If your a HxH-Fan, maybe my rant will be of interest for you but dont read if you dont want to. Togashi refusing to tell us the basics is hurting Conjuration-Fans most and outright prevents any Games or Game-Mods (Fiy, Minecraft would be ideal to house a Nen-Mod) to be made. How is how much it costs to conjure something decided? I see 4 options: Mass, Complexity, Individual Feelings, Group-Feelings Aka Economy!
In Star Trek they literally have Conjuration-Nen but its called Repilcator and they even outright say about its function "Gold is one of the simpliest things so its easiest to make."
Does Nen work the same or is molecular Complexity irrelevant and its simple "The bigger something is, the
more Energy it costs"?

I'm so glad that you were able to affirm your love for Gon as he encompasses some of the most emotional beats in the series for me. I can never watch episode 131 plus a couple of others in the Chimera Ant arc without breaking down. It's amazing how Togashi manages to craft characters with such human cores that everyone can find something in all of them to latch onto and resonate with. Personally, my group of favourite characters would include Meruem, Kurapika, Gon, Shiapouf, Killua, Chrollo and Netero.
Furthermore, I really do appreciate your videos as I love hearing people speak so passionately about the stories that resonate with them. I won't lie when I say that it's partly because of how much you gush over this series that finally got me around to checking out HxH. And I'm so glad I did as it's been one of the most wonderful surprises ever.

3. And the gon haters.
Gon and HXH was my first series that got me to LOVE anime. And I believe is why I love Bleach so much. Obviously togashi "Yu Yu" yuskuke is definitely what ichigo is based on. A ghost detective, "delinquent" with a heart,has a hidden ancestors of royalty in the after life. Gon is a great character up there for me of my favorite

I must say i realy disliked Gon in the end.
But i blame Togashi for writing so many great Characters who arent just likeable or dislikeable but can end up anywhere in between but are all realy interesting.
Can't understand the people who think he's either bland or an out-and-out monster. He's morally complex and makes some dubious decisions, that's for sure, but let's not pretend Kurapika or even Killua are morally pure either.
He's my favourite too, and Hisoka is very close. The rest of the main 4 are trailing close behind.

The best thing about Hunter x Hunter is that even if you ignore all the very prominent characters, the series is still a masterclass in character writing only with its side cast.
Pitou being at the bottom of the list just really shows how completely amazing the character writing is in Hunter X Hunter.
And its no slight on Pitou either. The cast is just that strong.
As I was watching through the list, I kept expecting Gon to show up as the next character once I got to the top 5 or so, but honestly I really respect that he made it to number 1 on your list.

Love top lists, often make them myself. Glad to see Gon at number 1, really surprising! I feel people often just focus on one aspect of his character and overlook everything else. Sure he has his flaws and darkness within him, but most of the time he's selfless and cares about the well-being of others.

I literally adore your videos. I don't often find a lot of interesting videos about HxH these days, and i appreciate the love you put into your videos. HxH is my favorite anime of all time and I'm so happy videos talking about still come out ♡
My favorite hunter x hunter character is kurapika
From the beginning he is a fascinating mold for a character and I just love his interactions with literally every character
His nen abilities are also my absolute favorite as I love how they tie perfectly into his past and his background
His fight against uvogin is probably my favorite fight in the whole series
And his masterful character writing in my favorite anime arc of all time is some of the best writing ever
I love how he emits this tone of extreme darkness and how this further ties to his nen abilities in how certain parts of him feel chained and locked away and how his character represents this duality of external light and internal darkness

My favorite character is Netero because he perfectly incorporates the thematics of selfishness/selflessness. I think episode 111 is the best episode in the whole series.
111 is such a masterpiece in large part due to him!

