"From American Football's self-titled full-length album"
Yeah, but which one?
Michael Stuart the one titled americ anfootball
@@julianoseguera5887 americ anfootball?
Monkey D Berzerk yes
@@monke8949 yes
kinda was the only LP they had at the time of playing, but also an EP of the same name, now they have a total of 3 LPs and 2 EPs
i actually cried listening to this once
and to the studio version
and to the unplugged version
yeah okay
+Heitor Martins ineluctably.
i cried when i saw them play this live on their reunion tour in chicago ;)
What about the Owen version?
@@inflago dude. that's gotta be fuckin horrible hahahaha
damn don't make me cry.
Turns out all that emotional weight on your shoulders gives emo boys poor posture
Ovenman940 I stand like this almost permanently and it's totally ruined my back, because of my anxiety. I'm only 17 too
HAHA
*tear*
I don't know man, Telecasters and Jaguar's are pretty heavy guitars...
@@Mynamesnotblaidd ain't that the truth
Lol it took fifteen years for there to be enough love for American Football to have the opportunity to tour again. Sickeningly sweet. They should keep touring and making music.
Djnation8248 a bittersweet tale
You're in luck buddy
Actually they never toured since this reunion. The First LP was recorded and they splitted
And now they’ve claimed their rightful place at the emo pantheon lol
dang the drummer can really dig into a beat
mike Kinsella
ummm..
+SchizoidMan5 lmao person didn't know so I confuse them
Steve Lamos
steve lamos is a genius
Got into my dream college having used this song to audition with on drums. Also got over a past relationship using this song. To say it has a massively deep meaning to me would be an understatement. Thank you American Football
What college requires an audition
@@strandedmind9540 Probably most practical music courses in uni/college.
@@strandedmind9540 Berklee definitely does. So does CCM
Man i got into my performing arts high school by playing this song on guitar! Love the drums on this track so much!
@@strandedmind9540 Pretty much every decent music program
they should do this every year like gathering of the juggalos- gathering of the emos
I second that!
oh my.... :)
cruhg funny thing is I hated the emo style. it's hard to peg bands like American Football and shit like AfI as the same genre. To me American Football is indy or alternative.
One reason it's hard to peg American Football and AFI as the same genre is because American Football and AFI are not the same genre.
Xavier Garnier because American Football is emo and Afi is not emo.
2:42 Best placed tambourine in the history of music
Never have I revered a tambourine more
His fucking voice has become so harsh and bad. I love it.
Well on his Owen records he sings a bit prettier than he does here. But yeah hes deff wasted and can't handle the higher notes like he could 15 years ago.
Well it's still whiny as it was back in cap'n'jazz.god bless them.
***** Because it's like talking to an ex girlfriend that you broke up with years ago. It brings back memories.
His voice has changed a lot. Listen to anything on the AF LP or EP then L'Ami du Peuple. You'll hear the difference.
t. papaccio This is live. Again live recordings are different, with less quality,it's even different on how it sounds in the rooms (acoustic of it). They're all different sounding, being in the concert, listening to an studio album or listening recorded live. Also maybe he had a sore throat.
Man, I just freaking love the 2:40 part. It's so addicting!
that part is just brilliant
My band played with AF in Champagne, IL in 99’. I was so amped to play with Mike Kinsella.
Our drummer who was normally rock solid forgot or played the wrong song altogether the entire set.
It ended with me throwing my bass at him. He looked at our guitar player and said, “I had an off night.”
Funny story now, but at the time I was furious.
The Instant Heroes Cast may we listen some of your music
Whats ur band name
whats your band called?

