Yeah probably a good idea not to take too many chances, like you said it was end of the day and you're tired and it's a huge fish, plus if you get a muscle cramp with no back up emergency CO2 inflatable belt or vest your putting yourself in a bad position. By the time anyone realizes your in trouble you might be 120 ft deep. Jellyfish and muscle cramps can take you out. Scuba equipment is so much better than snorkeling plus you get down and stay down and hunt for something big instead of having to constantly return to the surface.
