Sprockets should ALWAYS be replace when replacing a chain - (not that most people actually do)! A (even slightly) worn sprocket will make the new chain seek a longer pin to pin distance, prematurely stretching the new chain. May be important for that light duty chain the sees so much stress.
For mouse deterrent, we’ve had good luck with full size pine cones and dryer sheets. In my 4066r deere that sits unused all spring, summer, fall, i put a dryer sheet in each vent and a couple pine cones on the floor mat. Machine only gets used in the winter for snow removal with a metal pless plow, inverted blower and have never had a mouse in the 5 years we’ve had it.
You can have someone come out to the farm and balance the chopper (and rotor) on the combine. We do it annually, and it certainly helps keeps everything nice and tight.
just finished the video from yesterday, and look in the subscription page, and here we are. watching 2 Larson vids in a day! thanks for the videos, CHET! love them!
Tip from indiana. When doing the hammer blades, there is a panel above the stationary blades that can be removed easily via 8 bolts and provides 3x the access to the hammer blades
Chains: In the sawmill that I have had contact with , from memory we would take say 100 links, pull it tight and thew measure the length. Then if it was 81x it has a pitch of 2.609", times that by 100 and compare the percentage difference.Any more that 6% and it would be binned and replaced. Just a helpful guide for you. Cheers
First of all, let me say that I worked for Deere for 36 years so familiar with lots of things. The company that builds the residue management systems (choppers) are very diligent in building a high quality product. I am guessing that Deere found another supplier to make those knives cheaper and the is when the problem started. And, back in the Dark Ages, I was a mechanic for a seed corn producer and constantly battled roller chain issues in the mechanical detasslers’ final drives. I feel the pain.
Go to your local carpet store and get a bolt end for $50. New carpet with matching head liner. Might I suggest something flaming hot red. Dougo would love it. Just saying.
After grinding off rivets on chain, lay flat and use a sharp chisel between side plate and inner link ,one hit with hammer and side plate flies off. Way faster than air chisel.
You can put dryer sheets inside the cabs and around other areas of the machinery and trucks to keep the mice out. They don't like the smell of them, plus they smell way better than moth balls.
You can’t tell if the hammers leave the chat unless it’s bad, the S series cabs are too quiet and you can’t feel the vibrations like the older ones. I and several others have had them come off, we all said the same thing, just add it to the daily checklist.
When you replace roller chain if you use 60H chain ratlher thasn normal 60 your repairs between replacements will be O. I use to have trrouble wiith roller chains but switched to H chains the sides are a lot heavier make sure if you need repair links they are always H also.
for your mouse problem just buy some moth balls and put them around where the mice frequent, and do not forget to replace them when they are gone. Rege
Put. Moth balls in your cabs of your tractors in the winter time. We put Moth balls in our tractor cabs on the golf course and it helps a lot. Put it on the ground around the tractors or your daughters.
You should look into Ozone generator for the smell issue in your hardware. I know car guys use them in some cases to get bad smells out of cars. there are some dangers with it but its widely used in cars for cleaning as far as I understand. Maybe someone with more time using one can offer more insight
Hello Larson Family its good tonsee your videos almost each day to watch. I find watching your videos is relaxing compared to some others. I do appreciate 🙏 the hard work you boys put in each day and congratulations to Chet and Brody for upcoming new born! 😊🎉 Id like see more videos that you can produce for this upcoming season and also any video's helps us to understand whether it helps or not! Til then, to All Larson Family thanks and hello from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada 🇨🇦 A lol
It looked like the new 60 chain fit the sprocket teeth correctly. I had an issue with a baler pickup chain a couple of years ago. Turns out that it took 60 metric roller chain. I didn't know that it existed until then.
I did enjoy the video. It's fun to see you getting all of that preventative maintenance done. I do have a concern though. I didn't see you do anything to prevent those mice from moving back into the dozer again. It won't take the long.
Chett have you ever looked at o-ring chain. My old Harley's used a standard chain and they always stretched, I installed the o-ring chain and they last a whole lot longer
Good Lord Chet!, you've got to be at least one of the top five farm channels on the interweb. time to tell John Deere to take a hike. Get something reliable.
A good Auto Upholstery shop can make the headliner from scratch, probably for less. Next time, call around and get estimates. I had one reproduced for a Corvair, and Far better sound & thermal insulation. than the original.
I hate to say it but due to the sponsor pitches and all the adds it has become insufferable to watch your content. Yinz are not the only content that I more recently find insufferable to watch on TH-cam. I just don't have the time to waist tuning in to content with constant pitches.

Love seeing all the Ultrasound pictures of your baby growing. She is going to be a lucky girl having Dougo as a grandpa.
Other tip from my Brother in Nebraska on chains that wear out fast, check out the sprockets. A worn sprocket will wear out a chain quickly.
Sprockets should ALWAYS be replace when replacing a chain - (not that most people actually do)! A (even slightly) worn sprocket will make the new chain seek a longer pin to pin distance, prematurely stretching the new chain. May be important for that light duty chain the sees so much stress.
clarification: chains do not really stretch. The side links stay the same - the pins & bushings wear and the link holes enlarge.
Get the proper chain breaker tools! The bulk chain is a LOT more reasonable than the premade lengths. 5:54
I wonder how they ever became a highly successful multi generational farm without you telling them what to do all these years?
I like the ultrasound pictures on your refrigerator door there's a whole bunch of them I just saw it kudos to you Chet

12:40 Put 60 heavy on it. It has a thicker sidebar and resists stretch.