I definitely agree! Best episode in the series. That scene where he is doing he 10000 punches might be my favorite scene of the series.
I would like Tagashi to ever explain what Netero has done and achieved.
Why it was important to pray. Not only did he become faster, but he acquired or used some kind of power so that he became so fast that no human body could keep up with it.
What would have happened if he had stopped praying during his beatings? Would he then be like a normal person again so quickly?
I think it hardly has anything to do with anyone. it was a higher power. Probably the kind of power that can only exist on the forbidden continent.
HxH has an amazing cast but I think where it really shines is it allows the so called "background characters" to shine almost as much the protagonist and sometimes more.
Welfin is the perfect example of this. In another series this dude is just total fodder but in HxH he is absolutely pivotal.
That's what I love about HxH. The world doesn't revolve around Gon and yet Gon is able to stand out in such a well written world because his character is just that interesting.
Same with ikalgo and melody for me. they feel so so important and they have such lovable personalities
@@sungii For sure. Ikalgo is actually the reason why I consider the potential of Gyro in the story to be so huge because Ikalgo and Welfin both think very highly of Gyro
(I imagine they see Gyro in a very similar way to how the members of the Phantom Troupe sees Chrollo.) However if Gon and Gyro become enemies then that's going to
make things very complicated with Killua who is both friends with Gon and Ikalgo. So I think it's very likely gonna end up as complete and utter chaos.
Also with Melody the whole Sonata of Darkness is rather interesting because it's like does "Satan" actually exist in the world of Hunter x Hunter
or was Melody's curse a result of a nen contract or is it both? I'm not sure if Togashi will actually answer these questions but it's fun to ponder
and while you could just take out the whole bit and the story would still run fairly smoothly it adds considerable depth to the world building.
Also personally as someone making their own comics it's inspiring to read a story like HxH where characters like Ikalgo and Melody can shine
without having to fill in a "main character" role or forcing the main characters to always be the movers of the plot. It shows that there are more options.
Great comment, my friend. If it were any other anime, Gon would face off against Meruem since he's the protagonist, but no, the strongest dude goes to take care of it. There's so much to say about HxH, such an incredible series.

Great list, I love your thought process on every character. For me Meruem is the best character in the series and possibly all of anime. I think Meruem is the perfect villain and the character growth he goes through in Chimera Ant is some of the best writing in fiction. Also he has one of the best designs in all of anime. The friend of mine that got me into HxH told me there was a villain that design wise was a mix between Frieza and Cell and that’s all it took to hook me.

If I'm to be entirely honest, experiencing the story that first awakened my adoration for storytelling and analysis through the perspective of the TH-camr whomst first did the same is perpetually a rather viscerally emotional experience, and this video most assuredly lived up to the entirely arbitrary, absurd hype I myself constructed for it to fulfill.
HxH is, to me, perhaps the central encapsulation of existential optimism, of all the beauty of life and human existence through the darkness we endure. The profoundity of our existence's duality and sheer potential is directly expressed, the essentially infinite dimensionality of the human condition as it pertains to life and identity - as also signified by Nen - crafting a genuine compassion and value for human life amidst the darkness of the setting. The concept of 'Detours' integrates beautifully into this thematic core, as it expresses the vitality of humanity's intrinsic yearning to truly live in an integrative manner, to rush toward every horizon, whilst maintaining the 'core' of that which one is, as both Gon and Killua learn to do. Human beings, by our very nature, yearn to soar amongst the stars, to ascertain all that defines the beauty of living, and to construct something to truly care for, be it for ourselves and/or within others (A notion Togashi additionally expressed within Yu Yu Hakusho, which I also adore). Such expressions are, to me, the core resonance of HxH.

wonderful video, for me Chrollo’s identity struggle and how it’s intervowen with the spider and his nen ability + general coolness makes him my top 1 HxH (2 all time) character, and seeing you gush over Gon really made me sit down and think more about him and realize how much I’ve enjoyed him during my current rewatch of the series

Pouf is definitely the most underrated character in the community. I legit think he is the best written character. His inner dialogue and insanity is amazing. Dub rocks too

