    Tragic irony is that if he'd remained unfit, perhaps he'd not have taken that fatal walk. Few have helped as many people as he did with his simple and sound advice. It's beyond sad to lose this lovely man. RIP.

    Such an incredible and inspiring guy. Helped millions of people all over the world to improve their health and quality of life. So, so sad to hear if his passing may he RIP. Condolences to all of his family. He will be missed that's for sure.

      +Bruno Zub I had a roommate who used to hit the weights bench after work. My neighbour complained to me one evening, saying she wasn't being judgemental, she had gay friends herself, but could he please, please not shag in the living room when her kids were getting back from school.

    Read the book fast 800 four weeks lost 10kg another five to go and I'm where I want to be at over 70 now I thought it would be hard to loose the weight .how wrong was I.Thanks Michael just bought a stationary bike today to do HIIT.

    It blew my mind when i saw this video because I have been in a routine very similar to this for the last 2 months.
    I'm a 30 year old male and I have been doing biking with 15 second sprints for every minute of cycling while keep my heart rate in between 140-160 BPM, I started at 8 minute a day 3 days a week and im now up to 15 minutes a day 5 days a week,
    I cut my food portions in half , dramatically reduced my intake of sugar as well as my starch's while drinking only water or decaf tea (no sugar) 4 hours before bed and sleeping around 7- 8 hours a night.
    I started this in January with a average weight loss of 2 pounds per week! I feel great and so can you just give it a try!
    My tip is to avoid going from 0-60 from the start with both your routine and your diet, Gradually reducing the bad food and portions will reduce the cravings over time just remember not to starve yourself.
    When working out your more likely to stick with a routine if you ease your way into it and in time you can add more days and extend your exercise time as you get more comfortable.

      I found the opposite (and he's suggested this too). I went cold turkey on sugar for a month after a lifetime of addiction, and it really helped to wean me off it in a way nothing else had. Then when you taste chocolate again after, it tastes really sickly, and you don't want as much.

      The heart rate is irrelevant with work intervals that short.you should be going flat out,not by a sub max HR.

      doing this with healthy keto is the best for me. no calorie counting bullshit. enjoying the food a lot.

      Is that supposed to be high intensity training because it's not. HIIT shouldn't take more than 3-5 minutes.

      @@ktkee7161 I had to stop my sugar addiction because of very severe reactions and now after a few weeks I am doing much better and have substituted green salad with vinegar and olive oil instead of eating any Suga's at all🤩

    I absolutely love going as fast as I can for about a min in between regular cycling! The stress melts away and I cycle about 20 miles in a little over an hour doing it... This isn't super fast but i love it!

      don't forget to stop after HIIT! if you do another low intensity afterwards you destroy some of the growth factors made during HIIT

    Not wishing to sound smug but I've been doing this for a few years now. With a job that is demanding of energy it made sense to make my heart, lungs, blood flow increase.... just for a few moments, and so make the lesser, although demanding day, doable. But I also add to this a few minutes weight bearing exercise to get the blood flow into my muscles.... with the same idea, and to top it off a quick dip in the pool... people have made comments😊, but you are backing it all up with the science.. ( the comments were that I should do more etc.. all well meaning). The result is good for me. I don't have to spend hours at the gym. I'm not muscly. But I feel heathy and still working well into my 60s. Yeay!

      I would say if you are already doing work that involves various intervals of intensity that walking, running or cycling on top of what you are doing even just once a week would give you a better all round exercise.

    There are apps that count down a 7 minute excercise with 30sec. segments for different musclegroups. I use it basically for the same reason as they say in this video, but i feel that daily reminders via phone are a good extra incentive to excercise.

    Technically not 60 seconds, but it sure does shave off a good chunk of time during the week.

    15 min of high intensity is really effective. I used HasFit's workout. If youre not fit then you might last 6-7min at most but you will improve if you keep going.

