Generally I think ranking lists are clickbait, but having AI do it is a clever idea. I've seen all these bands live (if Babymetal is a “band”). Inevitably bands will be left off, such as Gacharic Spin, who put on a live show second to none. Show-Ya signed with a major record label in 1985; Cyntia were the first among the 2000s "metal boom" bands to do so, as stated. Scandal were very influential for their business model--in their heyday they were everywhere: primetime t v shows, commercials, radio programs, anime tieups, etc, etc. As far as the Japanese general public goes, Scandal and Princess Princess would be the most recognizable. Show-Ya and Aldious were influential more musically. This list just scratches the surface--there can't be another country with anywhere near the variety and quality of all-female bands, even more so if you add jazz-fusion, and many many fine classical musicians too for that matter.
@DRoberts-we2vg I got into Babymetal after going to the club gigs of the Kami Band members, particularly Mikio Fujioka. Still do--saw Takayoshi Ohmura's birthday show with Gacharic Spin in December. That was very interesting, they have no shortage of rock bands. I am 60 and love hard rock, but been very disillusioned with what has been around. Loved the Aussie rock when younger, then went back to listening to the classics, Nighwish, Rammstein, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, etc. but about 3 months ago I found Band-Maid, absolutely stunned, do not know how it took me so long for our paths to cross as I am continually looking for great music, yes I think that I listened to nearly every band on this list before them and was very impressed. But they are the greatest band I have ever heard. They do not sing dud songs and the lyrics are very thougthful and impressive. Long live the little genius pigeon.

Band-Maid is at the top of my list, happy to see TRiDENT on there as well, but Show Ya is one I have been meaning to check out more of . They are from my era and they are still out there performing.
pretty good list. glad SCANDAL got some well deserved love - after all they do hold the all time record in the guinness book for longest lasting female band with the same members at an incredible 19 years this coming august. but to me LOVEBITES has got to claim the number one spot with BAND MAID nipping at their heels. and the omission of the legendary DESTROSE is a crime imo. formed in 2005 by captain mina - minako nakamura - they were the standard for all female metal bands with many other amazing bands formed by the many different members over their 10 year run. and 20 years later the captain is still going strong with FATE GEAR
When I read certain comments, I have the impression of witnessing a fight between supporters of candidates for the Miss France election (choose your country). It's so pathetic.😏
For me it will always be BABYMETAL no.1 they were the band that got me into female Japanese rock. Also where are Passcode, Mellows & Giltyxgilty on the list. AND no HANABIE.!!!! Absolutely criminal in my view!!!
Not a terrible list, but there are a few things I'd change. 1. Baby Metal should not be on the list at all. I know that will pass people off, but it is what it is. They are simply idols, not a band. The girls don't play any instruments and their actual band is all men, most of whom aren't Japanese either. They simply do not meet any of the criteria. 2. Aldious is ranked way too high. I'm not saying they shouldn't be on the list, but no way should they be higher than Lovebites or Nemophila.
Interesting, fun exercise. Glad Band-Maid was at the top - because it's my personal favorite. All of these bands are amazing, and someone will find a personal favorite among them depending on their taste.
interesting review. for some reason, Lovebites is called a power metal band. although the band members say about themselves that they are a heavy metal band. singer Asami shouts from the stage at every concert: we are Lovebites and we play heavy metal. in addition to speed, neoclassical and power metal, their repertoire includes progressive metal songs. 15% of Lovebites songs are thrash metal
@SteveBalderrama in that case you should also call Iron Maiden a power metal band. because a huge number of people who hear Lovebites for the first time compare their style, first of all, with Iron Maiden. including Iron Maiden fans from Europe and America, who have been fans of IM for 30-40 years. Asami is called the female version of Bruce Dickinson. if in the songs The Crusade, Golden Destination and many others Asami's voice is replaced with Bruce's voice, then the fans will say that it is Iron Maiden )
@@SteveBalderrama listen carefully to the songs Break the Wall, Thunder Vengeance, M.D.O., Dissonance, Paranoia, Where's Identity, etc. this is typical thrash metal. the same can be said about a huge number of other songs of this band: progressive, neoclassical, speed metal or various combinations of these genres, often with the addition of elements of classical music, as in symphonic metal. if you call a song by Stand and Deliver power metal, then you'll have to call Motorhead a power metal band )
@@SteveBalderrama if you say that Dancing with the Devil is power metal, then you should say that Deep Purple is a power metal band. which the members of the band will be very surprised )
Me too, not my cup of tea. Prefer "metal" sound & style more. Having said that, as an avid Japanese rock & metal listener for more than 25 years, I still support Band-maid journey.
