We have adopted some new strategies to combat mosquitos, but they might be winning the battle. We’re outnumbered for sure, and they have determination written into their DNA. Thanks for watching!
Very beautiful video. I plan to do this same trip in 2 months from today in my 2020 Honda Accord Hybrid. I need to get a. extra spare tire, air compressor, tire patch kits, and drive slow as you guys did. I plan to sleep in my car and plan to take 4 days to do the round trip. Dawson City to Tuk to Dawson City. I will make a blog on the internet about the road trip. I will do the Dalton Highway first before doing the Dempster Highway. I leave for my 30-day road trip in 2 months from today.
I would also suggest a couple of the windshield chip repair kits. You can get them from NAPA auto stores for around $12 to $15 each, and if you fix the rock chip quickly, it won't spread. They work so well that you can't even tell that there was a chip. We used 3 or 4 of them in 18,000 miles. Good luck on your trip. You'll have a great time!
Road conditions on the Dempster were actually very good. We drove slow... Actually we were the slowest people on the road (other than bicycles). That reduced dust, saved tires, windshields, and paint chips, and gas. We saw more scenery going slowly, too. There were a few locations with washboards conditions, but generally it was well graded and maintained. The Alaska Highway Department could learn a lot from Yukon and NWT road crews. The Dalton Highway up to Dead horse was in much, much worse condition.
Yes, mosquitos are everywhere, they were big, 🦟 and there were swarms of them. We used netted jackets with full-zip hoods, DEET bug spray, and a device called a Thermacell. The Thermacell was useful inside the van to keep them from entering while we were going in and out in the evenings and mornings. We turned it off when we were situated and in for the evening. We still ended up with a lot if bites, but it was mostly livable.
No, front wheel drive only. But we did a couple modifications that really mattered. One was installing a lift kit that added an additional 3-1/2 inches, and another was to install really good light truck tires.

Is your Sienna an AWD ?
