Oh my god - just watched the first fifty seconds and had to stop and comment over this unfortunate and ignorant remark about pitties being misunderstood. I used to belong to the defenders of this breed, but then I worked for ten years as a CT tech in a pediatric hospital. I scanned numerous children who had been mauled by a dog - only ONE time was it a breed other than a pit bull. AND - other dogs would BITE - not MAUL. I am a former zookeeper and a huge animal lover but I now realize this truly is a dangerous breed and should only be owned by extremely responsible individuals who are highly aware of the risk.
I also was a vet tech and used to advocate for them until I saw with my own eyes multiple attacks and was a victim of one myself. My dog and I were just sitting on the couch when my friend's new pit attacked us. This breed has no place in modern society. It was bred for ONE purpose.

Yes. The problem is that most people couldn't pass a high school statistics class to save their lives. Look, genius. If 20% of dogs are Pitbulls and those dogs are physically strong, then there will be a greater percentage of bites from Pitbulls (because there are more of them) and due to the strength of the dogs, those bits will inflect more damage. This is even worse when said dogs are overbred. You know what is ten times more likely to bite? A Chihuahua. But it isn't powerful enough to seriously injure you. Should Chihuahuas be banned? I visited a shelter a couple times recently with my wife and toddler, and every dog there except for maybe one or two were pit mixes. Literally every one that was up for adoption had a “no young children” policy (10 years+). Many even had an “adults only” policy (as in, not even high-school age children could be in the adopting household). One pitbull that we walked past at the shelter was extremely aggressive on its side of the glass to my toddler. It was easy to see that he wanted to rip my son out of my arms and tear into him. One could say no harm, no foul, but in that moment, my dad instincts had me wishing for that dog to die. Shelters shouldn’t keep dogs that are that dangerous and release them back into the public. I don’t care who the owner is or what their use for the dog would be.
My local shelter is at capacity. It has 28 dogs, 27 are pitbulls or pitbull mixes.98% of those dogs have a NO kids, No cats or No dogs warning. Some of the dogs might get pulled by a rescue, some will be euthanized, but there will always be more pitbulls surrendered to replace them.
I feel this. Recently there were a couple of pits who escaped from their yard in my tiny redneck town and cornered a kid at his bus stop. Someone finally intervened and shooed them off, but that kid is in the same class as one of my kids. Can't help but fear that it could happen to you.
@@pnwviews3879 a dog that cant be around children should be euthanized. children exist in the world and you cant take a dog for a walk without running into them