I agree. Like the songs are fine and I certainly wouldn't turn it off if their song was playing in the radio. But it just doesn't pull me in like many groups from japan do.
I like Band-Maid better then Lovebites however. I just can't get used to Asami's voice. She is a great power vocalist but is not as devese as let's say Suzuka or maybe Mayu from Nemophila. Band-Maid has improved a lot of the last year. So I like them at lot more then I used to.
I asked ChatGPT, too, and it went like this: 1. Band-Maid Genre: Hard Rock/Alternative Rock Known for their "maid café" aesthetic paired with intense rock performances. Band-Maid combines powerful guitar riffs, energetic drumming, and strong vocals to create their unique sound. 2. Babymetal Genre: Kawaii Metal (Fusion of J-Pop and Metal) A pioneering group in "kawaii metal," Babymetal combines heavy metal instrumentation with idol-style vocals. While not entirely a traditional "band," they have become global sensations. 3. Lovebites Genre: Power Metal Known for their high-speed, technically skilled power metal. Lovebites has been compared to classic European metal bands and is admired for their musicianship. 4. Aldious Genre: Melodic Metal/Power Metal Often credited as one of the bands that revived the Japanese all-female metal scene. Aldious delivers a blend of melody and heaviness with intricate guitar work and catchy hooks. 5. Scandal Genre: Pop Rock/Alternative Rock While more pop-rock than metal, Scandal is one of Japan's most famous all-female rock bands. They are known for their catchy songs and dynamic performances. 6. Mary's Blood Genre: Heavy Metal/Power Metal A metal band featuring powerful vocals, shredding guitars, and a heavier sound, Mary's Blood has gained a dedicated following within Japan's metal community. 7. Nemophila Genre: Heavy Metal/Hard Rock A rising force in Japanese metal, Nemophila is known for their heavy sound, versatile vocals, and high-energy performances. 8. Show-Ya Genre: Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Active since the 1980s, Show-Ya is one of the first successful all-female Japanese rock bands. They are known for their classic hard rock sound with a strong stage presence. 9. Silent Siren Genre: Pop Rock With a more pop-oriented sound, Silent Siren still holds a strong place in Japan's rock scene. They mix upbeat melodies with rock elements. 10. Bridear Genre: Melodic Metal/Progressive Metal Bridear is known for their progressive metal sound and sophisticated compositions. They combine melody, power, and technical skill. Honorable Mentions: Exist†trace (Gothic/Visual Kei Rock) Gacharic Spin (Funk Rock/Pop Rock) Cyntia (Melodic Metal) Fate Gear (Steampunk Power Metal) Each of these bands has its unique style, blending traditional rock and metal elements with their own cultural and aesthetic influences.
Since Babymetal virtually created the entire Kawaii-metal genre, and is damn near the ONLY act still in the genre now, I would have put them much higher than #5
@@colingardiner6697 I agree with you. 🙏Although, if you look at it objectively, in Japan there are many talented musicians and great bands of different musical genres.
Aldious over Lovebites is surprising (the Lovebites fanbase seems more active), but not shocking (I like Aldious more, even if Lovebites guiterists are very impressive, maybe because Aldious songs are in japanese)
I'd list Lovebites as being #1, Nemophila #2, East of Eden #3, and Band-Maid #4. Babymetal shouldn't even be on this list since the actual musicians are all male. They should be at the top of some other list.
