God Mebius meant something to me back in high school. The episode where Mirai fought the imperalizer for the first time and the twist with his origin lives rent-free in my mind.
Mebius is such a great show and one I usually recommend to friends who aren't really well versed in Ultraman or tokusatsu. I watched it when I was relatively new to Ultraman as a whole so it holds a special place in my heart for that.
My favorite episode has to be the one with Leo. He offered harsh yet important lessons of: Not giving up until you've done everything you can Being able to soldier through the tough and sad moments in life because it will get harder. And training as hard as you can to survive when those hard moments do come.
Mebius is for sure my favorite, it's just so infectious and earnest, it felt like something I needed whenever I was going through something, outside of that it's just such a fun and bombastic show that goes all out without looking back. Watching Mebius Phoenix Brave's final battle against like Empera is like the closest I've ever felt transcendance, it's just so climactic.
The moment I saw this video thumbnail on my dashboard, I just burst into tears. Max may have been my first Ultraman show, but Mebius was the one that got me invested about the Ultra series and I get to connect with some family members who watched Ultraman Ace. I truly cherish this show.
Really hope Goldn never changes his MS Paint avatar because I legit love it. Also Mebius is legit one of the best seasons and a proper milestone celebration that feels like TsuPro poured everything into it
For me, this was always my favorite Ultraman show imo. The way they paid tribute and respected the past showa era shows was heartfelt and beautiful. From bringing back past actors and characters as well as continuing plotlines from previous shows, you can tell how much of a love letter this show was for Ultraman.
Just writing to say, your ultra retrospectives are always incredibly insightful, fair, and nuanced. It really feels that no matter what ultra show it is you at least understand the show and I think that’s incredible
tsuburaya just said:"ya'll we're going bankcorrupt. So let's make a super expensive ultraman series starring the showa era ultraman, even if it's a flop we are filing for bankcorrupcy anyway" and it work..... SO GOOD acttualy that it made the series so memorable to every single person that had ever watched it
I grew up watching the Heisei era and i think Ultraman Mebius is definitely my top 5 favorite Ultraman shows ever. Love the characters, the soundtrack, the callbacks and references to the showa era, everything in the show is almost perfect. It's also considered to be the last "traditional" Ultraman shows by the fans simply because there's barely any toy gimmick. It's definitely a show that appeals to both Showa and Heisei era fans. Currently I'm rewatching Ultraman Mebius for nostalgia and wow it's aged like fine wine. It's still a really good show :D
Apparently the Ultraman Brothers movie was filmed way before the actual 1st episode of Mebius, which might explain why the first half of the show suffered. They were probably struggling to find a sweet spot between progressing the story and not showing too much until the movie comes out. On a different note, finding out that Shunji Igarashi's mainstay replacement is Jun Fukuyama, one of my favourite voice actors, is quite the blessing in disguise.
honestly didn't know that the original voice for mebius left, but strangely for his recent appearances..... it really does fit for me thinking about it because it kinda shows his growth from a young ultra into a more experienced one able to teach others
What's dumb is that Fukuyama *can* sound more like Igarashi (he's done many characters that could pass as an Igarashi impression), but for whatever reason, his voice doesn't even feel like the same *kind* of character. I'm used to it now but it's definitely bizzare.
@@USSMariner I feel it's because Mebius, by the time of the two Ultra Galaxy Fight miniseries he appeared in, has already matured and become a veteran much like the Showa Ultras were in his show. This Ultra series means so much to me, back when I was a kid I tuned in to this show from the beginning to end. The end made my kid self bawl in tears.
