saw them recently and they had a whole interactive screen type thing, that showed it at different angles, and times of day, with someone walking up to the front door.. it was incredible
honestly as a musician, i think the simple bass is on purpose. The guitars are already pretty complicated, adding complexity to the bassline would only make the songs too busy in my opinion, thus, removing them atmosphere.
Vape Naysh I agree. The bassist for Minus the Bear talks about how his signal chain and riffs are pretty boring in comparison to the guitars. But it holds up the other parts and makes the musical direction feel more natural.
I'm so sad I never got to see them live considering how young I was at the time. I would watch these in my room when I was 12 and just be so mesmerized by their performance. So beautiful coordinated and perfect. Thank you American football❤
You haven't missed them. Lamos has technically left the band, and Mike + Nate are focusing on LIES and Owen, but they're touring the UK in July and playing a US festival in August. Lamos is on those UK shows too, so it's quite possible the full band will be back after the new Owen album. Maybe even before. I would love to see them come back to Australia, as they didn't do an LP3 tour here. We live in hope.
@Osidius Emphatic after commenting I did lots and lots and lots of research and learned all this but thanks so much :) I plan on getting tickets for their show in August cause man I've been listening to them since 2013 so this would be awesome
I completely missed out on the chance to see these dudes live, but thank you for putting some of these performances up for people to see. This was definitely one of my all time favorite AF songs. Hope I get the chance to see them live someday soon.
+Lieutenant Mustache Yeah, this recording is amazing. The vocals, the basslines (new, by the way), the passion and the audience enthusiasm. It's really something powerful.
+Lieutenant Mustache i was here i went from chicago to new york when i heard they were doing the reunion. i didnt think they were going to stay longer than the first three shows they originally announced
Four Elements Fantastic vocals. I don't think anyone should expect the vocals to be as they are on the album. Age has been kind to Mike, but his voice has still changed.
yeah of course but i guess i meant to word it differently. i actually prefer the way it sounds now with the distortion on the lead and his older raspier voice
+Four Elements If you like his voice here you should really check out his solo stuff, under the name Owen. L'ami Du Peuple is his most recent LP and his voice is incredible there.
Great! Still love this stuff since I found it several years ago (better late than never). I really liked how The One with the Wurlitzer followed Stay Home here. Very seamless.
So awesome. Just noticed (after watching this for about the tenth time) that this video splices in footage from another AF concert--check for different outfits on the band.
God Bless!!!! This audio mix sounds amazing and the video is outstanding! The band is pretty okay too. ;) One of my favorite AF songs. Biggie ups to all involved!
Listened to this so many times and i've only just noticed how much louder steve's guitar is compared to mike's, don't know how much less i love it and it might be a drawback but kinda brings a diy vibe to it still.
Acording to Equipboard, Mike uses a Fender Twin Reverb, but if you want to nail that clean tone any Fender amp will do, I just recommend you use a guitar with Single Coils 'cause Hums kinda saturate the amp but that's just me being picky, Cheers!
It is, cause the intro is played on two different timings, mike plays two 4/4 bars and two 3/4 bars while steve plays in 7/4 the whole time, then mike joins steve with 7/4 as he sings, and the repetitive trance-y playing of the song makes it harder too
it sounds like this was recorded live from the board and then mixed in post? so maybe something got goofed there? there's unfortunately only a few shots with both guitar and drum in it during the intro, but it almost looks like he's on beat in the short clips. idk, it could actually just be a mistake. they ain't perfect :P
It sounds like that on the recording too. It's that the drum part doesn't completely sound like it lines up with the guitar part so it sounds like he's messing up when he really isnt
Me too, I tasted clouds and then saw you. I came back down and lost my view. I need this high to warp the truth. That deep inside me lies my youth. I can't take back time for what I lost. So here's a rhyme to cover costs.
I have never noticed how obvious the video is from two performances in the beginning until now! Mike is wearing two different shirts? Weird. This version might surpass the original to me either way. Tombstone lyrics.
The transition right into "the one with the wurlitzer" is amazing.
it's so smooth !!!!
THE ALBUM COVER PROJECTED ON THE WALL IN THE BACKGROUND GOOOOOD

