This is my go to card these days. One feature that I haven't seen anyone mention except you is the virtual cards. You can generate as many as you want, and lock or delete them instantly. I find this feature extremely useful for cancelling subscriptions that try to lock you in to a few months or a year. More of a Capital One feature rather than Venture X, but it's something I haven't seen at any other card issuers I've used.

What do you mean by purchase credits? If you're referring to the reward miles you earn, then those do not expire as long as your account remains open & in good standing.
Great video, Mark! I had a few questions: 1. Can you downgrade Venture X card to a free one in case things don’t work out 2. I currently have Chase SR. Ideally I’d like to have just one credit card that does it all. Which is better and why?
1. Upgrade / downgrade opportunities with Capital One may vary from 1 person to another. There isn't a way for me to guarantee you'll have the option. Is there a good chance? Yes. 2. Only you can decide which card is best for you. I suggest you watch review / comparison videos to help you make a decision. Here's an example of one from last year: th-cam.com/video/0QyelzCgaZM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=osNOPcNRX-n4Rizc
For Priority Pass, they can't have your membership since the name wouldn't match. However, you can add them as an authorized user so they can enroll their own card in Priority Pass. For TSA PreCheck / Global Entry, they can use the credit as long as the fee is paid online. If done in person, there's a chance the transaction won't be allowed due to the name on the card not matching. For other benefits, see this article from OMAAT: onemileatatime.com/guides/capital-one-venture-x-authorized-users/#what_benefits_dont_capital_one_venture_x_authorized_users_receive
One thing you might want to mention is most rental car companies will status match. As well since the card is a Visa Infinite card you get executive elite status with National thru Visa directly.
Good point! However, videos like this are just focused on the card benefits themselves. Going into status matching / combining points / etc. with other programs would be best for a separate video.
I absolutely love this bank. Their site is amazing, I think its beat chase. Captial one does a great job with entertainment partners. I'm very torn between Cap One and AMEX. I love AMEX premium perks but their website leaves A LOT to be desired, half their portal looks like it's stuck in the 90s. Which do you prefer? Venture X or Platinum?
I like them both for different reasons. That said, the Capital One app is among my top favorites, perhaps even my #1 favorite right now. So easy to use, very well organized, and all the primary features I need just a tap away.
Great video. I'd personally love to hear more of your opinions on top of all the info you provide. Would you still recommend the Venture X over the Venture for someone who maybe only travels once per year? I'm currently using the SavorOne for food/entertainment and I'm debating between those 2 for everyday purchases.
Depends on the person & what they want / value. If you'd use enough of the benefits to more than justify the annual fee, then sure. If not...then no. I don't tell people to get cards because "Mark has a high opinion about it." I "think / feel" that the Hilton Honors Aspire card is currently the best hotel card on the planet... ...but I don't have it. In fact, I used to have 2, and I canceled both because they no longer fit my travel habits or lifestyle. Get the cards that give you want you want & help you achieve your goals. Avoid the ones that don't.
How do you use the travel portal I have tried in the app They have nothing for dates and times for where I’m going and no hotels either I use the search bar as well Nothing . But I go outside portal I can get the hotels and flights . So what good is it if they don’t do what you need I have lots of miles but can’t use it Spent 30 k of my own money for 6 first class tickets
Mark, another great, informative detailed video. Very easy to follow. Since the C1 travel portal is an integral feature of this card, what has been your experience using the portal? I currently don’t have VX.
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. I am a new card holder. I am confused about your statement saying that credits expire and can not rollover to the next month or year. Which specific credit(s) are you referring to, because I am not seeing that stated anywhere? Thank -you again.
hi, does the authorized user gets their own username and login for the Capital One travel portal? meaning for every flight or hotel reservation it is registered under the authorized user name? thanks again Mark
My only credit card is the chase freedom unlimited and I am interested in getting a travel card. Is it wise for me to get the VX or should I stick with chase credit cards?
@@suleeeeee-x5m - Since Capital One can be sensitive to having "too many" recent inquiries & accounts opened, I'd personally get the C1VX next. Then I'd go back and get the Chase cards I want, spacing out the applications by a few months.
A great benefit! The Cultivist, along with 3 other membership / subscription-based benefits, were mentioned at 16:00. I did not go into detail about what each one offers in order to keep the video from going on for too long.
There isn't 1 best card & offers come & go ✌ The game is about getting that cards that compliments your goals. Generally speaking, I suggest watching this video: th-cam.com/video/hmA3N3ZLNKo/w-d-xo.html