I am 19 and watched Mebius very recently. I've watched a few other showa shows as a child and even binged a few during quarantine as well as Tiga and Cosmos. Mebius was my first *new* show that I watched and god it left such an impact on me. The optimistic themes really makes me love this show and I love Mirai as the protagonist. The only character of the main cast I don't like is Ryu and I love the way the finale was handled with its high stakes. Since Mebius I've watched Geed but haven't had much time for much else. I only watched Geed because I love Zero and thought Geed's concept was interesting. Mebius isn't my favorite ultra (That belongs to Cosmos and Zero) but he does have my favorite series. I especially love his theme song and have heard it so many times I can sing along despite not knowing japanese. Its a good show
I personally loved the attack team dynamics. It really sold them as genuine friends not jist coworkers. Their interactions along with showa episodes was the icing on this delicious cake
29:00 the funniest thing is that there are 2 versions of how Seven revived. The first is that Animator Expo Jackal vs Ultraman shortfilm, when Zoffy revived his brothers and they do the combo beam finisher. The funny thing about this is that Seven presence here is very random, he was already dead prior to the events of the short, so he has no relation to the conflict whatsoever, so it's like he just tags along. The second is from an Ultraman Mebius Novel, where as Silverbloome ate the base, Mother of Ultra teleported him away to the land of light where she finally healed him up. Why she didn’t save the other people on the base I have no idea. Both are really stupid, but hey, good to have him back, right?
the second one probably can be explained with something like: " Uhh... you see, you are a being of light, while they are a being of flesh, so uhhh that's why i can't teleport them. Yeah, that is totally the explanation Dan. "
Maybe with the second one, it could just a matter of her not being able to save the others in time and only managed to save Dan at the last moment, he was the last one to get swallowed after all and the assault by Silverbloome was sudden and a surprise attack, though I haven’t read that novel, just going off of the info here
Let's go!!!!! I've been waiting for someone to review or retrospect this series. This and Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle were the shows I'd watched as a child.
Mebius is hands down my ffavourite ultra series, the best contender to it is between Tiga and Cosmos. I just love that they went with the nostalgia route and as a kid I was super surprise to see many familiar faces, both Ultras and Monsters, to be in one series. The most shocking thing that got me was that Mirai's identity as Mebius was revealed halfway within the show, and kid me was going nuts about it. To this day, I'd go back to TH-cam to see if I can find any videos of full episodes of Mebius and remember the good ol' days of childhood, and this series being the end of my Ultraman obsession has a special place in my heart.
Great review man! I think that's so cool that a heisei era show was a sequel to the showa era and ended with a obscure epic final villain. As someone who's not too familiar with Ultraman and doesn't have the time to watch all these series I really appreciate your retrospectives. Keep up the great work and congratulations on 30k
I remember watching Mebius when it aired in my country as a kid. It was the first show that introduced me to Ultraman and I am still watching it every now and then. I associate myself with the show a lot because the fact I was born in the year when it aired and still proud about that.
My thanks for you making this video cannot be fully appreciated. I am so grateful for not only this video, but also for Mebius for introducing me to this beautiful franchise.
In Ultraman connection theres an article about what to watch after Ultraman rising for new fans and the FIRST recomendation on the list is Ultraman Mebius And I think that says a lot ☺❤
Ultraman Mebius is my all time favorite Ultra Hero and series. It helped me get into the Ultra Series and know so much about the franchise. I got into it back in the fall of 2010 during a time I entered the Kaiju community. The four TH-camrs who did the whole Four Heavenly Kings made me get into the franchise. But Mebius for me is what I feel made the Ultra Series so special and I wish that a lot of the new gen series recaptured that spark. But for now Mebius holds a special place in my heart as my number one.
Mebius is a favorite of mine, probably my fave Heisei era show. I'm a sucker for legacy stuff like this but especially when it's paying off like decades of stories and characters. I also love, love, love how the show has the Attack Team find out Mebius' identity a little over halfway in. I really wish other series would play with this idea instead of always waiting until the series finale to reveal it to the rest of the cast.
As a Indian who watched ultraman mabius on tv a decade ago, it was the only ultra show that aired on tv and I love it along side ryukendo and other few toku shows like power rangers.
5:20 I suspect GIG is another reference to Captain Scarlet (Eiji Tsuburaya was famously a fan of Gerry Anderson's work) - the catchphrase for the heroic team Spectrum in that show was "SIG" - which meant "Spectrum is Green".
