    Hello :) Your technique is giving incredibly nice results. When I saw your pictures on FB, I thought it was carved direclty into foam and not layed 'down" like that stone by stone and I was really wondering how you could achieve such a nice result. But now I see how you do it. Thank you for sharing your technique ! :)

    Love your stone work. I never thought about using double sided tape for walls and I use it all the time for pavers🤷🏼‍♀️and having the textures foam board as a sheet….brilliant. Love what you’re doing and sharing and teaching. Thank you

    Fantastic effect, although how you didn't go insane laying all those individual tiny stones is beyond me. :D

    What a tremendous technique for those walls. I've recently finished a table top model of a farm house and carved the stonework by hand from a layer of air dry clay attached onto mdf. Your method gives the differences in stone depths and finesse that mine lacks. Just wondering if you then cast up into a more permanent material for the actual finished model?

    • @ojsmodels2368

      Thank you. I want to try air dry clay stone work myself. I don’t usually cast the walls. This was just a test piece for the sake of the video.

    Wow! That's an incredible amount of work and it really pays off. Have you ever tried casting the walls that you make, for larger models?

    • @ojsmodels2368

      Yes, It's a lot of work. I've casted a few pieces, yes.

      I get it off an eBay seller here in the U.K. called underfloorheatingcompany. But any insulation board on eBay will do.

    The sheet on the left is just texturixed xps foam?

    • @ojsmodels2368
      @ojsmodels2368  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is. It’s textured with tinfoil boil

    Beautiful, convincing result, and it's a pleasure to see such skilled work taking place. Although I must admit I was less happy to find what a laborious method is used! It's often the case in scale modelmaking that a great result is the outcome of very hard work more than some brilliant time-saving method! What I am still wondering about is the sheet of XPS foam you are using, which doesn't seem to be the standard stuff. I haven't so far come across XPS foam that is grey in colour, or that has the degree of malleability that you use to shape the individual stones, rolling them between your fingers. I have quite a bit of experience with the standard blue XPS foam and I think it would just crumble under that treatment?

    • @ojsmodels2368
      @ojsmodels2368  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Yes the result requires effort. I’ve used blue xps and had no issues. I’m based in the uk and use the insulation board foam sheets. I’m aware that there are very different foams in other parts of the world with very different characteristics. It’s all trial and error and making what you have to hand work best for you. Good luck!

      @@ojsmodels2368 Thanks very much for coming back, OJ. I am right here in the UK and have never come across XPS like this. There is a notorious level of confusion about "blue foam", other colours, XPS, Palight (foamed PVC), and other substances useable for modelmaking. I am a professionally trained modelmaker and I am as puzzled as the next person here. I am not being confused by the surface texture, as you've explained how that was arrived at. Could you possibly put me out of my bafflement by telling us what specific product we are seeing here, or even better a link to where you got it? Is it this stuff by any chance? modelshop.co.uk/Shop/Raw-Materials/Foam/Item/EVA-low-density-craft-foam-2-0-500-500mm/ITM8020

      You’re welcome. Must be interesting being professionally trained? Was that a film industry or an architecture related course? This is the material www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132601780900?var=433180350719 any insulation board on eBay should be similar. I have bought from various sellers. It’s not marketed as a model making material. It’s the only material I’ve ever tried.

      @@ojsmodels2368 Thanks again for coming back. It's hard to tell but that does look like pretty standard XPS foam, which does get made in black sometimes nowadays rather than the time-honoured blue colour (it looks grey on the video). Presumably you are using the 6mm thickness. It looks a bit thinner here, but I guess it is kind of pounded down by the tools you use to get the texture. I will have to get some of this and try your technique, because it looks great.
      Since you ask, after many years of making wargames models, I changed jobs in mid-life and was trained to work professionally as a modelmaker through the degree course in "model design" at Hertford University. They taught us architectural, SF and product modelmaking. It was indeed interesting, although there was a punishing workload! I then worked building wargames models to commission for some years. I'm retired now, but still make stuff for my own games and try to keep developing my skills. You can see a lot of the stuff I've made over the years on my blog handbuilthistory.blogspot.com/ Mostly I do 28mm scale terrain, but in recent years I've done some master models for artillery, on commission from North Star and Perry Miniatures. If there's ever anything I might be able to advise on, please feel free to ask.

      I use a hot wire cutter to cut 5mm thin sheets. Texturing with the foil ball or rough stones does compress some sheets to about 4mm. The variation in thickness helps aid the effect. Your body of work and career are inspiring. Really grateful for your kind words and will keep an eye on your website. Ollie

    What are you adhering the 3M double sided tape to? Is it black poster board or matting?

    • @ojsmodels2368
      @ojsmodels2368  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s palight, foamed pvc, painted black. You can make your structure from anything, I generally use foam board.

    Solo una domanda? E la parte dietro del cartoncino come viene finita? Applichi pietre con lo stesso sistema?
