Great video Mike glad to see you getting it to turn over. Just have to figure out why no spark. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Mike and Andrea.
One of the worst things is a Coil mounted Upside Down like that one is. The contacts in the top when it's that way get coated with the sludge from the bottom of the case. Get a new coil and a wire that will reach the dist cap and try it again.
Hi Mike, great video. I was a little unclear as to weather you had power at the + terminal at the coil. If not try running a jumper wire from the battery to the coil. Also a better way to check for spark is to check by pulling the coil wire off of the cap and hold it near a ground.
Parking lights operate on the first detent on the h/l switch. Headlights operate on the second detent, which turns off the park lights. Wipers are vacuum, as stated.
Late 47s and 48s were indistinguishable they has the word loadmaster or thriftmaster in the chevy signs on the side of the hood..49s didn't have that small detail. 5s had 31OO in small letters under the chevy sign on the sides of the hood51s had a vent window, 52s had vent window and push button door handles. 53s didn't have the chevy signs hoodside but had 31OO in bold numbers..54s has the 31OO in bold numbers, the T gtill, one piece windshields and the bed outer sides no longer on 45 degree but flat..early 55s had all those things the 54s had but had a plstic hoodside signs withe the name chevrolet under neath 31OO..and they also had an open driveshaft.. these are the difference in those models of chevrolet..if you memorize them you can walk up to any model and know what year it is..Paul age 86 in Ohio..
The lights in the grill are parking lights. The wipers are vacuum. The wiper switch is a vacuum switch. Try and determine what is run, and what is accessories, and what is off on the key switch. Remember this truck is seventy odd years old and possibly modified more than once. Something to bear in mind after you get it running: between the intake manifold and head some sheet metal tubes are inserted to prevent air leakage. If someone has left these out, the engine will run, but not properly. If your local library is one of the ones that holds on to old books,an old Motors Manual or one of the other one size fits all reference books can be a great help. Keep having fun. Tell Andrea her flowers look very nice. Take care.
Hey Mike, have ya seen the new ZR1 Vette? Twin-Turbo, 1064Hp, one video said 800 pounds of torque? whew .........get a coil, cap-Roter-points, and plugs and plug wires and do yourself a favor rewire the key should be a key and button to start.
So frustrating watching a five minute troubleshoot turn into a blundering saga. I thought you would have known what to do with owning all those old 'Vettes.
Being 6 volt, it is possibly positive ground. Considering it’s a new battery, it doesn’t seem to be turning it over real fast, but with its age it could be anything, but I would check positive earth first. Get your Dad over and he would get it going before lunch.
Mike, first off replace points/rotor/comdemser amd coil. Secomd the wipers are vacume and don/t work if the engine aint runnin. Also check the ole girl isn;t still wired pos ground. It's eother ignition or fuel.
I just had another idea to paint on the doors... How about this:"Mike And Andrea's Garage... Specializing in.. Peterbilt Logo,Kenworth Logo and Corvette Logo". A bit less wordy.. lol😅!!
GMC’s were positive ground. Chevy’s were negative ground. This is for US trucks. No telling about Canadian trucks. I have read that some Canadian Chevy trucks came with GMC engines and vice versa. If this is true, proceed carefully. Mike’s (Andrea’s) truck has the 216 Chevy engine. Take care.
Sorry Mike, got frustrated with your vid. I appreciate your making a vid and trying to get the motor to start but, to me I couldn't see a logical step by step check of the electrical components. And as other people have said a vehicle of this age will be + Earth. Please dont take offence......but get better help.

Thanks for the tip, I'm learning more and more about these old trucks.

You had me a bit concerned when you pointed at the voltage regulator and said “don’t know what that does “. 😮😉
I love your wife’s description of the parts. My wife and I both laugh at that.
You will get it sorted out. The old girl even has a heater.
Ground is important.Make a good one between engine and frame. Good formthe light etc.!!!

The engine is rolling the correct direction, so the battery should be connected correctly.
after all years there might been a mouse or two playing with the wires. it turns over and that a start.
Mike remember that truck runs on regular gas with lead in it, not low lead you don't want to burn up your pistons!! How about a timing lite also!!!
Puddinsfab shop is the man you need to speak to mike 😊 love these episodes
I'll have to check him out. I'm kinda loving these old trucks
@@mikesgarage6331 Jacob at puddins fab shop is the man when it comes to carbs and points etc
Wipers are probably vacuum operated so engine has to be running.
Karl says "it ain't got no gas in it

hey mike what is that black wire with the gray post go to
Have you tried to Jack up the radiator cap and putting a different truck under it?
A Chevy stove bolt 6 will run just use your hanky, blow on the spark plugs.
Git your Dad out there he can git it running.
I bet his Dad could figure it out with his vast level of mechanical knowledge....

Yeah I love these backyard pros that for the most part don't know their ass from a hole in the ground
Would that be a positive ground
Jennings motor sport on here plays around with a lot of vehicles of this era and older. Maybe watch some of his videos
I'll have to check him out
'47 Chevy's 1.5 ton truck that no name?
and I want to know which transmission have it,
also u need tell me how many gears this thing has...
I just had another idea to paint on the doors... How about this:"Mike And Andrea's Garage... Specializing in.. Peterbilt Logo,Kenworth Logo and Corvette Logo". A bit less wordy.. lol😅!!
Or better yet..."Mike and Andrea's Garage.. And underneath a Peterbilt Logo,a Kenworth Logo and a Corvette Logo."..
Lol😅!!
And... Even better yet...how about the 3 logos in Alphabetical order??-( Corvette, then Kenworth, then Peterbilt logos).... Pretty cool 😎I think...
Needs a new coil or condser
I've got a new coil and condenser is on the way....
Youuu don’t need to worry about bare wires. They’ll barely even short out and start a fire
What would cause the cables to be hot
Resistance, which is lose or poor connections.
start it up
💯
Sorry Andrea. Its too good for yard art. You will have to find another. 😂😂😂😂
Watch some TH-cam videos there’s a lot of them out there they’ll show you how to start this old truck
Thanks Joe 👍
Wow
Really dude? Those are vacuum wipers the motor has to be running, and you obviously do not understand how the lights work on those old trucks
That is correct I did not know but I do now.
🙄oh boy!🙄🙄🙄🙄

You have your leads wrong positive to earth not negative to earth .
get a jump switch
This old chevy has a mechanical starter solenoid operated by foot through the fire wall.
