It makes me sick that my husband and I have been almost anywhere and everywhere but we never got there. But all my gosh do not miss Hurricane Mills keep your windows open when you drive through the first area of their driveway oh my God the Mountain Air was something I've never smelled anywhere except upstate New York. Oh thank you thank you for sharing all of this. God bless you both stay safe on your drives everywhere.

My mom is 90 yrs old, and Loretta's life is very similar to hers. My grandpa was a coal miner in KY, there were 12 kids in the family, and eventually our family moved to Indiana. My uncle did not want to work in coal mines! I remember when mom saw the movie the first time, it brought tears to her eyes.

My family is from Hindman they lived there for years until my grandfather heard about ROCKWELL company in Ohio. That plant is no longer there.

Few years back, me and my family had the opportunity to visit butcher holler. Hermenetta, Herman's daughter was our tour guide at the homestead and she did a wonderful job. We even got to meet Herman, which is Loretta's brother, but now has passed. Every little detail at the home was extremely sentimental and we so much enjoyed the visit. BTW, WHILE THERE, ME AND MY FAMILY NOTICED A COUPLE PICTURES INSIDE OF THE HOME OF OUR UNCLE LARRY SPARKS, THE BLUEGRASS SINGER. HE IS OUR MOM'S BABY BROTHER. MADE US PROUD TO SEE HIS PIC THERE. ❤️

My Daughter went to Bristol TN to collage we traveled a few of those small roads and the countryside was beautiful and had very nice areas and homes. My wife and I visited the Ranch at Hurricane Mills and traveled a few of those same small roads and just enjoyed a drive through the countryside.
My husband lived in Loretta Lynn’s house when he was a kid!!!!! And he used to catch the school bus at the old general store where the owner used to buy him a soda.

I'm from West Virginia and so the scenery is exactly the same as in my neck of the woods. In fact, Loretta's homeplace looks like the house my grandmother lived in when I was a child. Maw Maw, as folks in this area most often call their grandmothers, carried water from a well and had an outhouse too. A miner's life was a hard one back then.

Wow this brings back so many memories. I've been to Butcher Holler many times but not since the 80's with my parents and grandparents. I'm so glad they opened the house up for tours, you couldn't go inside back then. Also back then the road was all gravel and the store was still run by Herman Webb( Loretta's brother and I guess your tour guides dad?). He was such a nice man and talked to my family like he knew us all our lives. Also up on the hill by the house is the family cemetery where a lot of her family is buried. In the movie Dew takes a bulldozer up the mountain and clears a path. It's amazing how Loretta and Crystal became so famous from such a small place. It reminds me of the Partons and their upbringing. It just goes to show anyone can make it with a dream and determination. Thanks for another amazing video!
this house reminds me of how I grew up and let me tell you toting water for washing is no joke ya'll. the ironic thing is I was born in the 60's. Time seems to go slow in the mountains. progress comes in inches.

On wash day we packed buckets of water from our hand dug well about 100 feet to fill up two three bushel wash tubs for the old Maytag winger washing machine, no cloths dryer just good clothes line to hang the washed clothes on. I remember doing this as a child 1960. The sad thing is none of us thought of hanging on to any old things at the time was there was plenty of it around and not worth keeping. I live in Pike county Kentucky and music plays a big role here in your life.

Thank you for this wonderful video. My Mother, daughter and I went to Butcher Holler to visit Loretta's family homeplace in 1988. I was born and raised in Clay County KY and it was quite a long drive to Van Lear. Herman Webb, Loretta's brother and Connie's father, saw us going up the holler and he jumped in his truck and followed us. Herman was kind enough to unlock the cabin door and take us on a little tour. We saw all those wonderful old pieces of furniture and the old family pictures. He talked about his parents, Ted and Clarie, and his brothers and sisters. He told us a few family stories. We enjoyed the visit and we were so grateful to Herman. After our visit was over and we got ready to leave, I saw that we had a flat tire on our car. Thankfully Herman was gracious enough to change our flat tire for us....it was either that or he'd have to keep us all night. LOL I will never forget what a fine man Herman was. RIP Herman Webb.