Illumi and hisoka has my favorite moment ever. Being a HUGE fan of chibi faces hisoka and his are my favorite BY FAR!
My two favorites currently are Kurapika and Ging.
I love Ging mostly because of his attitude. He knows exactly who he is and he doesn't give a crap about what anyone else thinks. I also love the fact that he's extremely flawed. Plenty of people in the world of HxH hate his guts. He's one of the world's top Hunters yet he's kind of a douche who earns the dislike of others. In most shonen characters that serve similar roles to that of Ging are painted in very positive light but Ging is presented as just... human. And I find that quite amazing
Kurapika is my #1 because I'm astounded by how well he is written and presented. He can be calm and collected but also hateful and at times impulsive. He is sweet and gentle but also cold and calculating. And it's not like all these "contradictions" are products of inconsistent writing. They make perfect sense for who he is. It's all within his character. He's a character we get to see through many different lenses (which I guess can be said for most characters in HxH 😅) and his self- destructive journey is extremely engaging. I also love how intelligent and calculating he is. Having Kurapika as the protagonist is so fun because he is constantly analysing everything and tries to find the best possible outcome. It's like he's always on a chessboard and he's a real good player.
Anyway, these are my scattered thoughts on my favorite characters that I wanted to share

It's insane to think characters like Chrollo, Meruem, Netero, Killua, Shoot are all characters that exist in one series. Most series would be blessed to have one character of this caliber

This is dramatically different from how I would rank the characters, but some pretty interesting insights on the characters
You should do some Yu Yu Hakusho videos. It's not as grand or enriching as Hunter X Hunter, but it has a lot of subtle character driven stories that hit home to anyone. I love Hunter X Hunter but I've always had a greater love for Yu Yu Hakusho, maybe it's because I grew up with it in the 2000s. Give it some thought.

He's so mysterious and makes him more interesting and exciting character. Even haven't shown much.
I don't have a specific list. But my top two hxh characters are Palm and Killua. And then followed by Gon and Alluka by a large margin lower.
On a side note, I recently heard that Togashi’s back pain is currently bad, so I feel like it'll be while for new chapters. But tbh, I'm fine with it; I'm more concern about his well-being. I hope he's getting help...
You have a wounderful and valid list. I couldn´t rank them all but my 2 clear favourites are Chrollo and Kurapika. Not only are they written greatly but their vibes is what I simply enjoy most when watching characters.
Chrollo keeps you guessing who he at heart is. While there are just enough hints to keep you engaged in the mystery. I haven´t read the newest manga arc so I don´t know the information revealed yet. Also partly because the hiatuses would be hard to swallow for me since my two favourite characters are in the focus right now...
Kurapikas case is easyer for me: I somewhat kin him (if we leave the revenge plot layer out) and can relate to him. So it simply makes me care for his story a lot. He is a soft, good-hearted person at nature, with strong morals and also the knowledgable/ studious and more strung up type. Then he has his loss and revenge that are eating away at him, going against his morals and soft nature, also scarring him mentally. I just want Leorio to punch him in old fashion anime style and talk him out of it.
Gon is the sweetest young man ever. Deserved #1 spot.

I have to agree with Gon being the top character. Ever since picking up on some of his unique traits and attitudes it was hard to not see him as that guy. As the series goes on it’s just displayed more how greatly he was written.

So happy that Gon made the top1 of your list! Honestly, he is really underrated as far as protagonists in their stories go - when his character is so magnificently dynamic
Good list , the only thing missing for me is Morel. I love Morel's character , he was the backbone of the CA arc doing all the somewhat boring , but necessary preparations to ensure the mission's success. His words to Killua about how you can never know who will win in a nen fight are stuck with me to this day. It shows that he is a badass whos been through a lot , while maintaining a somewhat optimistic view even when faced with stronger opponents.
He is one of the buffest guys we've seen in the show , yet he never uses brute strength when he fights, instead relying on clever tactics and experience, a masterful way to subvert expectations. His softer side shown with Colt and Gon being similar to that of his student Knuckle. For me he is the guy you can rely to follow the plan and get shit done while always making smart decisions on the spot. I'd be honored to go out and drink some beers with that guy!
Morel is the most boring new (important) character from the Chimera Ant arc for me.

