Love this strengths-based, REALITY based, non-condescending, energy-informed take on setting up targets. Thank you! So glad I stumbled on it months after you posted it!

I'm just starting out on my EMDR journey and your videos are great at taking out the tension of being inexperienced. They really resonate with my approach to all my therapeutic work. Thanks from the UK.

Have been struggling with this topic and really needed to hear this today after a long day of work. Thank you for your message! Helped me reflect on the energy that I’ve been bringing to sessions bc of my own anxiety as a new EMDR therapist

GOOD NOTICING! It's understandable that we would bring that energy, isn't it? You're so awesome to have a long day and then give yourself space to be curious about yourself.

A true pro...solid words from a person with a teaching background. We can only learn when we feel safe-

What you say about learning and anxiety makes total sense Kambria. Sounds like trainees could do with an EMDR session before getting started working to clear the experience of the EMDR learning!

Thank you! I really needed to hear your words. I also have a educational background and i agree that the basic training it's not learn-friendly

I love how you put this in terms of energy work and secure attachment, I agree with this

Thanks for the “there is no wrong target” message and the validation of how challenging it is to work with all the info that our EMDR classes throw at us right from the start.
So it is freeing that there is no wrong target. That being said do you have a preferred order of where you dive in, among the “let’s do it chronologically” or “just pick their presenting concern and do a floatback” or “start with the worst stuff” variations?

Thank you! Ok a question - how do I trust the process though when my answer to the question “what could go wrong” is that I will lose all faith & stop seeking help. What I mean is, as an attendee, if the wrong target memory is chosen and I continue to experience the triggers in my present then it has failed for me, I’ve already spent all that money and I’m not going to spend all that money all over again to find out for a second time, that my therapist has chosen the wrong memory to reprocess. What then?

This could have been better described as how to relax about helping your EMDR clients choose a topic. It wasn’t for people seeking to choose their own EMDR topics, and it didn’t actually help with how to choose a promising topic (and avoid less promising ones.)