this was just so perfect it makes me want to cry

So emo lol
I love how his voice sounds here 👏
OVERRRRRLLLLLLYYYYYY
Dramatic
So let's just pretend
*_I just think it's beeeeeest_*
@@rhubarbdude3347 cause you can't miss what you forget
Guhhh the way the crowd sings the harmonies on "Overly dramatic" at 2:33... absolutely haunting!
I think it’s beautiful that, no matter if you’re an American Football fan or not, everyone gets excited when they hear the intro to Never Meant.
On a similar note, I think it's beautiful that a picture of half a house can hold so much meaning for so many people, and you don't even need to be a big fan to appreciate it.
Im At 18 Y.o And This Song Saved My Youth And Anxiety :),Thanks Americ Anfootball You're always Be A Father Of Emo...
Even more goose bump-inducing than the album version. This reunion tour has been an incredible gift to anyone who has ever had the pleasure of listening to American Football and been sad that we would likely never get the chance to see you guys live.
My words exactly. American Football rules!
Yeah i got mad goosebumps listening to this.
Almost like the hyper-appreciation thats reminiscent of MDMA experiences ive had. Powerfully emotional music
Man those drums sound amazing
How much those 2 tambourine man were paid?
$1 per eighth note.
They're usually members of the opening band
Daniel Inskeep lmao
Considering one of them is Evan (Into it, Over it), probably nothing. The chance to play with AF is gold enough
I'd pay just to perform with them.
When I feel depressed, I like listening to that song. Then I feel more depressed and happy and hopeful at the same Time. Then when the song ends, I feel depressed so I just play it over and over.....
instrumentation is so good its so close to the studio recording
his voice sounds raspy... this is actually better
This is several different show's clips put together. Their shirts keep changing
+trainspotted11 good call
Nah I think they're magic
I'm fine with this being their only album. It maintains a certain purity
+stinky apparently they're going to make a new album.............
Ever heard their EP?
i use that cat picture as my wallpaper!
rip purity i guess
New album anounced kek
Pure magic.
The vibes of this emotional sadness is like when your girlfriend won't allow you to go to this american football gig. But you sneak out and when you arrived, you saw her with a different guy. ~
So excited for thier first show in England
not to be overly dramatic but im crying on the floor rn
I would like this 10,000 times if it were possible.
My favorite is when guitars go like this

True
such a banger
i spit and i spit and i cannot maintain clean; she escapes me, as always, ever was, autumn, and april, together, as one, remain.
what is this
acle I'm 12 and what is this
Just imagine all the shows that could have been film baxk in the 90's if we had the high quality affordable cameras we do now back then 🤔
2 decades later. I'm not crying, you're crying.
i feel so lucky, this show it was my first listen of american football. i loved it so much i went to the second date as well. i've been chasing that feeling ever since
A m e r i c a n f u ß b a l l
Best guitar lick known to Man.
I am an overly emotional guy I guess I belong here. This is fantastic regardless.
+Taylor Schmude me too
I just gave up on trying to pretend I didn't like this band
This is so magical that his shirt changes color 2:27 / 2:38
amazing :']
Swear to god I watched this like 10 times and just now I’m realizing mike is wearing two different shirts
I don’t really care about the emo tag and all the connotations it comes with.. this is a perfect song. It’s a song I play when I think of a specific person and as impossible as our situation is I know she listens to this same song with the same intention and for me that’s the truest sense of love.
Great band.
man this comment hits hard. One time, one person. I listen to it the same as I'm sure they still do
nothing wrong with emo, you're being overly dramatic.
@@fawnrot not be overly dramatic(overlyyyy)
thank God this band exists
2:33 THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL
american football always reminds me of the iron giant.. (the movie)
Why ?
Now you said that, i kinda feel the same too. Maybe the feel of small midwestern city kinda resonate with the movie.
Oh wow that's weirdly true
I wish I could relive this concert because it was awesome I really hope I get to see American football again but in Chicago this time
outstanding shaker performance
No friggin cell phones all over the place, woah!!!
Lol
+Alberto Alberto Alb
summoning 1999 here, folks
+Alberto Alberto Alb bitch please. 01:56
I went to the show coming from Chicago and I could tell you the reason that is is because we were all too busy singing along and literally not wanting to lose one precious second of this moment that we all wanted to hear American football perform live in micase I spent half my life just looking forward to that
i was there and im 23
I've just find out about this band. Such a great music! Unspoiled.
0:46 you can't unhear that
I hate u so much rn
I went into the comment section just to ask if anyone else noticed the wrong note there.
heheh they were a lil rusty ngl
Does anyone else find how high the drummer sits odd?
Yeah, when I saw them at pymalion fest I thought he was standing up for the longest time. I just assumed he was really tall when I realized he was sitting.
Jonathan Trevino
haha yeah, its not even that hes too high, hes too high AND his kit is too low hahaha
Gavin Oswald
easier to drum with a lower kit m8. less extending necessary
Steven Andrikopoulos
thats true, but this is a little extreme lol
Gavin Oswald
haha yeah you're right. He may abnormally long limbs considering even at this elevation his elbows are bent almost 90
3:47 Lol Evan Weiss on the Tambourine
2021 and still Midwest-Emo 🖤
That "OOOOVERLYYYY" really make me cry
I love how Steve is always 1000% grooving when he's on the kit. He's a fucking champ.
Did Mike get that shirt off Evan Weiss or what?
This gave me chills. I love seeing and hearing a crowd appreciate a gem like this as much as I do.
Was that Evan Weiss of Into it. Over it. on the tambourine part??
+jimjoguila hell yes it was
Fucking fuck. That was great.
+Preston Justice Yeah, it was really amazing.
Awesome band, chill
Sounds like T O E from Japan.
When they hit the “not to be overly dramatic”, damn. Always gets me
watching this in 2024. amazing performance
Let's just forget
Everything said
And everything we did
Best friends and better halves
Goodbyes
And the autumn night
When we realized
We were falling out of love
There were some things
That were said
That weren't meant
There were some things
That were said
That weren't meant
There were some things
That were said
That weren't meant
There were some things
That were said

