Taking emotions out of decisions is one key to success.

While you follow a logical plan, emotions can still derail it.

basically succesful people are more decisive and follow through with their decisions.. this makes sense and is not big news! Unsuccesful people go with the flow and don't follow up with the few decisions they take.. basically!

Thank you so much for the value, Pat! As expected your channel lives up to its name!! 🙌
    Lessons:
    1. Game Theory - The prisoner's dilemma. Think of the consequences of the decision and how you respond to them.
    2. Worst Case Scenario Analysis - Can you live with the worst outcome of the decision.
    3. Value and Principles - Analyse if the decision aligns with your life values and principles.
    4. Get Great (Objective, experienced, reasonable & unbiased) Counsel.
    5. Consider your Alternative(s).
    6. Decision Fatigue - Avoid making big decisions when fatigued! Sleep on it if you can.
    7. Stick with your decision - Once you've made your decision, stick to it!

0:14 - The meaning of decision in Latin is to cut away from the past.
0:31 - Making tough decisions is often difficult because we are cutting away from certain aspects of our lives.
1:00 - Using game theory can help us make tough decisions with the biggest odds in our favor.
2:01 - The prisoner's dilemma is an example of game theory where we have to weigh the risks and rewards of our decisions.
3:29 - Consider the worst-case scenario and ask yourself if you can live with it before making a tough decision.
4:01 - If a decision doesn't align with your values and principles, it's best to move on.
5:58 - If an opportunity comes your way but it doesn't match your values and principles, move on.
6:34 - Get great counsel from someone who is neutral and reasonable in their decision-making process.
7:58 - Always consider your alternative options before making a tough decision.
8:48 - Avoid making major decisions when you are fatigued, as it may cloud your judgment.
9:54 - Once you make a decision, stick to it and avoid second-guessing yourself.

What works for me in terms of having an alternative is to write down the pros and cons of the decision. It's called the Benjamin Franklin method of making decisions. If the pros is greater than the cons then I will execute it. If the cons are greater then I will pass. Ofcourse it works the best by taking in everything what Patrick said. :)

he talks about considering worst case and deciding whether to join the military and go to war.
worst case is not death. worst case would be a injury that prevents you from functioning normally for the rest of your life....and there are thousands of veterans to look at if you want to know what could happen.
    that is a tough decision.

  • @PhoReal

My girlfriend and I have been together for almost 4 years (college sweethearts). And we moved in with my parents after graduating.
She wants to move out on our own, but I do not think it’s the best action to make at this point, and this is a major problem for us. She wants to finally have a place of her own, but at the same time she will be going to law school in a year (most likely out of state), while I have just started working in my field less than 6 months ago...
We can definitely afford it, but would not save as much money and don’t have much savings as it is. Being skeptical about moving out together, is a sign to her that I am uncommitted at this point of our relationship. It’s a tough decision to make.

Oh my goodness, I'm currently at point 7 and it's really hurting me deep down. I made a decision on job transition from private sector enterprise to government sector. The hard reality now is I was earnings more in the private than in the government and this is affecting my performance at work.
