I’ve waited for this for years. When I was a young Mario fanboy myself. I used to wonder what a animated Mario movie would look like. And now. I couldn’t be happier.
So happy to see Peach not act like a damsel in distress in this movie as the only reason she was even captured back in the first game was because she was the only one who could defeat bowser.
No, her MAGIC could defeat Bowser. This comment section is full of Mario nerds so I'm geeking out.
Also, It was established that Bowser had a crush on her sense they were babies.
@@TheKoopaKingBowser Ah yeah, I forgot it was the Magic and not her ass-whooping abilities. Idk why they shifted her character to a damsel-in-distress always needing help at every moment even though she can just us her magic.
Peach not being a damsel in distress was great & refreshing, but I was very disappointed that Luigi was pushed into the sidelines because he was captured.
@@watchawant3781 I mean there kinda would be no real driving factor of the film if they didn't do that plus we probably wouldn't have gotten the flashback sequences when Mario and Luigi were younger.
@@mir8clegaming896yeah sure but did they really need to have luigi do nothing for the whole movie? they could have put him in jail and have him interact more with the others and maybe try to escape, or maybe not even put him in jail and have him run around getting to know a bit about the shadow lands, since Mario and Peach didn't know he was capture, only that he was in Bowser's territory. he could have been captured close to the ending so that he meets Mario there but anyways having Luigi be non-existant was a bad choice imo.

Totally agree. My first viewing I could barely even focus on anything because I was just totally overwhelmed by it all, but the second time it all came together really nicely. Obviously it's not a cinematic masterpiece or anything, but as a Mario Movie, I think it's really fantasic. The spirit of the games is kept and the world is expanded in interesting ways, which is all I could ask for. Really excited to see what happenes next. Would love for the sequel to be Galaxy themed!
This movie was so good I can't wait till an art book comes out. The style was cozy and bright the sound design was just peak. And the writing was so adorable I just like you am more mad that it was so short. I hope there's a second one 100% this was just the dumb fun that's needed so much more

@GetMadz you're so right it is much more. Honestly, TH-cam comments are not long enough for me to rant about how amazing everything is, so having that child like, cleverly nostalgic fun is the best way for me to explain such a well thought out movie!
The amount of work you put into this review is insane, man. Seeing so many movie moments in your artstyle was such a treat, too. I'll have to watch this video 4 more times to appreciate it further.
I hope we can get spin-offs for characters like Luigi and DK in addition to the inevitable sequel, because I ADORED the obvious Luigi’s Mansion inspiration in the Darklands and the Kong kingdom
I live in Japan and I am actually on the local train going to the big city to see it for my 5th time in the cinema right now😅 We didn't get Mario until last week though so the release is still very new here. It's a wonderful movie!❤🍄🎮

I love how Luigi does the parkour in the movie first try, and Mario has to spend a whole day constantly practising to get it right (and he doesn't even finish the stage💀)

I would want FOUR Mario Movies. The first one as it is, the second meeting Daisy and Yoshi (Maybe Daisy being an environmentalist taking care of Yoshi Island), the third being a Luigi Mansion movie because he needs all the screen time, and the fourth being a Galaxy movie! I hope we at least get three movies though,

I think the reason we can get over the flaws is becuase in context, as in the creative aide, the flaws make sense- they were choices made with a goal, that may mot work for everyone, but accepting that makes it a fun experience :)
The movie was certainly not without its flaws, but I had a great time with it. Mario is my Mickey Mouse. He's the guy. So I had a big stupid grin on my face the whole time looking at the visual and audio references. My favorite thing about it is how it kind of merges all the disparate elements of Mario's world throughout the years into one, creating a veritable fountain of creative potential. I love this version of the Mushroom Kingdom (and adjacent areas). The Jungle Kingdom was my favorite part, in large part due to the clever pun that essentially composes that entire section of the movie. The reason the Kongs are in charge of MarioKart is that they're literal grease monkeys. Absolute genius.
My favourite part about hte movie was the music. Almost every peice of music ( apart from the licensed songs ) is a completely new rendition of a famous theme from various games, old and new.
The musical choices ( both songs and OST) was the only thing more generic and bland than the script. Honestly both could've been made by an ai.

As for the movie itself, yea it was a ton of fun and I enjoyed watching it. Its one of the few movies I've bothered to watch more than once in theaters.
I don't even live in the USA, I also loved the scenes in Brooklyn, but for a completely different reason: it reminded me of the Super Show.
Bro thought he could put a Swordplay Showdown sound effect at the very beginning and act like I wouldn't notice it.

You could say this movie can really make a guy come out of his shell
Bowser gets bigger after the credits, from 2/3 of a toad head to 4/3 of one
I remember going to the theater and dressing up as Mario and finding others who dressed up as other Mario characters and just vibing for a bit. This movie certainly moved me and I can’t wait to get a physical copy when it releases!

I totally agree with that end message especially because watching this movie with my brother who played everything Mario related I’ve ever played right at my side was the greatest part of the whole experience. Locking eyes with him every time the two of us noticed something we recognized from the games was just awesome and it made me love the movie that much more🤙

So sorry if this might be a bit of a sensitive topic, but I couldn't help but be curious as too why in some bits where you refer to the person you went with (such as 5:36) the screen has that effect and your voice is cut before mentioning her, as well as in 14:32 where the screen has the same effect and that sort of depressed tone, and so I'm just curious as to why it's edited in that way and if it's actually a sensitive topic
My guess would be that some sort of a brake up or a connection cut with that person happened, or god forbid a life threatening situation involving that same person
Either way, I do wish for you to feel better ♥️ (if it does have to do with something bad)
Also a bit of a speculation, but the pinned comment by "PrincessSwagatha", which has a pink hair similar to the one girl in the video, which makes me guess it can be the same person, which I'm hoping is true and therefore confirms the cause of the editing doesn't have to do with a baddy
I watched the movie with my mom last week and she used to play the games so me and her pin pointed each Easter egg. I had a fun time.

I get what you mean. i never knew the plot fold but character development really changes. and i hoped everyone got equal screentime. I Was so pumped to see all my favorite characters play a major rule in the movie and wonder will they ever open up their backstory. Ive waited my whole life waiting for this moment when i first saw my idol i was Blown away to see all their designs. All of the scenes really were cool, and hoping the second movie will do just more to the script, story, designs, easter eggs, and more interactions. Spoilers at the end of this commet: (i hope yoshi will fight alongside the bros)
