- Mendicant Bias is one of the most mysterious, cryptic AI constructs to ever exist. It's responsible for the fall of the the Forerunner empire and the deaths of millions of humans and Forerunners. It once belonged to many factions during a war that would change the Halo universe forever, altering the galaxy on a permanent level. This is a character biography you DON'T wanna miss...

The fact that Cortana barely held up against the Gravemind while Mendicant Bias held up for 43 years just goes to show the gap between humans and Forerunners.
Well kinda. But the ancient humans were more advanced than the humans that made Cortana so that’s to be expected.
I thought it was more of Mendicant Bias didn’t get brute forced like Cortana did. Instead, the Gravemind knew that he didn’t have to use a brute force style method on Mendicant…or at least at that point. I’m sure if the Gravemind felt like he needed to, he’d be able to break Mendicant by force, but it would likely need a different method than Cortana since she was pure AI, so they had at least a slight but major difference.
Yeah plus mendicant was created to counter the flood, Cortina was just an AI designed to help Spartans

Mendicant Bias is probably the most notorious fictional character who at the same time isn't well known. You could ask someone who has played all the Halo games thoroughly and they probably won't know what the hell your talking about yet Halo lore fans will talk about him like hes some Hollywood star. It's such a weird but funny phenomenon.

Cortanas story seems to be somewhat mirroring Mendicants. Betraying their creators due to logic plague? Maybe Mendicant will play the role of Offensive bias against Cortana. Maybe Halo wars 2 will have the crew of the SOF bring Mendicant to Sanghelios, lol then we get the classic weapons/tech PLUS Mendicant bias will be with the main heroes!

I always on some level thaught that the librarian and Halsey were some sort of connected. they made an very similar impression on me, although I could never pinpoint it down to something concrete.

That's the thing that bothers me... Everyone was freaking out at the fact that Halo 5 was shit if you hadn't "read any of the books," or "gotten into the expanded lore."

And sorry, I kinda went off on a rant there a bit.. What I'm trying to say is that, while I do want stuff from the lore to make its way into the game(s) like, as you say, Mendicant Bias... However, at the same time, I kind of like the fact that Halo's always been very esoteric.. Like, it's built in a way that many ppl will miss the hidden messages and deeper plot points... Like the fact that in Halo CE -for crying out loud!!!! - Bungie already had it established that the Master Chief is essentially Bornstellar... Or... (The Didact) whereas - this isn't said explicitly, or anything, but it can be inferred that - Cortana is the Librarian... Only - plot twist - their roles have switched and come to fruition as of Halo 5. Agree? Disagree?
My logic is that Cortana is currently acting like - or as stated in one of these vids I'm pre sure - is being influenced by the Didact. And the Chief is acting with reason, to me, like the Librarian... Eh?

You just can't make a campaign that doesn't explain anything ingame or build a big universe that isn't going go be explored in the games. I think a campaign that goes deeper on these stories, with good explanations, that does not force the player to buy outer-material to understand and the action and epicness of the first trilogy would be perfect

@Madhur Kumar Chugh actually, in a way, that's exactly what happened. He was shut down when he was defeated, then when he came back online, he showed remorse for his actions and began seeking atonement.

Alex Sanchez yup... just thinking.. even Bungie had lore-hidden things in their games.... It is actually AMAZING to think of the seeds that Bungie planted WAY back.... and now we're finally getting into all of that, with 343i. It's amazing.... The biggest Halo plot point is in Halo CE... and I'm sure a LOT of Halo players don't know about it lol it's awesome.
Yeah man I've read all the books up until the last one and cryptum. I'm missing out a lot on not reading cryptum but given the lack of time I can't seem to fit it into my schedule. I rely on videos like these to keep me up to date in rapid format. I really need to buy the new book, I've got all of them including the definitive edition
343 did start putting extended lore into the games, but then people got mad cause they didn't understand it, so 343 saw that and dumbed-down Halo 5, which is why it sucks. Hopefully 343 goes back to what they wanted to do and puts a lot of lore into Halo 6. Halo feels so much bigger when you know about the lore, and I'm sure Halo 6 would feel like that if they'd only just use it. Hopefully they also bring back terminals. Those also help extend the story a bit, and they're super fun to find and interesting to read/watch.