Lot's of projects started, many done, many not...
Yeh, the chores and projects keep us coming back..and entertained.
Hello Chet Doug and the rest of the team at Larson Farms from Alberta ❤
Load up the snowmobiles and head for Florida!

Always have a laugh at your guys expense Chet 😂😂😂 thanks good the B .S made it back in one piece 😂

Try Irish Soap bars too
This is really awesome! Humility with success is a unique trait.

HI good evening Larson farms from Indiana
Fun video as always love watching you guys working hard all the time or working smarter

I use bounce dryer sheets to keep the mice away. Love the videos!
Excellent video! Chet reading the instructions is impressive. I don't read instructions because I went to night school and can't read in the daytime.

Lots of work nice to have the Swede back. Maybe a update on Chris or a hello would be great to see him.
Thanks

Chet, invest in a set of chain breakers, they really work.
nice ride along - always -
If it starts leaking worse, Then you do the repairs. A little leak is only annoying. 5:54
How many times are you going to tell them what to do?
Mac,s has tractor cab insolation.
For the crawler.
Awesome video Chet 🚜🚜🚜
Another good episode. Really enjoyed the old cowboy music while getting after that heavy chain.
I haven't seen the tippy spout arrive for the new air force 1, let's go chet. Air force 1 should have all the best stuff.
some of those sprockets are 'sharks-toothing' - that's the other part you have to watch. (I'm a bicycle mechanic :)
I did enjoy the video. It's fun to see you getting all of that preventative maintenance done. I do have a concern though. I didn't see you do anything to prevent those mice from moving back into the dozer again. It won't take the long.

Good thing you have long arms on the knife replacement. Guessing Body would not been able to reach them without a stretch.
Be glad you’ve never ate a concave! We had one break off on a 670, destroyed the top sieve and then went through the chopper. 😬😬
Chet how's JM doing l hope well. Congratulations on the good hunting big swede
Kinda creepy asking about another man’s wife.
Love the Vids!
You should get yourself conveyor belt, and put it down when you bring these machines in the shop so you don’t tear up the concrete
I wonder how they made it all these years without you telling them what they should do?
Liquid tape is the best
Glad to see the Swede back.
Now make sure you put the anti-mice devices into the dozer
Good Lord Chet!, you've got to be at least one of the top five farm channels on the interweb. time to tell John Deere to take a hike. Get something reliable.
Chet, you gotta fix those cabinet handles. My OCD is going nuts!
Try putting dryer sheets in the cabs of your equipment. The mice don’t like the smell and they stay away!
You should look into a bolt bin like Zach Johnson recently got.
A good Auto Upholstery shop can make the headliner from scratch, probably for less. Next time, call around and get estimates. I had one reproduced for a Corvair, and Far better sound & thermal insulation. than the original.
Now put Cinnamon sticks in headliner and around the cab mice will stay out.
great video
chet put bouce dryer sheets in your equipment keeps the mice out
Chet Dougo Eric Broodie great explanations on the cutter blades cat dozer harvester s and Dougos bolt cabinet that are over full
We need a 1086 video.
Just buy the bigger chain breaker.
If ur not bolt for the cold Go farm in azalea
I dislike winter well said
Learned something new to try, crack chicken!
Glad you got your mule Erik and returned safe. The editors obviously cut out part of your story about the trip. 😢
Get a can of bull snot, it will eliminate any mouse smell you have.
Did you put something in there so the mice don't go back in like a deterrent?
Deere wanted the rod because that's what failed to figure out why the block they didn't care it was never designed to hold rod in.
How are you getting on with John Deere Right to Repair issues? regards from Ireland😀
It’s a myth. You can clearly see them working on their equipment themselves.
Love it
you can make a headliner... it's just cardboard, foam, cloth and glue
Those are 2024 rocks in the box, ya need to dispose of them and get some 2025 rocks come spring.
Y’all need to get Pepsi as a sponsor.
Chet what flashlight do you guys use? Great video welcome home Eric nice to see you made it back from Mexico on your hunting venture..
The mighty 1086!!👍
Take it from me, wear good ear protection when using grinders and air tools. I'm Dougo's age and already need hearing aids.
Are you guys going to the National Farm Machinery Show?
I saw a Service truck leaving?
Was that a IH 1088??
Safety is no accident, a face shield will protect your mug if that cutting wheel comes apart, and it will.. for those that know,we’ll you know….
Ok safety Sam
Get that dash fix?
This👍👍❤
Chet, it's concrete not cement
No one asked
Big Swede didnt bring back any JD parts from JD headquarters? El-Molinia San-illenoisaja
Swed you could come to Canada and hunt real deer.
Brilliant video but just need to be about 45 minutes long
Why not get a new S7 900 or a 1100
No such word as boughten.. home schooling 😂
buy the head liner come on
👍🏽
Mother Deer, lol
You are gonna HATE the rig come summer. The insulation and sound deadening is now non-existant.
It must be nice to live the rich life!!
What rich life. Most every machine is leased as they are far too expensive to buy outright. One bad season will bring most farmers unstuck.
I hate to say it but due to the sponsor pitches and all the adds it has become insufferable to watch your content. Yinz are not the only content that I more recently find insufferable to watch on TH-cam.

Maybe start your own TH-cam channel and do what you want.
Trump is going to fix your John Deere problem.
There’s always that one piss ignorant clown that brings up politics.
