I thought my issue was the damper plate too. But after removing it and looking it over, it appeared just fine. So given that the damper plate looked ok, the trans had never been rebuilt, and that the trans was already removed, I decided to send it to FFM. Then, that's when they called me and I found out the clutch plates were shot.

Clutches were shot. Sent it off to Fantastic Finish Marine to have it rebuilt.
I have a 1979 correct craft ski nautique and it started doing the same thing
