The problem is anyone can buy a boat and have zero training. Typically dams have nets or buoys which say not to go any closer to the dam. I have seen lakes where they are full and water is spilling over the spillway the current will drag those buoy's under water. Should never get close to dam inlets when spillways are open go past danger signs.
People are stupid. I got my boat license at 11 years old and learned to avoid spillways, waterfalls, and any dangerous waters. You should never go close to a dam for any logical reason because you don't know how high the fall is.

They thanked god because they could have drowned before emergency services came to them. They were incredibly lucky and they managed to survive in a situation that could have easily ended in all of them drowning or being sucked into the dam. They probably did thank emergency services for their help off camera. However their survival was 80 percent luck and believe that they were lucky because of god.

Most dams have warning signs way way ahead of the danger zones for any spillway. Most have big billboards that warn to stay away 800 meters or 800 feet away from the upper side of any dam in the south.

Some are large independent concrete structures like the dam on lake Oroville....some are sluice gates on top of the dam....others are a morning glory type of spillway where it quite literally looks like a hole in the lake, an example being Monticello dam. The description in this video says it’s a power dam. The outlet works will be at the bottom to create a larger hydraulic head. You would not survive if you went through the water turbine.
I've watched a lot of videos on these types low headed dam situations - and its nigh on impossible to escape the 'boil' where the water just keeps churning you around in a circular motion....but for 4 out of 4 people to escape - thats unheard of...that really is 100% impossible....theres only one way that could've happened and that's God. So the problem right here is we atheist aren't miserable or devoid of hope. Taking that into consideration, some readers of this comment conclude may conclude that the only reason you would have typed this is because you've been fed misinformation. And from there you have atheists trying to save religious folk from what they perceive as misinformation.
So keep your beliefs, but be wary that in confronting atheists you may just give them more fuel.

People experience a lot of things. I have no doubt that this family experienced God's intervention. I am not here to judge this family as some here have. You are entitled to not believe in God, no one here is forcing you to. You are free to believe God doesn't exist, but please show respect for this family and their beliefs.
