Funny story about Terry Molloy! I was at Whofest 3 in Texas and i was walking by a booth and I was greeted by this very kind enthusiastic old man. He asked if i would like to buy a print of davros. I thought that i would also have to go elsewhere to get him to sign it. I was so oblivious! I made the remark, "In my opinion Terry Molloy is the BEST davros." And then a VERY familiar voice retorted, "You know I think you are probably right." Then it clicked. I was so excited! I talked to him for about 8 minutes about how much i loved his performances, and when it came tim to finally pay for the signed print, i was $3 short. And Terry Molloy said, "It's ok, i'll give you an exclusive fan discount!" Best interaction with a celebrity EVER. I still have that print. It reads "AH! JEREMY... EXTERMINATE THE DOCTOR!!!"

That’s really cool. A few years ago I was at San Francisco comic con where Matt Smith was doing photo ops and autographs. Because I have a muscular disability I have a really hard time waiting in long lines. But when it was my turn to get the photo I got the photo said thank you and went on with my day. When I went to go pick up my print of the photo it didn’t show up properly. So I went back to the line where the photo ops were and got a second one. What I like about this story is they were wrapping up and Matt could have easily said no to a second shot as Bonnie Wright needed the space for her photo op. But he was totally accommodating and nice.

When I was ten I thought they were the most badass thing I'd ever seen, and I still think they hold up pretty well compared to some other Doctor Who villain attire - the black leather/gray fabric combo, the Vader-esque helmets, and the guns with the handguards that made them appear to be an extension of the person's arm. It's not hard to imagine how they could be given a streamlined 2019 makeover.

  • @theoutcastboi

I think the story gives a reason for why the troopers are there. Basically there aren't too many Daleks left because of the Movellan virus, so the Daleks have been forced to use clones to boost their numbers. As well as that, I guess the troopers can handle the Movellan virus safely, so the fact they've got a stockpile of the virus stored on Earth isn't really a plot hole, because the Daleks aren't actually on Earth, but have agents there. Presumably they were left there by the Movellans at somepoint and the Dalek clone duplicates are collecting these in order to destroy them all safely at a point before the Dalek invasion.

This Dalek story is both the product of 80s action and Seward writing.
It has the same grittiness as the Caves of Androzani but just as good.
The action, mortality and violence was both a symbol of the darkness that Doctor Who was becoming and the 5th Doctor at his finest.
Terry Molly’s Davros is the highlight of the series.
    The most famous quote is...
“I am Rather Difficult to Kill”.

I should note a few things that firstly this time the voices of the Daleks are the late Royce Mills and Brian Miller who’s married to Elisabeth Sladen until her death in 2011, Second ‘And the most obvious one’ Second Terry Molloy is Darvos through the rest of the classic series and of course Big Finish Production, And thirdly this story was originally going to be the finale of the 20th season, But that didn’t happen until the 21st season happened, While I agree this is a mess story wise I still enjoyed it.

As much as I like this dalek story, I really wish the DVD had had a new FX feature. As this story badly needs a Day of the daleks like treatment. As the dalek trooper and Space Station crews guns just shoot by flashing lights with no laser beams coming out making them look more like their playing laser tag.. even as a kid I wondered how do those guns kill people if they just Flash a light? Also in some scenes instead of the negative filter used when a dalek shoots somone, theres just a fiant white glow.. I'm guessing it may have been due to the rushed production of season 21, and while there have been fan edits with new visuals I would like to see see the official remaster of this story.

I too would be hoping if they release a Blu-Ray collection for Season 21 they update at least some of the effects.
That said, boring as the guns are visually, they're actually pretty realistic for how a genuine laser weapon would behave. (for instance: th-cam.com/video/q4Oknc8onG8/w-d-xo.html )
Unless the beam was on a visible light wavelength you wouldn't see it. Although you would expect a hole to appear in someone or for them to smoulder/burst into flames.

I used to have several ideas about Stein, and his confusing story. I think I've found a feasible explanation.
When Lytton's men were duplicated, Stein was selected to be a further lure for the Doctor's capture. As well as his original memories, and his eventual conditioning, he was given false memories so as to create a backstory as one of the many captures prisoners.
The Daleks were able to monitor the Doctor's progress through Stein, and they would guide Stein's actions through some form of subconscious suggestions, eventually leading him to travel in the TARDIS to the Dalek ship.
As soon as he arrived, the Daleks deactivated his false memories and reactivated his Dalek conditioning, hence his striking change of character when he leaves the TARDIS.
As for how the DALEKS could monitor Stein from inside the TARDIS and on Earth, I don't know, but it's just an idea I had.

