This game means media controls us nowadays, because it is common to us people to access information around the globe and even people could create stuff with it, to get entertain by somethings that may or may not be real but for whatever reason we make news that is not real because media now a days is easy to manipulate. There’s hackers, fake news, terrorism and many more. Just like the game’s title, “We Become What We Behold”, we create what we believe and what we put in any social media platforms or anything that we use to share information is what others may or may not believe.
This news thing reminds me of a time when I asked my parents for support, but they didn't let me go to a safe country in the Middle East, when my friend living there needed my company. It wasn't an issue of money. I told them I'd pay them back, and they confirmed they had the money. I know the country is a safe place - it's filled with expats, it's a tiny island where people from all over the world go on vacation. But it's in the Middle East. They looked it up online, apparently, and concluded that it was too dangerous, because for every good news they could find, there were three bad news articles. Because every so often some people complain. This led them to believe that it's not a good place to be - ironic, as we lived in Chicago, currently known for shootings and murder! I tried to explain to them that of course they see bad news, it wouldn't have made it on the news otherwise, but they didn't listen... I understand they were worried, but they knew nothing about the place and trusted biased news outlets instead of me, so it pissed me off :/ On top of that, they suggested that we pay for that friend's plane ticket, so he can come over instead and guess what - his parents wouldn't let him go because they heard on the news that Chicago is a very dangerous place. The place that my parents wouldn't hesitate twice about sending me, seeing as we lived there very safely and comfortably. And so, my friend ended up falling seriously depressed... PLEASE, PEOPLE, DON'T TRUST EVERYTHING YOU SEE ON THE NEWS. Be careful, sure, but also use your own intelligence to make judgments, not just what the news try to feed you!
jkderp I herd of over protective parents but when this protection causes separation between friends and causes depression that become a problem, Chicago is more dangerous then the Middle East considering that Place is known for shootings and murder
Deacon Waterman this seems counterintuitive. Yes it could be a dangerous place but the Middle East is such a broad term and is like saying America is dangerous because of gang violence and rape. I won't make a paragraph about it but I do hope you understand what I'm trying to get across
Jack, there's another great game by Nicky Case called the Coming Out Simulator, which I think you should play. It has a great message just like this game.
Everyday news focuses on horrible crimes committed by everyday people, but they never seem to focus on the kindhearted people who are willing to help someone through their daily life. Some people just want to watch the world burn master wayne - Alfred
The Squares lived happily, in their square houses, in their square yards, in their square town. One day, a family of Circles moved in from the west. "Get out of here, roundies!" shouted one of the Squares. "Why?" asked one of the Circles. "Because this is a metaphor for racism!" The Squares By: Bo Burnham
This is a good representation as to why I don't watch the news. Not because of the violence, because the media practically never covers everything. They almost always leave some crucial detail out because it would change the reaction.
I hate trends and rumors it makes life horrible, repetitive, badly informed, and stupid. Also I hate it when media show the bad in people and not the good
Kert Bartels we cant fix it we should probably just speak out against the bad ones, and share our opinions and truths because people are blinded by what they see making them think badly without completely comprehending what is happening. Racism and stereotypes, and demeaning people happens for no reason! Just because of one person and then people think the group is all like that
The Neighborhood Noob true, but we should be thankful that they are considered the "worst comments" in this community, as opposed to some of the horrible people that are considered normal on other channels
That is true. And while they are kinda considered normal (as in how common) They are quickly reported and taken off the comments most of the time. So that's good.
I have nothing on Jack but a huge massive respect for what he said starting from 8:28 about terrorism, because, being a muslim, it is getting harder than ever to convince people that I am friendly and peaceful, and Islam is all about peace. I am really happy that Sean understands the situation and knows that terrorism is not related to religions at all. Really proud of him ♥
in the quran there is 134 versus about violence towards others and how it should be followed just as that but im not here to say you or anyone you know are terrorists im just here to let you know that since the beginning of Islam it has caused massive wars
Deus Vult!! I think you need to educate yourself then, wherever violence is mentioned in the Quran, it is frowned upon, our Prophet said that if a man kills another, it is as if he killed all of mankind, so why don't you go and uh educate yourself, also a little bit of correction, wars were a seriously common thing in the past, there were crusades by Christians and other wars by other religions, so it is safe to say, no religion allows violence, war is just a thing of humans
Ahmad Zubair correction, crusades were by the Roman Catholics (Christians were still being put to death during that time) and they were liberating Jerusalem from under who's control? The Muslims, who took it in war. A war, that was declared by the prophet Muhammad, why declare war? Because not everyone would hear or believe his message, so he would force them, through war. His army started with their enemies, the Jews, and sacked Jerusalem, then started moving towards Italy, and on September 11th of that year, the Italians held the line, and stopped the takeover of their capital city, and pushed the muslims out. This is history, and it has had at one point influenced the future, 9/11 being the biggest example.
Why can't we just except things? We judge every single thing about each other that it tears everyone apart! For instance, my dad had long-ish hair(it was barely to his shoulders). But some people at his job would comment on it and joke about it a lot. It gave my dad anxiety. And last week he decided that he'd cut it all off because he was going to an important meeting and was worried that whoever was there wouldn't think he was odd. My sister dresses "like a boy" and has short hair and people actually think she is a boy. She's not trans or gay, that's just what she feels comfortable in. She went to a drag race with her friend and he had to show the workers his id and my sister's id. The id said her name, but they kept on trying to put a "boy-ish" twist to it(like if you named someone julia and they try to switch it to "Julian"). And any time we're out in public she's scared of going to the bathroom because she's scared of being judged. I want my sister to be able to go out and feel comfortable. I want my dad to be able to have whatever hair length he wants without having an anxiety attack. I just want everyone to feel excepted and loved. Sure there's bad people in the world, but that doesn't mean you have to be scared of everyone. Why can't we be more like Canada?
