevation, go to the coast to reduce the need to run the cooler.
      Winters on isolated Baja beaches.
      Summers up rough logger tracks to remote mountain lakes.
      .
      On skoolie and other home-built forums, we suggest builders look at the rig as a blank slate.
      Anything you can imagine... just might work.
      .
      And try really hard to not duplicate a stand-still house inside a vehicle.
      Does that sound frustrating?
      * acquire a likely candidate
      * toss in some car-camping gear
      * go have fun.
      Allow the conversion to evolve organically based on your use.

      Get a Honda. I just purchased our first Galmper...LOL. I have a 15000BTU AC unit and purchased a Honda 22001 Inverter Gen. But, it will not run that big of an AC alone, so I did some TH-cam reviews and bought a 35 MRX Inverter that is half price of Honda. Big mistake, out of the box it runs like crap. Honda purrs like a kitten. Going to buy another Honda 2200i and link them together (parallel run for total 4400watts) and will be set. Live in Nevada and its ht right now. Our is a 2009 Ducthman spot 23 ft we purchased off older couple that had to for years and its in great condition! If we like the glamping in a couple years we may purchase new one.

    Going from tent camping to trailer camping is a huge change and a huge learning curve that takes at least 4 trips to even grasps what’s going on , and you you keep learning from there. But it does give you a great more options, and the woman likes having the bathroom!!! Fo sho!! 👀

    Pat my brother just got a trailer a little while ago like I commented on the first video of you guys showing us the outside of the trailer. You got to get a Honda generator. They're small you can store it in the back of your truck or inside the camper when you're towing it and then if you're really far off grid or something you have the generator to run the AC if it is a really hot day

      During the tour, the spokes-model mentioned living outside, going in to sleep.
      .
      Nearly two decades full-time live-aboard in our ExpeditionVehicle.
      We see zero value in A/C.
      Instead, we use a Craftsman 20v fan pointed over the bed.
      On LOW, a two-amp battery lasts most of three nights... and we keep a full spare next to the fan.

    Wax the shower area with car wax then squeegee down the shower after each use. It only takes a minute or two and it'll save a lot of scrubbing later.

    2003, we converted a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.
    Three RedHeelers and two adults (plus a frequent yummy third!).
    Our interior is three paces across by seven paces long.
    "But but but how can you live in such a tiny space!"
    We do not live in our ExpeditionVehicle.
    We live out of it.

    I have a more basic hard sided pop up. I boondock 95% of the time. No toilet, outside shower. Get a generator, and have 5-10 days of emergency rations. I have had 3 day trips turn into 5,6 day back country extended trips due to Un forecasted weather issues. Snowed in early October or heavy rains and deep mud in June. Always be prepared for glamping to go south. BTW, I’ve been stuck inside for days due to extreme high winds in the high desert and during torrential rains.

  • @ciscog33k

    You’ve got me thinking about one of these. My biggest concern about shower area over time is mold. With the fabric up top getting splashed by water, soap, etc combined with warm conditions, it seems like it would only be a matter of time, and unlike a shower curtain, you can’t just throw it out and replace. Strongly suggest being careful not to splash too much and stick to cooler water that doesn’t steam as much to minimize moisture issues… there’s a possibility i’ overthinking it because I just built a small new bathroom and was surprised how quickly mold formed on silicone in some places.

    Unless Opus puts some sort of special mattress in their rigs, you may want to look at replacing it sooner than later. Otherwise you will wake up after the first overnight of a five day trip with a killer back ache and no quick fix for your mattress issue, as nobody stocks RV mattresses. I can recommend Tochta. They were simple to work with, allowing custom cuts sizing and foam combinations for density and support. They even make custom sheet sets for you custom mattress. We have had one for the past 2 years and we love ours.

    Thats a great little off road camper!
    When I finally retired I went though the 'what RV' dilemma myself.
    Before this kinda RV's were being made.
    Picked a 35 ft on a F450 chassis had a company in Pennsylvania convert it to 4wd,ARB winch bumper,warn winch upgraded the tires to low pro (22.5) semi truck tires.
    I pull a 28 ft trailer that the frame was custom to go off road,motorcycle,ATV,weights,shooting stuff,spare parts,tools,extra supplies ect ect.
    Limits to how far I can go with it but thats mostly to do with the trail sloping to far.
    Work of advice though, there are alot of homeless shitbags out in those public spots (easy to spot look for an RV that belongs in a junk yard) and they will steal anything not locked down.
    Don't go to far from your camp if there around especially if you got Becca and the kids with you.
    Buy some chain or cable locks for anything you don't want stolen.

    • @largemarge1603
      @largemarge1603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      a)
      re -- chain or cable-locks
      Eugene, Oregon.
      During our walks across campus at the Eww, every square yard has cut locks and cables.
      This area is an all-you-can-eat buffet for bicycle thieves... they use hand-held hydraulic cutters engineered for aircraft cable.
      A few quick pumps, and pretty much any security is worthless.
      .
      b)
      Instead of nicely asking the goofballs to seek an easier target, how about stopping the goofballs.
      .
      On the Survival Board forum, one thread asks 'what are your plans if goofballs show up in your yard during SHTF?'.
      During discussions with property owners and business owners, most folks around here are seeing the goofballs going 'floppy' in the first half-hour.
      I hear a lot of frustration with the goofballs... and their government enablers.

      @thomaspavelko9412 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@largemarge1603 better to lock it then not.
      I open carry so generally they just avoid me they don't even come over begging for stuff most times.
      Best way I found is just avoid were they are,they tend to congregate were local law enforcement allows them to have trash & junk piles.
      You won't find them too far out in the woop woop,to scary and honestly you can just deal with them with a deep hole if it comes to it.
      I just avoid were they are,no sense placing yourself in a situation if you don't need too.