Definitely not in the top 10 as far as myself & friends are concerned. Scandal makes since as an early adaptor which i remember growing up with. Show-Ya my parents would remember. However, it didn't even have Destrose which kinda lost some respect for me lol. Which everyone from LoveBites, Lonesome Blue, Nemophila, Aldious, Mary's Blood. Along with Mardelas, Albion, and now Fate Gear have their orgions in. Fate Gear being Destrose founder Captain Mina's current epic band. Which is currently in my top 5 bands easily. Along with Babymetal, Band-Maid, Nemophila, Lovebites & Hanabie. I would be interested to know what criteria the Ai used as seems outdated & stuck in another era. Band-Maid was at least in its proper place.
@@albertcornett7408 Technically they aren't rock either so Lovebites and Nemophila shouldn't be on the list either if you want to get strict with the wording of the title.
@@albertcornett7408 Babymetal is an all-female group whose members only sing and dance. if we talk about concerts, then it is correct to talk about joint concerts of Babymetal (vocals and dances) and Kami Band (musicians)
No problem with this list.......all were good choices. And the "pecking order" was pretty good too; although, I would have had Nemophila a few spots higher.
Gee, but some reality, please. Princess Princess is like something an AI would make using a Casio keyboard. Cyntia at least has 80s glam rock down, which oddly is an enormous step up from #10. Nemophila yanks it up a ton, cancelling out the cliche and repetitive guitar stumming for actual talent worthy of the new millennium. Show-ya emerged in the 80s and sounds like the 80s, which is one reason why I hated the 80s so much. Calling Babymetal an all-female band is fraud. Hey, have some respect for the Kami Band, as in, the band is the Kami Band. Finally, Lovebites, which is right up there in the same millennium with Nemophila, worthy of the props. Aldious set a trend early, so they deserve more notice than they get. Scandal is...famous. I'll leave it at that. Kind of reminds me of why so many all-female bands leave a bland taste in the mouth for not being particularly good on the instruments, but very good on the show (for lack of a better word). By the time this AI gets to Band Maid, I'm super ready for it. Great songs, great arrangements, innovative approaches to mixing those chops together, great stage presence, unrelenting professionalism, and everybody can play well. Night and day the top on this list. Which incidentally completely neglected to include several outstanding all-female Japanese bands that I'd put in front of most of this: Hanabie, Doll$boxx, Gacharic Spin, Fern Planet, White Flame....
Announcement: "Whoever can provide convincing evidence that BABYMETAL is not an all-female band will receive $10,000 from me". 😊 BABYMETAL is a 100% female band consisting of three ladies who dance and sing.Try to prove otherwise. If you can do it, I will transfer $10,000 to your bank account. P.S. If we are talking about concerts, then it would be more correct to say that these are BABYMETAL & KAMI BAND concerts.
Was it the same scam site that had Suzuka from BABYMETAL to win best metal singer award for 2024? If it was the site had no legitimacy and it was just a front for fishing peoples information:D
@@Tyyppl I'd still choose Lovebites that's just my type of Metal I love Asami's voice especially when they do slower songs and her R&B voice is more prominent

That's why he writes such and similar comments under the comments of fans of LOVEBITES. He has zero facts, but an arrogant attitude towards LOVEBITES fans = 100%.
@@JuanGomez-dk6kf Popularity doesn’t always equal good. Baby Metal isn’t an all female rock band. On a list if most popular idol bands Baby Metal is one of the top on that list.
It's a respectable list. I'd take off Babymetal for technical reasons, (not being an actual "band") and slip in Gacharic Spin somewhere. I'd also like to see Hanabie on there, but they still have a lower song output than most of the others. I'd stick Shishimo on there too but they aren't well known in the West, and I've a feeling that the AI was skewing the results towards bands known in the West. At least it got the #1 spot right!
Good point about Shishamo, they're not heavy enough, cute enough, punk enough or technical enough to register with western rock fans. They're very much a Japanese band for Japanese people.
I have never heard of Cyntia at number 9. Most time given to the number 2 band on this list, why? I remember when puri-puri came out and instantly was into them, but not as much as Band Maid. Not sure what criteria was used either. Zone, Stereopony, or even Mutant Monster could be on this list.