The Fallen Ravenclaw I know what your sister going through just a little bit, it actually makes me feel like I don't fit in and it sucks so freaking much
People don't trust what they don't understand, and with so many things going on in the world, there's hardly enough time to try and put a serious effort into understanding everything Manipulation by others, and extreme loyalty (Usually political party and religious loyalty) also factor into it.
I really understand you. A long time ago i had long hair myself and often i get dumb comments about it. The society always say: Be yourself. But if you are yourself and different, you get negative comments. I think often it´s about today that people make others bad, to feel better for themselves.
wow. Speechless. And what you said at the end is true. Minorities are labeled just for bad people which belong to the minority. As it is said with muslims, but it happens everywhere. In my personal case, I'm from Colombia, and I think we've been labeled as "drug dealers" or something like that because this country suffered a lot of this problem in the 80's (Pablo Escobar n stuff) and sadly the reality is like that, but we should not normalize this kind of situations because is unfair an problematic to the others. Greetings, J.
Flurry McPants not only minorities are labeled tho. I believe a lot of white people were treated unfairly as well because in a conflict between a majority and a minority, the majority is always at fault. Which is an irony, because that's racism, which is what we want to prevent to begin with by supporting minorities, not perpetuating it.
Flurry McPants I thought it's humanity in general. I don't care who's side people are on but if they keep arguing and stuff this thing might just as well happen. Now.. problem is who is the "circle guy with hat" that is tearing us all apart?
Kitty Standard no unless they are implying that humans are somehow inferior or superior too another it's not actually racism they are just blaming the majority without any excuse so they are at most just being douches
Flurry McPants i hate it when i see tht kind of stuff but as u said thts how it is but its not completely our fault as this game shows the media tends to find something bad and then blow it up to unnecessary levels tht send everyone into mass hysteria and then when tht happens to one side the other side of this injustice begins to have similar feelings of fear or hate and they just go along hating each other its very unfortunate.
Tate Cash I completely agree. Media today is focused on pleasing as many people as possible, and the best way to do that is to pick what seems to be the most popular side and defend it no matter what, regardless of if it's even correct.
this game shows us why we should love and accept everyone, if we don't, we all end up turning on each other and things goes bad. if we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it.
I recommend Jack play a game by Nicky Case called coming out simulator, or something similar to that. The dialogue is humorous while still being faithful to the idea of coming out to your parents. It's one of my favorites form the game developer, and is worth the run though.
thats a website where you donate money to the artist, sorta like patreon. i think its pretty clever and cute. i dont know if you knew but i thought i might tell you. not to be rude c:
Yeah, I did too. It was actually about himself/herself (I forget what their gender is, but I think they're a male considering that the partner in the "coming out simulator" was male).
i remember that, it was that text-based adventure with like talking to his bf and his parents! it was really really good and now i'm definitely looking at the other stuff this developer has done.
Hey Jack! I know of a long let's play game you would enjoy! It's called Botanicula. It's gorgeous and the music is beautiful too! I think you would like it. There's also a game called Machinarium by the same company. That game's about a world of robots! They're both amazing games and I think you and your fans(including me) would enjoy them! Sorry this isn't about the video. I like your view on the game you played though!
Imagine his neighbors just tuning in to birdwatching out the window. Neighbor: Do you hear that? Jack: AGHHH AGHHHHHHHH AGHHHHHHHHH Neighbor: Its the call of the wild jack! Jack: Be scared. Be angry. Neighbor: Look! I think he likes us!!!
Can anyone remember Papers, Please? Well: The strictest teacher in my school was substituting my regular science teacher while she was off doing things. We were doing our end of topic test and at the end of the lesson he said 'papers, please'. I've always been the teacher's pet, never getting into trouble, but today was different. I bursted out laughing (thank heavens, everyone watches jack exempt a few people) and I did the little Papers, Please song and then I shouted 'GLORY TO ARSTOTZKA! GLORY GREATEST COUNTY! DETAINED' and everyone started quoting him. Best. Detention. Ever. What the heck are all these likes for? Thanks ^.^
"GET OUT OF HERE ROUNDIES!" "Why?" "BECAUSE THIS IS A METAPHOR FOR RACISM!" Edit: thanks so much for all the likes! Maybe Jack might see my comment👀(゜o゜)but BO BURNHAM IS AMAZING
I love the fact that the first several photos had the TV in them so you could see the news story that made them act like this and how it started, then they didn't have the TV in them when it became a self sustaining phenomenon (I know it wasn't intentional but it's cool!)
^ *Sigh* someone always has to counter argue someone saying crap about "CNN" with "Fox News." As if CNN is holy and outt not to be talked badly about, because Fox is the devil or something. (Maybe I'm overthinking this a little, but just something I noticed on the internet :/ )
[Thank you for recognising this is analogous to all perceived differences] It can trickle so far as to reflect superiority amongst the same group; "I'm more traumatised than you" "Yes, you have survived more events, but my trauma has impacted my daily functions by leaving me permanently disabled" It is so easy to hate, because for several generations anger was something to repress ir manipulate. Gen-Z ain't perfect, but I've noticed Zillenials, Z's and AlphaZ have begun to fight against generational traumas, cyclical abuse and self fulfilling prophecies. Gen-Y started this trend, and niw that they're actively seeking out therapy and utilising platforms, they've been a huge help in teaching us how to grow up. Unfortunately, I predict that toxic positivity will be the overswing from conditional hatred and hypernormatism. And so the pendulum will swing back by GenF to value obediency over autonomy.
This was pretty powerful for a short game. I like the concept the creator had behind it