    Tabata method:
    20 sec full effort 10 sec recovery for 8 times (4m in total)
    (it improved VOmax in trained cyclists)

    3 x 20 seconds of high intensity, 40 seconds recovery Eugene. 3 x 20 = 60 minutes of exercise, so warm up and cool down add 3 minutes either side gives 9 minutes every 2nd day. It will change you a lot.

      Who can't add up? I calculate 3 x20 seconds = 1 minute. Then 3 minutes warm up +3 minutes cool down after each HIT totals 12 mins of resting it gentle exercise+ 1 minute HIT Total of 13 minutes. Still impressive.

    Thank you for this video ,I've been able to follow this regime and found it beneficial. I was wondering if you have done any research about resistance training made easy because I understand that as an older person it's important to keep bones and muscle strong

      If you are an older person do not start with HIIT. Most people do not need to be doing it as it can result in injury and other risk factors.
      Interval training is what most people require and that means different level of intensity. if you for example can run do a mixture of walks and runs and that interval training. Weight training in itself is interval training because you would normally do a routine such as 12 reps and then take a rest for a minute before starting the next set.
      An exercise bike where you go for a hard fast 20 seconds and then take it easy for a minute is interval training.

    This is similar to Tabata training which I used to lose weight and regain my fitness and it works better than most think. I have a neck injury atm so once cleared I'll definitely be doing this, for thos who haven't tried it, I recommend you do, it may not seem much but it shows results.

      Tabata is a form of HIIT but to do that you must be on an exercise bike and be fit enough and strong enough to carry out the routine.
      Tabata cannot done with running, weights or movement routines and has to be done on an exercise bike.

      @@bighands69 that's not true, I've done tabata training for over 16 years & only use my bike sometimes, it can include a variety of movements & small weights, practically anything that makes your body move can be uses during tabata training. I guarantee 💯 it works for weight loss & toning the body...Exercise doesn't need to be expensive or complicated..

    I found that even stationary sprinting for 20 to 30 seconds can really get your heart pumping. Anything that requires the use of your thigh muscles will get your heart rate up pretty quick.
    For your upper body, you cant beat an "Organ grinder". The type you see people cranking on yachts.

      Exercise bike is the best form of interval training for beginners. Even the elderly can do it. It is best for most people not to do HIIT and just intervals of various intensity.

    I do a 12min program. Warm up 6 minutes doing 1 revolution per sec (on setting 5 out of 10). Then I do 15sec flat out (2 rev per sec) 15 sec rest, 15 sec flat out then 2min 15 sec at warm up speed. Then a 15 sec flat out in each minute for 3 minutes and finish off with a 1 minute warm down.

      And I'm doing that 6 days a week. Plus I do 25 freestyle strokes in a minute cycle - 16 times with a two minute break after the first 10 minutes. I do this about 7 times a fortnight.

    I envision:
    Mon. and Wed, you FAST,
    Tues., Thurs., Fri, Sat. and Sun you vary between 3x of the 5 days to skip breakfast and do these 20 sec. x3 bike sprints in the morning of any of the exercise days, then eat 2 meals on the exercise days.
    That's my plan and I'm sticking to it. ( ^ ;

    I viewed a program that recommended an easier program, 8 second sprint, 12 minute rest then repeat for 20 minutes. That adds up to 2 minutes 40 seconds per workout. I don’t know they say it works. I had a hard time keeping track of the time. It is easier to sprint for 20 to 30 seconds then just rest and repeat, 3-4 times.

      I would suggest that is too much rather than a sprint take it back to a speed run which just means a series of faster and slower intervals.

