I honestly love how chaotic NFS Rivals was - I might be bias as it was the first NFS game I’ve played but it’s still an amazingly chaotic game.

I feel like even though rivals didn’t have a story it was because it didn’t need one. Hot pursuit didn’t have a story yes? And people love hot pursuit so what’s wrong with rivals?
I would list them starting with my least fav would be no limits,pay back then rivals I loved rivals I just wish we had more customization was all
It was my first and it was the first game I saw a hacker in and it was also my first hugely competitive game as a kid besides the original garden warfare (us youngins didn't play cod back then)
Rivals is easily my most played need for speed.
Its buggy, it's broken, it's unfinished, it's terrible, but it actually has competent cops which makes it massively repayable and a ton of fun.
Its handling, while obviously simple and brake to drift, was actually the most predictable and controllable out of any other modern nfs for a long while (if you managed to mod 60fps on PC)

@@mohitparker8602 completely agree. Though I do prefer them without weapons so the cops in payback are easily my favorite with how smart the AI is, though they never get an opportunity to actually be threatening
The "mod" to unlock 60fps was a simple launch parameter you put into the desktop shortcut. No actual modding was needed to achieve optimal frame rate at the time.
@@PLAYER_42069 I know what it is, I've done it after all. Mod stands for modification so even something that simple is modifying the game.
The issue is obviously that the majority of players are on console and aren't able to do this
@Jared Carson it absolutely does. It's an awful game, rushed out the door, completely unfinished, should never have been sold in the state it was in, and yet... It's still fun if you like what it does have. It's cringy, but that's all that matters.
Its kinda funny that Theo is considering rivals the worst modern nfs while saying more pros than cons.
@@sizweneneFr, Rivals was buggy as hell, but when it worked it was a hell of an experience. It probably wouldn’t sell well, but I’d love to have another Rivals style game, one with better quality. Rivals is incredibly underrated, although somewhat understandable due to its buggy nature. But I think a lot of the hate also came from it being a more simple throwback style NFS, when nowadays everyone just wants Underground 4 🙄 I love the Underground formula as much as anyone else, I promise you, but if you can’t appreciate a throwback style NFS, you’re probably a child, or not a true NFS fan. One of the first games I ever owned was NFS:HP2. That was the original NFS formula.

@@gabeitch4372 I’m not well versed in game development, but I’ve heard it said that a remaster won’t rid the game of the bugs sadly. But again, I’m not knowledgeable in development, so I can say that for sure.
I think the best way to describe it is it's an objectively bad game (i.e quality and whatnot), but it's pure fun NFS
@@sizwenene I mean... if the game doesn't crash every 30 minutes, a good netcode and has more content then it would've fared better. I will choose HPR over this. Unbound is average.
Rivals is actually one of my favs, it's just so chaotic and it puts you on the edge of your seat all the time, and when you get to a safehouse you get a feeling of reward and satisfaction that you somehow escaped the brutal cops they had. Sure it didn't have a proper story but the game itself and the mechanics are super fun
I actually liked the story. it was chaotic seeing the good VS the Evil and the good eventually turning evil. it was also really good to see it being an opened ended story since the characters have nop face which gives them a really interesting personality
@@vanshsureka2425 Agreed. I enjoyed Rivals and liked the story because, imo, it's very "spy vs spy" themed. The result you get when 2 conflicting ideologies don't realize they're just simply 2 sides of the same coin with boths sides having the will to do whatever it takes to stand above the other; you get total chaos. I also enjoyed the fact that they got you to play both sides and see it from that sides' perspective. I see it "conceptionally" comparable to that argument of Marvel's Daredevil and Punisher as in who's really the villain here

@vanshsureka2425 the voices were kinda like asmr for me kinda cool also using the other rivals car for that one chapter soooo cool and suprised me first time around
I think what I loved the most with Rivals’ story is that it implies that both sides are at war, compared to other NFS titles where the jobs of the cops is to just keep the roads and county safe from racers
Personally I reckon NFS Rivals is one of the best modern NFS games. The absolute chaos, the cops who were out for blood the second you touched the road and I very much admired the heat system (higher tier car means you start with a higher heat). The game had a very good car list which made up for the lack of customization options. Sometimes Heat actually feels like an extension of Rivals that way.