"Stay Home"
-Scientists and Politicians in march 2020
everybody gangster till steve lamos starts trumpeting
Hahah, maximum feels. Nice pfp my guy. Greatest horror film ever made (neck and neck with Hereditary)
@@tylerross7640 "neck and neck" his sister certainly can't relate to that one 😭✋
@@madelineelizabeth8862 yikes 😳
The entrance a little after 2:55 is so powerful. I almost wish the actual album were mixed that way.
Jayse Seriously, that little bit of added grit from Mike's end sounds so damn good.
The floor is most definitely flooded with tears.
I like how this one was a soft moody tune in 1999, and is now an epic empowering song :)
good word to describe americ anfootball, moody over emo
@@clydesmith6850 emo !== moody??
When the horns come in at 8:00, it causes me physical pain how happy it makes me hearing it! Perfection.
I don't deserve how good this band are
One of my good friends introduced me to you.
I think I'm gonna stay here for awhile.
I introduced them to my close friends and they didn't like them
@@silokeobounpheng7245 u have good taste
this is just what "stay home" would sound like if it was on LP2
the transition hits my gut
This song is definitely better with a bass
Everything is better with a bass
I just wish it did more in the song. You'd think after 16 years they'd come up with more interesting parts for it.
honestly as a musician, i think the simple bass is on purpose.
But it holds up the other parts and makes the musical direction feel more natural.
its definitely too loud in the mix
una delle canzoni che mi ha cambiato la vita.
never bored repeat this song :(
that trumpet hits hard :(

Check out the shows on their Facebook page if you haven't. There's 4 or so of them soon.
OMFGUSERNAMETAKENWTF it’s a fucking amazing feeling seeing these guys live
Sam Verduzco agreed, Leeds 2019 for me... hearing stay home and the summer ends were the highlights and obv never meant
37 years later you upload this holy shit ass
? lol
Holy shit this sounds even better than the album version in my opinion (at least when the vocals kick in)
+Lieutenant Mustache Yeah, this recording is amazing. The vocals, the basslines (new, by the way), the passion and the audience enthusiasm. It's really something powerful.
+WithASideOfFries Yeah, that's Mike's cousin playing bass for them now. He didn't back when they recorded the album.
+Lieutenant Mustache i was here i went from chicago to new york when i heard they were doing the reunion. i didnt think they were going to stay longer than the first three shows they originally announced
I'm super pumped they announced they were coming to Seattle. I bought a ticket the second after I heard
it was actually mike on the bass in the album!!! hahaha
few songs hit me so much like this one
Anyone else find the vocals to be nothing like the album but sound just as good if not better?
Four Elements Fantastic vocals. I don't think anyone should expect the vocals to be as they are on the album. Age has been kind to Mike, but his voice has still changed.

notyoursavior78 there's comments of yours from eight years ago on a studio upload of this song!
one of the greatest live performances ever. the slight overdrive at 2:55 is nuts
So awesome. Just noticed (after watching this for about the tenth time) that this video splices in footage from another AF concert--check for different outfits on the band.
Mike's guitar looks so shiny and new.
***** his guitars got stolen iirc
purplepalm treeman damn he didn't find them? this shit happens entirely too often.
***** nope, ended up buying a new fender tele standard i believe
Alex Bundy his new guitar is a telesonic i think
This was unbelievable
lmao that quick Mike sip of beer
That was so beautiful
WE ARE ALL SEEING THEM AT FIRST AVENUE APRIL 29th!!!!!!! So excited!!
TH-cam will only let me like this once... wtf
So, so good.
An appropriate song for the current lockdown situation
Just awesome. I would love to see these guys live.
Beautiful :')
Incredible, can't wait to see them live next month!
this is a fantastic audio + video ! Huge congrats to polyvinyl and the band for putting this video together