What’s crazy is that this cycle is never going to end, and even if it does, nobody will be alive to witness it.
this is what the news does everyday and has for years. this game just shows it in an aspect people can grasp.
I like the way you put it. :)
This game is really thought provoking. It really makes me think about what's going on in my country (USA) this hits home. This game is really deep. I love it
I'm in a country that still isn't over a war that ended 20 years ago and this makes me anxious about my region's political state
Lilah thatnerd not the whole US only Detroit
Lilah thatnerd well you should already be thinking of those kinds of implications without seeing it here. And take action. That's why the US is sadly dying.
It's sad but this stuff happens in real life because people see things on the news and buy into it without question and don't look at the whole picture for what is actually there. But of course that doesn't mean it's the end of times. It's just another chapter in history for people to learn from.
2:21 "You see what happens? You do something..." **sudden yell** A wild Jacksepticeye appeared! XD
4:08 #circlesHateSquares => **yells all around** And now we have Irish Street again :P
4:38 "Violence goes viral until it goes so viral that peace goes viral, and then it all just repeats again" Sadly so; we live in a disturbing cycle of war and peace(look up "Very Serious Stuff: War Cycles Hit This Year", those graphs give me goosebumps) =*
CheezyCat It's burned into my brain XD
Tord: (Flaaaaaaaaaashbaaaaaaack!)**WAPSH** **WAPSH** **WAPSH** TOPOTHEMORNIN'TOPOTHEMORNIN'TOPOTHEMORNIN' (Back to the present) Yeah, I can't forget Irish Street if I tried.
Be careful, sure, but also use your own intelligence to make judgments, not just what the news try to feed you!
jkderp I herd of over protective parents but when this protection causes separation between friends and causes depression that become a problem, Chicago is more dangerous then the Middle East considering that Place is known for shootings and murder
jkderp I feel bad for you
did you specify which place in the middle east?
Deacon Waterman this seems counterintuitive. Yes it could be a dangerous place but the Middle East is such a broad term and is like saying America is dangerous because of gang violence and rape. I won't make a paragraph about it but I do hope you understand what I'm trying to get across
So true man
Jack, there's another great game by Nicky Case called the Coming Out Simulator, which I think you should play. It has a great message just like this game.