Rivals is underrated
It had great graphics at the time and still now they’re pretty good
The cops are no doubt the most difficult to escape and it leads to some awesome and crazy moments on heat 10
And you can’t just pause you have to actually commit
So honestly rivals is one of the best need for speed games in my opinion

Honestly i really love Rivals even though its buggy as all hell. As a person who grew up with NFS 2 and Hot Pursuit, it felt like a natural evolution of HP with proper freeroam and everything. And yeah that was the first game i spent over 1400 hours on!
As for Payback, i did like the Fast and Furious approach they took, although i straight up hate the upgrade system, specially after seeing how (almost) in-depth it is in NFS 2015

The ability to play as a cop was soo much *FUN*
Imo cops should have been nerfed in rivals. Literally everyone was playing as a cops because they were pussies scared of being busted as a racer. There was always like one or 2 racers on the map and 10 cops. Hot pursuit balanced cops and racers better.

@@professional_shitter80 not the ai cops, the player cops. The ai cops were fun and engaging but player cops should be easier to destroy cause you are NOT getting a relaxing ride around the map as a racer, oh no you are going to get jumped by 30 cops
@@johnnystankiewicz295 Imo Racers ware unappealing from the very start:
-Early game is worse and way more tedious.
-Tech is way inferior compared to the cops.
-Cops have way better cars all the way from beginning to end, with the final car being quite literally twice as better than the racer equivalent in every single aspect outside of durability.
-You can quite literally play Cops as if you ware racer without suffering any penalties whatsoever, even though you definitely should've had.
-The game dosen't reward Racers nearly enough for the 'risky' stuff they do, with the point system applying also to the cops as well only exept adding huge bonuses on bounties.
-Hunting down heat 18 Racer is unironically more rewarding than going through all the trouble of reaching heat 18 (and surviving) as a Racer.
-The “assignment system” for Racers dosen't nearly represent the “high risk high reward” gimmick Racers ware going for, at the end of the day you are still just grinding limit breaks without any way to work around it.
I think the ending of the campaign represents perfectly the fundamentals with both factions: Zafir dies in car crash while trying to reach glory, Cop becomes power hungry and blood thirsty and gets away with just slap on the wrist for his reckless behaviour.

I always loved the graphics of nfs rivals, I feel like the graphics where ahead of its time. All it needed was actual good customization and maybe a better story in my opinion.
Rivals was just ahead of its time period. Technical issues aside, Rivals was always such a good ass fuckin NFS that was pretty much non-stop fun in my experience. It was the epitome of what a NFS game *should* be. Not this stupid fuckin woke rap, wacky visuals shit we have today with unbound. It's a joke and honestly Criterion just needs to go away. Heat is still a much better game than unbound. As a long-time NFS fan, it's disappointing to say that unbound will be the first new game in the series that I actually don't buy.

@@warriorharj79 oh, I absolutely do mind. Despite being a criterion title, I really don't think most wanted 2012 was the worst. We need Ghost back. They at least have more of an idea of what they're doing. Criterion is gonna fuck it up if nobody else takes over for the future games.
I played many of the NFS games and Rivals oddly was one of my favourites however, very very broken. I even took a mobile photo of when I managed to accumulate over 2 mil before the game froze. Realistically I feel more the downsides were the game was ahead of it's time leading to vehicles spawning late on console, glitches and bugs all the time. There isn't many games where you can play the police in a full on fun police hunt down.

I like how the game is called No Limits, yet you have to use credit card for the crappy microtransactions. The most annoying thing is that, you have to get a certain amount of rep of level to progress and use real life money for the gas and etc

The meaning of title is how to get upgrades with any means necessary, either by free method or real life money.

Had to say this, even whatever are said to NFS Rivals such as it's bad or bugged,
This is the only NFS that got me playing more than an hour, even 5 straight!
It's full of actions, scenery, variety (Not customization tho) and choices. Sometimes, the bugs made the the game are more fun to play with. And challenging.
I just can't get myself used to newer NFS, it's just doesn't feel right...
And the graphics..Man, as if you're playing inside a movie.
I enjoy playing Rivals, that's what some newer NFS are lacking. The experience are wild!

Rivals is easily one of the best Need for Speed games, maybe only beaten by Hot Pursuit 2010. Rivals is definitely better than all the NFS games that came after it.

In my defense, ive never had a situation where i hated an nfs so much that ive uninstalled. Unbound was the first time i took a step back and said, im not accepting this.
Unbound and Hot Pursuit are the worst ones to me. I tried so hard to like them but Criterion just screwed them up.

