I've always thought beater hybrids (though this is definitely not a beater lol) were the most calming vehicles to drive in the snow. idk why. maybe it's cuz of its simple and airy feeling interior along with a relatively quiet drivetrain.
The Prius used to be a joke car but what Toyota has done with the new one, giving it more power and an attractive design has made all the difference, I never thought I would ever consider the Prius as a desirable vehicle, but I really like the new one.
Idk who/what team was responsible for this new Prius design, but, thank you. Cause of you, I now want a Prius, and I NEVER thought I'd be saying that. Fully loaded as well. It's a damn good looking car. Who would've thunk in 2024/25 a Prius would be wildly desired for looks alone?
Originally I saw a lot of people want to buy this Prius. But and then Toyota released the Camry Hybrid at similar price point... now I wonder why would anyone buy a Prius anymore.
Recently bought one for my wife at MSRP after 3 hours of squeezing the dealer to remove all their extra add ons. So it is possible! We got a 2024 XLE model in cutting edge paint and we absolutely love it. In one instance with mixed traffic on the highway in LA, the car said we got 69 mpg for an hour of driving which was absolutely crazy. It can easily be hypermiled if needed, or driven like a zippy go kart. Visibility isn’t too bad if you’ve driven a car without any sort of reverse cameras or sensors. But it’s certainly not as good as a Corolla’s or Camry’s visibility. That’s the cost of having a striking design on the new Prius. On the first full tank, the Prius managed to do 455 miles before needing to be refueled. I’m sure once the break-in period is over it will go even higher. One last thing is that all the Prius models we saw on the lot look perfectly built. No panel gaps or small imperfections that I could see, as opposed to small interior panel gaps I saw on the new Camry. Gotta love a car when the VIN number starts with a J.
I just bought a Hybrid Civic Hatchback Sport Touring, the Prius seems significantly slower in comparison. That torque number seems wrong considering the Civic has 232ftlbs. of torque. I'm on my first tank still, haven't gotten the hyper-mile business started yet but I assume I'll see very similar MPG's. The interior on the Civic is also bigger. In my opinion, the only place the Prius wins is with looks on the outside. Yea, the Civic doesn't have rear passenger amenities but not everyone needs them. My rear seats only see my dog and folded down for a mountain bike. Google built-in is lovely. Your video on the Civic Hybrid was one of the main videos I used to buy one. I already had a '23 Sport Hatchback but it got terrible MPG's. Mostly city with tons of AC use down here in Florida. Traded it in for the Hybrid. Got that end of year, end of month MSRP discount. Walked out the door with a $31k MSRP + fees and shit for the top trim in Boost Blue.
13:10 Test drove a Prius XLE AWD last week. The engine noise just turned me off from considering getting a Prius. So loud, so unrefined, so coarse. Also the wind noise from the windows at highway speeds. Not to mention the tsunami of cheap hard plastic everywhere. Getting into my Mazda 3 after test driving the Prius was like getting into a luxury car. I don’t drive that much, and even with Prius’s 50 MPG rating I’d saving about $60/month on gas compared to the Mazda 3. Going to keep the 3 for a few more years until something better comes along.
Honestly, I don’t understand why Honda and Toyota both seem to cheap out on engine isolation. Even my Ioniq Hybrid has better isolation than the Hondas and Toyotas I’ve driven since 2017. Slightly better materials too on the inside. Also, 19” wheels on the Prius definitely doesn’t help with road noise.
I have same with any Toyota Hybrid. I be in one that's driven by someone else or is a taxi and I'm like... yeah this is actually pretty comfortable and quiet, you can hear the electric motor and when stopped no idle sounds.... then I drove a Toyota Hybrid and realised you need to drive really efficient and be light on the throttle otherwise the engine will kick in and out a bunch and is super thrashy with the eCVT.
Honestly, Toyota Prius is way better choice than a Mazda 3, whether you drive a lot or little. because it is not only economical but also reliable and its resale value is beyond any other brand. It is like an investment. A Hyundai on the other hand is silent money pit at best. If, we include Euro junk into this, too, Toyota Prius is a GEM.
@@squidproquo2241 No, not worth it when the savings are only $60/month and my car is only 3 years-old. I might have pulled the trigger if the Prius has an ounce of refinement in it. Alas at $36k I get an interior that was from a 90's Tercel with a lawn mower engine soundtrack.
i never expected to see a Prius and find it to be attractive. this is a very nice looking car. 18 Titan P4X & 17 Camaro SS in my garage currently. 10m drive to work lol. if that ever changes, id could see myself getting one of these. but the others are just too much fun without that need. and the camaro can get low 30s on the hwy if babied lol. cheers.
Chris and Genuine Substitute Topher, Happy New Year! 🥳 I think shoppers looking for an AWD Toyota Hybrid car would be much better served by a Camry. For the record, cold weather and winter blend gas impact every vehicle's mpg. 😉

I have had this exact model since April. I was worried about how capable it would be in the snow since I live in an area that gets a lot of it. I've been really impressed. I had a Subaru Crosstrek as my last vehicle. The Crosstrek did have more ground clearance but the Prius seems to put the traction down as well or better and gets probably twice the MPG.
Really bummed we didn't get to see the Prius on the track... A Prius vs Tacoma on the track video would be awesome! jk jk! Happy new Years and thank you for all your reviews! I am a proud GR Corolla owner b/c of your reviews. I am 4 and a half months in and Love my GRC!
The new Prius is…. I really like it I can’t lie. I’d probably trade in my civic for one if I saw it at my local dealership. That’s a crazy thought for me as a Honda fanboy
I considered the Prius when I bought my 2024 Venza back in July. Unfortunately they didn't have any Prius's or Rav4 hybrids in stock at the time. Just wanted to see what @TheTopher or anyone else thought comparing the Venza to the Prius. Personally still loving my Venza and the extra room inside and higher clearance while still getting 39 mpg.
The Toyota interior materials always look odd to me. It displays a sheen from the daylight that makes it look rubbery. Not necessarily cheap but kinda gaudy looking. Other than that, I love the direction Toyota is going in with the Prius, Camry and Crown vehicles!
I have to say any new parents the best place for a car seat is in the middle if possible. For obvious side impact reasons (getting t-boned by a truck for example) and that side airbags and car seats don't get along.
I was so disappointed when I sat in there. Love the styling, but at 6’3’’ with torso and legs proportional, my head’s stuck in the roof liner. Plus, that A pillar is so tick that I couldn’t see a thing, especially on my right, which got me worried for pedestrians and cyclists. A bad for a good, however, since I turned my attention to a base BZ4X AWD. I LOVE that car. Easily up there in the favourite cars I’ve owned, only beaten by my beloved and missed 2013 MK6 GTI.