    This is great advice and I’d be doing it right now if…. it wasn’t for the fact that I had a knee replacement two years ago. Fast star jumps aren’t really advisable even if I could. Can you recommend a HIIT programme that copes with dodgy legs? I am totally convinced by your exercise and diet information but I’d really like to know what you’d recommend in my case. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

    Whoops - I've been doing 3 x 60 second bursts of this particular HIIT regimen. Been intrigued by this concept/research ever since I watched Dr Mosley's BBC 2 Horizon: The Truth About Exercise programme a few years ago. I bought a (very noisy) Turbo Trainer - thanks, good ol' Cash Converters! - six months ago and I've not quite devoted the necessary time and effort to this kind of High Intensity Interval Training until now (yes, it's a New Year's resolution). I'll report back in February!

    why time your pulse while feeling your wrist and using your watch, when your exercise bike has a built in pulse monitor? (the silver parts on the sides of the handle that you're supposed to put your hands on)

    Thank you for doing that other film and this one as well! The assertions were testable, I tested them, and have to say that my personal outcomes are positive.
    A full-on running sprint outdoors is my weapon of choice.

    iam a personal trainer,there are alot ways to do hiit for ex:,i do with my clients.climb strair when arrive at work,when go home,walk fast 2 sidewalk and jog 1,for just 10 minute with progression 1x a week i do support on line. they are happy with the result loses a few pounds and improves breathing

      That might be interval but it is not HIIT. Most people do not need HIIT.

    There was a whole documentary about this, or fitness in general but it incorporated this, swear it was with the same guy... It was cracking. Really helps to understand fitness.

    Most people do not need to do HIIT they just need to do interval training. That could be walking with a few runs, weightlifting and then taking rests, swimming for a lap fast and then take a rest.

      Don't forget, max HR decreases with age, so his 140bpm could be equivalent to 170-180bpm for someone younger.

      When i run i get over 210. Is that bad? I do feel at that point that my chest is going to explode but i thought exercise is meant to hurt?

    Hit does really works I change my speed on treadmill from high to low speed in short break time it s much different works good for me much better then running at one speed for 10 miles

    I find jogging for a couple of minutes then running for a minute, then jogging again makes a big difference its pretty similar to HIT.

    I like this idea and believe in it. Someone commented.. "fitter yes. fit no.", lol but as another pointed out "to get fit, you got to get fitter", it is a process. And as clearly said in video, this is for those who don't seem to benefit from other exercise, don't have the time.. or just want supplement to other.
    ....
    On regular day for many we NEVER, NEVER, really get our pulse up.. but with this short training we will.

    My HIIT routine consists of three to five rounds of burpees and jumping jacks for 60 seconds and a 10 second break in between 60 second intervals. 3 times a week. A successful round in my opinion is when I can neither breath or talk .

      Most people do not need to do HIIT they just need intervals of varying intensity. Are you genuinely doing HIIT or are you just doing intervals of various intensity.
      If people are doing HIIT in the form of sprints that means every routine must be done to the same intensity. Starting out with 2 or 3 intense bursts and then it slowing down is not HIIT.

    I know a guy that did this and ruptured his heart valve. Almost died. Make sure you are fit before doing this or you will hurt your self.

    I've been doing 60s x 4-5 sprints. Unsure how that differs from cycling? Also, how does that fit with other exercise like weights and core training? I noticed that I eat less in the summer, but I associated that with the heat. It just occurred to me that I exercise a lot more in summer, particularly HIIT (less chance of pulling a muscle when it's warm).

    I honestly couldn't tell if he is saying you have to do it once a day, or once a week?
    In the beginning he says I think 'once a week' then later he says. your exercise for the day.

      In his books and the full documentary he says three times a week. Obviously if you do it daily, 5 minutes wont hurt!

    I started doing this on the treadmill 3 days ago as i have couch potatoed myself to 260 pounds. I started at 10mph on the treadmill sprinting for 30 seconds and resting for 30 seconds, i do 5 sets. The thing is i find it fairly easy and not too hard. My treadmill is an incline one so should be harder. I am 43 years old, i watch videos of fit people doing this and they seem knackered after it, i don't feel this though, i could do alot more, people are amazed because my waist is 50 inches, i was laughed at the thought of me doing this, i enjoy it so i will lose a lot of weight and laugh at the laughees. Lol

      +Ric Rac 'Fit' is more than just what you can lift. It's blatantly clear, and explicitly stated, that this is about improving your aerobic and metabolic fitness.
      It's about making you healthier, not necessarily stronger, or leaner.

