    Will using grip gloves ruin the whole thing?

    • @rikkinetic
      @rikkinetic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No not at all 😊 by all means go for gloves if you wish!
      I just stay away from them because many competitions don’t allow them and I just think it’s good to condition the hands up!
      If that’s not important to you and you want to just enjoy the monkey bars without ripping your hands (which will happen without gloves) then there’s nothing wrong with that 💪🏼😊🐒

    Biggest problem with these exercises is _finding_ a workout station!
    So few councils willing to pay for installation of such a longterm facility.
    My nearest is 24 miles round trip, then 55 miles.

    You can file down the callouses on your hands and moisture your hands between climbs to avoid too many ‘flappers’ and splits.

      Thanks Dave 💪🏼 good tips!
      These sort of workouts haven’t been the norm recently but hopefully now with less restrictions I’ll be able to get out more so your tips will come in useful I’m sure 👍🏼

    I noticed you do not utilize your thumb in some moves, mostly transitions in direction I think? Is not using your thumb when attempting 2 handed hops advisable in case I miss calculate and break the thumb?

    • @rikkinetic
      @rikkinetic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bob, it all depends with me, sometimes it feels more comfortable to go thumb under sometimes thumb over. The thickness of the bars play a factor as does how smooth/sticky they are! I even sometimes grip one hand differently to the other. Go with what feels best for you.
      I’ve not heard of anyone breaking their thumb from this but I guess it could happen

  • @mortemoccasus2412

    They just installed some monkey bars in the park near me, and I;ve really been enjoying them so far. What would you recommend in terms of reps/rest time between each exercise?

    • @rikkinetic
      @rikkinetic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s good to hear 😊💪🏼🐒
      It all depends on what you’re training for?!
      If it’s just enjoyment I would say go as long as you can and rest for as long as you need!
      For speed, work on shorter sets, maybe 10-20 seconds with good rest in between.
      For endurance, build up the sets to a minute or more and gradually reduce the rest time to 30 seconds or less

    • @rikkinetic
      @rikkinetic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your question relates more to the Bodyweight exercises in this video then I would say aim for 15-20 reps
      With Bodyweight though exercise intensity can vary greatly so you could maybe just go until you reach failure of good form 💪🏼

    How to warm up before doing monkey bar exercise? And how can i combine weight training and monkey bar exercise?

    • @rikkinetic
      @rikkinetic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marshall T
      Any upper body bodyweight movements can act as a good warm up to monkey bars, like the ones you’ll see in this video for example.
      However if you check out the video below you’ll see some more specific hanging drills that can be used

      @rikkinetic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you 🙏🏼 you are welcome 😊
      It all depends really! Probably in the beginning just go as long as your hands might allow! To use as a guide though, you could do sets of 30-60 seconds and maybe somewhere like 3-6 sets in total!
      For all the other exercises something like 3-4 sets of 10-15 reps is probably a good framework 💪🏼
      I have a video coming later that touches upon training protocols relating to goals and how long to work for depending on what your goals are 🐒 be sure to check it out!
