- I hike in with a sled full of gear to a survival cabin in the Remote Lake Solitude Area in northern Minnesota with my dog. After we discover that the place is overrun by critters, we are forced to setup a shelter before the snow arrives.

And of course - every time you have of your beautiful Rylie and your sweet little Olivia with you…your videos shine and glow even more ❤

Hi Jack and Ellie , Wow, that is truly survivor mode .Sleeping out in the open elements with snow. I'm glad yall stayed warm . Ellie was extra cute in your clothes. I'm really glad to see these snow videos before the snow is al gone. Jack, you should write a book about your and Ellie's outdoor adventures and turn it into a child's book with pictures. Your makeshift tarp shelter is one of the better ones I've seen. It's simple and sturdy. Using bungee cords really seems to tighten up the structure. Very impressive.

I have a question. Being it's an unusual situation, I would consider gathering as much wind fall around me. Build a wind break along one tarp end and one half the front side. If any brough branches could judiciously be gathered as well the wind break could be more substantial. It would be a safety effort. You don't want to damage the area, but this act would easy to dismantle. Why didn't you bring a smaller second tarp. With the sledge it wouldn't add much weight, but add to emergency gear. Curious about why you bring what you bring. Love Ellie!!!

This brings up memories! Lovely video!! I went camping with my son one time about 4 years ago......hiked up a mountain trail and he brought an OPEN air tent! NOT different then what you are sleeping with pretty much! However no heater and it was in the 20s. I had on a goosedown coat, mohair hat and a cashmere scarf.... I didn't even sleep in my 40s temp bag...it was supposed to be in the 40s..Instead it was snow and we had a campfire in the morning...made a decent breakfast with coffee. Fed little birds and broke up camp...going in our way. His big Australian shepherd kept me warm!

@@TinyCabinLife It was! Although I didn't sleep it didn't matter...I love camping out. The next time he took me camping in his cabover camper and that was fun...glamping though...LOL It was very comfy.

You made a really cosy shelter Jack, it is such a shame the hut is so run down and the toilet broken down, the table with the benches looked like it was still in good condition. I love Ellie's coat she looks so cosy and warm in it, really pleased you put her bed the other side, especially when you got the blow back coming in. What a wonderful way to wake up and have Ellie giving you kisses. She is the sweetest dog and the best camping mate. Thats a wonderful idea about restoring the hut, as you say it is a memorial one so it would be really nice to save it from just rotting away x

Very cool idea to try and clean that shelter up. Its not in that bad of shape that a few days and a few dedicated people couldn't restore it. Also, Elle is so so so cute!