Great bit of fun having AI create the list. Most of what i expected in the list. Some of the positions were a surprise. Like the narrator said, he was unsure what criteria was used to make the list. Pure fame BabyMetal are number 1, because they don't play any instruments, then they don't make the list at all. Band-Maid number 1? For me and every other maidiac, then yes but in reality, probably not. Though they are one of the most reacted to bands did that count? Would have been nice to see the reasoning behind the list. Still enjoyable and great to see a mix of old and new. Haven't listened to Scandal in a minute off to fire that up.
Actually they do play instruments but just haven't as part of BabyMetal. Moa has played guitar since she was in 4th grade. Suzuka plays piano of which she did perform once. This is the fault of Koba and Amuze not taking advantage of their talents. I agree though with Band-Maid. Scandal is recommend but are a aquired taste as they border on grunge more i think.
@BlazinNSoul I was only hashing out reasons not complaining. I'm a massive BabyMetal fan and know they play instruments. I even listened to the recent interview they did with Atarashi Gakko and I'm going to see them play in a few months. In Germany because I'm on holiday 2 days before the London show. Like I said I doubt AI knows all the cool things the fans do. Love your passion though.
Tried same exercise, with chatGpt too, and get this list (first position anyway goes to... 😊) 1. Band-Maid 2. SCANDAL 3. Aldious 4. Lovebites 5. Shonen Knife 6. Nemophila 7. Silent Siren 8. Show-Ya 9. Tricot 10. Zettai Club
El publico que le gusta a Band Maid son puros viejos que se calientan viendo a mujeres disfrazadas de mucamas, mientras que el publico de Babymetal es mucho mas diverso.
Who is the biggest Japanese band male or female worldwide? BABYMETAL. Who has the best singer? BABYMETAL. All these other bands fit into one genre or another. BABYMETAL (well, Koba-Metal) created their own genre, unlike anything done before. Everything about BABYMETAL is so far ahead of these other bands, from stage show to production values to marketing and every other aspect of the project. Koba-Metal is the greatest manager since Peter Grant of Zeppelin fame. And before all the BABYMETAL haters start telling me they aren't a band or they aren't metal, yes BABYMETAL isn't a "band" more of a "concept" but so what? It's hugely successful, both in Japan 🇯🇵 and around the world. Band Maid and Lovebites are good bands, but I highly doubt they are playing to the same size crowds as BABYMETAL in Japan, and I know they aren't anywhere else. And BABYMETAL ARE METAL!!! My favorite band is MANOWAR so I know what True Metal is. And BABYMETAL my friends, IS True Metal 🤘 KITSUMES UP
Pretty sure One Ok Rock for example is bigger than babymetal worldwide (atleast they do a bit bigger venues than babymetal does) But for just female bands I agree that BABYMETAL is the biggest worldwide.
@@brenthatcher5748 As I said One Ok Rock. They are a stadium sized band in Japan and even outside of Japan they draw bigger crowds than even babymetal (atleast in Asia, and South America and in the US and Europe the crowds are pretty similar size). Not really my type of music but they are massive.
Is AI able of feeling music as much as a human being? I doubt it. Regardless, it's an interesting idea. However, among rock bands, sorry but I see one that is not, IMO (despite all the respect I have for them): Babymetal. Kami band is the rock band. Otherwise we have to redefine what a rock band is. Therefore, why wouldn't PassCode, Broken by the Scream, Bish be part of it? Good job Venus Gaijin.
My favorite would be Aldious they have zero bad songs, zero fillers, in fact had they been around in the 80s and sang in English they would have dominated the charts . Show -Ya would be # 2 because they are from the 80s and played 80s style songs like Def Leppard and Motley Crue ... and had at least one song I remember hearing in the US back then. Lovebites # 3 love just about all their songs. Band Maid # 4 But after that I would have picked Stereopony, Bridear, Destrose, Doll$Boxx, Hagane and Hanabie. Love the rest of the bands on the this list though ..... its tough to narrow down to just a top ten.
First off Band-Maid IS a rock band where as some of the bands on the list are Metal bands. Try the same thing again, but use the words metal bands instead of rock band.
If the Ai can't distinguish between Rock and Metal it's not going to be able to distinguish between Metal and Rock. Just be happy that Nogi46 isn't on the list.