0:17 for a split second we can see a couple, kissing. What else is better than a kiss in an Amfoot show, front row..
Probably my favourite album ending oat
alta leccion de trompeta para todo el mundo
I must be the only one absolutely in love with this performance. 😂😢
you are not, i've been watching it since it came out :D
It's awesome they added a bass part to this and all, I just wish he'd play more interesting parts for it.
i think it's better as a simple part
I might have already commented this but, it's just The One Without The Wurlitzer now
Really exquisite! ty
is it just me or are they playing quite a bit faster here than on the record?
they seem to do that now a days
great one,love it!!!!!!!!
but that's life, so social
Greetings from Brazil
AAAAA VOCALS ARE SO RAD HOLY SHIT
Holy shit the drumming being out of time kills this so much
its only in the intro
+Izak Ryssen Yea rest is really good :) It's just really frustrating the beginning is so awful
Viterkim
true. maybe they couldn't hear each other
+Viterkim eh it syncs back up p soon after the beginning its not that bad
ik it's so bad. i thought i was the only one that noticed it
holy shit; so many goosebumps!
feelings man..
Yes
i really really hope they get back together to do another tour some day
They broke up?
They had a reunion show?! I wouldv'e loved to have been able to see this live !
made2blaze They've been touring the whole world actually since last December or so.
Is there any footage from the show on the 10th?
fucking beautiful
Is it just me or did the one with the wirlitzer have a wurlitzer on the recorded version
The transition into "the one with the Wurlitzer" reminds me a bit of Night Windows of The weakerthans.....cannot get better than that!
Listened to this so many times and i've only just noticed how much louder steve's guitar is compared to mike's, don't know how much less i love it and it might be a drawback but kinda brings a diy vibe to it still.
Two people didn't stay home. So sad for them.
Stay Home takes on a new meaning in the covid 19 era.
cryin
7:36 I start to ascend
that's life, so so short...
the drummer has such a weird set up, so low! i thought he was standing up at first haha
+mongomeister 69 Ya he must of played jazz originally, I know a lot of jazz drummers who play with that low setup.
he did!! apparantly when the album was being written, he got into a lot of jazz, hence the odd time signatures too!
Anyone know what Fender amps they're using? That clean tone is heavenly.
Deluxe or Twin Reverb
+Ben Funk I was wondering the same thing. I think it's a Twin reverb or maybe pro reverb?
Acording to Equipboard, Mike uses a Fender Twin Reverb, but if you want to nail that clean tone any Fender amp will do, I just recommend you use a guitar with Single Coils 'cause Hums kinda saturate the amp but that's just me being picky, Cheers!
Cool thanks for the info! Yeah, definitely need a tele for that tone!
+Nothing Head you're definitely right. if you're going for a clean tone, don't use humbuckers
❤️❤️
i feel like this would be very difficult to perform instrumentally.
It is, cause the intro is played on two different timings, mike plays two 4/4 bars and two 3/4 bars while steve plays in 7/4 the whole time, then mike joins steve with 7/4 as he sings, and the repetitive trance-y playing of the song makes it harder too
is that drummer dragging?
I think at the start he is all over the place, but when he starts that groove he holds it down.
yeah true true
the guitarist fucks up at around 40 secs. i thought the drummer was dragging too the first time i listened.
it sounds like this was recorded live from the board and then mixed in post? so maybe something got goofed there? there's unfortunately only a few shots with both guitar and drum in it during the intro, but it almost looks like he's on beat in the short clips. idk, it could actually just be a mistake. they ain't perfect :P

give the drummer a monitor for chrissakes!
TEMPO!
1:50
Seems a little off tempo in parts, but what do you expect of 3 polyrhythms?
that ride cymbal was way off
