Agreed the problem with Seddriss is his development was help back by Palpatine. Maul would probably have a good enough TK barrier To negate sedriss's TK attacks. Maul would probably be the better duelist too.
Nice perspective on Sedriss. His defeat at Sylvar's claws would be more a result of Sidious' failing than his own. Such a tragedy. This dude would've made a cool Sith Lord if given the chance. Another thing we should consider is that Slyvar may have also practiced Ataru. As Luke describes in _Crimson Empire III - Empire Lost_ #1: "The Ataru form of combat is aggressive, but focused. You must _never_ rely solely on skill with a weapon, but rather embrace the idea that your _body_ is the weapon. Use the Force... to spin... jump... to overpower your foe. This style of fighting was taught to me by Master Yoda. In most cases you will not use it as a first result, but you'll find it often works as a _last_ result." Very awesome job with this video!

She also proved to be Starkiller’s toughest fight, and her presence alone made Kashyyyk a light side planet, and it fell to the dark side immediately afterward. She also survived a bout with Lord Vader despite Anakin being leagues ahead of her in power in the force, and at least 1 league stronger than her when it came to dueling. She is definitely not a loser.

That was an interesting match, my only experience with Sylvar was the Tales of the Jedi: Redemption story and I never possessed a copy of Dark Empire II so I never knew much about Sedriss. I know what books I will be getting soon ;-) In regards to Sylvar struggling to contain her bloodlust it makes me wonder what a fully fledged Sith Lord Cathar would be like. Would you ever use any of the Imperial Knights in your versus series?
Hopefully, the Cathar end up making a return to canon, even if it is just a brief cameo. It would be nice to see such an interesting species portrayed on either the big screen or on TV.
Asajj ventress vs Quinlan Vos ( legend material only Of course) these two are like Anakin vs grievous, a mist opportunity, since she’s the only Of dooku lieutenants we don’t see him fight( it’s implied they did while he was being hunted, but when she caught up with him she focused on kenobi instead of Vos.) it’s a hell of a fight though
This is a very good video and is incredibly in depth. I love how the character sheets are used to supplement the overall showings. My only complaint is the overall 'tier' scale, but that would take too long to explain. Basically, I simply don't think its fair to judge characters in that way as it very often is ripe to misinterpretation and error, but other than that very well done. Also, I think that the overall changes to Sedriss should have been highlighted, specifically you thoughts on why before you credited him with a magic force choke.
Okay, so I just finished this matchup. Very unexpected and it was a lot of fun. Personally, I think you downplayed Sedriss in terms of force abilities and unarmed combat. Sedriss was a mercenary previously, and as a result should have a degree of skill in unarmed combat. How good is he? idk due to lack of material. But then again, Slyvar has more experience and likely superior training in unarmed combat. As for force abilities, getting your ass handed to you by Exar Kun>DE Luke but that doesn't matter that much. What does matter is Sedriss's use of force choke. He uses a specific technique that requires proper training to defend against, as shown with Cam. So there is a chance Sedriss could just choke Sylvar to death and win. I agree this is Sylvar's game in physical combat which is what Sedriss focuses everything on, but his odds are a bit better that what was presented. Don't know about the title card but I love the tier placing you did at the end. Makes it very good of indicating how you personally think they overall are. Also, where is Liam the Padawan vs Emperor Vititate??? Looking forward to whats coming next!

Then he has to use the TCW version. TCW maul developed an obsession with kenobi after his defeat on naboo. TPM maul didn't. He was a calculating fighter who looked to test his skills among the best of the jedi