Yes, you can book a flight for someone else. While I cannot speak from personal experience about using the credit for someone else's flight, it _should work_ as I'm not aware of any restrictions against that. Consider asking Capital One directly to know 100%.
Something to keep in mind with Capital One and referrals: if the person you refer currently has, or has ever had (even if it is cancelled) ANY Capital One credit product, they will *NOT* honor the referral. After 2 hours of extolling the virtues of VentureX to a friend who has for 20+ years refused to get a premium card and immediate approval, Capital One will not honor the referral bonus because she has a Quicksilver sitting in her desk drawer.
What if you enroll for these benefits using a Virtual Card Number instead of the actual card number, would that cause any issues down the road? e.g. if they need to confirm your card number.
hi Mark, have you heard of any data point of anyone using the $300 travel credit towards hotel lunch or dinner buffet without being checked in to that hotel? will that trigger the $300 statement credit? thanks
I applied for this card but was denied due to “too many revolving accounts” does that mean I have too many credit cards with balances or just too many credit accounts on my credit report.
For Global Entry/TSA Pre-check can I use it on someone else? I already had it before getting VX, so could I use my card to pay for a family member's registration and get the credit?
As long as you can prepay upfront during the application process, it should work. A few years ago, I gave one of my credit cards w/ a TSA / GE credit to a family member to cover their TSA Pre enrollment fee. They had to pay during the in person interview, and the agent noted the name on the credit card did not match the name on their ID. So, it didn't work for that situation.
@@MarkReese Got it, thanks so much! Love the channel and sent this video to a friend who just got VX since it’s the most well-organized video I’ve seen on the card!
Hi Mark and LOVE your content. Question on Visa Infinite Hotel. Will I still be able to get the $300 statement credit if I were to book a Visa Hotel? Keep up the great work!
Got approved! But they checked my Fico 3 Bankscore Experian and it was 694. Don’t know they used old scores like that. My Fico 8 scores across the board are 745, 754 and 771.
For the venture x $300 credit (coupon now), do I have to book the flight before my card anniversary OR travel before my annviersary? In other words, can I book a flight but not travel until 2025 or do I have to book and travel by September 2024 assuming I apply today? Idk if this makes sense 😅
Not sure yet. I don't receive my next credit (under the new 'coupon' terms) until later in December. I'll have to look at the terms then. If you already have your credit & don't see details with an answer, call Capital One to ask directly.
Two questions: 1. Do you still get 10x/5x points for a portal booking if it’s one that gets credited back? Or is it like Chase where credit-eligible bookings are exempt from the bonus? 2. Does Hertz still recognize your status if you book with them through the portal? Or is it akin to hotels where they won’t recognize it?
1. For the 10X/5X rewards, yes. For the example in the video where I had a $928.24 hotel charge via the C1 portal, I received the $300 credit and also earned 10X (i.e. 9,282 miles) 2. I cannot confirm from personal experience about getting the Hertz President's Circle benefits while also booking via the C1 portal. Apparently it works, however. See this blog post by TPG: thepointsguy.com/credit-cards/book-hertz-rentals-venture-x/
Hi Mark. Thinking of getting a card with priority pass access and venture x is at the top of my list. Can an authorized user also bring in unlimited guests with their priority pass?
Yes, authorized users have the same guesting privileges as the primary cardholder. "Unlimited" can be subjective though, as individual lounges may impose restrictions based on current capacity limits and/or their discretion.
Hi, I have a question for you..,i usually go to a specific hotel room for a anniversary each year, although trying to book within the hotel portal the room isn't available to book, although other rooms are , it looks like there is just a generic description of the rooms and amenities av at the hotel because it doesn't include all that amenities like the hot tubs fireplaces etc, Do you have any tips to be able to view all rooms so I can take advantage of booking through the Capital One portal?
Thank you! This was so helpful! and detailed. Thinking of getting this card. I'm 2/5 with the Chase 5/24 rule [with no chase cards yet] Was thinking of getting the Ventura X then two chase cards OR 3 chase trifecta cards. I have cards and other accounts with Capital One already.
That falls under insurance & protections mentioned at 18:04. I classify those separately from standard card benefits because they're not provided directly by Capital One (rather, Visa offers them).
It should, but I can't confirm 100%. I recommend asking Capital One directly. That said, I don't usually recommend spending "exactly the amount required" for any welcome offer. Personally, I almost always spend over what's required in case I end up returning a purchase, if I miscounted how much I spent, etc.
@@richardguardiani8326 - Have her enroll / activate in the same way you did at this link. She should have a different card number: prioritypass.com/capitalone // If that doesn't work, call the number on the back of the card & have an agent take care of it.
