Very instructive and easy to follow. Only had issue with a boot cover at the firewall side but with a pick I got it out. My S600 drives smooth now👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Absolutely great video. Perfectly edited for instructional use. I would be able to perform the coil swap from memory seeing this video once. Thanks for posting.
If you have one of these Mercedes V12 engines, make sure you have the Exact spark plugs that came with the car! Accept no substitute!!! Also if yours is a Turbo do not use Platinum plugs, use only Iridium plugs. Also, old/worn plugs can cause your coilpacks to go bad. Maintenance is important on these cars. If you need to replace a coil pack they are about $1400 each from Mercedes, but there is a guy in California who rebuilds them for about Half the cost. It is crazy to replace a bad coilpack without installing new spark plugs as well. ***Update: I replaced my left side coilpak in May and all the spark plugs, three months later the car runs amazingly.
The only V12 I ever worked in was on my own Jagaur XJ12. In this video you can see that German engineers think about everything so that it’s easy to replace/repair... Greg work!

Just bungee cord the water to air exchanger to the hood rather than disconnecting the water lines. Plenty of room. Also use dielectric grease on the plug insulators.

Came here to see how to properly disconnect the coil pack electrical because it's been so long I forgot. Looks like someone decided to give the old college try on their own on your's. I'm going to try and leave the intercooler connected to all the coolant hoses. Bleeding that system is a royal PITA.
Excellent video. You explained this procedure very clearly. Thanks. I’ve started getting random misfires on my CL600, on the 7-12 bank on the other side of the engine. The layout is different there so it would be useful to know the procedure. I’d really like to do this job myself but I’m no expert mechanic.

Excellent video, love your detailed step by step instructions. Many kudos👍👍. Your video is a wonderful resource for people who enjoy and take pride in working on their cars. Just curious how to differentiate between Voltage transformer vs. coil pack when all six on same side giving misfiring codes ? 50/50 Thanks again for wonderful video, greatly appreciated.
@@hans6304 After searching the forums, I found V12icpacks.com, Clark the owner (916) 802-1045 was very helpful. He rebuilds Coil packs and Voltage transformers with upgraded components, and let you rent for diagnosing your issues related to coil pack or voltage transformer for a fee plus shipping cost. In my case my hunch was for coil pack, because majority of these fail around 90k-120k miles, after replacing coil pack my issue was not resolved. Than I ordered the voltage transformer from Clark and installation was very simple, and it fixed my issue. Clark offered to take coil pack back if I wanted to return, it could have cost me rental fee and shipping cost But I decided on keeping both because of effort it took for coil pack replacement. Just be patient and don't rush be gentle when replacing coil pack they are fragile. Both have worked flawlessly for almost 2 yrs. If I were to do it again, I will start with voltage transformer rental route first, if it fixes great otherwise you will know the coil packs are culprit. Hope this helps. Regards, Raj
Hello i got a 2007 s600 and i got missfires on cylinders 3,6,7,9,11,12 would this be from spark plugs or the ignition coil because if it was the coil wouldnt all of them be missfiring on one side not just a few of them?

NO NO NO! You will need to bleed the IC-circuit (special vacuum machine). DO NOT disconnect if not really needed! Congratulations to approx 100hp power loss and risk of damaging your engine (hot air -> ecu pulling timing -> risk of engine knock and cracked pistons). Super important M275 information.

Need change your valve cover gasket, why you got oil on your coilpack and plugs. Also, the fact that you had no radiator fluid come out of your inter-cooler when removed, your pump is gone or your need coolant, and if you need coolant your pump is definitely gone by now running it dry.
Nice video. My question is how did you know that it was the ignition coil that as to be replaced. i have similar problem, my is cylinder 1, 3,4,6,8,10 and my technician suggested to change the 2 oxygen sensor first. What can you advice me to do first.

If I changed the coil backs and the spark plugs without changing the Ignition Voltage Transformer , will the coil backs die permanently after short period of time?? Please any one ...
Mercedes designed these cars with only 2 coil packs. 1-6 and 7-12. If one cylinder fails the whole bank fails...not the best of designs but we still love our biturbo V12’s!
Another way smarter mechanic on UTube, Clark Rupp, says that this problem is the ECU which is burnt out and not the coil pack. If an engine misfires it would be 1 or possibly 2 cyl.'s but seldom an entire side as in this case.
Brent Waterbury. A way smarter mechanic would not refer to the the ignition control module/voltage transformer as the ECU. They are separate components. But, yes, the ICM should be considered when all cylinders show misfires.

why wouldn't you do the plugs at the same time? coil failure can be a result of plug resistance.
Need change your valve cover gasket, why you got oil on your coilpack and plugs. Also, the fact that you had no radiator fluid come out of your inter-cooler when removed, your pump is gone or your need coolant, and if you need coolant your pump is definitely gone by now running it dry.

Hello 7 to 12, which side is the driver’s side?
Do you know that "mm" means millimeter or do you just prefer saying it that way. Good tutorial though.
Should the spark plugs be removed when changing the ignition coils? If so, do you have a video showing the work?
No need to remove the spark plugs unless you are planning to change it.