Pretty good ranking. Gacharic Spin is missing. Babymetal is not an all female band (it is, technically, but… no). I had also ranked Band-Maid number one (by far).
You don't know LOVEBITES fans well if you write something like that. You probably judge by yourself. I am a LOVEBITES fan and I am not disappointed at all. Regardless of its results, I will choose LOVEBITES over any other band.

pretty good list. glad SCANDAL got some well deserved love - after all they do hold the all time record in the guinness book for longest lasting female band with the same members at an incredible 19 years this coming august. but to me LOVEBITES has got to claim the number one spot with BAND MAID nipping at their heels. and the omission of the legendary DESTROSE is a crime imo. formed in 2005 by captain mina - minako nakamura - they were the standard for all female metal bands with many other amazing bands formed by the many different members over their 10 year run. and 20 years later the captain is still going strong with FATE GEAR

interesting review. for some reason, Lovebites is called a power metal band. although the band members say about themselves that they are a heavy metal band. singer Asami shouts from the stage at every concert: we are Lovebites and we play heavy metal. in addition to speed, neoclassical and power metal, their repertoire includes progressive metal songs. 15% of Lovebites songs are thrash metal
@@pilgrim000 my personal ear test tends to also call them a predominantly power metal band.
@@SteveBalderrama listen carefully to the songs Break the Wall, Thunder Vengeance, M.D.O., Dissonance, Paranoia, Where's Identity, etc. this is typical thrash metal. the same can be said about a huge number of other songs of this band: progressive, neoclassical, speed metal or various combinations of these genres, often with the addition of elements of classical music, as in symphonic metal. if you call a song by Stand and Deliver power metal, then you'll have to call Motorhead a power metal band )

you're not alone!
I asked ChatGPT, too, and it went like this:
1. Band-Maid
Genre: Hard Rock/Alternative Rock
Known for their "maid café" aesthetic paired with intense rock performances. Band-Maid combines powerful guitar riffs, energetic drumming, and strong vocals to create their unique sound.
2. Babymetal
Genre: Kawaii Metal (Fusion of J-Pop and Metal)
A pioneering group in "kawaii metal," Babymetal combines heavy metal instrumentation with idol-style vocals. While not entirely a traditional "band," they have become global sensations.
3. Lovebites
Genre: Power Metal
Known for their high-speed, technically skilled power metal. Lovebites has been compared to classic European metal bands and is admired for their musicianship.
4. Aldious
Genre: Melodic Metal/Power Metal
Often credited as one of the bands that revived the Japanese all-female metal scene. Aldious delivers a blend of melody and heaviness with intricate guitar work and catchy hooks.
5. Scandal
Genre: Pop Rock/Alternative Rock
While more pop-rock than metal, Scandal is one of Japan's most famous all-female rock bands. They are known for their catchy songs and dynamic performances.
6. Mary's Blood
Genre: Heavy Metal/Power Metal
A metal band featuring powerful vocals, shredding guitars, and a heavier sound, Mary's Blood has gained a dedicated following within Japan's metal community.
7. Nemophila
Genre: Heavy Metal/Hard Rock
A rising force in Japanese metal, Nemophila is known for their heavy sound, versatile vocals, and high-energy performances.
8. Show-Ya
Genre: Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
Active since the 1980s, Show-Ya is one of the first successful all-female Japanese rock bands. They are known for their classic hard rock sound with a strong stage presence.
9. Silent Siren
Genre: Pop Rock
With a more pop-oriented sound, Silent Siren still holds a strong place in Japan's rock scene. They mix upbeat melodies with rock elements.
10. Bridear
Genre: Melodic Metal/Progressive Metal
Bridear is known for their progressive metal sound and sophisticated compositions. They combine melody, power, and technical skill.
Honorable Mentions:
Exist†trace (Gothic/Visual Kei Rock)
Gacharic Spin (Funk Rock/Pop Rock)
Cyntia (Melodic Metal)
Fate Gear (Steampunk Power Metal)
Each of these bands has its unique style, blending traditional rock and metal elements with their own cultural and aesthetic influences.