RIP Loretta, so many people were touched by you, integrity of an everyday girl. Her sister was very blessed also. I did not know that loretta and crystal were siblings. Love their voices and music, smooth, kinda relaxing to hear womens voices that have comforting softness,yet calming effect. Womens voices calm a dude down,unless they are being an idiot.

I remember when radilos were that big! I loved the glow from the dial and, as a child, sat infront of it listening to school closures from snow!! Progress isn't always good, a simpler time is what memories are made of!

Crystal didn't grow up like Loretta did, they moved when she was younger.
Me and my friend went there in 2006, and it was such a personal experience. When we went, there was nobody at the house selling tickets for the tour. You had to stop at Webb's General Store, and the Clerk there would call up Loretta's brother who lived across from the old home place. He'd meet you at the house and show you around, explaining every item, in detail, just as his daughter did in this video. I imagine he's too elderly to handle the tours anymore (or perhaps he's passed on, as he was up in age when I met him). Unlike most tours like this, you aren't rushed. You can take your time and ask questions and feel a special connection with Loretta through her relatives. It's a great experience I highly recommend!

My great grandma is Loretta Lynn's cousin, on the Webb side. My mom was born in Paintsville at the same little hospital that Crystal Gale was. I miss visiting Kentucky as a kid, it was so much fun for a city kid like me to let loose and run😊

I live about 10 miles from there. I been there more times than I can count. But it's just not the same since Herman left us. If yoh can you need to go to her house in Tennessee.
I live in Ky and have been there...met her brother that use to do the tour and now another family member does them. The store, the home and all around takes you back in time! We seen her in person in Renfro Valley and she signed an autograph to my dad (he passed away 2012) but I hold that near and dear to my heart! I’m so pleased to be a part of there and with her family! It is awesome!! Thank you for sharing your experience!!!

My grandfather and father lived in a small mining town in Tennessee. One room shack where they owed their soul to the company store just like everyone else. I’m so grateful my dad chose to get out and I grew up in Florida and now in Atlanta. People don’t understand what these people truly lived through and dealt with. It was extreme poverty. It’s not quaint or cute. It was starvation, abuse and death.
conditions were terrible in the early yrs . lots of miners died young of black lung disease . lots of mining companies abused their employees . wages were poor in those yrs. not like now mines pay good wages for the most part now days
My dad lost his dad and siblings all to black lung. It was bad, this was back in the 30’s-40’s. It was really bad but I have seen some reports of the changes in safety and wages thank god.

I saw so many things in this video I haven’t seen since I was a kid. My momma is 78, I’m 48 and momma’s momma had a bunch of items like the radio, washing machine, fan (momma still has the fan and the irons she used to iron her school uniform with).
It’s so neat to see the history of a family.
My momma was born in Oscar Louisiana... on the kitchen table of the doctor they crop shared for.
I was born in New Orleans Louisiana and spent summers in “the country” (Pierre Pierre, Donaldsonville.... etc) and watched the great uncles hunt, fish etc...

Wow. So cool. My husband will be 50 and was born in New orleans. I was born and raised in wisconsin but I know the feeling of seeing things that my grandparents kept when my mom and her siblings were growing up. Even the outhouse, I used to use it when I was small. I am 38 now and I am glad I got to see this video. I was brought up listening to lorretta and crystal and others. It is always nice to see that artists really did understand the struggles that came along with working to achieve the dreams they wanted to reach.

My Dad born in Shreveport, Mama born in Memphis, they met in Los Angeles, had me, and named me Crystal Gayle. My Grandma life is like Loretta's to the tee . Can't watch the movie no more, it's too painful, it reminds me of my beloved Granny, booby, I'll love you forever. 1937-2014.
People really took care of their items then. Would pass items down from generation to generation.