There were some things
That were said

There were some things
That were said
That weren't meant
There were some things
That were said
But we never did
Not to be
Overly
Dramatic
I just think it's best
'Cause you can't miss what you forget
So let's just pretend
Everything and
Anything between you and me
Was never meant
I wish I could hear this for the first time again
Every time i hear this song its like the first time, makes me feel alive
I'll do it for you. I just did a Spotify radio with Modest Mouse, Brand New, Lydia, La Dispute and the like. I am just hearing this song for the first time tonight. Incredible. I keep repeating it. It's exactly what I was hoping to find. Be well!
wanna talk about a band that makes me want to stack glass cups 14 feet high, while throwing ninja stars at sharks
I love the tambourines on this song
the height the drummer is sitting at stresses me haha
**Crying in American**
american footbal in argentina please!!!
Uf que Mike te oiga D:
Dixit Dominus si viene ahora city and colours quien te dice q en algun momento vengan o owen!!
noooo que envidiaaaa!!! subi algun video por favor!!! y otra cosa,q onda glasgow, voy a ir este año
aguante loco!! suerte ahi!
todavia seguimos esperando amigo
...And the floors are flooded with tears.
I peep Evan Weiss from IIOI at 3:49
This is better than the original imo
Great drumming!
"there were some things that were said that weren't meant" could mean bad things said in moments of anger or could mean all the empty words of love from the relationship. Really great line.
wish i was there
For a moment, NY was also part of the Midwest.
*This is not your Emo Days, This is Your Dad's/Mom's Emo Days.*
I just started listening to these guys hopefully they tour again some time in the future
Absolutely fantastic! Got to be one of the best videos on TH-cam.
Holy shit! its Evan Wiess @3:48
I would've driven to ny for this
Their music is just so comforting and beautiful in so many ways :)
That ending… God.
Sounds a lot like Jimmy Eat World.
No way
+Joel Foreman yeah mike and co were in a lot of the bands that helped define JEWs early sound
damn, i've always cry everytime hear this song
that ending could've been in the recorded versionnnnnn
American Football | Sold Out | 10/10 (I mean of course they are)
Does that flannel still have the tag on it? Or is that part of the shirt?
Best concert I have ever seen. Please never stop playing, even if it's just now and then.
the amount of guys with beanies and thick brim glasses in the crowd is funny
This would be a dream ♥️
I found this video today after a friend tagged me in it and asked me if that was me @:10 with that sworn in hoodie haha that’s so sick. Ahh I used to love American football!! I haven’t heard much of them though lately.. but it’s awesome nostalgia! Can anyone tell me who else was on this bill?!
Me
saw this years ago wishing I could see them live someday. next year that wish will come true and I couldn’t be happier, life is great
edit 6 months later: best night of my life, I love them so much
Asking a mythological creature to resurface for a night and be every bit of itself...I think they did an amazing job. What kind of pressure is that?
I think I first heard this song 18 years ago, and I swear each time I listen to it, it gets better. I don't know if it will ever get better than this version though, with the crowd echoing "overly" before the song speeds up. Only thing that would beat it is if they come to Australia.
i really really hope they play this when they come to australia
I just wanna cry man...
I've been there dude. Like Winston Churchill once said "If you're going through hell, keep going."