I disagree with some verdicts you put out there, but this is not one of them. With your measured demeanor and potently concise vocabulary, this is one of the videos which gives me a feeling that I am watching a true Star Wars lore master. Excellent video. Edit: I do think that Sylvar and Sedriss are tier fours, though. Their force abilities, particularly with Sylvar, are not nearly as powerful as low level council masters. Furthermore, their techniques were too basic and are not as potent as a Kit Fisto or a Ki-Adi Mundi; this development could have been achieved with more training by Sedriss, but Sylvar’s own potential is just not quite there.
Jensaarai, I know you only do Star Wars on this channel, but I think you could have some fun analyzing characters from other franchises once in a while. Her interaction with Exar Kun is an excellent display for martial might but is it a good display for force defence. He was able to breach her defences but was that because he was the mighty Exar Kun or was it simply because shes a specialised combat specialist. What other combat do we have of her against another force wielder?
Nothing, we never see her battle any other Dark Jedi of significant power besides her mate who left her and Sylvar kicked his ass. (Know who was wearing the pants in that relationship) But remember Kun had a darkside amulet. Which I believe boosts his power. (Don't quote me on that.)
it boosts his destructive potential it allowed him to make almost blasts using the force. But the point being that once is a fluke, twice is chance and on a third is a pattern. Extrapolating that cause Exar Kun twatted her with the force means that only people of his calibre can twat her is quite the misnomer. I feel like her claws shouldnt be weighed as the ultimate weapon when compared with a man who make a force choke that you have to get help to end. It just feels like her barriers and other defences shouldnt be thought of as the highest possible.
That is a fair assumption, however we only have this one time where she was manhandled with the force. If I were to guess she was competent with her force defenses however nothing special. Kun just did not feel like drawing his saber and killing her at that time. I also discount Sylvar's skill with a blade a bit. She is good yes but a blood rage Sylvar was completely stopped by Ulic without the force and who was not trying to hurt her. Essentially you took a Djem So master and had him fight Soresue for that fight. (And from personal experience I have fought and studied fighting with swords for five years. If I only defend against a student I will lose within 2 or 3 minutes.) I would say she is a tier 4 duelist. If Ulic had been trying to kill her I think he would have been able to.
Ulic fight is a bit of a mess unless you follow the idea that perchance there was the force acting through him. Bear with me on this they severed his connection to the force but as stated previously by our lovely host he believes that it wouldnt work on the light side. If one believes that Ulic had truly repented and had the force flowing through him but not with his knowledge or control. In a similar way to the novelisation version of the kenobi grevious fight. Either that or Ulic was still so skilled with the blade that he was maybe one tier or two tops from when he had his powers. But then that means that Slyvar shouldnt have been much a match for Kun in blade combat when she clearly managed to score a hit (which honestly I think was her just leaping crazy and she got lucky cause who expects crazy cat woman to try and claw your face off when you make a war) against Exar Kun who as stated clearly was Ulic (with his powers) equal. This is the problem put forward. When you look at the story of the jedi exile you see a jedi without the force is more than handicapped they are crippled left lame, blind and dumb. But in the case of Ulic he still keeps everything save the strength of commanding the force. Honestly I feel like Slyvar is a bit too hyped too. Her force powers are lacking her sword skills whilst of a fine calibre are not above her opponent to such a degree where he cannot combat her and her claws are not the world ending event that he keeps suggesting when we know for a fact he could choke her out with a wrist flick. I say that for a force wielder that a sharp object isnt that scary. No knife would spoop dooku or hell even Ventress. I Could conseed that Slyvars aggressive and tenacious attack style that is unorthodox and unfamiliar to sedress (which is in question since as a merc he has to have at least basic hand to hand training. If not advanced skills on the matter) she would score a very painful but not ultimately lethal strike. Which would lead him to lash out with the force its almost every darksiders back up when angry.
Or because it was a sparring match and Kun was an arrogant prick who thought Cathar were inferior to humans he did not take her seriously and instead was toying with her until she cut his face and then he showed her just how weak she was in comparison to himself. Because it seems like while Sylvar was superior to her mate, and could stall Kun for a time when Kun was pissed off he just crushed her under his heel. Infact the only people who were a match in a one on one bout with Kun were his master Voodo Baas, and Ulic. So because it was a sparring session instead of on the battlefield (we never actually see them cross blades in a no holds bar duel.) I would say she was not a match for Kun at all or even a threat to him, he was toying with her because of his arrogance and disdain for Cathar. However let us look at her opponent Ulic, was one of the most bad ass warriors of his time a master duelist and so skilled that he was able to fight not just any Mandalorian but Mandalor himself, while using a Mandlorian battle axe, while balancing on a chain where as Mandalor had a basilic wardroid. This man is in my opinion a Tier 2 duelist. Up with the likes of Obi-wan, and Shaak Ti. (I'd even argue that Ulic with his powers would be able to best Anakin.) And he had been living on Renvar for 10 years at the least between when he 'lost' his connection to the Force. If I were to guess during that time he had to fight all the time to survive. Which would mean he got used to fighting without the force. Something we know the Exile did not do, as it was stated by Kreia that the Exile hid herself from battle for all of the time she hadn't had access to the Force. Were as I believe Ulic had to fight to survive on that frozen world. That allowed him to regain his strength and speed, allowed him to learn to fight without the force. And some things remain universal timing, reach, controlling the central line, foot work. All of those things and if you look at the art of their fight Ulic dominated the central line in such a way that Silvar could do nothing to him.
Looking back on this, I mostly posted this more because this would be the most appropriate video that someone would reference Zootopia. Both combatants are very vicious and went up against people who resorted to different methods for victory against them. Looks like I was wrong........actually no. Vader apparently took lessons from Nick's guide of having a sentence have more than one meaning: "Be careful now, or it won't just be your dreams getting _crushed."_ *Ten Months Later* "Be careful not to _choke_ on your aspersions, Director."
Savage Opress vs Desann - Desann would get the edge in everything except biological strength and environmental temperature resilience Malak vs Jerec - Malak gets the edge in everything except improvisation, fallback options, and unique attacks (Jerec normally isn't Valley-powered!) Also, Lightning, though being harder to learn, is easier to effectively use than Force Destruction. Xanatos vs Komari Vosa - Not sure, Xanatos might win but we need to further look into Komari Vosa, she is talented at blaster deflection and focuses on Soresu

