The Gyro backstory might be one of my favorite backstories in anime, or really any medium, period. I have a thing for when a story manages to introduce or focus on a completely new character instead of the main cast and still somehow leave an incredible impression on you. The storytelling prowess required to do that is just insane to me and I can't help but be in awe at whoever manages to pull off a feat like that. With Gyro, while we do have some context on him before this episode, the actual content of the backstory is so far removed from any of the plot or characters of Hunter x Hunter that most of it could even work as a standalone story. But the fact that it's integrated into an overarching narrative almost elevates it, because it's so wondrous to consider that at any point, a completely new character could be introduced to the story without any significant relation to existing characters and still have you so taken in that you just want to see more of them. Maybe it's just the storytelling-loving nerd in me but that stuff gives me the tingles, and I'm glad to see you appreciate things like that too. There's plenty more good stuff to come, so looking forward to the upcoming discussions, as always.
@@MrKlarthums I've heard good things about the show and didn't watch it while it was still fresh but it's been on my plan to watch list. All the signs point to it being a fun time for me so maybe I'll get to it sooner.
My father also fought with me because of my old bed that made noises with any movement I made as a child. I slept very badly because I was paralyzed in fear of him, when I saw this in the character Gyro I identified with the poor guy.
yeah my parent disgust me. Being parent is not for everyone. Most people should never have children. They just ruin the children's life and continue to destroy human's virtues and dignity. I forgive and also forget them. I basically disown my own parent to avoid associating with toxic and ugly humans. Revolting and repulsive humans. 😂
Skipped the first 15 min to get right to the good stuff 👍🏽 it’s good to see someone who gives a show their full attention notice all the great things about HxH.
It makes me happy hearing your enthusiasm for the beginning episodes of the arc, as they are considered to be the least enjoyable compared to the unbelievable climax of this story.

I do have to wonder if there were some padding decisions due to the weekly nature of the show to ensure they could hit the right production qualities on the key moments. At this point, they had been releasing weekly eps for nearly two years with approx 2 filler eps and maybe 2-3 holiday breaks. Some of it is Togashi including less impactful material (his health and mentals were not good in this stretch), but I think the anime exaggerates a few bits too much. The following arc returns to the snappy format though.

More spoilers I can't believe they cut that out of the anime. I just looked it up now and it feels so much less confusing. It doesn't ruin some mystery, it just clears up some annoyingly confusing mess that the arc barely brings up after this episode. Like he was born and just...disappeared, I guess. After reading that chapter it feels so much better for the story. The questions in my mind are no longer "why was Gyro brought up at all and then nothing coming of it? This sucks." and are now "When will he appear again? Who will he meet first, how will their meeting go, how has he changed since his rebirth?" I've heard he hasn't appeared yet but it still makes me even more keen for the anime to continue and for him to be revealed someday.