I genuinely loved Rivals. If they just patched the game with native 60fps support, fixed some of the bugs, and allowed you to pause in single player it would easily be the best modern nfs in my opinion. Its already my favorite, but that would make it so much better
I feel like Rivals felt more like an updated version of the 2010 hot pursuit and I enjoyed the game looking at it that way. It’s hard to milk out a story from such a game and oddly enough I think the approach taken in Rivals was better than the one from HP 2010.

I grew up with nfs rivals and my xbox 360 and it is such a blast, to say it was the worst i think is a bit of a stretch, only things really lacking is the customization and the story and the amount of bugs and glitches.
If I could “Frankenstein” my perfect need for speed… I would take the mayhem cop chases and 10+ minute final races from rivals; billboard smashing from 2012; the events from payback; soundtrack from underground 2; the customization from unbound; and combining the maps from all of the ones mentioned…
nfs rivals is one of the best car games I ever played
Payback is my favorite NFS, by a mile. Don't understand "map is bare, nothing to explore" when it had 5 derelicts (25 items) to find, around 100 poker chips to find.... That's a lot more than 2015 has. I also don't understand why people dog the story of Payback because it's the only NFS game that has a story of any substance. The rest of them, including 2015 with its real-actor cutscenes, basically just boil down to "bro, I drive to the extreme!"

30 fps, constant connection issues, no real story, pretty much just a more modern hot pursuit 2010 with some extra stuff and cars and that's it.

NFS Rivals is probably the most fun racing game I've ever played, great car control, the drifting is crazy, amazing speed visualization, drift charging nitro, sick gadgets, total police-racer chaos, you can go on massive destruction sprees, it's so intense... getting to the closest gas station kilometers away with your low health and 3 cops trying to get you with EMPs. I'm probably gonna replay it again sometime.. again... love it... WAIT WHAT??? WORST NFS????? ARE YOU INSANE??!?

NFS 2012 is the best arcade NFS title. Considering quality aspects and not adding nostalgia to the mix.

Dissing Rivals? Come on now, it's like strapping into a virtual death race with cops hot on your tail - graphics so sharp they could cut glass and tunes that make you wanna rev your engine. It's practically a rite of passage for adrenaline junkies!

NFS MW2012 only gets so much hate because it is a NSF title. If it wasn't a NFS title, i bet you people wouldn't complain as much. Because it was a NFS title without any customization

I'm writing this as a long time NFS fan who's very aware of the cons of every single game except Unbound (didn't get a chance to play it yet and idk if I'm gonna if I can too) and I'm thinking we can start the "modern" era with NFSHP, I had so much fun playing Most Wanted, Rivals, 2015 and Payback, to me the worst modern NFS is hands down Hot Pursuit (Shift 2 is special for me so not counting it). And my favorites are The Run and 2015.
Calling NFS Rivals "the worst" while No Limits exists (why is it even in the video?) is, I wanna say a disgrace but it'll sound too much so, a huge shame.
HP 2010/ Remastered is the worst. My first was Underground 1 and played them all except pre- HP 2, World, Nitro, and MW 2012. What makes it the worst is they mixed NFS with Burnout and the time trials and their penalties.....omg.
Other than NO INGAME PAUSE, rivals was the MOST FUN. & Carbon was probably the hardest. I played em all. Burnout paradise was the most memorable. Actually taught me how to read the roads/map for the first time.❤
I still think NFS 2012 is underrated. Graphics, car sounds, MUSIC is awesome. What I found in the recent NFS games are that they're so childish nowdays and "bright". NFS 2012 had the dark feeling too it which I liked.

@@Nottheoutline420 how isn't nfs 2012 dark? If you compare 2012 to unbound and Heat. Unbound got the "anime vibe" to it which I don't really like and Heat got the neon effect everywhere. Nfs 2012 just puts you in a world with nothing of the "unatural" stuff. And yes rivals is indeed dark lol
First modern need for speed ive ever played, i grew up with a ps2 most of my life, i still have it. The vibe rivals gave off was so good. The music and the easthetic scenery is still nostalgic.😢
I think it's outrageous to rank a console title below a mobile title, because no limits is never fun while rivals has it's moments but even if we ignore all the non-console/pc games, I don't think the worst one is rivals. Simply because it was a ton of fun, just like hotporsuit 2010 was. 2015 on the other hand had an awful story with the cringiest cutscenes and awful handling so I think it's only fair to rank it the lowest, sure it was the reboot of the series but it wasn't fun or good in its own right
the only thing that make rival bad is theres no actual story... the graphic is insane to this date the effect is also one of the best for the last 10 years. for you that crying rival is not like underground or mw. its ghost first game they HAVE to test the "water" first with og nfs recipe then they read the feedback what we want.
NFS doesn't need a story imo, a plot would be good, but there's no need for a story, something like Underground is good imo, you want to be the best racer in the city, that's it.