I was born about 2 hours away from Kentucky the town is called Grundy VA it's a old coal mining town too. My Mother and Loretta meet and sang christian music together at WNRG in Grundy I was 8 years old it's been that long guys!! Loretta had beautiful long black hair back n the days my grandfather had an old general store in Grundy the building is actually still standing. It was called Hurleys Grocery!! You guys have a safe trip back to Tennessee that's were I live now.... I've lived here in Tennessee since 1985 and love it God Bless!

This video was awesome. My Daddy and Mama had 4 country grocery stores over the years. I really do miss them and the old timey way to shop. I worked in them from the time I was 9. I remember when a long loaf of bread was. 25 cents and a bottle of pop was 05 cents and 10lbs of potatoes was 25 cents. I could get An 8lb sirloin tip roast for $5. That was after I married. Those were the days, my friends, those were the days. I'm 70 now and it all seems like a dream. If only we could go back. Holy shit! I honestly felt like that was my home. No joke. I was raised in a house almost like that, along with an outhouse. Except we had electricity. No in door bathroom. Had to go out and get wood to keep us warm. No wash boards... My mom went to the laundry mat. But I honestly felt like it was the house that I was raised in.
I didnt really care for Loretta Lynns music growing up. It was old and stuff (being a teen) but since my mama passed away 3 years ago, ive been listening to her music and crying cause I always think about my mom singing to her songs.
I also grew up like that. I'm from Ky. and we didn't have running water or a furnace. I remember my Mom cooking on a wood stove. We did have electric though. By the time I left home they had modernized it all the way, but those memories stick with you forever.
One of my earliest memories was getting a tour of this house when I was a little girl. In the 80s. I think my grandpa ran into a relative at the store nearby & they offered a tour. I just remember all the pictures on the wall. Just like in this video. Awesome. Hasn't changed from what I remember. Good memories with my sweet grandpa :(

I have always been a fan of Loritta Lynn. Few years back going through TN to get to our daughters wedding we stopped stopped at a small town. Had know idea where we were, it was very late and very tired. Only hotel in town had one room left. Noticed the cafe next door and it said Loretta cafe. To my surprise we were in Hurrican, TN and down the road was Loretta Lynn's mansion. Unfortunately we were not able to tour but what an exciting find..so close and yet so far away in hoping to see her. Just thought I would share.
Just went a couple of weeks before she past, I don’t know why we never went before, living so close. I love Loretta

thats not how Loretta told the story of Crystal getting her name, when she was born Loretta said she wanted to name her, although her given name is Brenda, Loretta always looked after her and she had her and said your eyes sparkle like Crystals now I am going to call you Crystal because mama said I can name you but she always went by Brenda but not when Loretta was around and yes the record company said we already have a Brenda ( Lee ) and yes Loretta said then you are my baby sister Crystal...that`s how Loretta told it, now I am confused...

I've been to Loretta's ranch Hurricane Mills before , but I've never been to her childhood home in Kentucky ( Butcher Holler ) . I'd love to go see it in person someday , but at least I get to see your video . Very easy to relate to. My father grew up in similar manner in southern OH. No electricity or indoor plumbing. The well and outhouse nearby. Oil lamps for light, wood stove for heat and cooking, food cellar under the house.
My grandfather was a mule skinner in the coal mines near Cambridge, OH. Rural life back then was all about hard work, survival, and church on Sunday.

Wow , so crystal gayle was named after a burger restaurant. That's incredible. Very heartwarming to see this all after growing up hearing crystal and Loretta's music. I'm glad they become successful after living through those times.
Looking at the childhood home of Loretta Lynn, puts a smile on my face. The washtub hanging out beside the door reminds me of my grandparents house, after the was was finished one of us would be called to come and hang the tub up. So little but, good memories.