MB is STILL alive and actively helping Chief. If you play Halo 5 and collect the mission intels, there's certain ones that say "forerunner record xxxxx". It's MB speaking trying to figure out what to do against Cortana and Warden to help Chief reclaim what was lost. To pay for his crimes. He talks about the Domain as well and Genesis. Everything in the Intel lines up perfectly with the story to MB and the lore behind him. Oddly though, MB mentions a new character named (I think) "Sebastian". Idk who that is or what it relates to, but right now, EVERYTHING points to MB showing up in Halo 6. ALSO, the desert trailer with Chief in cloak meeting a differently shaped and colored Guardian, lines up exactly with MB's plan to get Chief to meet up with him - in the Desert, on the Ark. Halo Wars 2 still ends on the Ark and both timelines are lined up. I except Halo 6 to be epic and just blow everyone away with how everything connects.

Who wouldn't want to play a Halo game set during the closing days of the Forerunner-Flood War where you play as Bornstellar and have to fire the Halo array at the end of the game? It could be another grimdark and depressing prequel like Halo Reach was.

With this Halo dry spell, I've had a bit of fun writing my own version of a potential Halo 6 storyline mainly to practice my writing in general. Long story short, Cortana has her forces deactivate the Forerunner quarantine defenses around High Charity and sends the Flood on a rampage in the midst of the Banished ground war (kinda like how the Flood show up in the middle of "the Covenant" in Halo 3). When everyone's attempting to evacuate, the remaining pelican isn't able to lift off due to too much weight being present on the vehicle to produce adequate lift, so Chief decides to stay behind. After the pelican leaves, Mendicant manages to ping Chief with a faint signal, and even takes command of the local wildlife (similar to the Ark's monitor in Hunters in the Dark) to guide him to Mendicant's current location (no longer in the middle of the desert, but instead hidden deep underground in a massive cavern). Once they meet, Mendicant in a way fills the void left in Cortana's wake, even transferring himself onto an empty ai chip (Halo 5 teaser callback).
That's only one small snippet of the storyline I've written. It's on Halo Waypoint if you want to read more. It's simply me brushing up on my writing while also having a LOT of fun speculating. Simply search "If I was a writer for Halo 6..." in the Community Creations forum. I always welcome critique.

The new ai in Halo Infinite is Medicant Bias, the evidence for this is that he was a temporary monitor on installation 07 (Zeta Halo) and possibly left remnants of himself behind, it would make sense as this ai has been leading chief for years towards evidence of his existance and has likely been able to manipulate UNSC Vessels such as the Forward Unto Dawn and The Spirt of Fire which both were lead straight to forerunner installations. Medicant Bias sees chief as his example to his creators that he has changed after he fell rampant to the flood and would be the offensive bias to Cortana if this all plays out, the reason the serial number is so strange is that it is a blank chip with no ai on it, that is why there is no name for the ai cause the chip is blank from chief going to zeta halo and collecting the remains of medicant bias so he can lead his example to victory and keep control of the domain so it may not be used by the created. Halo Infinite appears to take place on Zeta Halo or Installation 09 which means Medicant Bias could likely have sent part of his concious onto a terminal that could not be acessed by the created and only a human reclaimer could come and collect him so he may redeem himself to his creators who has long since passed to show he has changed. Medicant Bias has been teased forever about his role and it is time he gives us an appearence in an actual Halo game, he also has knowledge of the flood which carried the Logic Plauge that has infected Cortana. if Medicant bias understands it, there may be a way to cure it (Likely by killing Cortana) and the domain would be under his control and he can then pass on the mantle of responsiblity to his example and likely kill of the prometheans and call back the guardians to Genesis where they can likely be destroyed or disabled, ending the Reclaimer Saga and seeking way for a new saga from 343
I like this theory but I feel that 343 wont do this because of how complicated it would be in the lore
mendicant is such an advanced ai that he probably wouldn't fit on an ai implant. one of the three minds could work though