    • @CountScarlioni
      @CountScarlioni 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This makes sense. Even in Nu-Who Dalek agensts don't know they're working for the Daleks until activated. Stein doesn't consciously know he was working for the Daleks until he reaches the ship. Before then I imagine the programming was just prodding him in the right direction here and there to gain the Doctor's trust. Stein was almost certainly also the unwitting reason the escaped prisoners were tracked by Lytton's mercenaries and gunned down.
If the story is all based on a theme of failure, then Stein may actually be about the only figure in it who achieves a victory. He defeats his own Dalek conditioning, chooses the right side, and destroys the Dalek taskforce - taking no small amount of revenge for what they did to him.

Eric Saward and JNT have gone on record to say that they disliked this episode for a variety of reasons. With Peter Davison leaving the series, they needed to come up with a Dalek episode for his final season, a season which had been marred by a lot of stuff behind the scenes. A snap election caused production to be rushed on Warriors of the Deep, the airing clashed with the Winter Olympics forcing it to adopt a different airing format of two double length episodes, and the original director intended for the episode, Peter Grimwade, was also dropped after falling out with JNT because of an incident over dinner, being replaced with a director that hadn't worked on Doctor Who before. Plus, Saward watched everything Dalek before writing the story, but found the whole ordeal of research to be painful, save for Genesis of the Daleks, and didn't go into the project with the best of intentions. It was clear that no one was having a good time here.

This a personal favourite of mine, more because of nostalgia, admittedly (I had part 2 on video for years from when it was broadcast in '84). However, I wish it had been 3 x 45 minute episodes to flesh-out the plots better - it deserved it as there was some great ideas in it. Everyone is scheming in it apart from the Doctor and his companions who I feel are almost just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Also, this is the story that scared the crap out of everyone in the BBC building when they blew up those doors on the station to reveal the daleks for the first time! :D

Exterminate exterminate that's basically the whole story and also a very gory story and the doctor also who is actually quite a good actor Peter Davison is actually pretty good in this story and I like the idea of a Dalek agents of the Roboman and the Dalek invasion of Earth basically if I would to rate this episode I would rate it a 7/10 keep the really good episodes up and I'm waiting to see Revelation and and all that good stuff bye

Thanks for the review; I only remember the Doctor threatening to shoot Davros and Tegan leaving in this show. Not quite a show I own. Kind of got tired of Davros returning over and over starting about with this story.
Regarding favorite (favourite) Doctors, he's not been my favorite Doctor, but your summary of his character was very good, and I have an appreciation of the fact that PD found a new approach to the Doctor. My memories of if his era, however, are of a Doctor constantly overwhelmed by the circumstances and unable to do much of anything: "failure" may be the theme of this show, but it's also my memory of Doctor #5, unfortunately.

Recently listened to the Audiobook on Audible, read by Molloy (With Dalek Voices by Briggs).
I regretted it. They took one of my favourite Dalek stories & made it boring.
    * Before he even arrives on Earth in 1984, the Doctor knows the Daleks are involved, based on coding used in the Time Corridors controls.
    * Quite a lot of uninteresting exposition thrown in about minor characters.
    * Saward spent way too bloody long talking about all the fancy shit in the TARDIS.
"There's a Private Cinema & a Restaurant with a Robot Chef- I DON'T F*CKING CARE! WE GET IT! THE TARDIS IS MASSIVE! SHUT UP AND GO BACK TO THE DALEKS!!!"
    … Ahem. Sorry.
    * Saward also kept bringing up the Terileptils for some reason.
    * The Supreme Dalek speaking like the Dalek Prime Minister.
    * The Grey Daleks having designations, like Alpha, Gamma, Delta & Epsilon.
    * Somehow, after leaving the TARDIS, Tegan gains metahuman abilities like dropping from London Bridge into a barge & not even getting a scratch.

I think it works just as well in four parts as it does in two. I will give it credit that the cliffhangers for the four-part version at least feel like cliffhangers. Unlike the syndicated American version of the next year where the episodes are split up and the credits just start to roll whether there is any dramatic tension built up or not.

  • @DalekTheSupreme

I always thought of Resurrection of the Daleks as one of those middle-of-the-road (in terms of overall quality) Dalek stories alongside Planet of the Daleks and (sorry!) Asylum of the Daleks where it's flawed and either doesn't live up to its full potential or relies on contrivances, but I enjoy enough of the episode (the themes presented, the characters and their arcs, the atmosphere...) that I can't hate it. I think it's a good watch if you aren't in the mood for something amazing and don't want to subject yourself to something you hate.
Also, Terry Molloy's Davros mask reminds me of Donald Trump's face, and that makes him all the more terrifying!

AND on top of that she had the guilt of bringing cybermen into units base by no fault of her own. poor tegan.

I would say, in doing this plans at the same time, it would cement their victory. To do just one would risk retaliation. The Daleks invade Earth (again), the Doctor will stop them. The Daleks rescue Davros, the Doctor will find out, and stop them. They kill the Doctor and the Gallifrey High Command, a new High Command will be elected and annihilate the Daleks.
