It’s amazing that Chopra has achieved so much and still not thrown over 90m which might be required to retain his Olympic title in Paris.
Chopra needs to throw further. Even Latvian NR is higher then his PB.
@endijsblums7652 that doesn't mean much. Weather is a factor and a lot of these guys have bigger PRs in practice and just haven't had "that throw" in a meet yet

Looking at the prospective field for Paris right now I doubt anyone is going to throw over 90m there. The 3 Germans who were throwing over 90m for fun are all out of them and struggling to hit even 80m in competition now. Same story with other 90m throwers like Julius Yego and Anderson Peters. The competition is going to be between Chopra, Nadeem (still recovering with injury), Vadlejch and Weber. Vadlejch and Nadeem have both thrown over 90m once but it's going to be tall ask for them to repeat the same at. Anything close to 89m might be enough for Gold.
Paris 2024 is gonna be one of the greatest and most intensely competitive Olympics ever as far as the Javelin is concerned.
hope to see Johannes Vetter return to the world stage this season. Along with chopra and peters, paris could become a unforgettable olympics in terms of javelin trowing
Peters is nowhere near his 2022 form anymore....not even close.
Vetter is also a question mark.....the likely protagonists in 2024 Paris are likely to be Neeraj, Vadlejch and Nadeem only

Not only is he setting the tone for India, he’s setting the tone for the whole region. India and Pakistan have a famous rivalry, seeing the Pakistani on the podium leads me to believe that the Pakistanis are just as inspired by Chopra’s consistency as the Indians are.

I watched the javelin finals at the World Championships finals in 2022., Although Chopra didn’t win, he was electric and charismatic, and was a favorite among spectators.

What I love about throwing sports like javelin is that they aren't limited by body type... they are a physics problem that the human body can solve in all sorts of ways. I don't doubt Chopra can clear 90m, as consistently hovering around that 87-89m mark shows he easily has the capacity for it. If anything, I get the impression that he'd benefit from loosening up his form a bit.... the thing about the javelin is that (like a spear) it's actually about the finesse of your throw as much as the force, and when you look at 90+m throws they often look bizarrely effortless (relatively speaking anyway!). It feels like Chopra can sometimes (for want of a better phrase) try a bit too hard to throw with force instead of letting all that training, his muscle memory & the javelin do the work for him. Exciting stuff!

What I call the "sweet spot in time". When it all really comes together it feels like it's in slow motion and looks like it too. Timing and rhythm are everything.
Well, and that 89.94 proves to me he can throw 90, the only question is will he and when. Even a tiny perturbation in wind currents could probably get you 6cm.
2022 was a unique year in the Javelin with 7 different men throwing over 89m & 3 of them throwing over 90m and that didn't even include the great Johannes Vetter who should hopefully be back to his 97.76m best again!

His pound for pound strength is tryluly insane. But yeah , he may need to gain some weight to cross the 90. Once he does it, I believe he keep throwing over 90 in every competition like he does 88 now in pretty much every one

If they were to ever introduce a bodyweight to force production in Javelin, Neeraj would easily be an all-time great for his size-to-strength ratio.
But not even close to world record holder Jan Zelezny who had a even lighter body weight.

@@hawjsta The javelins are the same you are referring to the era before current world record holder Jan Zelezny when German thrower Ewe Hohn set a world record which is no longer official therefore will never be broken because of changes in specifications of the javelin, even then the weight was still the same just the aerodynamics were altered which shortens the distance achieved.

@@AryanSingh-yy9mw I guess that explains why India is a super clean, prosperous country with lot's of well run infrastructure because they are all so smart. Yes I know about brain drain, believe me I live in Canada and every Canadian is well versed on the Indian Diaspora and I keep hearing that argument from the myriad of Indian's here with fake engineering degrees they bought. Don't get me wrong I know plenty of hardworking successful Indian people but they are largely outnumbered by useless social parasites who don't shower, don't wear deodorant, don't pay taxes and if they do work at all it is with no pride or professionalism. I hear this constantly as well from Indian people born in Canada.
@@Brett733 its not that! Being near to the equator, we don't have gigantic bodies or bones. In the western world, climate has made it mandatory for you to resort to sports to keep fit. So its in your DNA, plus an automatic height and weight and power advantage. India is basically an agricultural country with sharp mind power that they have for ages fielded only in sports and games for mental acumen. Besides, most of us are vegetarians and are spiritually grown for less passion in life. And also its an individual's efforts to grow in these fields than academies, government support and so on. We have for decades leaned towards education than sports, though all of us in schools have played many games regularly.
So its nice to see such athletes out there, but still the concept of professional sportsmen needs a huge boost. it cannot be seen independent of other aspects like social integration of such sportsmen, rural sports growth, awareness among people and so on.
Medals are fine, but building a healthy nation is more important. I don't want India to change their DNA to achieve mind blowing success, which will never sustain.