Im talking like this because im tired with both of them. The nostalgic ass fans and with nfs. Im tired reading them in comment and tired defending nfs that this time will be a proper nfs. for the past decade the m3 gtr has been thrown around with unproper story presentation including unbound, heat, 2015. Like the basic 5w1h for a story, theres none for the m3. It just there for the sake of "OOOHH THE M3 IS COMEBACCK" thats why we need an actual story. And we already have the plot just deliver it properly even someone can make it in yt video somehow connected to ryan cooper. I swear them "trying out new style" is just an excuse for proper nfs story that has lore to previous tittle

All the cutscenes form a story on both perspectives. Dig down in the storyline amd you know why Redview County suffers the street racing epidemic.
I literally just banked 1,000,000 SP in Rivals, and this is the first thing i see in my recommended. Talk about timing.
Rivals is fun. I think it's way better than Hot Pursuit. The graphics still hold up and has a great car list

NFS Rivals was the first modern NFS game I played and god i loved it so much.
True to be daid, it was from like 2013-2014 and i was 10 at that time, but still today when i look at it or watch videos about it i'm still in love.
First of all the graphics. God damn if the graphics were godly, being a game of 10 years ago, still defends himself pretty decently against other new games.
Then the fact you could use boosters like EMP, or shockwave or those things that made the game funnier and crazier, things that some other games (like the original The Crew) tried to replicate but failed miserably.
And then the fact that you could choose if being a cop or a driver, that thing still makes me love that game so much, no other games I played did that or at least did that in that way.
Yes, it had many cons, like being too chaotic and being a cop was far easier, literally sometimes you could just roam or be parked somewhere as a driver and suddendly 10 cops were behind you, and plus the servers were pretty terrible, but already the fact that you could play that also offline made it better than many other games.
Ohh and not to be forgotten, it's the 1st NFS game after many years that finally brought back Ferrari, something many games, even newers, struggle to do (original the crew didn't have them).
NFS Rivals might have been hated by every lover of tradiction (like what happened to crash bandicoot), but it will always stay in my memories as one of the best games i've ever played.
Rivals was one of the best Need for Speed games, the story was ok but the driving was good, the cops were a challenge plus the open world cops and robbers it was something we wanted that we couldn’t get in Hot Pursuit 2010. Rivals is in the tier of 05 Most Wanted
I have a love & hate relationship with Rivals. I have this game on PC. I loved driving the cop cars and DLC cars, but then randomly out of nowhere, the game would stop loading the map and my car would freeze. I had to use SuperF4 to close the game. The game is also locked at 30 FPS, and the only way to make it 60 FPS is to enter a specific code to one of the game files.

Rivals 2013 was the best modern Burnout style NFS game to this day. Soundtrack is solid and it even looks better than any NFS after it. That game was seriously fun and smooth.
HP2010R is even better with a far greater car list and good sountrack as well.

I loved NFS Payback. It was the first "real" racing game that I played and I spent so many hours on it. It'll always hold a special place in my heart.

Rivals had the chaotic cops but the cops in payback was way worse. Like where can you see a corvette catching up to a literal super build bellair? That game was broken
NFS Rivals is pure carnage but it kinda is the objective since it's Hot Pursuit but there's no mercy for street racers

NFS rivals was one of the first racing games I ever played when I first got a console for my 7th birthday. Not only did it first get me into racing games, it also taught me anxiety in having 25% of your health left while the closest gas station is 1.3km away. Good times.

I grew up on NFS rivals and recently got back into NFS games with payback. I’m a sim racer but this is fun to relax and customize cars and stuff. I honestly thought payback must have been the best game until I realized everybody hated it, I’ve just downloaded unbound so we’ll see how that goes