I'm a newcomer to the Ultra franchise, and this was the show that really got me into it. Great attack team, cool secondary Ultra with Hikari, going down the rabbit hole of the Showa timeline & some of the great stories it has to tell, and Mirai/Mebius is my absolute favorite Ultra (right alongside Zero) for his awesome design, attacks, and personality. G.I.G.!
The one thing thst surprised me the most about Mebius and the 8 Ultra Brothers is that this was the only time that Madoka actually shouted his Ultra name before becoming Tiga.
Mebius was one of my first entries to the franchise trough the movies I got on DVD, now recently I started watching the show due to respect and nostalgia for him and finished it these last weeks and it will be hard to take him from the top, really loved watching Orb and Z but the pure respect for Mebius is enough to make him the ultimate peak.
This is one of my absolute favorite ultra shows only being matched by Geed, Gaia, Orb and Nexus and every time I look back on Mebius I just feel really happy like you said this show is just so positive that it is infectious
This was the first ultraman show I learned about as a kid so it has a special meaning for me. So much so it’s actually the first ultra show I personally watched to completion.
Great Video man, Mebius is truly one of the absolute best ultra show IMO. And that monolouge about being the last of it's kind truly touched my heartstrings. as for the next retrospective. maybe Dyna or Gaia.
Never watched this one, but I was introduced to Mebius through the Ultraman Mebius and Ultrabrothers movie. I loved that movie as a kid and Mebius was a stand out Ultraman from there. The reason this is showing up in my feed is because I just rewatched that movie on youtube.
Even though this show is one of the first two Ultraman series I've watched (the other was Nexus) many years ago, it somehow managed to make me feel nostalgic for series I'd never actually watched. Maybe I just really liked the idea of older heroes showing up to teach Mebius. I recently finally watched the Armored Darkness film, and that made me feel nostalgic all over again, but this time for a series I actually did watch.
7 years ago when I started Ultra series I was realy interested about Mebius but decided to watch showa series first. It was worth it. Mebius handled fanservice and cameos better than many other shows. I think it's the best anniversary tokusatsu series.
I've only been an ultraman fan for like a year. Haven't even finished a single showa Ultra series but when I first watched Mebius (It was my 4th Ultra show I think) I thought it was so fucking solid, Despite only watching minimal showa stuff I can tell so much love was put into this show and the more I watch more showa Ultraman. My appreciation for Mebius just continues to grow and is my top 3 favorite Ultra and Ultra show in general despite it's flaws
Isana was played by Kohei Murakami. He was most famous for playing Masato Kusaka/Kamen Rider Kaixa in Kamen Rider Faiz. If you think Ultraman Agul was a bastard, whoooooo boy! Check out Faiz.
The real strength of this show to me is the characterization. In previous shows, you could hardly tell most members of the defence force apart. There was Ultraman, the Captain, the girl, and a bunch of interchangeable guys. Right from the start for Mebius they clearly define who everyone is, and everyone has their strengths, weaknesses, and character arcs.
When watching Mebius I had only seen the first Ultraman show, yet not only did the references hit hard regardless but it made me want to watch the older series more, on top of having a fun cast and having really nice episodes. I'm really glad it wasn't the finale, but if Mebius had been the end given what Tsuburaya went through, it comforts me knowing the series would've gone out with a big bang. I hope Toei one day makes an anniversary show like this for Kamen Rider, since the Showa Riders had a continuity similar to Ultraman even if thats wishful thinking
I never even watched the show fully until recently but I still feel nostalgic for it. It has that feeling of nostalgia If I remember Georgie is from Spain that’s why he’s speaking Spanish.
As far my top 10 Ultra show so far, i would be ranking it out like this: 1.) Nexus (9,8/10) 2.) Gaia (9,7/10) 3.) Mebius (9,6/10) 4.) Z (9,4/10) 5.) Ultraseven (9,3/10) 6.) Cosmos (9,2/10) 7.) Dyna (9,1/10) 8.) Tiga (9,1/10) 9.) Ultraman 1966 (9/10) 10.) Orb (9/10) Honerable mention: 1.) Blazar 2.) Geed 3.) Max 4.) Ultra Mega Monster Battle (both seasons) 5.) Return Of Ultraman 6.) Decker 7.) Leo 8.) X
About Mebius Infinity usage in the series, the form did appear again in Ultra Galaxy Fight The Destined Crossroads. But yeah, for a long time that form only appeared once in Mebius and the Ultra Brothers movie and never ended up being used again. At least Infinity can still be used again, can't say the same for Phoenix Brave.... since pretty much everyone except for Hikari are most likely passed away in canon due to old age.
