    I have this cage on my silver X-T5 and I have seriously stared at it for hours, it's so damn pretty. The comparison to luxury car rims is spot on. It feels extravagant.

    Do I need this? Nope. Do I love this? Yep! Am I excited for mine to be delivered next week? YEP! I watched your video and thought about it for a couple hours and then splurged on this beautifully designed cage - along with a matching leather wrist strap from Fujifilm. The other thing I am very excited about is to watch your educational videos about the XT5. I learn more from you than any other photographer so I will be drinking your upcoming videos right up.

      Florian, I am on the X-T5 fence because I love the grip on my X-T3, and my normal lens is the Tamron 18-300. How do you like the SmallRig L bracket.

    • @FlorianCortese
      @FlorianCortese ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@albertphillips447 I am really enjoying it. I had a RRS L. bracket on my XT3. It was grea but expensive and w/o a grip extension. It really didn’t notice the difference the grip extension Made in my hand size until I got the SmallRig. Plus price was so inexpensive as compared to RRS and they as yet have released one for prom RRS

  • @dwrisdon2487
    @dwrisdon2487 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have the black cage and love it. I purchased it mainly for the extended grip. The SmallRig black cage was less than half the price of the Fuji hand extension alone and you get all the functionality of the cage as a bonus. Bill

      @dwrisdon2487 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrNate858 I leave it on constantly because of the versatyility of attaching stuff. It frames the camera body of the X-T5 perfectly. If I want to do video or use my tripod, I add the two grips for stability.

    I'll probably never buy a cage, but wanted to watch your video to see your new studio. I saw on twitter yesterday you had a new video out, but didn't get on youtube at all. This morning I thought I'd check it out. Typically when you post a new video it one of the first videos recommended. Not this time, I scrolled down several times and never saw it either. I ended up going to your channel page and finding it there. You were right, youtube really does not like it when you don't post often.

    Worth mentioning if you plan to buy this- Learn about leather care. The scratching thing is common with modern leather products, but can be solved with leather oils, waxes, saddle soap, etc. With a couple of cheap supplies and very occasional maintenance, the leather will be strong and beautiful for years and will only look better with use. And frankly, the oil is likely unnecessary since your hands will be oiling it every time you pick it up.
    PS- Remove the camera before doing any of that. Give it a day or two to absorb any maintenance product. Then thoroughly clean up the excess before reinstalling it.

    As a subscriber, I love your videos. Please do a detailed video on external recording. Mainly because of the 30 minus restriction, but also because of camera heating at 4K 60 ... Is the Atomos Ninja V really worth it (with all the expenses of batteries, cables, SSDs & rig and SSD reader also), or should one jut get the X H2s instead ???

    • @PhilipDSouza
      @PhilipDSouza ปีที่แล้ว

      But then again do they record 4k 120p ? ....otherwise the XH2s is the better deal.. it will go beyond the 30 minutes recording, also do 4k 120 at least in short videos, and also better auto focus

    Welcome back! CameraTube has missed you. And that cage is beautiful. But it did make me think about professional implications. If you use a cage because you need all those accessories for jobs, I can see some clients (who famously only judge cameras by how big they look) seeing a cage that ornate and thinking the filmmaker isn't as serious as the one who has the typical boring black camera rig. Do you think this could cause awkward moments out in the field or is this overthinking it?

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!!! 🙏 🙏 SO GREAT TO BE BACK!!!! Great question! I think you might run into that, but so much depends on the shoot, etc. I think more from fellow filmmakers and/or cinematographers than clients but interesting and I wonder about that myself.

    If I had a black X-T5, I probably wouldn't buy one. For some reason in Australia, the silver X-T5 is being sold at about $300 more than black. I recently found a retailer selling the silver at a good price (and the same as their price for the black one) so I grabbed it. Now I kind of want this cage :D

    I really like the Smallrig Retro cage and plan to buy it. However, I would ask one question in comparing the standard Smallrig X-T5 cage to the Retro cage. That question is:
    Will the Retro cage accept all the Smallrig accessories that are available which do fit the standard Smallrig cage?
    For example, will the Smallrig cage accept the Smallrig Left Side Wooden Handle (#1891) which (I think) requires one to first install the Smallrig Standard Rosette Bolt-On Mount (#1939) to the cage, and then attach the handle to this rosette.
    The reason I ask this question is that I do not want to buy the Retro cage (and pay the extra dollars) and then find that I am limited as to what accessories I can mount/attach to this cage in the future.

    I probably don't need a cage yet, but this was a very nice presentation.
    I could need a cage if it was some cage/gimble solution, though, since X-T3 does not have IBIS and I do use some lenses that have no OIS... Would you perhaps be interested in showcasing some gimble-ish solutions that would be as small and inconspicuous as possible?