Hi mark. cant find the last thread we communicated on. i had said the wife and i are locked out of Amex signup bonuses. we both have great credit score. both got rejected from Venture X " too many revolving lines of credit" ( about 4 cards each) you suggested Citi Premier she just got rejected ( reasons coming by snail mail) Her credit score is 756. Goal is to get cards with transfer points in her name as Virgin Atlantic account is Red Tier in her name. Any suggestions on next application? should we close some cards?
@MarkReese Hey Mark loving your videos so far. So I'm a "newbie" to the travel card space and had a simple question about the Venture X. I saw in another video where you can erase a travel purchase after the fact which was pretty cool. So can I book a flight through the portal, use no miles, get the 5x points and then erase part of the purchase with those extra points earned plus any existing points? Thanks and keep up the good work.
@@MarkReese So with the Venture X I can erase my travel at 1c/p but a statement credit only nets .5c/p on non-travel which is a waste of points. The chase card can also erase any charges at 1c/p but then you are actually losing value because you could use those points through the portal at 1.25/1.5 depending on the card. I am so grateful for channels like this as I start utilizing these type of cards and moving away from cash-back for everything.👍
@@SpartanOfFinance - Correct. And for a more advanced technique, transfer partners can yield significantly higher value than all of those methods. Here's a link to another video about it: th-cam.com/video/ae1WayyrwnE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7YTcuPmL3coL12eC
Question let’s say for some reason you didn’t travel that year, What else can you do to eliminate the annual fee? The one thing I like about the platinum card by Amex if you don’t travel that’s ok you got other credits you can do to cover your annual fee but capital one does not have it and that’s what holding me back on getting the card, I don’t travel every year but I occasionally do it just not every year
Unofficially, you may be able to book a refundable flight / hotel via the Capital One Travel portal, wait to get the $300 credit, cancel that reservation, and still keep the credit. I experienced this with one of my bookings. I wouldn't count on it working all the time or in the future, but it could be an option worth trying. That said, for someone who doesn't travel every year, I'd probably avoid keeping the card.
Yeah Capital One made a recent change (adding 1 step...#6 below). 1. Open Capital One app 2. Tap on your Venture X card 3. Tap on your Rewards Miles balance 4. Choose 'Adventure Awaits' 5. Select 'Lounges' tab 6. Select an available lounge (e.g. DFW) 7. View Pass
Keep up the great content, Mark! I got denied, but I will apply in a few months again. I need a card with a 2x on other purchases and no foreign transaction fees. Any recommendations other than Venture X?
@@MarkReese Too many recent inquiries. Completely justified, I got the Citi Premier and the CSP over the last three months. I called the reconsideration and politely asked, following your previous advice, but still refused. I am looking for 2x on points, I will be living abroad for the next two years, and after looking at different options, it seems that the combination between the CSP, Citi Premier, and Venture X it’s a good one for me. Mainly because Citi has Qatar Airways as a travel partner, and that’s where I will be moving. In any case, any other recommendation considering that background, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@@AndrewRS001 - Not aware of any other travel credit cards that earn 2X points with no FTFs and/or access to transfer partners. Consider the Discover it Miles card. It earns 1.5X (1.5%) on all purchases, but comes with the Cashback Match. That means that after Year 1, Discover will double all the miles you earned. So, it'll really be like earning 3X (3%). Quite good for no AF and no FTFs.
@@MarkReese Thanks, Mark! Maybe a good idea for a video is to explore the best card or combination of cards for people living abroad for extended periods. Some of the limitations I have seen from excellent travel cards are: the Amex gold is great if you are inside the US, the CSP is only suitable for online groceries, and the Amex platinum and CSR are 1 point on most purchases. This is where the appeal of the Citi Premier comes in, 3x on a lot of categories in or outside the US.
Hi Mark! I am in quite a pickle... I am considering closing my Best Buy credit card due to having an annual fee, but its my oldest card of 3 years. Everyone is pushing this card hard. I fell for it and got the card. We have excellent credit and pay all cards in full at the end of month. In any case, booked my first travel through Capital One Travel. The booking went smoothly. What didn't go smoothly is my return flight from Turkey to US. They messed up my reservation apparently but refused to take blame. I had to sit on the call with them for over 8 hours and with 7 reps because their phones kept getting disconnected. Finally I got a refund on the return half of the flight that came nowhere near covering what I had to pay to get back home. We're paying off the final balance and closing the account. Trust me, their customer service is set up to avoid taking any loses. They will pass the bill onto you for any mistakes that they make.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I'm personally not a fan of travel portals for most bookings. They can lead to a lot of hassle when things go wrong.
@MarkReese mark, do you think all travel portals are created equal (in terms of errors occurring), or that the bank ones are inferior to the OTA's such as Priceline, Kayak, Orbitz etc?

