    Impressive win. Dessouky stayed calm and focused even at three matchballs down, the change in his mental resilience over the past year is quite amazing. Farag as always a class act, much respect to him!

      Very little I love more in squash than getting to see some of the talented young hotshots master their emotions enough to pull off a comeback like this. Dessouky used to be a mess.

    so good to see Dessouky finally living up to his massive potential. I hope he's able to display this focus and determination against less clean players than Farag in the future. I'm sure he'll be a strong contender for top 3 or even top dog if he does

    • @BrooklynHandBall10

      I agree, he's able to remain focused and calm now, but with humble and clean players like farag.. But with ultra dirty players like marwan.. That'll be the test to his new mental focus.

    Very few players have the unique combination of power and touch that Dessouky has. To be able to hammer the ball as hard as he can while also feathering the most delicate drop shots is amazing. One of the most talented players I've ever seen and if he can stay strong mentally, could soon be at the top. Has now beaten Farag and Momen 2 tournaments in a row!

    Dessouky's mind control, self-possession is brilliant now! And his racket speed is so powerful! His shot is so strong even though with his compact swing...So good to see his level-up T.T But anyway, the stroke decision at the fourth set... I cannot believe it... It is so tough for Farag. I hoped that Dessouky win this match, but not in this way T.T

    A shocker of a decision at the end of the 4th set there.........how the referee ever gave that as a stroke is beyond me.......ludicrous. Fares won the match in the end however....well done to him.

    • @petereedy6092

      No disrespect to Dessouky, but I felt that he 'created his own interference' here by crowding Farag, and then running into Farag whilst Farag was still the striker (i.e. before the ball had come off the front wall)--and it didn't appear to be a winning shot situation. For me, that was a let at the most
      Unfortunate that it happened at such a critical point in the match

    I watched most of all 4 quarter finals live - has to be one of hardest contested set of matches in squash history. Even in the one that didn't go to 5 games, Salem could have extended it with more discipline. As for Dessouky he really does seem to have got his temperament under control and just plays great squash when he plays his natural (and outstanding) game.

    Dessouki played very well towards the end there.. the big mistake he was making in the middle two games was hitting poor drop shots which hit the sidewall too early. Farags quick counters were often too much for him, and Dessouki consequently hit a tin. When he started to add pace and hit dying cross-courts the match completely shifted. Very well played!

  • @samfrain6623
    @samfrain6623 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Looked like a quality game but that was never a stroke on match ball for Farag. Dessouky took the line towards the player when there was a perfectly good line to the ball. Problem is that it encourages that kind of behaviour. We see it time and again when players just run to the opponents back with their racket up.

    • @ciaster

    • @Syko12341
      @Syko12341 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I think the stroke was the correct decision. Farag purposely took an exaggerated amount of space to block Dessouky. He then made zero effort to clear. The shot was definitely not an outright winner and Dessouky would have been able to return had Farag cleared from the his path.

    • @samfrain6623
      @samfrain6623 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Syko12341 Disagree. If you watch it back and focus on Farag's movement after he strikes the ball, he is instantly moving his weight back towards the T, but collides with Dessouky because Dessouky has basically jumped on his back. He doesn't have a change to get out of the way. Even if he did, there's more than enough space to Farag's right and there would have been even more had Farag's movement back to the T not been blocked.

    As much as I admire Fares Dessouky's great play here, I remain concerned that players are often being awarded strokes when they have crowded the striker and then run into that player whilst that player is still the 'striker' (i.e. their ball is yet to hit the front wall). In this case, at Ali Farag's match ball in the fourth game, Dessouky is already all over Farag before Farag's ball is hitting the front wall -- leaving Farag no opportunity to clear. As well as this, it didn't appear to be a 'winning shot' situation for Dessouky (see this just after 5:00)
    I acknowledge that it's easy to be an 'armchair referee', but felt that should have been a let at the most (or even no let, with Dessouky having 'created his own interference'?)
    Having said all that, it was a wonderful effort by Dessoouky, particularly against a player of Farag's calibre. It's good to see that Dessouky appears to have 'conquered his demons' (I still recall from a couple of years ago him walking off before a match was complete after disagreeing with some refereeing decisions)

    Stroke against Farag @ 5:10 is plain wrong. There's been too many at this tournament where the ball has been played tight to the wall and a stroke has been given against the one who played the shot despite the opponent taking the wrong line or being nowhere near playing the ball, as here with Dessouky (holding his throat). Sort it out!!