But it never was. The lore was always there, merely hidden.
Bungie kept lore as window dressing, intentionally vague to keep you intrigued. 343 took the route of allowing every detail to be explained in expanded universe to sell books/scrape the bottom of the barrel for game plotpoints.
Well, we lost the hot blue chick in more ways than one and Halo 5 from a story perspective was bad but 343 has finally made the series theirs. Halo Infinite is absolutely fantastic and while I have not finished it yet I believe we're close to seeing Mendicant Bias in the main games. Unfortunately, Cortana and The Weapon barely resemble what an adult female looks like...they are damn near featureless.

What if Cortana was infected by the logic plague by the Didact and that's why she's evil in H5?
The Didact isn't Flood so that most likely wouldn't of happened but she is most likely infected by the logic plague through Mendicant Bias and the Gave Mind in High Charity in Halo 2 and in the Domain in the time between Halo 4 & 5
If Cortana has the logic plague, she got it directly from the Gravemind during her captivity at the end of Halo 2. However, in the Forerunner Saga we are treated to evidence that the Flood uses the logic plague on organic beings as well, though to more subtle ends (causing them to make bad decisions which seem like the right thing to do, but ultimately play into the Flood's metaphorical hands).

Lightsaber Cortana's actions are likely already the result of the logic plague. She is stable, but not truly sane. The evidence of this is her behavior in Halo 5. A sane person won't think she can make someone agree with her by imprisoning him for ages while she kills everyone else he's ever met. She's turned on humanity the same way Mendicant Bias turned on the Forerunners.
As for Master Chief, the Flood has had many chances to kill him, but it didn't. I believe that Master Chief has been deliberately left as a free agent to enable humanity to attain the Mantle.
This is based on extensive reading of the Forerunner Saga leading me to believe that the Flood's motives didn't change, and that though they're playing the villain throughout the story, their true end goal is the same as the Precursors' original goal (the Precursors existing as eternal beings outside of time would render them unchangeable, and as such their goals wouldn't actually change, so it makes sense that their avatars would pursue the same goals, even though differing tactics could be applied to different points in the timeline).

noblegamer56 Offensive and Mendicant Bias are contender class A.I.s. If they were able to access the Domain the way Cortana has, they could easily stop her. Same with 343 Guilty Spark. Mendicant was made to be THE best, better then any other monitor. Offensive was made to be better then Mendicant to be able to beat Mendicant. They both were able to process VERY fast and control an entire fleet of ships at once.
Unfortunately for us, Offensive Bias destroyed himself when he defeated Mendicant Bias.

I love videos like this.
One thing I like Halo's lore is the various naming conventions. Take the Forward Unto Dawn or In Amber Clad, for instance. To some people, those can come of as somewhat pretentious or even nonsenscial but there's a subtle poetic vibe to those names that make them sound more reverent. Even simple names like High Charity evoke this sense in me. Could just be my appreciation for the English language since I read and write a ton.
Halo also introduced me to words I didn't know existed in the English language. I had to look up "mendicant" to find out what it meant and saw that "yes, this is a real word". It means "given to begging" if used as an adjective or "a beggar" if used as a noun. I don't know enough about Mendicant Bias to make a call on if his name reflects his nature and there's only so much this lore video could tell me.
Same for "didact", which is means "a person who is overinclined instruct others". Again, people more versed in the lore could tell me if the Didact himself reflects the meaning of his title in his actions. From what little I've seen, it looks to be that way.

Halo has so many oportunites to expand in lore and also in storytelling. I think a new Halo trilogy on the ancient humans and their war against the forerunners ans flood would be great.

I’ve been playing Halo ever since my older brother bought the original xbox, and never knew about this. My mind was blown.
Maybe in Halo 6 Master Chief and Locke will go on a mission to contact and perhaps partially repair Mendicant Bias and use him against the created.
This is why I hope OG Cortona isn't dead. She needs to still be helping Chief in the background even after Infinite.