I'm quite sad that Mebius got nerfed and overshadowed by Zero. I agree that Zero is cool and helped revive the company, but my boy Mebius got nerfed so bad. 😢 He always has a place in my heart.
I feel like the problem with previous monsters returning is that they don't do any variety. There are so many monsters that can be reused like I would personally love to see new stories with Seabozu and Jamilla.
24:38 This is Kohei Murakami. fun fact He did the *"Legendary Smile of Sand Creep"* only in the "next ep CM featuring his cameo", but not in the run of said ep.

Dyna was where I started, but Mebius was the 1st ever show i finished, start to end. It was gorgeous, and introduced me to showa all in one go.
mebius has gotta be my 2nd favorite ultraman design
As showa guy who watched all of them when they aired my country in the 90s, the show is the best thing ever
Mebius is my favourite Ultraman. I've watched it since i was Elementary School.
GIG An old Italian toy company. :D Fantastic job as always on this retrospective video. :) Very informative. :)
My appreciation for Mebius just continues to grow and is my top 3 favorite Ultra and Ultra show in general despite it's flaws
mebius base form has the coolest ultra design in the entire franchise history
It's a really cool design. It's a perfect mix between Showa and Heisei design 😀
8:58 he's everywhere Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and now This... It's wow man wow
Isana was played by Kohei Murakami. He was most famous for playing Masato Kusaka/Kamen Rider Kaixa in Kamen Rider Faiz. If you think Ultraman Agul was a bastard, whoooooo boy! Check out Faiz.
Ah yes my first Ultraman alongside Ginga so many happy memories with this show.
The nostalgia centric show is nostalgic now 😢
Lovely retrospective, as always! Tiga was my jumping-on point, but I feel like this could've been it if I hadn't seen that 4kids dub as a wee babe.
I never even watched the show fully until recently but I still feel nostalgic for it. It has that feeling of nostalgia
If I remember Georgie is from Spain that’s why he’s speaking Spanish.
8:59 - I identiΦ'd that actor.
I wonder how coarse those sands were
mebius was spectacular, my 3rd ultra after taro and gaia im pretty sure and i absolutely love this show
24:36 Oh hi Kusaka
Y’know, I had a feeling that guy was in other things because the hair was really specific. I wasn't wrong I guess, lol.
@@ZaGorudan It's not his hair, man. It his face and that exact expression.
I was waiting for this❤

41:06 it even says 0% fruit lmao
great video :D
This show was my fav sunday morning show like literally the only one
About Mebius Infinity usage in the series, the form did appear again in Ultra Galaxy Fight The Destined Crossroads.
But yeah, for a long time that form only appeared once in Mebius and the Ultra Brothers movie and never ended up being used again.
At least Infinity can still be used again, can't say the same for Phoenix Brave.... since pretty much everyone except for Hikari are most likely passed away in canon due to old age.
It's finally here!
Mebius got me throw some lame times in my life. It's a very special show to me.
I'm quite sad that Mebius got nerfed and overshadowed by Zero. I agree that Zero is cool and helped revive the company, but my boy Mebius got nerfed so bad. 😢 He always has a place in my heart.
They Debuff Max and Mebius so hard they have been only background characters
I feel like the problem with previous monsters returning is that they don't do any variety. There are so many monsters that can be reused like I would personally love to see new stories with Seabozu and Jamilla.
Grew up watching Nexus and Mebius, loved Nexus more but Mebius is good too. The cameos just brings sunshine to my heart.
24:38
This is Kohei Murakami.
fun fact
He did the *"Legendary Smile of Sand Creep"* only in the "next ep CM featuring his cameo", but not in the run of said ep.
30:51 that form was actually recently used again in Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad
