While changing from the bucket to the stump digger, Chris is gawking out the side window and talking to the camera.., all at the same time ..not even looking what he's doing and still don't miss a beat.. I can't watch this video and eat a sandwich without missing my mouth...the man is definitely coordinated on the joy sticks
not to fast, the tailgate is great for dirt, you can haul more. Just need to adjust the brush/log sizes or just use Barney for brush and Fred for dirt when convient.
Ya but no.. Id yank that gate and pile the dirt on top... Not going far enough to let it matter.. Not going down the road 30min or more.. Although i do wonder if a different gate design that maybe swings down and under and pins up would be worth it..
I love watching you work your machines, the little girl in me squeals with joy. It always fascinates me how you take scrub woods and turn it into beautiful landscaped property. The change in this land from the day the new 220 was unloaded here to now is night and day. Thank you for sharing this with us, Chris.
To avoid jamming on the tail-gate, maybe attach a low fence at the front edge along the top end of the bed so that longer logs can be stacked with their high end to the front instead of resting on the tail gate, to get in the way.
Really good that Fred worked great but that patience tester tailgate has to come off. Loved the cold start on the 'flappy cap' d6 - must have been cold working it though. Area has cleaned up really well.
@Chris about your comment on things not being fun... I totally understand that, but it sure can be entertaining to watch...part of this whole experience is just hanging out with you and going along for the ride. Honestly you go above and beyond with the camera angles and stuff..and we sure do appreciate it. But definitely dont think you have to do anything extra to entertain us.. like I said, were just along for the ride.
Chris my wife and I agree taking that tail gate off would make your job a lot easier plus looks like you need a dozer with a cab , would not want you to be be a popsicle 😀
I think on a serious note for what you do removing the tailgate is a plus end if the loss of capacity without the tailgate I would just extend the sides up
I do like the new truck. But, I can see that tail gate in the end becoming a pain. For sure it allows you to carry more likes of gravel or crushed concrete or dirt. But when comes to rubbish material which has trees in it. All they are going to do is get caught up in the tail gate and either stop the full load from coming out or only partially coming out. Its a tough one leave the tailgate on... or remove it... I guess would come down too what is likely to be carried most and how frequently. I guess if loading it with wood rubbish then you can carefully stack it in there just a bit more time and care needed and in some ways cannot load it as you could without the tailgate fitted. Good video thank you for sharing and for all your work in putting these out to us. Keep safe everyone.
Considering what a job site looks like after taking down a bunch of trees you sure do a good job of cleaning up the mess that was made. There’s no way to get every little stick with a rake on a dozer but you leave very little for the owners to pick up if they choose to. It will all return to dust in a few years anyway.
Hey Chris DP found the tailgate useless on the loaner Hyundi dump truck Aaron got a stump stuck under the tailgate.great idea for dirt and mud not for hauling logs, like they different horses for different courses😅😅😅😅 Kym Adelaide
It's amazing how Chris can take an unholy mess loggers left behind and turn it into a beautiful pasture. That property owner definitely got his money's worth. I can see exactly how Chris could turn that tailgate into being a convertible on / off / back on type. Good for brush and logs or dirt/mud and small debris.
I know that gate was getting on your nerves , when you was putting those logs in there and they wasn't gonna fit !! lolol... I said, Nope !! He's taking that thing off asap !! Yeah, I know that was cold running the dozer !! But, Your on the down stroke now on that one !! Great as Always Chris !! Have a Great Evening, And, On too the Next !! Stay Warm Man !!
Chris don’t you ever say you are boring again I love to watch you doing anything lol I can’t say how much I appreciate everything you do by the way I heard how much you love that tailgate all the way down here in Alabama lol 😂 😂😂
until you start dredging mud the gate is just a henderince, the d6 is one machine you don't have to worry about starting, ha ha there's a heater in the kamatsue
Chris, try leaving the logs with the long piece on the head board and the other end inside of the tail gate, so when you raise the bed every thing slides out together..fun watching. 😀
I don't watch every day, but I do see enough to know when something is impeding progress! From land owners to the flu, we can see Chris. The tailgate has to go to the barn! And you were teasing the other TH-cam folks by picking up the diesel bucket 🪣 without spilling a drop the other day! And we always need a good fire 🔥.
@@thatdave86 DP deliberately stacked that to jam. He could have had a clean dump but chose to jam it for a comment generator. Just saying, he does that some times for TH-cam ratings. Much like he pours used oil on undercarriage parts to get everyone saying he has a leak when it is not leaking.
I agree tailgates are a useless for clearing. But it works better hauling logs if they hang over the front of the bed instead of laying on the tailgate. They’ll slide out that way. But regardless take it off and pray you never need it.
Awesome video Chris love watching everyone of them yea I'm like you the tail gate needs to go make things a hole lot easier we got 10 inches of snow in Milton Florida hope you didn't get much now there talking about another wave coming lord help us lol
Nice job you are an expert at making areas you cleared look great, You are 100% correct, unless one hauls a lot of mud/wet fill have the tailgate bronzed and hung on a wall! Ray
Chris I know how you can make tree removal interesting. Every once in a while make a tree fall the opposite way from where you want it to go. 😂😂😂 You keep knocking down trees and we will keep watching.
After several years of following Chris and seeing the amount of brush hauled versus the amount of dirt he has to do for his work schedules, that tailgate needs to be kept in reserve for that job that he needs to haul mud...
Chris, you don't have to remove the entire tailgate. Leave the cables and lift arms on the truck unbolt the flat gate part. It looks like 6 bolts, and then lift the plate with any excavator. Just reverse the process to haul dirt.
You warm weather guys may not be aware of this but on most of the older Cats you could reverse the fan blades so the engine heat is blowing towards the operator.
It is best to leave the tailgate at home until a dredging job or some other sloppy mud job comes up. Doesn't look overly complicated to add and remove, as long as there is an excavator nearby to lift it.
Tailgates only good for hauling stone for roads and dirt and you proved that. D6 isn't messing around. It's cold let get it done. Thanks Chris getting the job done everyday. Have a good evening. Stay warm.
Now that you have a truck with a gate how about trying to flip the gate for hauling brush. Disconnect the cables, lift it up and over with the excavator. Put a tie strap on it so it can't flop down while dumping. If that works add a couple chains to hold it and tie the cables out of the way. Then when you need to haul dirt it's there and if you haul brush it's out of the way.
However a great Work what You make with the Excavator and Dozer. The Tailgat by the new Truck, is good and not good. It com3 of the Load Material on. Thanks for the always Interesting Video.
I've noticed you have'nt done any dredging jobs for awhile. do you have any in the works? Pond builds are definitely more exciting, but your true professionalism on ALL your jobs is a testament to your work ethic. GREAT JOB SIR!!!!!!!!!
Should you put the longer logs leaning on the front of the bed, not of the tailgate as it will try to come up as you raise the bed. We'll see. I think the logs, leaning on the front of the bed would slide under the tailgate.
Chris, next time you talk with Volvo sales, you should tell them that they could advertise the excavator as a chain saw un sticker. Stay warm and safe. That tailgate has caused a great deal of comments, now all you need is a broke mirror.
I'm also interested to see the process of removing the tailgate and to see if you come up with a way or rigging to be able to install and remove it quick and easy as needed. There are definitely times when you could benefit from the gate... just not brush and super sticky wet clay😂

I will be glad when it gets warmer and can do ponds again.
Chris, remember to check with Volvo if it OK to remove the tailgate. It migth support the sides. It could be an expensive mistake to remove it
I’m pretty sure the body is robust enough to use without the tailgate. Cheers
@@patkyne5534 Yes it is, bed is steel
They’re made to be removable, the mounts are on all the trucks, it’s extra for the tailgate
The tailgate is an option, not standard
Looks like the new truck will make it self right at home .
You say the pond jobs are the most fun?
How about breaking Rock at a Veterinary Clinic, if I remember correctly you loved that job. 😊
And if I recall correctly, your only break was you going to rescue another excavator stuck in mud.
Chris, you need to tell us how you really feel about that tailgate.

That D6 stack needs some height. The black soot on the rail is not becoming of LD18 equipment.

Chris. Put the end of the logs in against the tailgate first and the long end over the cab.
And take a chance of bending the cab, I don’t think so !!!
Amazing work bro
Stands to reason the tailgate would be a problem dumping brush
Fascinated by tree clearing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It appears you don’t remember the year of mud. Remember, when you were clearing silt job after silt job?
I bet this job seems the job that never ends. But by god Chris you have turned that site around. Well done

Awesome job as always Chris 👍🏻🙌🏻
Those tailgates are good when you are dregging and have to transport that runny mud someplace else.
If anything you do have excavators which makes reattaching the tail gate easy enough 😊😊😊
I think that if you are going to spend much time hauling brush in Fred that the tail gate should go into storage.
