That is Awesome!! So glad to get you on the QRP Net tonight! Unbelievable good signal coast to coast with the conditions like they were ! Love your videos!
Steve! You're the best mate! I love yours and Kevin's net, and the banter between you guys is just magnificent.... hahahaha your comment about turning your beam to Iowa 'time to warm up the cornfields of Iowa" hahahaha, I was roaring with laughter on my end. You guys are the best! Thanks for all of your support my friend. Such a fun awesome hobby. Cheers my friend!
Thanks for watching buddy. Oh yes this stuff is awesome. Just head off into the woods with your radio, battery, coax and take some metal tape hahaha. Happy building mate! Cheers
Fantabulous experimental antenna. In the past, I've used metal tape measures for ground radial systems. But, I have yet to take the final step of using them as antenna elements. Great idea! Perfect for the upcoming ARRL Field Day. Aloha, Russ (KH6JRM).
G'day Russ buddy, woohooo! thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a comment mate. The metal tape is insane! It works so well, and what blows my mind, on my Wednesday livestream, I was basically a 1:1 SWR right across the 10 meter band, from the digital portion, to the top of the FM Portion. It works great buddy - happy building my friend Thanks for dropping by mate, and leaving a comment - cheers!
Woooo hoooo Simon! Yes, metal tape given its width also gives you a little extra bandwidth too - just like a larger diameter wire antenna! And at @5:31 I love hearing the PERformer (aka PREDator) antenna from the California central coast in action! Elevated quarterwave with 2 elevated tuned radials 90 degrees apart. Love it - loud signal! 😜73 KJ6ER
WOOOHOOOO Brother Greg, my hero! So great to hear from ya buddy. When I heard Scott and he told me his antenna set up, it totally made sense. See his signal buddy? that's your signal thundering in up here. Cheers and beers my friend! You're the best!
Woohooo g'day Rich, thanks for watching buddy and leaving a comment. hahaha. Mad is right wooohooooo! Metal tape is crazy fun. Cheers Buddy and happy building. See ya on the airwaves
"Simon McGyver". Absolutely outstanding Simon! If it conducts, it will radiate when it's cut long enough. If it's wide and flat, it will conduct RF better than thin and round. These are laws of physics that can't be broken. Keep experimenting my friend. You're doing excellent work!! 73 OM
Woohooo thanks so much buddy. I will do exactly that - keep experimenting! Infact, I've got something I'm going to try tomorrow hahaha. I love this hobby! Thanks for your kind words mate. Cheers!
Thanks so much mate. It was TOTALLY a spur of the moment 'set up and see if it works' hahaha, and it did. Can't believe it! Cheers mate, thanks for watching
Hahahaha g'day David, ya weird eh? I would have thought everything with that antenna would have been NVIS, as it was so close to the ground, and then BOOM there I am hearing and speaking to Steve all the way across the continent, almost 3000 miles away wooohooo! Cheers mate. You're the best! Can't wait to hear ya on the airwaves mate
@@thehamjazz Yes you had the same experience with the tarp antenna. Yes I have been listening out for you on the live stream, can hear American's calling you from the central and east coat. But not you.
I made an, "antenna," for someone living in an uptight, overbearing, micromanaging, homeowners association. I used metal furnace tape surrounding his attic. I just made a huge square taped to using his four walls, all the way around. He attached it to a cheap tuner and he was making contact to Uruguay from southern Saskatchewan.
Very cool, gonna have to try this as a shortwave antenna as I already use a V dipole for chasing satellites, a metal tape V should work as well, great idea! This is real prepper radio stuff, good idea mate!
Thanks so much buddy. It really receives so well. I was hearing all day how bad/terrible the band conditions were, but when I hooked up the tape and turned the radio on, you can see the waterfall on the 7300 is full. It receives beautifully! Perfect I would think for your SWL antenna. Happy building mate! Cheers
Hey there mate, I really have no clue. that's a really interesting point. All I know is the tape works, and I've tried it in various different configurations and environments. Cheers mate, happy building!

Where can I find this metal tape? Had good success in using a J pole with that old alarm lead foil on a window on the second floor. Totally stealth for VHF.
Hey buddy, thanks for dropping by... go to Facebook and type in QRP SSB and you will find their Sunday net. It's an absolute blast, and Kevin and Steve are the best! Cheers mate.

Its surprise that the thin metal tape material can take upto 100W PEP current. I believe that gets easier and wider resonance because of RF skin effect. Enjoy developing handy built antennas with QRP, Simon! 73