Virtual Card Numbers from Capital One are basically pointless. Since you cannot track what purchases were made by what or any virtual card in hindsight you will never be able to know if your actual card number or just your virtual card number was compromised in case of fraudulent transactions. Very disappointing. Citi is far superior in this area.

Great video. Just got my Venture X this evening and will use this video to sign up for all the perks!
Congrats on the approval! 💥
Another benefit is any Authorized user with their own card can also get their own Priority Pass too. 😊
That's right!
Damm.. this is so detailed. Fantastic job, Mark.
Thank you!
Just got approved! Only a 10K limit, but I’m so excited.
Boom, congrats! 👊💥
My no brainer combo:
Amex gold: 4x food and supermarkets
Venture X: 2x on everything else(gas, costco, shops…)
Savor one is 3x back with no annual fee or 4x with a $95 AF. Also 3x back on entertainment and 10x on Uber
Great 2 cards to have! 💯
Great Video as always. Question: Which of these benefits, if any, does an Authorized User get with this card
Here's a link to a blog post by OMAAT that you may find helpful: onemileatatime.com/guides/capital-one-venture-x-authorized-users/
@@MarkReese Thanks, after reading the post, it looks like a no brainer,

Yes you are!
I have the Venture card and just got the Amex Gold ..should i upgrade to Venture X or get the Platinum and not use my Venture anymore
Up to you. I'd personally use them all.
- Amex Platinum = 5X flights + benefits
- Amex Gold = dining + grocery
- C1 Venture = 2X 'other'
Can the reward point pay off my bill? Or it can use only for travel purposes?
Yes, you can redeem via statement credit to pay off your bill, but the value is cut in half. I don't recommend it.