Rob George Are you sure about Exar losing to Krayt? Sure Krayt can take the pressure, but there is no way Exar would be killed easily. After all, Exar did battled his master who mastered all lightsaber forms, so in my opinion, he should be Abel to kill Krayt, Palpatine In lightsaber dual and Revan. And when it comes to the Force, Exar kun's force ability would match Krayt and Valkorion in my view. But I agree though, Exar would kill everyone, in fact, he almost killed Luke, not sidious did when he wanted to.

"On the topic of another comment thread, since we are finally at the niman video, I have been trying to work on a matchup for over a year now between 2 of the greatest niman masters. Darth Krayt vs Exar Kun. While I keep going back and forth, I feel Krayt barely takes it off of force abilities. Slightly greater power in the force, more skilled tk user (shown more subtly and variety such as force throw), can deal with Kun's Sith Sorcery, Tutaminis allows him to deflect or at the least lower the dmg of his force blasts, and has shatterpoint+Dark Transfer. In terms of martial arts though, idk. Their tactics are way to similar to each other so that cancels out. Kun's raw talent makes up the combat experience diff, but Krayt has a logistical advantage. Kun uses his saberstaff by spinning the blade like a quarterstaff in order to counterattack (something I have used when wielding a quarterstaff in sparring matches). Krayt can use the openings created by the spinning due to the fact he has 2 blades. However, not only is Kun skilled in Jar Kai which means chances are he would be on guard for that, I have no idea how Krayt can deal with Kun's Trakata tactics since I believe Krayt has no knowledge about using it or defending against it. I think due to his massive amounts of experience, he could figure it out if he has enough time but chances are Kun could finish him off before that happens. This is further backed up by Kun's superior physique. He is younger, faster, and stronger."
Rob George I agree everything you said. Though I have to question: Can Krayt manage to use Tutaminis to defend Exar's Force Blast? Because when Exar used it, he felt so powerful with it, it's like he can't control it a little bit. And yes, if they would in gage In a lightsaber dual, I'm thinking they would equal. Krayt is powerful with the lightsaber and took it to its highest degree by using the force to aid him in battle, Kun is powerful with the lightsaber in battle and also took it to its highest degree by ignoring the Morderation form and made his own Aggressive form. But I actually think that since Exar has the ability to predict of what the opponent will do, I think he has the edge.
+TheKunLineage94 Can Krayt use Tutaminis on the force blast? I agree its that Krayt cant fully deflect a full power blast. But couldn't he deflect the low power blast and against the fp blast, he could lower the dmg? Personally, I'm still all over the place on that. In the lightsaber duel, it all depends on what stage of the fight. Early game is Kun because his unique weaponry and style is so out of left field that Krayt is going some major difficulty. Late game, Krayt adapts to Kun's saberstaff and overcomes him. Both are masters of Niman and both don't give a shit about moderation. Worth noting that Krayt (and all other force users) have some level of precog. So that's likely to cancel.
Juyo probably didn't even exist yet for another 25 years after all known last entries of Sylvar. Also Sylvar is probably not even alive by then because she would have protected Cathar from Cassus Fett.
Luke is amped when he fights sedriss and had more prep and experience with Ossuses environment and ossus is a lightside nexus so sedriss is massively hampered in their duels
@@Themalpias All of which reflects really well on Sedriss. Despite all of these handicaps, he pushed Luke Skywalker, a dedicated lightsaber duelist, hard enough that Luke resorted to his Force Abilities.
Quinlan Vos vs sedriss. I admit that sedriss has more raw talent, but was has more training and experience. And Quinlan has survived confrontations with duelists Of equal power( fora Bulq, agen kolar) though I stress, survived.

There’s only a couple places on the planet where you can actually touch the original planetary surface of Notron. It’s all concrete and durasteel now. Notron no longer exists, only Coruscant.
This was a bad match up, the second I heard Jensaarai declare Sylvar as super physical winner in a match between dedicated physical specialists, it was obvious who would win.

banethesithari Its confirmed in the Revan novel and by one of the creators of KOTOR 2, that Revan is more powerful then Meetra/The Exile. And Plagueis and Caedus are both definitely higher then Zannah, Krayt, Vader, Bane, Cade and Valkorian
The knight of darkness just because two characters are int he same bracket doesn't mean they are equal. otherwise you'd need 1000s of brackets to get from grand master luke to a typical jedi master. It just means they are a similar level in effectiveness overall. Obi wan would be on a higher tier if his force defences wernt so weak. Vitiate would be higher if his lightsaber skills wern't non existent. Sure i'd put revan over meetra but not enough so that he should be in a higher tier.

Okay, so I just finished this matchup. Very unexpected and it was a lot of fun. Personally, I think you downplayed Sedriss in terms of force abilities and unarmed combat. Sedriss was a mercenary previously, and as a result should have a degree of skill in unarmed combat. How good is he? idk due to lack of material. But then again, Slyvar has more experience and likely superior training in unarmed combat. As for force abilities, getting your ass handed to you by Exar Kun>DE Luke but that doesn't matter that much. What does matter is Sedriss's use of force choke. He uses a specific technique that requires proper training to defend against, as shown with Cam. So there is a chance Sedriss could just choke Sylvar to death and win. I agree this is Sylvar's game in physical combat which is what Sedriss focuses everything on, but his odds are a bit better that what was presented. Don't know about the title card but I love the tier placing you did at the end. Makes it very good of indicating how you personally think they overall are. Also, where is Liam the Padawan vs Emperor Vititate??? Looking forward to whats coming next!

Thank you as always for you and your groups versus videos Jensaarai1. Have you ever considered Darth Maul (non clone wars) vs General Grievious? Both were disposable tools by Sidious. Both skilled Jedi Killers. Both develop and obsession with Kenobi and both meet their end by his blade.
Then he has to use the TCW version. TCW maul developed an obsession with kenobi after his defeat on naboo. TPM maul didn't. He was a calculating fighter who looked to test his skills among the best of the jedi