I just rewatched the hunter x hunter(1999) then the chimera arc to the last episode, there are lots of amazing dialogue that I didn’t realized in the past.. This is my top 15
1. Killua- The way his mind works and his friendship with Gon made his character memorable. The change from assassin to hunter was just amazing… I agree with some of his decisions in a realistic way..
2. Chrollo Lucilfer- This guy not only he was an amazing nen user but the complexity of his mind and the vulnerability of it was perfectly executed. The way he weighed his value but also the greediness was also fascinating.
3. Gon- Just like killua shat I love about him is his value his simpleminded personality was just entertaining.

Morel, kurapika, and killua are all tied at the top for me. All amazing characters
Great video as always, there are many takes that I agree with like Gon and Killua being so high. I'd put Palm in the top 15 easily personnaly tho. Her dynamic with Knov and Gon and the way her Hatsus reflect, not only her characteristics like many Hunter × Hunter characters but also her character developpment is purely amazing. She is to me, the most overlooked character in Hunter × Hunter.

Mines would be
Killua (he’s literally just like me fr I couldn’t have related to a character more and he made me cry so many times. I saw myself in him which just makes every more painful ngl)
Kurapika (I wanted to put him as my favorite bc in a way he should be bc I love love these kind as of characters. He’s just amazing and I really don’t want him to die please don’t die)
Meruem (obviously gotta be top 3 but his growth really carried him for me. Him slowly changing to become more human was so powerful and his ability to grow bc of losing is incredible)
Gon (he’s not in #1 simply bc I hated him for how selfish he was, his flaws were so huge for me that I kinda resented him ngl, especially cuz of what he said to killua broke my heart, but nevertheless he’s top 5 simply bc I love his change so much, to being a naive very instinctive kid to such a monster is fascinating and his emotional immaturity playing a factor is made well)
Hisoka ( I hate kid loving ppl but he is such a dynamic and flexible character, his design his powers the way he is in the story is so fun although very very disturbing at times makes him one of my favorites,)
Chrollo (even though we don’t see much of him, his Motivations and the lastest chapters just make him so amazing to me idk why. I love that he cares a lot about his troupe members but maybe not in a way you’d expect, I like the theory on how he feels they are part of him and make up his identity, I love a good identity crisis character tbh)
leorio will always be my favorite character.

kurapika nr 1... his character is overlooked so often especially in early hunter.
his inner thoughts about gon. the way he faced hisoka. his interactions with leorio and gon (how he comforts them especially gon and understanding his emotions). his interview with netero (in the simple answers he gave is soo much personality).
his ability to put his hate aside for his friends in yorknew after the climax.
his nen ability and everything around it perfectly fits into his narrative.
there is soo much more about kurapika and his decisions often overlooked...

I think he’s a magnificent character, and I agree with all of that. I just like a handful that little bit more!

We shouldn't also forget that Leorio is Gon's real father.
Agree wholeheartedly with most placements and even the honorable mentions. Uvogin as a character weirdly just makes you want to rank him highly. Togashi gives him such a big presence with little screen time comparatively, especially in death he does a lot to give depth to the Troupe. Komugi as well, I expected a high ranking from you, cause you know she is so extremely vital to that Arc despite her strength level essentially being that of an insect to basically any other character in the series. I gotta believe a character like Mikey from Tokyo Revengers has to have some inspiration from a character like Komugi, where so much of the plot depends on them, despite them being such a weak physical force, but an intense mental force for driving the plot.
Uvogin got more screen time in the phantom troupe flashback recently, made his death and the requiem that followed that much more impactful

Its only been a couple years since i watched HxH for the first time, but this may get me to go on a rewatch
i think the 2 most underated character in HxH are Gon and pouf, and well, you gave them justice. For me Gon is by far the best character ever, and pouf... is quite special, such a despicable character, i hate him so much, we all do, but he's the true villain of his arc, we are suppose to hate him, the amount of emotion this character trigger in us, we pass like 30 episode hoping he gonna die and when it happen, it doesn't matter anymore
Stopped the video early to add to Tsereidnich, even though it got overshadowed by the amazing 395 chapter, the 394 also adds alot to tsereidnich in such a different light to what we previously had seen, as we get to know his loyal guards. Just wanted to add that, thank you :)