Love how this is really a no annual fee card
For the right people, I hear ya! 😁
is it true that Cap1 pulls from Equifax, Experian & Transunion?
Yes.
I don't tell people to get cards because "Mark has a high opinion about it."
I "think / feel" that the Hilton Honors Aspire card is currently the best hotel card on the planet...
...but I don't have it. In fact, I used to have 2, and I canceled both because they no longer fit my travel habits or lifestyle.
Get the cards that give you want you want & help you achieve your goals.
Avoid the ones that don't.
So much great information, thanks for teaching us step by step.
You're welcome!
How do you use the travel portal
I have tried in the app
They have nothing for dates and times for where I’m going and no hotels either
I use the search bar as well
Nothing .
But I go outside portal I can get the hotels and flights .
So what good is it if they don’t do what you need
I have lots of miles but can’t use it
Spent 30 k of my own money for 6 first class tickets
Try it on a desktop / laptop instead.

Did you charge those flights to your Capital One Venture X card?
Mark, another great, informative detailed video. Very easy to follow. Since the C1 travel portal is an integral feature of this card, what has been your experience using the portal? I currently don’t have VX.
Portal has been fine & very straightforward 👍
I don’t have this card and yet I enjoyed this comprehensive video👍🏽👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed it! 👊
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. I am a new card holder. I am confused about your statement saying that credits expire and can not rollover to the next month or year. Which specific credit(s) are you referring to, because I am not seeing that stated anywhere? Thank -you again.
The $300 Travel Credit and the $100 Global Entry / TSA Pre credit. Those cannot be accumulated over time.
Great review. I have found the Cap One X to be one of the easiest card to get benefits from.
Absolutely!
hi, does the authorized user gets their own username and login for the Capital One travel portal? meaning for every flight or hotel reservation it is registered under the authorized user name? thanks again Mark
I "think" so, but I can't confirm as I don't have any AUs on my card. Call Capital One to confirm directly 👍
Do I have to spend the 4000 in the travel portal or do I just have to spend 4000 in general and I will get the bonus
$4K in general on standard purchases (e.g. supermarket, online shopping, gas, etc.)
Thank you
My only credit card is the chase freedom unlimited and I am interested in getting a travel card. Is it wise for me to get the VX or should I stick with chase credit cards?
What are you trying to achieve by getting another card?
@@MarkReese I want to start traveling so I want to start building points. Also I want to start getting some more credit cards.
@@suleeeeee-x5m - Since Capital One can be sensitive to having "too many" recent inquiries & accounts opened, I'd personally get the C1VX next. Then I'd go back and get the Chase cards I want, spacing out the applications by a few months.

One thing you missed is the Free Museum pass through the cultivist.
A great benefit! The Cultivist, along with 3 other membership / subscription-based benefits, were mentioned at 16:00. I did not go into detail about what each one offers in order to keep the video from going on for too long.
@@MarkReese my mistake I missed that!!!!
Hey Mark, what is the best travel card for travel with highest bonus miles ?
There isn't 1 best card & offers come & go ✌ The game is about getting that cards that compliments your goals. Generally speaking, I suggest watching this video: th-cam.com/video/hmA3N3ZLNKo/w-d-xo.html
Can we book flight tickets for someone else with "Capital on portal" and does travel credit apply for these transcations?
While frustrating, yes, that's correct. It's in the terms.
What if you enroll for these benefits using a Virtual Card Number instead of the actual card number, would that cause any issues down the road? e.g. if they need to confirm your card number.
Not sure. I can't speak to that as I haven't tried it.
Amazing video Mark! Thanks!!
You're welcome!
hi Mark, have you heard of any data point of anyone using the $300 travel credit towards hotel lunch or dinner buffet without being checked in to that hotel? will that trigger the $300 statement credit? thanks
No that will not work. The credit has changed. It's now redeemed upfront during the booking process via the Capital One portal.
Here I am watching your video past midnight with literally one eye open. I thought you said it might take up to 2 BILLION cycles. Lol. "Billing". Lol.
Haha now THAT would be a lot of cycles 😂
I applied for this card but was denied due to “too many revolving accounts” does that mean I have too many credit cards with balances or just too many credit accounts on my credit report.
Sounds like too many accounts in general. That's probably the most common denial reason I've seen for this card.
@@MarkReese Same reason I got declined.
This video was sooooo helpful!!!!
Glad to hear it!