It’s amazing to watch Chopra throw his entire body into his throws and then watch another guy look like he just walks up and tosses the javelin with no body behind it but come close to the same score.
He is shorter and lighter than other elite throwers. I'm no expert but I feel like he has more consistency and technique compared to other behemoths making him regularly hover around 88m. But that also signals to me that he might be plateauing and it might not be physically possible for him to breach 91m
Ive been an athlete for over 30 years and semi pro. like any other competitive athlete, the answer is always and mostly, "Its on the day or hope for a good day at the office or anything can happen"
Neeraj is consistently throwing in the 87 - 89 Mtrs range and let’s hope he throws 90+ in the Paris olympics to win the gold yet again.
I understand Chopra was teased about being a bit chubby as an adolescent. In response he worked out a training regime on his own and quietly worked his backside off. The results are obvious.
Chopra is in a sweet spot currently. Hard work + absence of Germans since 2021 has opened the field for him.
Vetter and Weber were in the Olympics brother where Niraj still came on top. His biggest strength is the consistency with which he throws between 87 to 89 meters in all the major events.
That's kind of true, but still he is more consistent than the Germans in the end. They are surely more powerful with bigger frames, but can't cross the 88-89 mark in every competition which can Chopra can stay at

Chopra is consistent, but can we talk about the Pakistani jav thrower looking at ease?! Every other javelin thrower is using their entire body and he just looked like he moved his arm and jav was like, "Aight, I'm about to head out."
He is only 26yrs old yet to hit his prime. Most Javelin throwers peak around 30yrs.

Chopra is gawesome, although he is quite a bit overrated, Jakub Vadlejch is going to take the win in Paris in my opinion, he is still a bit better than Chopra, even ended the 2023 season with the world lead
Performing at your best when it matters the most is a skill that 33yr old Jakub has yet to master!

Neeraj's build reminds me a lot of Allen Iverson with that "pound-for-pound" strength
Iverson was a lot more about speed and judging a defenders moves than actual power. He got bounced around like a ping pong ball and made shots anyway due to supreme body control, not power.
*Stockton was marginally bigger and definitely stronger. It's obvious from his defense. Something Iverson largely avoided because he didn't have the strength

Can we talk about how the ideal form for javelin is apparently to flail sideways and faceplant on your arms after your throw?

It's basically to stop their forward momentum from carrying them over the foul line (that arc at the edge of the throwing area). You can get a decent run-up before releasing the javelin (10 meters or more), and while you're essentially trying to become a human ballista it's impossible to deliver all that momentum through your back & shoulder muscles into the javelin... hence the windmilling of arms & diving to the ground to stop your whole body just continuing in the same direction as the javelin.
"only six athletes have ever won two Olympic titles in javelin" okay but only like 50 have ever won one, so it seems to me your odds of winning a second are actually way higher than of winning a first

I wish you would put a more descriptive title on your videos? "How was this even possible?" suggests a world record or some other superhuman feat. There was nothing like that in this video about Chopra.
I know it's to grab eyeballs, we who subscribe already subscribe to you don't need a fake title to entice us to watch the video. When I watched it, I have to tell you that I was disappointed. The title had set me up to expect some out of this world accomplishment, but it wasn't there. Thank you.

This TRP channel knows how to milk content for views. Undeniably Chopra is the current best javelin throwers in the world. But the truth is his 89.94 is in the 41st position in history books record, number one is 98.48, so let alone the best in history, he is not even one of the best, so why make content that's is not aligned with TRP's niche. Simple, TRP is targeting the eyes of 1.4 billion Indians hoping to get views. There are many other athletes where the best in history is performing right now from Europe, North America, and other parts of Asia like for example wrestling, weightlifting, swimming, skiing etc. But no they specifically choose Chopra just for views even thought he is not one of the best in history...
