But why does nuclear charge matter? In atoms, the number of electrons always = number of protons, so really this attraction should "cancel out", right? In ions, there may be fewer electrons than protons, in which case yes, the positive charge will be greater than the negative charge, giving an overall attraction towards the nucleus. But what about atoms then?
But why down the group atomic radius increases? it should deacrease cuz as we move down the group the atomic size increases there will be more electrons so, more effective nuclear charge... So why does it decrease?
