    I am knitting as I listen to you. You are a great communicator and so inspiring. I am enjoying your calm demeanor and thank you for all the crafts. Your suggestions of yarns for the different projects are also very welcomed. As you say, we like to knit for our leisure and mental health but if we used only the yarns in the designers' patterns, we could not knit as many. Again, thank you for that. ❤

    OH wow, your soldotna is gorgeous! I've had it on my needles for a year and only done the first 10 tows so you have motivated me to get it out again and get it going. The fabric you chose for the dress is quite dark but the colour of that cushion beside you would be a wonderful colour for you, as would greens (which I know is your family colour) . I could see the dress in that maroon burgundy colour and it would give your skin and face colouring a beautiful lift. It sounded like a fussy patern wih all those parts to get right before starting but once you get that done, it could be a great staple dress in your wardrobe, winter or summer depending on the fabric. my favourite book of Margaret Atwood is Alias Grace. That is one of the most moving and beautiful books I've read.

    I also like the Friend to Friend shrug by Leslie and bought the Hue & Me yarn this weekend in the color Saffron. Now the other shrug I have saved in Ravelry is called “Saturday Shrug” which is a free pattern. Happy Knitting, Kathy from Massachusetts

    I file my wooden needles if they are too sharp. I use a nail file and file the tip enough so it feels good. Then, most importantly I use a 4-sided nail buffer to make sure to smooth it so it won't snag the yarn.

      @KnittingByTheBay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for watching! I thought about filing them down too! Glad to hear it works!

    love the privacy pose with the captain underpants books xD. also as someone who almost never follows patterns when it comes to sweater length, i feel validated by your "hey, try this on" method to get the proper fit haha. i love on the edge and don't swatch so a lot of my process involves trying things on

    Your Soldotna is beautiful. I hope to make one just like that but I will give mine long sleeves, I think.
    A poncho pattern I am currently working is Hawthorne by Alicia Plummer. It's loads of fun and simple brioche, with bobbles done by a crochet hook (AKA very fast compared to the "Nupps" like on the Magnola Bloom!)
    Thank you for a lovely podcast!

    I also like when designers give different yarn choices, it makes it so much easier. For the The Soldotna Crop by Caitlin Hunter, It would be interesting to know what the different sizes are, perhaps there is a mistake in the size you are knitting, but the other sizes are correct.

    • @KnittingByTheBay
      @KnittingByTheBay  ปีที่แล้ว

    I love your Soldotna, the colors are lovely. You seem to be a really fast knitter.
    I also really like the Kigi Pullover, its a beautiful design. The neckline is stunning.
    The choices for your next knit, from your list I would pick The Holiday Slipover and the Mariechen.
    I also love to read. I just found a series by Victoria Thompson that I really like, the first book is Murder on Astor Place. I use Fantastic Fiction to find authors. The books are all listed in order and I really like that.
    Take care, I look forward to seeing you next time.

    Nice to hear from you again! Regarding mohair: I personally can't use it bc of the itch factor, but that's not true for everyone. In the case of your chosen sweater, though, I would be concerned that adding mohair would obscure the lace and bobble design you love so much.That would be disappointing! So I vote no mohair for this project.
    And, regarding the sewing pattern: I have sewn a variety of garments over the years and my recommendation is to use the instructions, step-by-step, and trust them, and it will make sense as you go-- even if looking ahead is confusing. I've had that feeling when looking over patterns for sure. Just like with knitting patterns, it is good to peruse the sewing pattern ahead of time to get a general sense of it, but then applying it step-by-step should get you the result you want.

    Hi. I am also in the snow belt of Ontario...we might be neighbours, and I have also lived in Northern Ontario. I enjoyed your knitting and other crafts. The cross stitch patterns are so cute. Have you seen the knitting book, nightmare before Christmas, it was released yesterday. I might have to get that one. Maybe we'll cross paths someday. So long for now.

    you had me at snow and fire place, lol, expect I drink tea, other than that I was right there with you
    have you checked Purl Soho? they have some great caplet knit patterns, many are free, highly recommend them
    I also understand your statement about using expensive yarns that the designers use, my favorite designer is Isabell Kraemer, and she uses a lot of german yarns that I can hardly get in California, or the shipping is so insanity expensive, however, I found Eweknits in Toronto and they ship to California and their selection is amazing

    Sometimes if I poke my finger too much while knitting I put 1-2 layers of Leukotape on there. It has an extra sticky waterproof zinc based glue and stays on very well.

    I’m also super sensitive to itchiness and have found mohair too itchy. I use alpaca fluffy yarns instead. My favorites are DROP brushed alpaca and CaMaRose Midnatssol, and I’m going to try the Cumulus yarn soon. Hopefully you can find one of those near you and try it out. It gives a really nice halo and some extra warmth to a project

    Love your sweater!
    As for the needle’s being too sharp & hurting your finger, I use leather thimble pads I get from Amazon. They are sticky on one side so stay pretty well on your finger. I can typically get a few reuses out of each one before they lose their stickiness.

    Omg the sweater for your son is so cute. I love the Tin Can Knits patterns. I’m in Minnesota so I understand wind chill. We got so much snow last winter… we are retired (old) and bought a condominium in Florida so we will skip the winter here. The Caitlin Hunter pattern is lovely as well. With mohair I would suggest that you make a garment that you wear something under it to see if it bothers you. A mohair hat might also be a useful test . A cowl is good too

    Hello from Ontario Canada, I love your podcast. I wonder, where do you order your yarn from? I love the green Wool Eeze yarn you have ordered. I wonder, where did you order the yarn from for this sweater? I find, I face the same issues when it comes to buying yarn (cost, accessibility, shipping costs, etc.) Lastly, I wonder, where did you order the Universal Yarn from?

    • @KnittingByTheBay
      @KnittingByTheBay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the podcast 😊 I actually have a wholesale account for my cross stitch/sewing business with a company that also carries a small selection of yarns (Lion Brand and Universal) so I order those from there. But I know that Michaels carries Lion Brand Wool Ease. I also just saw some at my local Walmart although the color selection was pretty small. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck! It's a really nice green 💚
