This is a great video. Thank for an review head on. Very helpful and informative. Can’t wait to see more projects updates and many more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep forge lit. Keep making. God bless.

Thank you Sir, you answered my question, I appreciate that, I'm going to try the doyle, I'm a beginner, nothing ventured nothing gained. Thank you.

My son started blacksmithing in school. He just bought a Doyle anvil to start his blacksmithing. We just built an awesome 100# base out of 4x4 drops and other stuff we had laying around the shop for it and next in the plans is to make a propane forge.

Thank you for the review. I honestly didn't know Harbor Freight offered anvils. That's cool.

my doyle has treated me great, made getting into this hobby lots easier for me, an easy, relatively cheapish option. building my second forge right now, first was a fire pit that BARELY got hot enough to get the metal red, new one is a jabod forge

There are some cheap materials that make great insulator like aerated concrete building blocks, you can get fireplace bricks also for cheap, combine those two and you can make good charcoal/coal even propane forge for 100$.You dont need fancy ceramic fiber blankets.

@@zumbazumba1 what I'm building right now is free! Free palletwood from work and free dirt from the yard, my father can get a small length of black pipe for the blower for free, all I gotta buy is a hair dryer to blow air through that pipe and I'll be money

Get a bathroom vent fan, about 15 dollars at the box store. More volume than a hair dryer. Good luck!

@@VooDooTennessee do you have any advice on how i'd hook that up to a pipe? all the designs i've seen and the one i'm building have a pipe inserted into the side of the forge that blows the air into the fire and these square shaped fans seem really bulky. maybe there's some ducting or something that would fit the job?

I have the 132lb Vevor and I really like it. Yeah, the pritchel hole is useless... oh well, but its a solid, sturdy chunk of steel for an excellent price. I got mine on sale, think I paid delivered. Its about a year old now and I've used it pretty well, and the face is still in nice flat shape. Sure, if I whacked it directly with a hammer it would dent, but duh...
I made up some hardy tools with 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 inch holes for piercing, so I've only used the pritchel for putting a hook into while I'm rounding the rest of the part.

I bought the Doyle 3 months ago with zero regrets. The face is HRC 60.

For me the biggest problem with the vevor is the pritchel hole. I use the pritchel hole alot when I forge and having it unusable like that would be a problem. That being said I don't actually have the vevor anvil so idk. My harbor freight has been treating me great tho.

My grandson expressed interest in learning basic Smithing. I bought a new 65 lb. Doyle, it’s still in the box, then, on second thought, I ordered an 88 pound Acchio online yesterday. Now, I’m not sure… Hadn’t given any thought to the location of the Pritchell hole. Now, I’m wondering if the extra weight will be enough advantage to ignore the bad location of the hole on the Acchio?

    • @VooDooTennessee
      @VooDooTennessee  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I would stick with the heavier Acchio and make him a bolster block to punch in.

Di niente.😁 By the by I am a coppersmith who could not resist adding the Doyle to my kit . It is unlikely that I will ever use it to smith iron so I only put a 1/8 " radius on the edges because brass and copper require only mild tapping to shape them .For the occasional iron brackets needed for some copper/brass object, I use an old anvil inherited from my grandfather typical farm anvil with an English pattern that my grandfather bought from Sears more than likely in the 1930s ..the rest of the letters whb ...some others worn out mean nothing at all to me but it does the job on the occasions that I need it . I needed a large fresh flattening face to work sheet copper , the Doyle with the double horns bonuses will allow me to make large angular shapes as well as fairly large conical shapes. I enjoy you videos and common sense reviews, they are the reasons why I bought the Doyle, and happily it has none of the defects or blemished that annoy some people .But in view of the fact that HB will allow an in store inspection of the anvil before hauling it home, why are people taking home the ones that do not measure up? As they put it . Anyway tanks for the very pleasant exchange .. e percio` ti nomino un bravo paesano 🤝...Buona Fortuna !!😄😄

I know you didn't test it but would you recommend the Vevor 110lb or the Harbor freight 66 lb?

    • @VooDooTennessee

Hard to say, I don't know the time line but harbor freight is in the process of working on a 110lb anvil. If I was getting one to grow on I would go with the harbor freight and hold off for the bigger one till we see what they offer.