Bro Rivals hate feels so forced and so nitpicky cause they don't even talk about what things are really bad. The customization compared to other NFS games is poor yes, the story doesn't really affect the gameplay but it's still way better than 2015, Payback and Heat without even having cutscenes. The online although at the time I never played this game online but I did heard that it was really bad and grimy that player cops were op but offline this game is easily top 10 NFS game. All the things fans are asking for right now are things Rivals had. Aggressive but fun cops to play against, a Heat system that gives you more money the higher it gets, a map that feels engaging to play, great graphics and physics to this day and even a banger soundtrack and a different side of gameplay in being a cop trying to stop street racers which is interesting. Saying that this game is worst than Limits, a mobile game with shitty micro-transactions and Payback is baffling.
Rivals is the most chaotic NFS game. However its chaotic nature is why I keep coming back to it despite its bugs and unfair spike placements
From a personal standpoint I would honestly pick Most Wanted 2012 over Rivals. Hear me out. Rivals looks great, has a great variety of cars (albeit a handful are paid DLC), but the physics and the handling felt way too stiff. Yes its predictable but it's way too solid and grippy compared to MW2012. The chaos was also pretty fun and annoying at the same time depending on your situation, for instance cops appearing in a race arent a problem but if youre just cruising with a mate and that random Marussia B2 comes charging at you when youre doing a non-threatening speed is rightly annoying. MW2012 felt more free with the physics, it felt more fluid and enjoyable. The cops were still a menace but with the cops' absence in online it was a tad more peaceful for the avid meet and cruise type of player. The cars were great as were the sounds at the time because they were frighteningly accurate to the real thing. The game modes were fairly good and the DLCs, ableit also paid for, are actually really good. The themes for the DLCs that were picked out for the DLCs were rather genius, movie cars, hot hatches, speed machines, the cool airport expansion. For me MW2012 just felt more fluid and more enjoyable compared to the stiff and chaotic Rivals. Yes both suffer from a lack of tuning and modifications, or should i say proper modifications as both had a form of it at least, and both suffer from a lack of storyline, MW2012 worse than Rivals, but MW2012 still felt better to play for me. It felt smoother and still looks very very pretty for an 11 year old game. Not many games of the time pulled off such stunning visuals and another game of the time, Driver San Francisco, was just as good if not better than MW2012. The early 2010s was peak gaming, when everything felt good, fluid, fun. A great era for gaming
Rivals is probably my favourite of all the Ghost games need for speed games because its easily the most defined and confident in what its trying to be. Its Edgy, its over the top, But it doesnt interrupt that edge for a quirky funny moment, it takes itself seriously and knows exactly what its trying to be.
having first played it in 2019, i encountered very few if any bugs at all in how it plays, no pop in, no map breaks hell not even a single crash, The Soundtrack is great, the graphics have aged spectacularly, and the gameplay no matter how simple is slick and fun.
Though take my opinion with a grain of salt, my childhood NFS was undercover lmao

If you care about free roam however, there is not much except a free run mode where you can play any track without other players, or you can install a mod to allow you to play free roam.

I’m currently grinding the Platinum trophy on Rivals and it’s easily the worst NFS imo. You can’t see shit ahead of you while speeding because of the motion blur, it’s worse if you aren’t on a massive tv, the handling is garbage because the turning is delayed, you crash if you just touch the wall, in the dark you can’t see because the headlights don’t shine more than 5meters, the story is so generic. Also you can’t customise anything and you’ve pretty much explored everything the game has to offer within the first 10 minutes so grinding the platinum is extremely tedious.

I have the platinum trophy on this game and AT LEAST 1000 hours on it from back when I used to play it EVERYDAY since 2013, I absolutely love this game and it's probably the reason I like cars so much. Might be nostalgic bias but I absolutely love it so much. It's a 9/10 game for me, if they had customization options it'd be the best NFS ever for me. The graphics are so ahead of their time. It's still beautiful to this day
My main issue with Rivals was how buggy it was and the fact that is was online all the time. Of course I prefer having customization and all that, but its a competent game and a good Hot Pursuit successor. No Limits I haven't played and I never intend on touching it. 2015's handling ruins the entire game and the dialogue was like so weird and uncanny somehow. Payback I never finished because I had terrible rng with the card system + the story was not engaging and the last 2 games are pretty damn good. Here's my ranking.
1- Unbound
2- Heat (game doesn't have enough content to be #1)
3- Rivals
4- 2015
5- Payback
You can play single player in Rivals unlike 2015 which requires internet connection.
to be honest after NFS CARBON the game wasn't the same as before, weird ideas, no customization , lack of story and interesting career mode, made the game exhausting

@@MidnightApex-ml6jc nfs 2015 had just some buddy kits and you can't call it fully customization, like you can't compare it with nfs ug2 customization , but anyway the game was terrible since then , so now it gradually getting better but still it needs so much work to do , like those weird effects on Unbound ?! there could be an option to turn them Off completely , the conversation is annoying , focus is more on challenges than story and single mode , i don't know but it i feel this is not the game i expected .