I disagree with some verdicts you put out there, but this is not one of them. With your measured demeanor and potently concise vocabulary, this is one of the videos which gives me a feeling that I am watching a true Star Wars lore master. Excellent video.
Edit: I do think that Sylvar and Sedriss are tier fours, though. Their force abilities, particularly with Sylvar, are not nearly as powerful as low level council masters. Furthermore, their techniques were too basic and are not as potent as a Kit Fisto or a Ki-Adi Mundi; this development could have been achieved with more training by Sedriss, but Sylvar’s own potential is just not quite there.
Jensaarai, I know you only do Star Wars on this channel, but I think you could have some fun analyzing characters from other franchises once in a while. You might enjoy doing something along the lines of Wesley from Princess Bride against Will from Pirates of the Caribbean. _The Dread Pirate Roberts & The New Davy Jones_ .
Her interaction with Exar Kun is an excellent display for martial might but is it a good display for force defence. He was able to breach her defences but was that because he was the mighty Exar Kun or was it simply because shes a specialised combat specialist. What other combat do we have of her against another force wielder?
Nothing, we never see her battle any other Dark Jedi of significant power besides her mate who left her and Sylvar kicked his ass. (Know who was wearing the pants in that relationship) But remember Kun had a darkside amulet. Which I believe boosts his power. (Don't quote me on that.)
it boosts his destructive potential it allowed him to make almost blasts using the force. But the point being that once is a fluke, twice is chance and on a third is a pattern. Extrapolating that cause Exar Kun twatted her with the force means that only people of his calibre can twat her is quite the misnomer. I feel like her claws shouldnt be weighed as the ultimate weapon when compared with a man who make a force choke that you have to get help to end. It just feels like her barriers and other defences shouldnt be thought of as the highest possible.
That is a fair assumption, however we only have this one time where she was manhandled with the force. If I were to guess she was competent with her force defenses however nothing special. Kun just did not feel like drawing his saber and killing her at that time.
I also discount Sylvar's skill with a blade a bit. She is good yes but a blood rage Sylvar was completely stopped by Ulic without the force and who was not trying to hurt her. Essentially you took a Djem So master and had him fight Soresue for that fight. (And from personal experience I have fought and studied fighting with swords for five years. If I only defend against a student I will lose within 2 or 3 minutes.) I would say she is a tier 4 duelist. If Ulic had been trying to kill her I think he would have been able to.
Ulic fight is a bit of a mess unless you follow the idea that perchance there was the force acting through him. Bear with me on this they severed his connection to the force but as stated previously by our lovely host he believes that it wouldnt work on the light side. If one believes that Ulic had truly repented and had the force flowing through him but not with his knowledge or control. In a similar way to the novelisation version of the kenobi grevious fight. Either that or Ulic was still so skilled with the blade that he was maybe one tier or two tops from when he had his powers. But then that means that Slyvar shouldnt have been much a match for Kun in blade combat when she clearly managed to score a hit (which honestly I think was her just leaping crazy and she got lucky cause who expects crazy cat woman to try and claw your face off when you make a war) against Exar Kun who as stated clearly was Ulic (with his powers) equal. This is the problem put forward. When you look at the story of the jedi exile you see a jedi without the force is more than handicapped they are crippled left lame, blind and dumb. But in the case of Ulic he still keeps everything save the strength of commanding the force. Honestly I feel like Slyvar is a bit too hyped too. Her force powers are lacking her sword skills whilst of a fine calibre are not above her opponent to such a degree where he cannot combat her and her claws are not the world ending event that he keeps suggesting when we know for a fact he could choke her out with a wrist flick. I say that for a force wielder that a sharp object isnt that scary. No knife would spoop dooku or hell even Ventress. I Could conseed that Slyvars aggressive and tenacious attack style that is unorthodox and unfamiliar to sedress (which is in question since as a merc he has to have at least basic hand to hand training. If not advanced skills on the matter) she would score a very painful but not ultimately lethal strike. Which would lead him to lash out with the force its almost every darksiders back up when angry.
Or because it was a sparring match and Kun was an arrogant prick who thought Cathar were inferior to humans he did not take her seriously and instead was toying with her until she cut his face and then he showed her just how weak she was in comparison to himself. Because it seems like while Sylvar was superior to her mate, and could stall Kun for a time when Kun was pissed off he just crushed her under his heel. Infact the only people who were a match in a one on one bout with Kun were his master Voodo Baas, and Ulic. So because it was a sparring session instead of on the battlefield (we never actually see them cross blades in a no holds bar duel.) I would say she was not a match for Kun at all or even a threat to him, he was toying with her because of his arrogance and disdain for Cathar.
However let us look at her opponent Ulic, was one of the most bad ass warriors of his time a master duelist and so skilled that he was able to fight not just any Mandalorian but Mandalor himself, while using a Mandlorian battle axe, while balancing on a chain where as Mandalor had a basilic wardroid. This man is in my opinion a Tier 2 duelist. Up with the likes of Obi-wan, and Shaak Ti. (I'd even argue that Ulic with his powers would be able to best Anakin.) And he had been living on Renvar for 10 years at the least between when he 'lost' his connection to the Force. If I were to guess during that time he had to fight all the time to survive. Which would mean he got used to fighting without the force. Something we know the Exile did not do, as it was stated by Kreia that the Exile hid herself from battle for all of the time she hadn't had access to the Force. Were as I believe Ulic had to fight to survive on that frozen world. That allowed him to regain his strength and speed, allowed him to learn to fight without the force. And some things remain universal timing, reach, controlling the central line, foot work. All of those things and if you look at the art of their fight Ulic dominated the central line in such a way that Silvar could do nothing to him.
Next someone should do a battle between two characters who's species are commonly hunted by predators on their homeworlds.

Rob George Are you sure about Exar losing to Krayt? Sure Krayt can take the pressure, but there is no way Exar would be killed easily. After all, Exar did battled his master who mastered all lightsaber forms, so in my opinion, he should be Abel to kill Krayt, Palpatine In lightsaber dual and Revan. And when it comes to the Force, Exar kun's force ability would match Krayt and Valkorion in my view. But I agree though, Exar would kill everyone, in fact, he almost killed Luke, not sidious did when he wanted to.

Sorry its a lot of text in advance. "On the topic of another comment thread, since we are finally at the niman video, I have been trying to work on a matchup for over a year now between 2 of the greatest niman masters. Darth Krayt vs Exar Kun. While I keep going back and forth, I feel Krayt barely takes it off of force abilities. Slightly greater power in the force, more skilled tk user (shown more subtly and variety such as force throw), can deal with Kun's Sith Sorcery, Tutaminis allows him to deflect or at the least lower the dmg of his force blasts, and has shatterpoint+Dark Transfer. In terms of martial arts though, idk. Their tactics are way to similar to each other so that cancels out. Kun's raw talent makes up the combat experience diff, but Krayt has a logistical advantage. Kun uses his saberstaff by spinning the blade like a quarterstaff in order to counterattack (something I have used when wielding a quarterstaff in sparring matches). Krayt can use the openings created by the spinning due to the fact he has 2 blades. However, not only is Kun skilled in Jar Kai which means chances are he would be on guard for that, I have no idea how Krayt can deal with Kun's Trakata tactics since I believe Krayt has no knowledge about using it or defending against it. I think due to his massive amounts of experience, he could figure it out if he has enough time but chances are Kun could finish him off before that happens. This is further backed up by Kun's superior physique. He is younger, faster, and stronger."
Rob George I agree everything you said. Though I have to question: Can Krayt manage to use Tutaminis to defend Exar's Force Blast? Because when Exar used it, he felt so powerful with it, it's like he can't control it a little bit. And yes, if they would in gage In a lightsaber dual, I'm thinking they would equal. Krayt is powerful with the lightsaber and took it to its highest degree by using the force to aid him in battle, Kun is powerful with the lightsaber in battle and also took it to its highest degree by ignoring the Morderation form and made his own Aggressive form. But I actually think that since Exar has the ability to predict of what the opponent will do, I think he has the edge.
+TheKunLineage94 Can Krayt use Tutaminis on the force blast? I agree its that Krayt cant fully deflect a full power blast. But couldn't he deflect the low power blast and against the fp blast, he could lower the dmg? Personally, I'm still all over the place on that. In the lightsaber duel, it all depends on what stage of the fight. Early game is Kun because his unique weaponry and style is so out of left field that Krayt is going some major difficulty. Late game, Krayt adapts to Kun's saberstaff and overcomes him. Both are masters of Niman and both don't give a shit about moderation. Worth noting that Krayt (and all other force users) have some level of precog. So that's likely to cancel.

Juyo probably didn't even exist yet for another 25 years after all known last entries of Sylvar.

Luke is amped when he fights sedriss and had more prep and experience with Ossuses environment and ossus is a lightside nexus so sedriss is massively hampered in their duels
@@Themalpias All of which reflects really well on Sedriss. Despite all of these handicaps, he pushed Luke Skywalker, a dedicated lightsaber duelist, hard enough that Luke resorted to his Force Abilities.

The knight of darkness just because two characters are int he same bracket doesn't mean they are equal. otherwise you'd need 1000s of brackets to get from grand master luke to a typical jedi master. It just means they are a similar level in effectiveness overall. Obi wan would be on a higher tier if his force defences wernt so weak. Vitiate would be higher if his lightsaber skills wern't non existent.
Sure i'd put revan over meetra but not enough so that he should be in a higher tier.