My step mother rescues pits. My parents usually have 4 or 5 rescue fosters hanging around the property. It sounds admirable but I can’t ever visit them because I don’t want the dogs around my 6 year old. It’s really hard for my parents to travel because not just anyone can dog sit. People need to understand that the number of people that pits save is far greater than the number of people pits take. For every person taken by a pit ten other people are saved from drugs and alcohol by their pits. My Pugzu was attacked by a Pitbull one night this year and the dog held onto his neck for over 6 minutes. I've raised pit bulls many times over the past 20 years and been around many breeders. None of my pit bulls were viscous. However I am a firm believer in banning this breed unless it's on a farm as a working dog and regulated by the township or gov.t . I'm also open to eradicating the breed itself also I'm 50/50 Pit bulls are highly agressive breed and when they attack it's too much damage and too hard to control. They are also not highly trainable dogs due to their high energy and short attention span. It's not worth one child face being lost so that a few fanatics can have a pit bull. Ban this breed!
Good to see someone using logic and not putting his own experiences in front of his decision making. I’ve been around pits pretty much my entire life using them for hog hunting. These dogs are killers. They DO NOT STOP once they are turned on. They SHOULD NEVER be used as an in house lap dog and should never be with kids unless you keep a break stick in your pocket and are capable of restraining the dog.
This is a very fair POV. IMO pit breeding should banned entirely. It would be such a fight and in many cases unfair to run around euthanizing family pets that it would be better to put eradication on a 10-15 year timeline. Serious felony offenses for breeding, owning un-fixed dogs and dogfighting, make it illegal to transport them across state lines for shelters like this, and de-breed them. Honestly I'm not sure who's worse - ghetto dog fighting operators or "rescue groups" who bring these land sharks into the suburbs.
@helmaschine1885 as someone who has both. Cat owners are weird myself included. And don't worry my dogs were originally bred for livestock and meant to be kept with animals
Maybe in addition to the rules already in place make it a law that if your pitbull hurts a child its a ten year prison sentence! That would make people quite a bit more careful.
Owners of these killers dogs need to be fully prosecuted like by their vehicles or guns….no one can gauge or vouch for unpredictable dogs reputation. Crazy people think pit bulls safe with children when adults can’t control them either.
'I don't know if the child was crying'. What kind of domesticated pet would kill a child for crying? And for all her love of pit bulls, you can tell she thinks that's a normal thing for a dog to do. She then switched her story to 'oh, the dog was unstable' when she realized the reaction that comes from the non-pitbull crowd. Also, I think no kill has gone too far. I don't like to see any dog or cat euthanized because it's simply unwanted, but when an animal demonstrates actual aggressive behavior, it should be put down. I'd include dog and cat aggression in this, because let's face it, there's a lot less death in the long run if you eliminate the animals harming other pets. A dog or cat aggressive pit bull may kill many other pets in their lifetime, but if you euthanize them, you can spare many loving and affectionate pets a horrible and gruesome fate. The worst part of all of this is the lies. Sure, there may be other breeds of dogs that are potentially dangerous, but having entire ad campaigns and rescue groups feeding people misinformation and putting an extremely challenging breed into the hands of inexperienced dog owners is inexcusable. I don't think it'll help their cause in the long run, either. Shelters are full of animals that get returned repeatedly, you'll get case after case of shelter dogs making the news in the worst way, and people will lose their trust in shelters and rescues.
pit bulls are not more challenging than any other breed... I find them very good dogs... mayb if they have killed in the past that is different... or have been taught to b aggressive.. but if u get 1 from a puppy I don't see anything wrong with them
That's the biggest issue.. rescue groups and shelters push them out to anyone just to get them out.. and bully breeders and people with mutts pass off their unstable, human aggressive dogs as "exotic pits"
Well that is just great but they have shown with proper training even those who fight can be safe dogs again. That one football star that was caught fighting pit bulls every dog was saved. They said 12 could never be retrained but the ASPCA in NY took responsibility and after month of training they went to homes to people who have experience with them. The problem is people just assume they know about about dog and get them and they have no clue. Dog are not born bad but how they are raised can cause major issues just like people and they need proper understanding and care to get past that so they can be a dog and not met some stupid expecting of being a child or something. Meanwhile I see people make mistakes all the time by letting toddlers bother the dog while eating and all kinds of things and the parent blames the dog. Well the problem is not the dog but the kid who need to give the dog its space to sleep and eat ect.

That was the last straw and the government jumped into action banning all breeding, import and implemented strict rules for ownership. I love dogs, I really do, but statistics don't lie. If a nanny dog hears a baby cry that will be the end of the baby

I've raised pit bulls many times over the past 20 years and been around many breeders. None of my pit bulls were viscous. However I am a firm believer in banning this breed unless it's on a farm as a working dog and regulated by the township or gov.t .
I'm also open to eradicating the breed itself also I'm 50/50
Pit bulls are highly agressive breed and when they attack it's too much damage and too hard to control.
Pitbulls cant be working dogs.
Especially on a farm, are you kidding?. There would be no animals left. lol
Oh my, I found the rare "responsible dog owner" I honestly thought you all went extinct.

Maybe in addition to the rules already in place make it a law that if your pitbull hurts a child its a ten year prison sentence! That would make people quite a bit more careful.
It is like a psychopath. Friends and family all say " He was such a lovely guy I can't believe he would kill someone"
I totally agree. I was visiting the APL Website the other day to find a pet, and they had more Pit Bulls than anything, available for adoption.

pit bulls are not more challenging than any other breed...