      +DD MM You only need to listen to strongmen even just talk to know this! Puffing and panting, due to being fat as well as strong, as well as probably abusing steroids. Listening to them talk makes it clear that it's not a health lifestyle. They do it to achieve the goal of competing in strongmen competitions, and that's their choice, fair enough, but it's not for one second similar to athletes, who actually improve their stamina, oxygen consumption, mental sharpness, health and disease prevention etc... Through their training, which tends to be lean and more focussed on a whole food diet than just how much protein and steroids you can do.

    Do panic attacks count? I get them about once or twice a week and have a heart-rate of about 120 topping at 140 lasting at least half an hour.

    cycle enough just getting from a to b. i mainly do rowing intervals 30sec hard rowing/30sec rest x 10, also tried kettlebells swings with 2 x 12kg for 12 reps (about 20) sec/30 sec rest x 12, havent't got a skipping one yet as my double unders are a bit flaky, or running because having the treadmill on fast and sprinting in the gym makes you look like a loone

    So it takes a few minutes to warm up. It's already not 60 seconds. Then 20 second on highest resistance. And then have a break and do that 2 times again. Took about 10 minutes. Not 1.

      I had a bad back and did hydrotherapy, you could also do somethig just involving your upper body (weights). It's about getting your heart rate up.

      Swimming can be a good option as it is not load bearing. You can also do upper body exercises with dumbbells.

      on keto you could do it almost every day because recovery is faster on keto. but i would not recommend it. take a day off in between an you already have an amazing workout.

    I get the impression that these effects are a result of cardio exercise. I exercise 4-5 times a week, but I mainly do weightlifting for about an hour and half to two hours (because I find that to be more fun), and rarely have time for any cardio. But when you say 150 mins of exercise per week, does lifting count? Or is it about mainly the cardio vascular activity?

      +Salpeteroxid Jag går ju bara gymnasiet än så länge. Sen tränar jag ju för att jag tycker det är kul, jag ser det inte som en "chore". De flesta gångerna blir det ca 1.5 timmar, 2 blir det mest när man har tid att döda, som innan skolan på sovmorgnar.

      you should do a few minutes on a bike to warmup in the gym. There's your cardio, and it gets your blood flowing to your legs at least

    Does 27 trips to the fridge and back to bed count? I do USUALLY fit in two to three hours of coach sitting. Sometimes, when I stand in the hot shower for 45 minutes, I can break a real gooder of a sweat! Anyway, my current routine does not seem to be producing a 'six pack'. Maybe I am am not drinking enough whole milk? Smoking also reduces my hunger cravings. Don't see what i'm doing wrong😕

    i would think having a small bike ride on a real bike is much better. if time is the problem then i dont know, for me i really go for it when i bike ride outside and around, going 3x faster than a leiserly bikeride with my family made a bikeride of 2 hours total become 40 minutes. not only that if you have a big facility/ school rushing from each class or similar can get the same noises that he was making... (really going full out though for sprinting)

      yes, but i would not do it with the highest power. work your way up from just 80 Watt. every second day you do this exercise and add 10 Watt. it will transform you into the incredible hulk but it takes a few weeks that you notice the transformation. it will add up and this is the reason why it will take a few weeks but after that the transformation gets faster and faster because every mitochondria that you generated with that workout will stay with you for weeks.
      combine it with a ketogenic diet (no calorie counting bullshit needed) and eat enough animal protein to fuel your transformation. that's it!
      i started with the highest power on my indoor bike which is 400 Watt. the first time i could do 21 seconds and now i can do about 50 seconds. this happens within about 6 weeks easy.
      i also use one of the latest heart rate breast straps from polar to monitor my heart rate on my phone. it is fun

    I do this every day: rather than parking closest to my work, I park at the furthest car park and have my bike chained up at the entrance with all the other bikes. Then it's about a ten minute bike to work, going slow on side streets and fast in traffic. And because it's only a few minutes I don't get sweaty enough to need a whole other biking outfit, I can bike in my work clothes.