Coal Miners Daughter is still one of my favorite movies. I was raised in coal country so I could relate in many ways to how life was in these small towns. The fair grounds in the movie was where I was raised. That was a traveling fair by James H. Drew Expeditions which would travel from town to town to set up the fair for a week. We use to look forward to the yearly fair to come. The guy in the movie who won the auction for the pie Loretta made was my school bus driver when I was in school. His sister taught me and my brother piano lessons at her home. I just adore the movie of Lorettas life and have watched it many times through the years.

My family is from Vanleer and auxier Kentucky but most live in Paintsville and Prestonsburg Kentucky now but we go back for family reunions and such and its like going back in time or to another world. I love it there. I still live in Kentucky just a different part which is Greenup. I love Kentucky a lot of it is so rural, peaceful, and beautiful.

Looks like our county after the mines shut down, just a ghost town. Love, love Loretta Lynn, loved the movie about her and Sissy Spacek done a terrific job playing her. Rural here mean's no man's land. That yellow guitar is a Gretch. My grandma had one just like it. What's with all the writing on the walls? That old long tub hanging on the house, I took a many a baths in one just like it. I live in West Virginia.
I know she is amazing. We had 8 siblings in our family, my father had 3 jobs to feed us and clothed us. His main job was delivering furniture. He died and is in the National Cemetary in Bourne, MA along with my mother.

I am a HUGE Loretta Lynn fan and I just appreciate the detail. You allow the tour guide to speak and your volume was clear. I also appreciated that you showed the Holler signage and such.

we grew up with a small neighboorhood store( not as big) and I will NEVER forget the excitement of taking 25 cents to the store, and walking out the door with a little brown paper sack full of bubblegum and candy! And I was born in 70’s! So different now, no longer many old grocery store where they still slice a pound of luncheonmeat, or pickleloaf wrap it in the white paper, for you, or slice pound of “ round cheese!” Only two left in a 30 mile radius! Still love seeing videos like this! Reminds me of growing up!

I grew up like Loretta's home life. Only it was the 60's thru 70's until we got running water too the farm house we owned in later 70's I think around 74'! Now I'm going to be turning 60..WOW, Awesome too see.

This is amazing. My mother grew up in Elchorn City kentucky so this reminds me a lot of my mothers stories.

Love this one especially my mother was a daughter of a coal miner (my grandfather) in Kentucky too. That's why I always loved Loretta Lynn and of course her music! I have to go see this place thank you for sharing!

Crazy Granny my dad is the son of a coal miner. My grandpa owned his own little mine, was a magistrate of the county and was a preacher. East southern Kentucky. Oh the times back then. I am 47. He past away when I was around seven or so. Heart problems. I believe it was heartattack that got him. He helped build the hollow where he and grandma lived and then later where I and my family lived. Some of my kin still live up that hollow. Me and my own family have since moved out of Kentucky.
AMY’S TRAVELS & VLOGS my fathers dad (my grandfather)died in the coal mines in KY my dad was 7 years old the mine collapsed on him never got to meet my grandfather but of course I met my mother's dad but later on after my grandfather retired he passes away from black lung😞 A lot of my kin still live in KY. Mom dad never wanted to work in the mines he moved to Cleveland Ohio when he was 17 got a job working for GM.
Ilove read all about this I went to visit her home place and in joy it I am going to visit her places that she has now I would like to see her Ism 87 years old

It is so nice to see the same pictures in my house that are there on the wall. My grandfather was her dad's brother. Very exciting to see the same photos. She sang at my grandma's funeral in Guin Alabama

I haven't been to the original house but I have been to the ranch and it looks exactly like it. You will have to go to the ranch it is a beautiful place.She has a museum there a post office,a replica of the coal mine her dad worked in. The river is a beautiful place to take pictures.

My step dad took me to coal miners daughter 5 nights in a row. Last time i went to see her.. She had fallen and was recovering in Tennessee. Her ranch is worth the visit. This lady is amazing.