The Squares lived happily, in their square houses, in their square yards, in their square town.
One day, a family of Circles moved in from the west.
"Get out of here, roundies!" shouted one of the Squares.
"Why?" asked one of the Circles.
"Because this is a metaphor for racism!"

This game is really powerful, I've seen it before, but it still packs the same punch the second time around.
This is a good representation as to why I don't watch the news. Not because of the violence, because the media practically never covers everything. They almost always leave some crucial detail out because it would change the reaction.
Sad thing is people will see this and still blame a single group for this. “Oh this is BLM” , “this is Fox News” it’s all of them stop picking sides
For real they are all money schemes I have no idea why people even stand for it these big company’s only see us as another dollar
Blm, CNN and Fox News are just caring for their views and money and not for noble causes.

Kert Bartels we cant fix it we should probably just speak out against the bad ones, and share our opinions and truths because people are blinded by what they see making them think badly without completely comprehending what is happening. Racism and stereotypes, and demeaning people happens for no reason! Just because of one person and then people think the group is all like that
Well they do show the good also, but nobody seems to ever notice THAT.........
I love this channel. the positive attitude is unmatched by anyone else and you can see that it truly carried through to the viewers and comments.
Only bad thing about the comments is that sliver of comments asking for likes, subs, comments and such. That only come for a personal gain.
The Neighborhood Noob true, but we should be thankful that they are considered the "worst comments" in this community, as opposed to some of the horrible people that are considered normal on other channels

Really proud of him ♥
Osgamer Watch out for the edgy 12 year olds. Anyways, Islam is awesome.
Yeah, Jack worded it really well. The news can be the most cruel force in the world sometimes.
in the quran there is 134 versus about violence towards others and how it should be followed just as that but im not here to say you or anyone you know are terrorists im just here to let you know that since the beginning of Islam it has caused massive wars
This is history, and it has had at one point influenced the future, 9/11 being the biggest example.
jack, this game was deep for what it was but I wish people would realize this and change it for the better, and end the cycle. ps, I love your vids
But then it would be inaccurate, since the cycle never ends.

Why can't we be more like Canada?
dude, fvck those people.
i mean seriously, why can't people respect or atleast tolerate other people habit.
The Fallen Ravenclaw most of my family had to leave the country they were born in cause of persecution I think it was called
The Fallen Ravenclaw I know what your sister going through just a little bit, it actually makes me feel like I don't fit in and it sucks so freaking much
People don't trust what they don't understand, and with so many things going on in the world, there's hardly enough time to try and put a serious effort into understanding everything
Manipulation by others, and extreme loyalty (Usually political party and religious loyalty) also factor into it.
Tate Cash
I completely agree. Media today is focused on pleasing as many people as possible, and the best way to do that is to pick what seems to be the most popular side and defend it no matter what, regardless of if it's even correct.

Zashra agreed
And this here is the point of the game
5:37 is when the chaos begins.
[Thank you for recognising this is analogous to all perceived differences]
It can trickle so far as to reflect superiority amongst the same group;
"I'm more traumatised than you"
"Yes, you have survived more events, but my trauma has impacted my daily functions by leaving me permanently disabled"
It is so easy to hate, because for several generations anger was something to repress ir manipulate.
Great commentary Sean! I wish people were more tolerant and kind, we're all humans beings after all!
