Remote control car in 1:76 scale... the cheap & easy way!

  • Converting a cheap r/c car with a scale bodyshell with some additional upgrades is a good way to get into r/c on your OO scale layout! Total project cost is approximately £50 and results in a fun little van to drive around.
    To find similar vehicles to start with, search for "Turbo Racing 1/76 Proportional R/C Car" and you'll find something similar - just be aware of customs charges if you're buying from an overseas supplier.

    It would be really nice to see more of this kind of content. I don't have anything against trains, I simply like cars more. So if you can please make more videos about rc cars

    Every tiny bit of weight that you can shave off will make a difference. The original designers of the Turbo racing system thought carefully about power-weight ratio, so for conversion from die-cast you can assume lesser performance straight away but a different car (not a a hefty van or bus) with some careful grinding of the underneath does work.

    I reckon you could put that into a locomotive, make an RC shunter. I’m going to give it a go myself.

    I tried this when starting out with my 1/76scale but ended up messing things upabit. Got a Mk1 Ford Fiesta but though the wheelbase was fine the lights on the donor chassis were too long to fit in. Turns out the lights are part of the 'locking mechanism' keeping the chassis in place on the original Mini shell it came with. I've got the Mk1 Ford Transit but wheelbase just doesnt work. Might try this model and turn it into the Scooby van. Glad others are looking at options for this 'micro machine' ...especially as not all of us has a 3D printer!! lol
    Great explenation of how to fit it all together. Not sure if you know, there's and FB group dedicated to this machine and the folks on there have been doing some great stuff..eg steering mods, tyre mods etc

      I'd like to try another one at some point and change the wheels on it, didn't dare do it on my first go. Have also thought about trying to change the wheelbase, but that would be a fiddly job!

    Awesome job, thanks for sharing! Do you think Oxford's 1:76 VW Golf GTi would fit?

      I think it'd be a little bit too small - however I am trying a couple of other smaller cars that might feature in a future video

      OO gauge is to 1/76 scale (but on 16.5mm track), hope that helps!

    Is this method gonna work for hotwheels (1/64) too ?

    • @tsdesign3317
      @tsdesign3317  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends, if you can find a model with the right wheelbase and track width, then it might work.
