I have 2 original Delta Pros with 2 batteries for each and they've been so reliable it's hard to justify getting the DP3. I also have 2 Delta Pro Ultras with 2 batteries each.
I have one delta pro wired into a transfer switch so far and it powers 80 percent of my house no problems. I plan on getting 3 more so I have my entire house powered up all the time. I looked at the ultra and DP3 but the ultra is bulky and heavy and the DP3 is too expensive for just a couple hundred more watts. The pro is think is where it’s at.
I had 2 Delta Pro 3 ( DP3 ) units running in parallel with their 50 AMP hub bridge. One of the units was defective and caused a tremendous power surge which fried my HVAC thermostat and ECU, coffee maker, Air Purifier, GFCI outlets, and over a dozen outlet surge protectors and damaged 2, 200 AMP breaker panels. The damages have run into the thousands. One electrician who inspected my system told me that one of his customers had a similar problem with his EF Ultra except that he didn't have the unit hooked up to the home. I like the EF Delta 2 Max batteries, but the EF DP3 and the bridge is not good. $12,000 of damage was done.
If one's needs are very light (under 2kWh, 2400W), then one might consider the Delta 2 Max, which is currently running around $1300 or $0.65 per Wh. The Delta Pro is running around $2100 which is $0.58 per Wh. One gives up some features of course, and don't expect any upgrades. The Delta 2 Max extra battery runs around $1100, or $0.55 per Wh. The Delta Pro 3 is running about $3200, or $0.80 per Wh which is the premium you pay for 240V native output.
I own a DP with two EBs. I will not be upgrading until they increase the voltage on the DC input. Most 400 and 500 watt solar panels are near 50 volt voc. My 545 watt panels have a VOC of 49. This limits me too 2S2P and the most I see for charge wattage is 1,400 watts on cold days. and 1,200 watts all summer long.
The limitation with all of these is the smart home panel 2, it only offers 12 breaker slots, which is insufficient to cover all the needs of a whole home backup. For my home, I would need two ecoflow smart panels in my 1,800 sq. Ft. Home, which adds a huge additional expense. Whole-home backup isn’t possible with any of these systems unless you live in a small 1 bedroom or tiny home.
Good video but was hoping for a little more "can do's" of the Ultra. For emergency backup I would like to be able to run my 3 ton heat pump with soft start and a frig and freezer at a minimum all at the same time. I have seen other videos and websites hinting that the Ultra as you show it in your video with one inverter and one battery can handle this. WHAT would be your answer with this?? Thanks for the info and again, good video!
You just nailed the biggest problem with this, these products change every year. Good luck getting it repair or supported in two years, especially on the large (VERY expensive) ones. Most people are far better served with a real inverter/battery setup than these big units
I mean, they're warrantied for 5+ years so there will be support for them, for a while, but yeah... frequent new releases will have you WANTING to upgrade for new functionality.
When it comes to the larger units build your own if you have the knowledge. I built one with 4 lifepower4 batteries and 1 EG4-6000xp. It weighs 460 lbs but its mounted on 6 inch casters and rolls nicely. 6KW output and 20KW storage easy to service. Frame is 80/20 and all parts were less than $250 not including inverter and battery.
I’d love a DIY setup, but I have yet to see an inverter that runs nearly silent at 2k load. The all in ones all have loud fan’s that I can’t use inside a shed.
Can you input charge the delta pro ultra with a standard U.S. wall outlet AND simultaneously output to a transfer switch? I didn't know that. I don't have solar yet, so wanted to charge from the grid and use it more like a UPS+backup for critical loads on the transfer switch. Ecoflow says you can't do this. I don't know why, but maybe because of the floating neutral?
I have a MAX 2 and love it for power outages. I want to upgrade to the DP for more composite, but I’m thinking there going to discontinue it. And I don’t want the DP3 because of the price and I don’t need 240v
I have received multiple confusing answers to this and the manual is unclear. Multiple TH-camrs have given different answers on this. Could you clear this up. Ecoflow Delta Pro Ultra What is the connectivity/capability of the DPU to charge from the 240v side 5+8 (Infinity) port and also provide 120v and 240v output on the front panel if the SHP2 is NOT being used. In other words can it charge the batteries while running the inverter. In the DP3 this is called X-Fusion which the DPU seems to have but only outlines the use of the 120v input. I know it does not do pass-thru but it does do a bypass mode. So if we have a generator connected to the 240v in port and the generator is providing lets say 2000 watts. Will the front 240v outlet be powered? If it has 1000watts of load at the moment will the batteries be charges with the balance (1000 watts minus charging and inverting losses)? Any help is appreciate, this answer is impacting my buying decision.
I will clarify. Delta pros ring should have more battery's to it. I'd like to put it as stackable, but I think there should be 2 stackables of them and. Maybe 16 of those I mean, check for Ford. 1000 W on top of that, another 4001 step. What does it make 2 stacks of and make 2 stacks for high and have 2 sections like the Delta pro and have one hack up a lot more power than it be worth something, but I wish it was more like a 4500 W generator but then it's 2, it's not any. Good because you guys 7200 and what generator so I'm thinking I should be a 4800 watch generator when you connect 3 of them together. That was pretty dumb good. Then I don't have something good to say about.I would like to Delta pro's solution.Except for the cords and it'll be fixed on if you make the delta pro three
Ordered a DP Ultra last week and the inverter has arrived - no eta on battery and Ecoflow cannot provide a date. I have a useless brick at this point for $5k. I would look forward to Ecoflow responding here since their Customer Service team is of no help and the voice quality of their call center is extremely poor - to the point I had to have the CSR spell his name on the second call. I still haven’t opened the inverter container as I’m looking at options right now for backing out of this transaction as the experience has been that bad.
"ordered last week" ... "I have a useless brick" ...bruh, give it a little more than a week before you complain everywhere about it. Lots of things happened over the last week or so to impact shipping times, and not just for Ecoflow.
@johnl2098 they will get the batteries sometime in August. I just sent 2 delta pro ultra inverters back this morning. One is about 7 months old and stopped taking solar power on both the low and high side. The other one is brand new out of the box. I was going to use it with my 2 existing batteries until my other one returned from being repaired. Well right out of the box it would not power on at all. ECOFLOW wanted to charge me a restocking fee and shipping cost for the brand new inverter because I was returning for a refund. It was not a pleasant exchange back and forth for a couple of days. I own 3 other of their power stations and a couple of their solar panels. I have liked their products until lately.
@johnl2098 I'm sure you will have your DPU battery shortly (they are in short supply at the moment), but waiting just 1 week to complain is just plain pathetic. Sheesh...

I have a question for anyone who has tried this. I have an ultra and am thinking about either picking up the 50 hub or the smart panel that allow you to connect 2 units together. My question is can I put my ultra and my sons delta pro 3 together on either of these items since both are 30 amp outputs or are you limited to only being able to combine identical Models? Thanks for the help they are just to expensive for me to feel comfortable experimenting with if it is going to damage either of the units.