Hi Mark and LOVE your content. Question on Visa Infinite Hotel. Will I still be able to get the $300 statement credit if I were to book a Visa Hotel? Keep up the great work!
No, booking via the Visa Infinite Luxury Hotel Collection is not eligible for the $300 Travel Credit.
Excellent video
Thanks!
Got approved! But they checked my Fico 3 Bankscore Experian and it was 694. Don’t know they used old scores like that. My Fico 8 scores across the board are 745, 754 and 771.
Interesting! Congrats on the approval & enjoy your new Venture X! ✈
Two questions:
9,282 miles)
2. I cannot confirm from personal experience about getting the Hertz President's Circle benefits while also booking via the C1 portal. Apparently it works, however. See this blog post by TPG: thepointsguy.com/credit-cards/book-hertz-rentals-venture-x/
@@MarkReese The status is totally separate. Even if you cancel your Venture X you still have status until 12/2024

Lol fair enough. Just applied and approved. Time to add wife as au.
@@reymondordillo - Congrats! Enjoy it 💯
Hi, I have a question for you..,i usually go to a specific hotel room for a anniversary each year, although trying to book within the hotel portal the room isn't available to book, although other rooms are , it looks like there is just a generic description of the rooms and amenities av at the hotel because it doesn't include all that amenities like the hot tubs fireplaces etc, Do you have any tips to be able to view all rooms so I can take advantage of booking through the Capital One portal?
Unfortunately, I don't. In order to get access to as many room types as possible, I suggest booking directly.
Glad you found it helpful!
what about the phone repair benefits?
That falls under insurance & protections mentioned at 18:04. I classify those separately from standard card benefits because they're not provided directly by Capital One (rather, Visa offers them).
Does anyone know if booking a flight through the portal and getting the $300 credit still counts towards the SUB?
It should, but I can't confirm 100%. I recommend asking Capital One directly. That said, I don't usually recommend spending "exactly the amount required" for any welcome offer. Personally, I almost always spend over what's required in case I end up returning a purchase, if I miscounted how much I spent, etc.
@@MarkReese thanks!
Heads up I have heard the $300 for the Capital One travel credit is no longer a statement credit but is credit(like Gift Card) on the Travel portal.
Yep 👍 I plan to do an updated video at some point, likely after I get my new credit in December so I can demonstrate the new process.
My wife is signed up as a cardholder on my account. Can she sign up separately for a priority pass account and get her own priority pass?
Yes. Authorized users can get their own PP card and own set of guests so you’d be able to bring four guests between the two of you.
@@MilesTalk So how does my wife do that? I know how to enroll myself, but I don't know how to do a second enrollment on the same login/card number.
She sure can!

Find out what the denial reason is with Citi first. Then call their reconsideration line to see if you can get the decision overturned.
Welcome to the world of travel cards! Correct, you can book & earn, then erase after the fact 👍
@@MarkReese Thanks for the conformation. I don't see that as an option on the chase cards though. Something to consider.
@@SpartanOfFinance - You can redeem Chase points for cash back as a statement credit at the same value (1¢ per point).
Thanks. I just got this card a month ago.
Right on, congrats on the approval! 💳

Keep up the great content, Mark! I got denied, but I will apply in a few months again. I need a card with a 2x on other purchases and no foreign transaction fees. Any recommendations other than Venture X?
Did you find out the reason(s) for the denial?
By 2X, are you interested in travel points or cash back?
Can we please get an updated total card lineup video from you

Hi Mark
Hi kazi1!
